I have Verizon FIOS and live in New York. I just returned to GW2 this week after an 8 month break.

The lag in world events is at times unbearable, with unresponsiveness sometimes lasting 10+ seconds and occurring regularly. Of course at other times, it is perfectly fine. Doesn’t matter if during prime time or not – I even get lag to the point of disconnecting at 5 AM.

I have tried using port 80 and port 443 but these don’t seem to fix anything.

I have not noticed any lag in dungeons etc, just in world events.

edit: As others have said – I have zero lag in other games that require a steady connection. I also seem to do fine in GW2’s smaller group content (dungeons, etc).

Verizon FiOS, DC/Baltimore Metro. Also am having similar packet drop/lag issues. Was unplayable really this evening.

I’ve also posted on Verizon’s forum, but no response…wish they’d get this fixed already.

It’s weird that the lag is random. Does not seem to affect Comcast folks in my same region.

Its not just Verizon, Im AT&T (US EST) and having the same thing. A friend of mine who lives in the Netherlands is having issues as well though it appears not nearly as bad. Im currently playing on Far Shiverpeaks server (EU server) and a lot of times I play at waaaay off-peak times for them, still have major issues, maps not loading, freezing in game for minutes at a time.

I have been experiencing game breaking lag on a brand new computer (same internet I’ve played games on problem free for years) and it is only on GW2. I can play Rift, WoW, and ESO, all with NO lag whatsoever! I did a tracert and guess what? your North American servers are somewhere in Sweden!!! SWEDEN? WTF ANET? if this unplayable crap keeps up I will seriously never buy another Anet product again. Please fix your servers this is beyond ridiculous.

edit: I should probably note that although I’m east coast like most in this thread, I have Optimum as my isp.

I have the same issues as well which I have never had before. It stopped me from playing since the game will pause every 4 mins or so.

There’s a good program pointed out in the other latency thread (for EU players) by GM Awesomeness. Worth using and saving the sample. This could be handy for the open tickets as it adds more information for support.

Same issues, it’s making it unbearable and frustrating to attempt to do anything but in low level areas with little to no events.

Verizon FIOS in Northern Virginia, started about the same time as other posters. Latest patch did nothing. I’m experiencing about 2% packet loss on average.

I hate to say but its getting worse at least for me. Before when the game was good, it was good – no lag, ability delay anything. When it was bad, then it was really bad with lag, DCs, etc. Now there is no ‘good’. There is ALWAYS lag, DC, cant login. At this rate the game will be completely unplayable soon. No way Im buying HoT until this gets fixed (if I dont quit completely and go back to another MMO before then).

Ncsoft, I cancelled wildstar sub because of the dallas area lag issues. East coast gets terrible connection to Texas please mirror another mmo and put data centers in other states. Chicago would be good for east coast players.

I second this motion. My internet is fine. I can stream YouTube videos at 4K. It’s GW. Why buy a game that’s unplayable? Get your kitten together PLEASE.

Wait a second, why am I getting routed to Europe? What the heck kind of bat nuts crazy routing is this?

Editing to add, I tried another of the games IP’s and was routed to Australia and back. Where’s the more direct 900 mile or so connection with limited hops? Not liking the 20+ hops this is taking.

I’ve been having this issue since the removal of the wintersday events in a patch recently. At a certain time on NA I will end up rubberbanding a lot, very delayed ability activation, attunement/weapon swapping and salvaging all take 3 seconds between click and act.

Usually this is nearly instant depending on my internet usage. I was just under the impression that Gw2 just hated me because other games work just fine at this time and had just given up on the late night gaming dream, but I got a cousin to log into his EU Gw2 account during the laggy time of day and it worked fine, just as well as NA would before this patch. I just want to play the game on my account before I go to bed.

I live in New Zealand.

Time Warner Cable customer here, game was almost unplayable last night, I had money to burn so I decided to buy some Rex instead of Gems. Thanks so much for looking into this issue and posting updates in this thread, it really shows how much you want us east coasters to spend money in your gemstore.

Wow NA servers are in Texas, if I were you I would check my system for some sort of Internet highjacking virus or malware that may be rerouting you threw a proxy using an ip out of Sweden to some eastern erupean country.

Similar problem. Since last night (not been on for a while) I seem to be able to play for about 5 to ten minutes then it lags ( I can move but everything else stops dead) and then cuts me off the internet entirely. Black screen with an error message saying the client is unable to connect.

I figured it was probably some sort of ISP issue, but everything’s absolutely fine when not playing GW2. I put GW2 back on, 5-10 minutes, bang, I’m cut off again. I don’t quite understand how it can completely cut my connection to the internet. On an EU server so I don’t think it’s just a US thing.

Well I just got back home after upgrading my internet, picking up a new modem/router combo; guess what GW2 is still FUBARd. Just typing this while I’m alt tabbed from Rift while looking up a build.

I don’t have malware. I’m running a brand new PC and that was the first thing I checked. Also someone above me said the exact same thing so its not just me routing through Europe.

hey Feirlista Xv.1425, the part where its being routed through Sweden is the telia.net part in hops 8-11 and I don’t know about you but I see Ncsoft attached to telia.net in hop #11. I don’t think malware caused that. I think that’s GW2 megaserver lag. but I could be wrong.

