Guild Wars 2

So my uncle bought me this game as a gift (and also so he would have someone to play with) about two weeks ago.

I downloaded it from the website, got the character creation screen and boom… crash.

I reinstalled drivers for my video card thinking that would help, this time I got into the game and the second I talked to the first quest guy, boom.. crash.

I ran the repair. No luck. Reinstalled video drivers a second time. Nothing.

Ran a diagnostics test, nothing came up. Tested my RAM, nothing as well.

Reinstalled the game a day and two sore fists later and got to play for 30 minutes and boom, crash again.

Livid at this point. Reinstalled the game a third time and had a little luck. This was maybe 8 days ago. I managed to play a long sitting with my uncle and roommate for about 6 hours with no problems and then today I ran into more problems. First it was a freeze (my second). Then it was a crash (corrupt data blahblahblah) when I tried to make a new character (trying to level my elementalist purely with my uncle). Restarted my computer and managed to get into the game but then there was no sound. Restarted my computer yet again and then the game crashed on startup, like… in the little box that shows up before you enter the game.

Livid, I uninstalled ankitten ow currently re-installing for the 4th? time fully expecting next to no progress. I’m running out of patience and time to put into this game that I thoroughly enjoy playing.

Suggestions?

I’m giving this until maybe until the 5th re-install until I demand, with less than respectful words, money back for my uncle.

Ok, update. I get this everytime I even try to INSTALL the game now.

Seriously….. this is getting beyond ridiculous. To the point of unacceptable..

How do you expect us to help you when you didn’t even provide us with any specifics about your computer?

GW2 doesn’t crash for me at all – ever - no matter how long I play.

Well, if you look at the support forums, there’s a lot of crashing going on lately. If it’s related, then you may have started at the wrong time.

And it begins again. I can’t even log into the game now. This is completely unacceptable, this is worse than World of Warcraft ever was. Yea, I went there….

I have now re-installed the game 5+ times, run tests on my cards and RAM, re-installed drivers, yelled at it, sacrificed a goat, and everything else short of reformatting my computer.

Anyone have a number for Arenanet?

Or any useful solutions?

My roommate (who’s computer I bought) has also gone over countless possibilities and if we get it fixed, I maybe get an hour in before it basically implodes on itself and I’m sick of it. I don’t have the exact specs on my computer because I, uh, just don’t, but I know that the five times I have been able to play the game for more than 15 minutes it runs it beautifully, with no problems, until it crashes because it’s corrupt, or failure to connect, or incompetent game company.

The error MainCli.cpp(589) is there since release.

Things that wont work:
- Repair
- Reinstall
- Update drivers
- Format C, clean install Windows & GW2
- Running Memtest86+
- Replace memorybanks

Is your computer overclocked at all?

The person you bought this from can tell you, I’m sure.

Also, check RAM timings and voltage settings in BIOS. It’s entirely possible for RAM to run right on the edge of stability – which doesn’t show up under normal usage or even Memtest scans.

Remember, component specifications will change with temperature. So, if your RAM is borderline, increasing the temperature (by running a game) will push it enough to cause stability problems.

This really looks like a RAM issue to me because of the corrupted archive data.

Another thing you could try would be to UNDERclock the RAM, as a test. If that works, then you know where the problem lies.
