Just posting to keep it updated. Crashed 14 times on different vinewrath events. No rewards. Graphics setting already set to lowest.
What helps is turn Sound quality to Fastest, then change character model limit to lowest.
Even if you have a good computer, this helps stop crashing due to heavy graphic fights.
I played WvW today. I was able to play for about 15 minutes and then our group got into a large fight and I crashed with this message.

Crashing problem took a turn for the worse. Before I just couldn’t do world bosses. Now I can’t teleport to new areas or even do basic events by myself without crashing.
How is the progress going on fixing this? It has been over 9 months since this was already known issue with a fix being worked on. Are you still going to fix this or have you given up?
after 9 months no one news?
i play gw2 since launch and i never have this problem, now when im in wvw (medium fight) my client crash..why? this is my error ( 4th of the day)
i use win 8.1 pro
Has anyone noticed this ‘client crashing’ issue more recently? Like more in the last month or so?
I had this issue about a year ago. During big zerg events – Teq, TT, SW, etc – it would always crash, because the memory amount being used hit around 3.5gb (I was watching it in process explorer) and the client would crash. The usual scenario.
The temporary fix of course is to turn ‘Textures’ to low, and ‘Character Model Limit’ to Lowest – these seem to be the main two culprits in this. Just toggling them you can see the memory spike up and down. It would cap out at about 2.5gb, which seemed ok. But then the game looks not so great – but I’m willing to put up with it to be able to actually do content. Every other situation in game is fine.
But then the problem just went away – I’ve been able to run max everything, for some time now. It was still hitting high memory consumption, but wasn’t crashing. Until about 3-4 weeks ago.
Obviously, not every player is crashing the second it hits above 3gb, so what is the issue exactly?
I’ve had 3 crashes these last 24 hours all while at a world boss or in big zerg fights in wvw.
The heat here has been terrible so I am not sure if my pc isn’t cool enough but it does run good with other games.
But I’ll try Mash’s suggestion to see if it will help.
Please Anet check what’s wrong as it’s really really annoying to crash during a boss fight or big zerg fight!

I’ve been testing / playing with this issue the last week. I’ve had process explorer up on my 2nd monitor, and noticed a few things. (If you do have a second monitor, I’d recommend running something that’ll let you keep an eye on memory consumption – it’s super handy. I use PE, but their are others I’m sure).
I’ve done a bunch of Teq, TT’s and VW’s and I haven’t crashed all weekend – Yay! Except one time during a VW when I was testing, slammed the settings to max, the memory consumption as expected spiked to 3gb+ and the client jumped off a cliff -_-
1. Definitely keep ‘Character Model Limit’ to lowest. Heck, I’d keep this to lowest even if I didn’t have this crashing problem (always do) – it’s an fps killer as well, and just holding down the alt or ctrl key (I forget which one) will make all players name pop up on screen if you really need to see them (handy to see zerg when stacking, etc). It’s fine on max in almost every other situation though.
2. Depending on your rig, you should be OK with ‘Textures’ on Medium – although Low is absolutely safest. I did each about half the time, and Medium definitely pushed it up there, but nowhere near as far as on max.
3. Periodically selecting the ‘Best Performance’ option in the drop down box – which is the same as setting everything to the minimum settings I suppose – seemed to, for want of a better term, flush out the memory (very technical ha!). And then you can put all the settings back up – do this manually on each one though. It almost always settled well below what it had been (like it had cleared out some stuff it no longer needed but was hanging on to???) and was surprisingly effective.
Anyway, results will vary of course, but as I said these two settings seem to be the main baddies, so finding your sweet spot with them should alleviate quite a few issues – at least if they are memory related.
Just as a sidenote, is this something ANet can fix? I would have thought that having your game crash when reaching a certain memory consumption would be a major problem? Other games must hit that surely? I play plenty of games that are far more taxing on my hardware than GW2, and they don’t crash all the time. I assume they either don’t hit the memory barrier or if they do, they still don’t crash?? But, I don’t understand all the technical stuff, so, yeah. Just some thoughts anyways. Hope it helps someone out a bit, and they can alleviate some crashing!
Crashed 3 times last night. Fix your mac version of the game please.
Can we get some kind of update on the issue? It only gets worse with every game update.
Another error. This one indicates that the crash was a success!
‘Success!
A serious error has occurred! Parades have begun to make their way to the Queen’s Jubilee!’
I crash about two or three times per session now. Almost got to do the Harathi world boss event before I crashed, too! Was close. I think I hit the dogs at least once before the screen froze and I had to force quit Guild Wars 2.