At the moment I am having a ping of 450ms to 700ms to all 64.25… IPs (the IP range used by all NCSoft games: Aion, Wildstar, GW2, etc.) I am in South America.

I reported this to my ISP, but I am not sure who is the culprit.

Well as many others here I have Verizon and for 6 days I had lag non stop, regardless of game mode or settings. Today 2/21/2014 during 1am to 5am (could not sleep) EST, Verizon had been working on their lines, which left many in DC with no internet or very slow internet. However, after 5am everything in gw2 has been running smoother and the lag which remains is very minimal. While whatever Verizon fix was one of the issues, it would seem nsofts servers are causing what minimal lag I have left, or at least that’s where I get packet lost during path ping. There for it would be great if we could get someone’s help but from the EU topic, it seems we wont get any word until some time during or after Monday.

For me, I haven’t lagged or DC’s tonight. Did another ping test and no packet occurring within the telia network. I’m still highly aggravated at the trace route going overseas and back. Makes little sense to me but, at least it’s functioning atm.

the part where its being routed through Sweden is the telia.net part in hops 8-11 and I don’t know about you but I see Ncsoft attached to telia.net in hop #11.

Hop 8 isn’t in Sweden, it’s in Ashburn, Virginia. I’m unable to trace any further, going in to New York, so I’m guessing that specific network is currently down.

Hop 11 (ncsoft-ic-307708-dls-b21.c.telia.net) is the link between Telia and NCSoft’s network in Texas.

The storm on the east coast is likely the problem. It’ll probably take about a week to resume normal operations. There’s nothing ArenaNet can do about that. All you can really do is wait it out or attempt to use a VPN to reroute your connection around the problem, if a stable route exists somewhere.

Why is this bashing as you say it’s a fact not trying to not be helpful but this is most likely the main cause of lag for some playing from countries that don’t have there oun servers and have to go into NA or EU to get into the game.

All I know is I am ready for something to get done about this. I started a guild trek today and got DCed right after start. Its darn near unplayable…

So since Anet is doing nothing about this, or at least not posting any kind of update, try this, updating this thread, lets try to figure this out ourselves. What do we all have in common? East coast is about it? I know a lot of you have Verizon but I and a few others have AT&T and it is just as bad. Im assuming we arent all playing on the same server, I know I am playing on a EU server, Far Shiverpeaks. From what I can tell it is all different times of the day, no particular map (as in populated, non populated). Some are blaming the storms in Eastern US but these problems started before the storms did. If it is ‘gaming over international lines’ then why is it seemingly mostly East Coast?

I know I am pretty much only playing now because a friend gave me some gold to transfer servers so I could play with him and I dont feel right about taking his gold then leaving but I am srsly considering going back to a game that doesnt DC me every 20 minutes (which is basically any other game out there).

The reason Anet doesn’t respond to every lag or DC thread is because there is nothing they can do. The Internet is not a perfect word righ now you may be able to play one game just fine and the other you gat lag well not all game servers are located in the same place in the world so when one rout is fine may be the other is having issues. Go right now and look at any online game support forum and tell use what the number one complaint is. Guess what folks it’s lag all I’m saying, whether you beleave it or not, lag is effecting all online gaming not just GuildWars so until the powers that be do something to correct the problem we will have lag not every will lag but some will and coming on to the forums ranting about how bad Anet is and I can play game so and so because there is no lag well go pay that game then come back to this one and see if it cleared up.

Yes yes I get all that about lag. Im betting at least 50% of that is BS. Watch any gaming video and when someone dies, “Oh look at the lag, thats why I died”. This is real lag. Many of us simply almost cannot play the game because of anywhere from 5-30 second ability delay, DCs, etc.

Yes I can go play those other games, do I want to? Not really. I have played them out. The reason I stopped playing before was my old computer didnt seem to like some effect that GW2 had and I would blackscreen every 5-10 seconds. That was my machine, I accepted that I couldnt play and left for another game. Now I have a new machine that has no performance issues with GW2 and I want to play -this game-. Its fun, I have a good friend playing it and a new guild that seem pretty cool from what little I have been able to play with them.

If every player in the game had the kind of issues we have experienced, GW2 would not be online, there might be select few players that put up with it but that is all so I refuse to believe that it is some playerbase-wide problem, it is local to specific players and I am trying to find out a commonality that we can pinpoint.

So again, can some of us who are having the problem please get together on here and figure out a solution? I will admit to not being nearly as tech savvy as others on here but would help in any way I can.

People there are saying they could sign in and play fine on one account (friends, relatives) but not play their account on the same exact computer. Its an account issue…dont think anything we are doing will help.

Same – I have Verizon FIOS here in the Dallas area. Excellent connection, can do everything else fine, stream netflix and amazon constantly, etc. My husband normally can stream video while I play the game on high graphics with just medium FPS stuttering in zergs or world bosses, but since this started, nothing seems to help (days when he’s not streaming on the TV, etc). Plus, the game is a fresh complete download right before this issue started.
