Right click on the GW2 shortcut and select “Properties”. You’ll see the Target box there. Then it’s just a matter of copy-pasting “C:\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 93.188.135.37:80 into that box. Click okay and you should be set to go.

Create a new icon on your desktop and change the properties to:
“C:\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 93.188.135.37:80
Or where ever your exe file is.

I also ran mine as administrator and got it to work. Only went up to 300kb/s though, but good enough for the patch to go through.

I don’t know what programmer from Anet decided to make the TCP timeout a minute long, but if you want to force it to restart you can use Microsoft’s TCPView (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897437.aspx) to do it.
Just find the GW2.exe connection that’s using port 80, right click it, and close the connection. It will force the client to open a new one and download more data for 2 seconds before it drops more packets on the floor. I used that with the asset server swap and it finished the download after about 30 seconds of killing the connections.
This is 2015, packets don’t take over 60 seconds to get to their destination.

It’s happening again to me too after a good period without having issues. One thing I’ve noticed though is that it’s only happened when i was kicked out of the game for a new build. Last time there was a new build, I exited client completely and didn’t have issues, but this time I was in a living story instance and was kicked out for the new build only to experience the patch issues i had before. Not sure why manual vs automatic exiting of the client would make a difference, but it seems to have made one for me…

Worked like a charm, thanks so much! Been waiting since this evening trying to get the new build to patch. As a note though, you may want to remove the assetsrv part after you download the patch, running the actual game with it turned my language to German?

Anet, I am also in Chicago and am having the same problems. It got fixed yesterday, but tonight’s patch has caused the problem again. It is now 2 hours of getting “connection error(s) detected retyring” FYI, it has not retied! I tried several other games and none of them are having any trouble at all with my connection, so it must be on your end.

Try the reddit link, guys- I just fixed this issue (after struggling with it for 3 hours).
My download speed dropped a couple times, and it took a little longer than usual, but I was able to get the patch installed and was able to run around the Grove

The reddit solves this problem. You need to hard change the executable to connect to a different server. If after reading the reddit you feel intimidated about how to fix this, just put this in your target.

“C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 93.188.135.37:80

[Note: this is not the default directory for GW2.]
