Crashes in-game, no discernible pattern
Hey fellow gw2 players! I’ve been having a problem recently with crashes and I have no clue what to do about it. I’ve tried many different solutions that are withing my kitten nal (I’m not exactly a computer wiz so I’m betting you guys have better solutions!!). The crashes seem completely random so I’m not entirely sure what’s going on. Sometimes It will crash after an hour of game play, sometimes it won’t crash at all when I play for 3+ hours, and other times I get frustrated because I can’t even stay logged on and I give up lol. I’ll be posting my specs, again hoping that you guys can help me out, when offering solutions please keep in mind that I’m not a computer expert! :P If you need any more information than the attached file I will link and my computer specs though feel free to ask! Also YES I have run the repair AND I just did a fresh install last night, this morning I played for ~4 hours with no crashing so I thought I got to the root of the problem but tonight it crashed after ~1 hour.
Specs:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz
Manufacturer: Intel
Speed: 3.5 GHz
Number of Cores: 4
Video Card: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
Manufacturer: ATI
Chipset: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
Dedicated Memory: 4.1 GB
Total Memory: 4.0 GB
Memory : 16 GB
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit
Service Pack 1
Size: 64 Bit
Edition: Home Premium
I have an 100 gb SSD which has my operating system and other basic needs for a computer to run in it as well as GW2 and I believe LoL (No other games). Then a regular 500 gb hard drive where I play anything else.
edit also I have tried what my friend suggested in rolling back my video drivers which did not work so they are now back up to date.

So yesterday I played probably about 8 hours throughout the day and didn’t have a single crash. Tonight I’m having a bunch… No clue why this is happening.

Wasnt sure if i could attach both the NCSOFT Game Advisor file with the crash log so here is crash log

Haven’t had any problems since the last time I’ve posted here (decided I’m just going to post every time I crash until I figure out what’s going on). So it has been 3 days and I’ve played ever day, tonight though it has crashed.

Please post the crash text found in the error report submission window. It’s hidden behind a button for more details by default.

My game has been crashing every 5 to 10 minutes since I started playing today. I’ve been playing GW2 daily for the past 2 months and haven’t had any problems. I hadn’t updated any drivers or anything recently that would cause this problem. Since the crashing started I’ve updated my graphics driver to see if that would help, but it hasn’t.
Anyone else having problems with the game recently? Currently it’s unplayable. I’ve attached one of the crash logs and my system specs below .
Win 7
Core i5 2500k
GTX 960 (Driver version 353.30)

Does exactly same thing for me. Started doing this dc loop today, approx. Can’t even play the game, i log in, and start the game, everything is ok. After 1min it disconnects me with this “attachment” code.
same here.. after install win 8.1 i cant play anymore!!!! client crash in wvw scenario..
win 8.1 pro, i5 3570k 7870msi.. i play since release and i never had this problem..

Alright looks like my topic was merged with others or something, I would like to point out specifically that it is NOT DISCONNECTIONS that is the issue being mentioned. It is Game Client crashes only.
Same crash happens to me since the 8th part of Living Stoy S2 came in, already sent several ticket to support but they just told it’s caused by my PC which is a bit interesting cause my friend has the exact same crashes too and he has way better pc.
My Pc was checked with 2 local professional and said my pc is in really good shape no ram problem or anything, even did win reinstall, game reinstall, clean driver reinstall … nothing helped
As I read on forums this happens for tons of configurations, varying from low end to extremely high end machines. This happens also for both radeon and geforce based machines.
This also happens at various points in the game and the crash reports indicate different types of issues from audio through multi processor machines ending in graphic issues.
So I hope Anet is goin to take a stand and look for a fix already cause most of the time the game is unplayable
I had this happen when replaying a living world episode, I got a 1006:9:7:392:101 and my network was fine and didn’t crash or anything but the game did. many of my friends are experiencing the same issue for the past couple days.
Hmm seems they combined my thread with yours because we’re getting similar (the same?) errors… I don’t agree with that decision seeing that we’re on two different machines but hopefully it helps them in fixing it for all of us. Good luck to everyone! ):

Yeah I know for a fact you and I have the same problem (because I looked at your crash report and the error number is the same thing). But no disconnects for me either, and the crashes seem COMPLETELY random… Some nights I don’t have any problems, others I can play like an hour or more then it starts giving me the error.