Eight months since even the last reply here – please don’t give up on the entire Mac gaming community. I’m posting just to add another frustrated voice to the growing slew of others already here.
Same issue as the rest: crashes at the beginning of any WvW fight of around 10v10 or more. I actually have yet to experience a full WvW fight to the end in GW2. Given that was the #1 selling point of GW2 for me, that’s a pretty depressing reality. I want to WvW so bad that I still submit myself to this torture 5 days a week, heading into WvW with the guild at the same time every afternoon and crashing at the start of every fight every day.
We realize that the proportion of Mac players is small but we ARE here and we want to stay here. Don’t push us away.
This still happens a couple of times a day, could we please get an update. Is it something that will be looked at with the expansion or are we going to have to live with it?

What’s most depressing is that they had fixed these crashes back 18 months ago, and brought them back with a feature patch (the one that added the wardrobe).
Right now I’m crashing every night in WvW after about 30 minutes of playing, then every other 30 minutes to 1 hour or so… I get the “Success” error most of the time, which is kinda insulting.
Maybe we should contact support directly, since they merged the forums it looks like there is no more mac support here because you never see them reply on mac issues.

Just to point out a few things on this:
Since the game is a 32bit application it cannot use more than 4GB Virtual Memory (not physical), once it reaches that amount then it crashes. No matter how much physical ram you have this limit still applies.
Since the game is running with a wrapper the crashes are much more frequent than on Windows. Personally I run this game on Linux with Wine and I have the same problem as those on Mac.
I run other heavy games with Wine and they don’t crash, it’s most probably a memory leak within the GW2 engine and it’s much more noticeable with the larger overhead on non Windows machines.
Best advice I can give is to lower all the graphics, restart the client and then do those large group events. Again, on Linux I can do about 4-5 Vinewrath rounds before having to restart.

Latest error gotten while doing living story achievements. Occurred just before the story ended so no achievements earned. Would be awesome if someone from Anet would respond again. These crashes didn’t used to happen before the EOTM patch.

What EotM patch?

Edge of the Mists (had some AMD performance stuff in it, I think it was). This patch totally broke the mac wrapper for a couple of weeks and the ‘fix’ was a token. Performance was never the same after that patch. Before then, I could do wvw and large group events with no issues at all. After? Crash, crash, crash and crash. This has become the new normal as it has carried on for over a year now. As you see, the dev posted that they are aware of it. They just don’t fix it.
I got a new error today that I had never seen before, too (attached).
Crashes on my mac too that also came down to graphics settings and cider errors. This is not exactly a pokey machine either! While support was great I was never told (and it seems nobody told them) this was a known issue. Fortunately I am in IT so was able to diagnose the cider issue, I can not imagine what non-geek players do. Even with graphics settings at the minimum I can still crash now in then when things get REALLY populated. I would put this a higher priority than getting the expansion even as I would LOVE to be able to max out my graphic settings again! Although “complaining” I am down to the 50s when PC users are yelling about the FPS drop in Teq or whatever gets some priceless responses.
Hi all, this is a known issue for us and something we are working on but I don’t have any exciting news for this yet.
Getting any closer to the fix? I tried the beta weekend and everything is large scale group content in the new map that we’ve seen so far. That means that mac users cannot play the new content without constant crashes even while turning down the graphic setting to the lowest and ugliest possible settings.
My husband and I still have the game crash if we dare to do any group stuff every time we play.

