I’m wondering if there is a way to pay for a couple of server transfers for my friends without us exchanging credit card info or account login information. I wanted to send gems to them to purchase the transfer, but I don’t believe that is currently possible. I suppose I could buy gems, convert it to gold, mail them the gold, and let them purchase the necessary gems, but we would be losing out on 30% value due to the gold to gem exchange tax.

Any advice is welcome.

You could go to Best Buy or any select retailer and buy them a 2000 Gem Card. I think it’s about 25 USD. I think ANet created this so gifting gems was a bit easier for people or if people we’re scared to use the scary internet to put their credit card information here.

Thanks, I’ll consider buying the cards then. It’s not that I don’t use my credit card on the net, it’s that I can only use it for my account, and then all gems become account bound. I’m just trying to do this without giving my card info to too many people.

yip the gemcards are the best option imo. Only alternative I can think of is buying gems, selling them for gold, sent the gold ingame to your friend so he/she can buy gems.

I like the ideas that players have suggested: A gem card is a very nice gift. Alternately, you can purchase gems, convert to gold, and transfer to your friend.

Another alternative if you dont have access to the gem cards is you can get a generic gift card with a visa or mastercard label on the front. Keep in mind you will need to register the card on their website before you can make an online purchase, you might want to have them register it themselves with thier own address.

Gem conversion is very costly because of the trading post fees (it will cost you 30% of the gems).

I thought you can only transfer a certain limit to your friend now (for gold farming reasons), what if you want to give your friend 50g? but can only send like.. 5? (if you don’t buy the gem card that is)

Edit: spelling

Edit2: just realised restrictions are lifted after 30 days :P

Bit off-topic but you might want to wait till next week if your friend is going to transfer to a medium populated server.

For the next week, all the medium population servers will be free to transfer to. Might be worth giving one of them a look!

Just a caveat to Gaile’s suggestion, I have a friend who’s father (also a player) bought him $50 worth of gems, then about 100 GP, converted it to gold and mailed it to him as a birthday gift. My friend was then perma-banned for “involvement in gold selling”. It was quickly sorted out, and my friend was back on in a couple of days, but we are not sure what flagged the transaction, since neither of them had ever dealt with 3rd party gold sites or anything.

Hopefully the gift gem card will be implemented to make this more reliable.