having this exact issue…. where do I find crash logs?
gtx 860m, i7-4710hq, 8 gb ram, windows 8.1

Looking at your posts again: the crashes you are encountering currently are Out of Memory issues. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but generally it’s because memory have become fragmented enough that the game cannot find a segment large enough for the requested space.
Generally large fights can cause a lot of fragmentation as there is lots of information that is going in and out of existence quickly. If you know you are about to head into a large fight, such as a World Boss, you may want to consider restarting the client to refresh the memory footprint. Some players have found relief from this by lowering their graphics settings to lighten the load on their machines.
Everyone else’s crashes in this thread look like Access Violation errors, which are likely unrelated to Bloozeclooze’s crashes.
The sources for these are likely numerous, but we are looking at them. Thanks for the reports. Keep sending them to us.
Thanks!
On the mac it adds up to another series of crashes, it makes the game barely playable.
Even when I quit the game it sometimes forces a system reboot.
There is a memory leak in the client. The client keeps using up memory to the 32 bit limit and hangs or crashes in large scale WVW.
So does this mean that my issue is kind of unavoidable if i have been playing for extended periods of time and should exercise hindsight by resetting my client?
so i wait for another crash and grab it?

So assuming you’re addressing my problem as well (another reason I don’t agree with combining topics……………) this doesn’t seem right at all… I mean yes, the problem does happen sometimes while in areas with large amount of people (world bosses etc) after being online for a while, but it has also happened randomly while being online no longer than 5 minutes while waiting in a pvp queue (and while there are people in heart of the mists, most of them are just standing there so I highly doubt they are putting any kind of strain on my computer). The crash with the 3 files I have submitted each show the game time of each session, I believe the 3rd submission shows a game up-time of one minute…
3 crashes in 1 hour of WvW tonight. This is just terrible… It used to crash, but less.
I don’t have crashes with GW2 reports often but I did get a couple a few days back. More recently I’ve gotten blue screens and graphic card crashes, only happening when I play GW2 and has gotten so bad today I can’t wvw at all for more then 10 minutes even not near fights.

just the other day I got a blue screen of death error, first one I got in over a year, that was whack. but I presumed it was because I was using the steam overlay while the game was loading and I was doing too much stuff at once or someth.
Had another crash while playing today after about 1 hour. Was inside a story mission with not much going on…. Wasn’t in a zerg, wasn’t in wvw or anything. Going to keep posting until we get some real answers…

I am having the EXACT same issue. My sound gets all wonky and then it drops and i see crash report from GW
As title says, in game I would get crashes at seemingly random times. Game can sit fine and run smoothly with over 70-100+ players around me but will crash unprovoked, giving me the “submit error report to Arenanet” window.
Intel i5 2500k
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670
8GB Ram
64-bit windows 7Not a massive, makes game unplayable 100% issue but it does have an impact on gameplay by crashing me out 2 seconds before a boss dies or in the middle of Vinewrath Meta event.
Been having a lot of issues with lag lately. At least the past week as far as I can remember. It happens anywhere. Standing still or fighting. LA, Tequatl, Triple Trouble, Fractals etc. The game becomes clunky with 1-10 FPS and 500 ping. Speedtest shows internet is fine during this time. If I turn my camera things get worse and this can last from anywhere from 10 seconds to 90seconds off and on with occasional freezing…then everything speeds up into hyper-speed & whatever happened during that timeframe plays by at the speed of light. Other times I will get skill lag with skills going off 5 seconds later.
I normally don’t experience ongoing latency (or any performance issues) problems like this at all so I’m a bit puzzled as it is hampering my gameplay. The game does not crash even when it does the above until I’ve had enough of it and decide to end the client by disconnecting, then the client will simply freeze until I end the task through taskmanager…and task manager shows the gw2client as stopped responding so I typically don’t see a crash report to be able to send.

I’m noticing a certain pattern in these logs:
Memory at address xxxxxxxx could not be read
Memory at address xxxxxxxx could not be written
I would suggest running Memtest86 and leave it testing overnight: http://www.memtest86.com/
When I built my pc last January GW2 gave me a lot of problems, especially similar reports and odd behaviour, memtest discovered some errors in some 9 hours test, replacing the ram fixed the issue.
It was worth mentioning that I haven’t had any major problems with the rest of the system, but GW2 seemed to be VERY sensitive to it.
I’m not saying your ram is definitely faulty but it should be checked.
Hi anet!
What about my crashlog? I get it all the time too.

