Can't even get to login screen
First, make sure GW2 is not running in task manager.
- Right-click your game shortcut and click ‘Properties’.
- On the ‘Properties’ window select the ‘Compatibility’ tab.
- At the very bottom, ensure that you have the ‘Run As Administrator’ box checked/enabled.
- Try to launch the client again.

That doesn’t work, and the process won’t end in my task manager; if I open it all again, I end up getting this message:
“Unable to open archive file
Guild Wars 2 is unable to access its archive file C:\Users\(my name)\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2\Local.dat.
Please verify that this file is accessible and writable, and that no other program is currently using it."
If I click ok, or try to do anything from there on, nothing shows up, and I have to restart my computer to get the dang process to stop :/.
This seems to be what must be done.
If restarting your computer is the only way to get the game to close out of currently running processes, then please restart your computer to ensure the game is not running and then perform the steps mentioned above.

Same problem. I’m stuck at the very first screen. I have just tried to do what you suggest but it doesn’t work!
Not sure if this’ll fix the issue as I haven’t experienced anything like this. But if it happened to me the first thing I would try doing is using the -repair or maybe even -autologin command line argument on my gw2 shortcut. You can find instructions and details here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments
