Computer Crashes when running game
Sorry to hear. Please give us more system specs: like CPU and if you are connecting over Wifi. Please update all your drivers especially nvidia geforce.
Give this program a try: http://www.iobit.com/gameboosterupdate.html
It is safe to use, check the DRIVERS section inside that and see if you should update something.
In game limit your frames to 30fps and see if it changes anything.
good luck.

I’m sorry I did forget to mention that I did limit my frames to 30 fps allready and installed the latest nvidia beta driver, from the 27th of august I believe. My processor is an AMD Athlon IIx4 640 Processor 3.00GHz. I have 4 gigs of Ram, and I’m running windows 7 Home premium 64-bit. I am connected via WiFi, though I tried running the game while hardwired, and still had the same problem.
Hey DigitallOve– could you please post any crash reports and a DxDiag using the spoiler tag? You can find the crash report located in your “Documents” folder. There should be a Guild Wars 2 folder within it and it will be called ArenaNet.log.
I only see 2 items in my guild wars 2 folder. One is a folder titled Music, and the other is titled local.dat
Does not sound good. I would go for a heating issue. Clean up the inside of your computer.
Please take a look here:

those guys have some good solutions and driver hints (in the end)

Yeah that’s the driver I’m running and I just cleaned the inside of my computer when I reformatted a couple days ago. I do think it’s a heating problem as well but I just don’t see anything I can do on my end to fix it. It is only when I run GuildWars2 and no other games, but I do believe it’s because of the amount of CPU the game takes up when running. I’m not really ready to purchase another computer just to run the game, and I am really bummed that I can’t play it, as I really do like the game.
I hope Matt can help you. You could try an older driver though – as in the thread mentioned. Did you try gamebooster?

I just installed it and I’m going to try it out. I’m kind of doubting it but i guess I’ll never know until I try, thank you for the suggestion Yshaar
DigitallOve – Since you think this may be heat related, I would like for you to try monitoring your CPU and GPU temperature while playing the game. There are multiple programs available to do this, and one example is “SpeedFan.”
If you wish to use SpeedFan (not supported by NCsoft in any manner) please download it at the following URL:
http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php On this page, click the blue link that says “SpeedFan 4.43” and install it.
Regardless of which program you use to monitor the temperatures, please try playing the game in windowed mode and monitor the CPU temperature while playing the game. Please take a screenshot of the program’s readings, and at what temperature does the game crash?
I thought that but only because such crashes are heat related most of the time.
Strange that she does not see the folder and a crash report.

Don’t mean to jump in your conversation here.. but I have the exact opposite problem.
My PC will run GW forever and never crash. If I am just browsing the internet or anything.. my PC will shut off. It only shuts off if the mouse cursor is moving, i’ve noticed. Leave it alone and it will run all day. Play GW for hours, never shuts off. It’s completely mind-boggling!
Hello! I am also going through the same exact problem with my computer. Mine’s is a 64-bit with windows 7, Nvidia Geoforce GT 425, and when I play the game, the computer just suddenly shuts off without warning. It never happens with any other program or game except for this one. So far I’m going to attempt to do everything that’s been said in this post and see if I can get some answers as well.
Checked the folder in my documents, no error reports either. I’ve attached my dx diag just in case if it’s any extra help to compare the two. I’ll continue to check out this post for any new info. I really don’t want to stop playing!

Ok, sorry I didn’t respond right away. I installed gamebooster at Yshaar’s recommendation and tried playing for a bit, I have had speedfan installed for a while now. I ran gamebooster AND speedfan and played the game for about 90 minutes without it crashing. This is the longest I have gone without a crash. I am not totally sure if the problem is fixed with the assistance of gamebooster, but like I said this is the longest I’ve been able to play without a crash. I didn’t notice any abnormal temps this time around either. I’m going to probably try playing for a while again tonight to see if the game crashes again and will monitor temps and repost whether it crashes or not. I really appreciate the help from everyone by the way, it was nice getting to play for a good hour without problem :]
So good to hear! Hope it works out in the future.

I too was having issues with Nvidia X 580 and full screen Guild Wars 2 killing the computer (no not shutdown from heat, it is like ripping the power cord out). I have tried both the beta and the stable drivers. My solution I am using now with no issues is stable drivers and windowed instance of the game. I can play for countless hours with this method. But once I go full screen, it is 10 minutes – 2 hours. I am running Windows 7/64 bit.
I also started experiencing crashes (i.e. computer resets) while playing GW2 on my 670. Checked the following things:
- PSU – not a problem, bios is setup to shutdown on power failure, but the box resets
- GPU temperature – around 60C
- CPU temperature – max logged – 50C
The crashes started when I’ve entered Iron Marches, so I guess its something funky with the 306.02 drivers that I am using and something in the area.
Is this the same issue as stated in this thread?

Your solution is probably here…
Your solution is probably here…
This is partly incorrect. If you actually read all the posts in this thread, you will notice that all of the solutions in the link you provided have been attempted to no avail. Even then, they are still doing work arounds that should not be required to play a single game.
All the solutions in the provided link are using old driver versions, or plugging directly into a modem.
Even in the end the poster states:
Extra note to all those reading is always try everything that goes through your mind, before actually blaming the machine you are playing on, because the problem is in the client itself and not your PC’s…
Essentially he is saying, “I had to do this to get it to work, when I should not have.”
Your solution is probably here…
My solution is not there. Note that I am not experiencing a CTD, but as other users – direct box reboot/reset.
