Been trying to start the game for about an hour now, and this occurs on startup. It lasts for a few seconds, then drops to “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…”

Any ideas?

For the last 2 days, excluding the first New Build after the patch, after every New Build I am continually getting this error. The Launcher will start to load then slowly drop down to 0kb/sec and eventually time out to this error. I wouldn’t think anything of it except that is HAS been after every New Build when I try to restart the game to get the new build. If I completely stop even trying, after a number of hours when I come back, it seems to be fine.
I have reset my router, attempted the -repair which also led into this error, and nothing seems to help except just waiting for hours then trying again.
What could be causing this error, this frequently, and only to be resolved with time?

Same issue here. I was fine yesterday afternoon, but tonight I keep getting the same errors. I’ve tried several times, with no success. Apparently the game is currently unavailable to some of us.

Just bought the game and cant even finish my download due to this error… not as optimistic/pumped as I was two hours ago.

Problems getting on game been playing over a year now and never had this happen before, is something wrong with game? My net connection is fine only this game isn’t working!

You are not the only one having this issue. I have been seeing this error pop up now and I would wish they would fix it. It happens before the login screen and there are no issues with the internet connection. It would pop this error around 2-5 times at most and then it would come to the login screen and login like normal.

Last night I was getting the same error, but never had success logging in. Tried at least 10 times. This morning I’m in first try.

tried the fix but it keeps saying the name ’ “C:/program files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe”-assetsrv’ is not valid.

i keep getting this error telling me there are conection errors, and it just came out of nowhere and i have no idea how to fix it, has anyone else had this problem

I can not connect, and have not managed it for days now.
I am trying to log in from Finland.
Gives no error id … just the phrase Connection errors detected. Retrying…

Same problem. Woke up this morning, can’t connect to the GW2 launcher. Everything else is working fine. I was playing GW2 last night with no problems. I haven’t installed anything and changed no settings. Checked firewall to make sure that GW2 still has access, which it does. Dunno what else to do

Hello, I play the game every day. Today, there has occurred a problem when I try to log on to my game. It says ‘’Connection error, retrying to connect’‘. Yesterday it worked perfectly, but now it won’t work. Any help?

Fixed that by following the link provided by Miss Lana above.
I had to put in the shortcut:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 174.35.71.9:80

Ie. another server to download from. Try it!

i have the game downloaded i have been playing for a week by now but suddenly today i am getting this error what should i do ? i didn’t understand how to add that ip to the shortcut target !

I think the login severs are down, on Mac that usually means you get no login window, just the GW2 icon in the dock, which is the case for me right now. Let support know please (by filing a ticket through the link Lana posted above), so they can fix it.

Same for me, and i have no idea how to add that IP to my shortcut. No post from Anet about this bug so im guessing they still dont know about it.

No problem logging in in western US. Problem does not seem to be at ANet end.

The GW2 game client will not connect to the login servers as of today. The client on PC says “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” and on Mac the GW2 icon just stays in the dock without showing any login window.

Yes, I’ve tried repairing the client, and no that does nothing – since it can’t connect to the GW2 servers. And yes, I have sent in a support ticket about it two hours ago, no reply.

In Europe, Sweden.
MBP 13" Retina 2014 OSX 10.9.5.
Generic PC with a generic screen running generic Windows.

Temporary solution to the problem seeing most of the GW2 asset servers are down is to manually force your client to use one of the few asset servers that are up. Thanks to UnknownFreak for suggesting using another asset server in the other support forum.

On Mac:
Open a terminal window, copy and paste this line and press return:

/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -assetsrv 151.249.89.19:80

On PC:
- Right click on your Guild Wars 2 shortcut and select ‘Properties’.
- In the ‘Target Area’ field you will see the location of your Guild Wars 2 executable file:
…\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe
- Add the command line argument for the working asset server after the quote marks, beginning with a space:
“…\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 151.249.89.19:80
- Save and close, and now you should be able to login when you run the game.

NOTE that this is just a temporary solution, they need to get their asset servers up and running again.

Iv’e got the same problem, my brother aswell, seems like the servers in Sweden are down :/ this was my last day home and now Im going away without internet… Hope they fix it untill then.

I have the same problem and I’m in Canada. What’s going on Anet? There’s not even a post from you guys about trying to fix the problem for us. Is there a major problem with servers?

It is possible that the problem is at the physical location of the servers.
Maybe they burnt out? Who knows. One thing for sure is that if it really is a physical problem at the server’s locations then it is probably out of Anet’s reach.

Can confirm having the same problem of connection in east side Canada (which I never had until today)
Will try the force solution, hopefully anet gives us a word on this soon…

Same Issue figured I would try a fresh install and now can’t install the game. I’ve done Firewall workarounds and Pinging the server with no luck.

It works fine…for a single account…doesn’t work for multiwars2 i guess i’ll play 1 account at a time

yea, i’ve been having the same issue since yesterday morning,i thought they were doing a patch or preparing for the wvw test on the 9th,but today is the same thing, it won’t connect no matter what.i am in europe, sweden but i don’t think that has anything to do with it. and yes i have been trying diff asset servers but it doesn’t work.