The totes helps. Dumping the graphics settings to lowest periodically seems to do the trick. I have this same issue. If memory use gets up around the 3gb mark, watch out. If it spikes to 3.5gb, it’s go bye bye – game will crash.
Personally, I have process explorer running on a second monitor and keep an eye on it, and flicking the settings to low and then back up seems to ‘clear it out’ so to speak – it fluctuates between 2.5-3gb. That’s seems the sweet spot. Textures and number of people view distance (i forget the exact name in the drop down) are the culprits.
I have encountered this issue on other MMO’s although they don’t usually crash. As a complete techno boob I find it odd to set a game up this way – if it uses up too much memory the whole game crashes. They clearly know it will do this. How can it be fixed? I don’t know – as I mentioned, I’m a techo boob.
How do other games get around this? It’s probably false logic I know, but lots of other games thrash our systems six ways from Sunday and don’t crash, so why is gw2 set up like this? Or perhaps another question is why do some people never seem to encounter this? What’s their trick – I’d love to know.

We’re trying to clear up a lot of these issues, but it takes time and many iterations to find the sweet spots for these kinds of optimizations. Fragmentation is inevitable while running any application that does allocations after initial start up. However, the degree and severity of this depends entirely on the circumstances and specifics of the application.
In general games often use custom-built memory managers and will have built-in limits for each type of resource. When the memory manager starts to run out of space, it may choose to crash, or to move data around to make more room, or automatically remove some older item that hasn’t been updated/used for some period of time. There are lots of schemes surrounding how this can be done and there are trade-offs to each of these choices.
In our case lowering one’s graphics settings reduces the space requirements for many different parts of the game, which makes it easier to find space for new models that come into view.
It would be nice if the client were 64bit capable so that it could address the needed space, and let the OS have it address more space. Obviously not always a trivial change, as many assumptions about type sizes have probably been made…
Very nice, by merit of this problem I just lost another dungeon.
I hope that you will solve it soon, because recently gw2 is unplayable. I got about 60 and more crashes.

I am also having random crashes with send report to arenanet. Like the op, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Not totally debilitating to game play, but aggravating to have to restart and not be on the map I was previously in sw. :/

My crashes started to be more fruequent in the last few days sometimes can play 1-2 hour but mostly have crash every 15-20 min so I collected some type of it. My Pc works fine memory checked and the whole pc was checked by 2 professionals and nothing is wrong in it, everything is pretty clean and no other game crashes. So here are my crashes hope you can figure out something soon.

I’ve been having the same problem with random crashes, but for some reason last night, after the last crash, I decided to just quit playing. I was frustrated and went to bed. I woke up this morning to play for a little while, and my whole game instillation was gone, except for one read me file. I scanned for viruses and malware, nothing found. I tried a restore point, but GW2 wasn’t included in the list of what would be recovered. So I guess I’ll spend the whole evening reinstalling. It’s ok, I didn’t want to play today anyways.
Ive been getting crashes as well for the last few days.
Mostly while doing events or JUST after … once in a personal story mission too.
heres the crash report

The curious part to me is that before the HoT update, I was able to run Guild Wars 2 with high settings at a smooth and consistent 60fps in all but the biggest karma trains/WvW battles. Now (same computer) it’s crashing regularly, even in solo instances (I can’t progress story). This happens in vanilla maps as well.
I’ve made no hardware change, and there appears to be no effect/graphical change that should impact gameplay so much. I could imagine the game stuttering or slowing down or something, but not completely crashing. Further to that, yesterday’s patch dropped my functionality in a single massive hit – settings that two days ago ran smoothly suddenly were running at 25-40 fps. I had to drop every setting to low and medium to sustain 56-60 fps. But the crashes still occur…

Today’s bug fix included increasing the memory for the 32-bit client.
While the problem didn’t vanish, it vastly improved. I’m back to the same performance I enjoyed when the Silverwastes were released. In two hours of gameplay, I only crashed once, and trust me that’s an amazing thing when you’ve been crashing every 10 minutes for the last few weeks.
Try the game again now and see if you also get some improvements. Whatever they did, it helped for me.
Im having the memory address cant be written crash every 10-30mins did you find a fix?