I encourage everyone to keep reporting this, they need to see what a huge issue this is. It has put off many people from prepurchasing because why would they want to spend money on a game they cannot play? I had planned on buying one for each of my accounts too but that’s not gonna happen now. It has been well over a year now and this is a recurring redundant issue…..We need to be taken seriously This should be top priority before expansion release or it will be a disaster
This is still very much an issue, I still can’t do group events or wvw without crashing after a few minutes.
Can we please get an update on this?
It’s been 11 months now since you guys were closing in on the fix. Any news? The game still crashes non-stop in any large group content.
client crashes often while big fights, especially in SW at the Mordy part. My fave is when it crushes after the champion fight and then i get no reward in the end – i just don’t see that big shining chest we all love so much (but i still get the lost bandit chests OK)
The other thing is when i hit “O” and instead of Black Lion i get frozen screen and then crash with smth like this :
m_flags.TestBit(FLAG_IS_READY)
A serious error has occurred that prevented the application from continuing. A report has been sent to ArenaNet to help determine the cause.
HEEEEEEEEEEEELp
1 year just waiting for a reply… Mac users still crash all the time. Please do something
There is a serious issue with the Mac wrapper in the live game that has come over to the beta and been compounded. Namely, you cannot do large group content (or any content in graphic heavy or populated areas) for very long without crashing. Yes, you can turn the graphic setting down to basic so everyone is a pink polygon, but that is not an acceptable solution and it still eventually crashes like that; just takes a little longer. And, no, I don’t want to install Bootcamp.
All of the new stuff we’ve been shown in the HoT beta is graphic heavy, large group content in densely populated spaces. This results in Mac users not being able to play for very long before the game crashes. This is just unplayable like this.
The issue itself has been a ‘known issue’ for over a year. Here is a dev saying they are working on it from almost a year ago: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Client-crashes-during-heavy-graphic-fights/first#post4447940
Will there be any fixes for the Mac wrapper? Love the game, but the current state it is in will make the expansion a nightmare for Mac players. Right now, we can just avoid large group content (world bosses, wvw, etc.) even if we’d prefer to do them, but the new stuff looks like this sort of content will be unavoidable and so unplayable.
Will there be a fix or is HoT not for Mac users?
A sampling of crash messages:
-Exception: c0000005
-Model leaks detected
-success: a serious error has occurred
So I just updated form os 10.9.2 to 10.9.5 thinking that it would give me a performance boost. It just made the game twice worse.
Now even Stronghold is unplayable.
What a kittenty cider port.

Hello, I bought new iMac 5k with higher specs in order to be able to run GW2 and enjoy best graphics but unfortunately the game is crashing every 10 mins or like and even faster when playing WvW or trying to do a World Boss.
I had to set the game to the lowest graphics possible in order to play with no crashs (there are still some crashes when in heavy fight in eotm for example) it is really no good, it looks bad and my game experience is ruined. I can’t even see other characters outfits and armor, honestly this is really bad.
I have been playing GW2 and GW1 since day one, I love the game and expect a lot with HoT but please, do something for that Mac client!
I am waiting for a solution on this matter guys, do not let us down, I see this topic was open like a year ago…
Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately I don’t think this is a mac only issue. I’ve created a thread with the same issues, and I’ve seen numerous others like it in the past for PC computers. If I can play Witcher 3 on high settings and other MMOs on ultra settings just fine, I’m guessing this is a problem with the game engine/game code. Most people say you have to turn some of your settings down to play a full Teq or a full WvW map in a zerg fight without crashing. Hopeful they will try and do something about it. I presume the problem can easily be recreated as quite a few people seem to get this issue.
On a side note, if you get a cannot read memory address error run a memory test on your ram to make sure it is not faulty. Sometimes this can be the problem.

I am getting this error or a similar one about once every 45 minutes of gameplay. (TCMALLOC, bytes=42278532) I have tried deleting the GW2 file in the Go>Library>app support>GW2 folder. I have tried repairing the client. I have combed the forums and found players experiencing the same issues for over a year. I have been playing this game since the days of FACTIONS and I have just spend a lot of money on the newest expansion. This is a known issue and it has kept me from playing in groups for a while. Even in normal PvE I top out at 35 fps if I’m lucky. (normally around 20 fps)
I have a BRAND NEW macbook pro:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
2.5 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
With a DEDICATED graphics card as well:
Chipset Model: AMD Radeon R9 M370X
Type: GPU
Bus: PCIe
PCIe Lane Width: x8
VRAM (Total): 2048 MB
I don’t know if this problem is a result of the cider wrapper that this game is playing through, or if there is a issue with the PC users as well. Either way I spent ALOT of money on this game and my computer for this not to work.
I don’t mean to be rude, but I have loved this game for the longest time and I just want to get back to playing. Let me know if there is any troubleshooting I can do on my end. I will happily try anything.
Thank you for listening.
Any word on this? It is still a huge issue and it has been over a year since the last time the dev team has communicated on it. You can probably guess how customers feel with lack of feedback or action.
We crash all of the time with large group content unless we turn the graphic settings down to bare minimum (which looks terrible).
In the new areas during the BWE’s, the client crash pretty much every 10 minutes. I’m afraid that HoT will be pretty much unplayable for me.
Can we please, please get some feedback on this?
9 months since my last comment , i left the game for 7 months and now im back ,but with windows machine guess what its working fine ! all the best for you guys but take my word get a PC ! they wont fix a thing
im so frustrated right now.. just did last boss on dragons stand and during the 1hr 30 min event i crashed 5 times, and ofc i crashed one last time before opening the vendor to buy my piece >.< and then i cant rejoin the map
Hey Gavin, it’s been a year since your last update so you better have something “exciting” for Mac users.
2015 iMac
• 4.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz
• 32GB 1867MHz DDR3 SDRAM – four 8GB
• 1TB Flash Storage
• AMD Radeon R9 M395X with 4GB video memory
Game doesn’t run worth a kitten for longer than 10 minutes.
Fix your broken Mac client. Now.
I love GW2 but I am still having the issue even with the latest macbook pro. No offense but it has been so long and seems like you are ignoring the issue without even giving us any updates(not looking forward to fix it any time soon but at least some proofs that your are actually working on it) so I have decided to uninstall the game if not fixed by the end of year 2016 since it is very difficult to enjoy it with the crash. Seriously, I do not even know why I bought/downloaded the mac client of this game and why it is even buyable/downloadable if it going to crash every time I try to enjoy the game. It seems I just wasted my money.

I do not think Anet ever fix this issue on windows. The 32 bit client crashes on windows too since I last check a year ago
Everyone just moved the 64 bit client which prolongs this bug.
The only way they can get this working on the mac is to make a native 64 bit client since apple abi breaks all possibility of 64 bit cider.
This is still happening… ANet, this is a 2 year problem still to be fixed… When I want to play I have to go to my Bootcamp partition.
And please fix the FPS problem on the Mac client, it’s a shame that on windows I can run almost everything on the highest settings and on the Mac client almost everything on the lowest…

The only option for a short term fix on macOS would be to use wine 2.0 and run the 64-bit client yourself. The memory issues that most people talk about here are equally bad using the 32-bit Windows client.
In the medium to long term anet are working actively on a new macOS client that should resolve the issues entirely, by being 64-bit.

The 64 bit client running on WINE does not solve the problem, in case anybody wanted to try.

Interesting: so, unlike Windows, the 64-bit client + wine still experiences out of memory failures due to heap exhaustion / fragmentation? Any theory as to why?

Can’t speak for Mac, but I play on Linux (which is similar) using Wine 2.0 Staging, the 64bit GW2 client works very well in such a setup, Sometimes I tend to play for about 4-5hrs without any crashes or problems.
As for the out of memory thing, the game leaks memory regardless of OS, only difference is that the leak is much slower on Windows. With the 64bit client on Linux, the game will use all the ram it finds since there’s a much much higher ceiling than 32bit. Typically for me it’s about 6GB ram usage after 4 hours (without restarting the game), personally doesn’t affect me since all I have to do is relog.
Also, as a word of warning: For me with Wine 2.1 up to 2.5 causes a performance loss of 15-20 fps in every given area in GW2. So far I’m stuck with 2.0 which I really can’t complain about. On the other hand 2.6 was released just a few hours ago, I still have to test it.
