GW2 Crashing my internet.
A few of us have been experiencing the same exact problem and nobody from Anet has responded to the threads.
Have you tried contacting support yet? I did the other night and so far all I have received was a canned response requesting that I send files that I sent with the ticket to begin with. I was hoping it would speed things up and cut down on the canned responses. *facepalm*
Maybe they will see that it’s a real problem if more of us contact support!
Technical Support
Hi Nedween – Are you getting any error messages at all when this happens? Also, is the game client completely crashing on you or are you just getting disconnected? And by your entire connection, do you mean that you are unable to browse websites after you are disconnected from Guild Wars 2?
Need more technical details to provide a technical solution, hence the canned responses. (Though I agree asking for information already provided is half-assing it and wastes everyone’s time—I’m looking at you, Bethesda). Reporting observed specifics goes a long way to getting resolution rather than vague statements (“crashing” means software halted execution because of an error—i.e. BSOD; the interwebs don’t “crash”).
In addition to Segovia’s questions, the following will help:
How is your computer connected to the Internet? Wired/wireless, cable/DSL, router make/model, Ethernet or USB adaptor, etc.
What version of Windows and what does the network icon show?
Crucial m4 128GB SSD (64GB SRT cache) | WD 2TB 2002FAEX | Antec Twelve Hundred
When I was your age, I could outrun a centaur…until I took an arrow to the knee
I’ve had this issue also, thought it was my ISP but now I’m having doubts since there isn’t any interruption outside of GW2
Win 7 (64 bit), using cable internet (D-link wired/wireless router, wireless with WPA encryption, random-generated password, Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter). All my software is up to date. Using Symantec suite for all the firewall control (only allows ‘trusted’ applications through, GW2 included).
Service will essentially ‘flicker’ and resume within minutes. Is there some port conflict or some kind of traffic that would trigger a throttle like this?
I think this is related to the error code 7

Try to ping your router while playing.
/ping -t (router address)
A lot of people say “crash” whenever anything goes wrong. It can be a little annoying and misleading, but it seems like the same problem a few of us have been posting about recently. ( Thread #1 and Thread #2 )
The only error messages are the usual “lost connection” and “unable to reach log-in server”… because the connection died. (Not the connection to Anet’s servers. My internet totally dies for a few minutes. No browsing the internet or anything!) Windows doesn’t give any crash or error messages. The game doesn’t even crash. It just sits there waiting patiently for the connection to return.
— My router (Netgear N300) is wireless, but I never go wireless with this PC.
— Connecting directly to the modem (Motorola SB5101) doesn’t help.
— Reinstalling the game doesn’thelp.
— I’m (still) running Vista with all the service packs and updates.
— All of my drivers, including network, are up to date.
— My firewall isn’t blocking anything game related.
— My anti-virus (Microsoft Security Essentials) doesn’t appear to be angry.
— My PC is clean. No viruses, trojans, spyware, malware, etc.
— No odd processes running.
— Closing non-essential programs (Skype, Steam, Chrome, etc.) while playing doesn’t help.
— Playing other games and using services like Skype and Netflix without GW2 open doesn’t cause disconnects.
— Moving my cellphones to another room doesn’t help. (This was grasping at straws! )
— My ISP (Suddenlink) was contacted a few weeks ago when the problem started and they couldn’t find anything wrong.
The only recent hardware change was the graphics card. I went from an 8800 GTS to a GTX 560 Ti a day before the headstart began. The problem actually started while participating in the stress tests a week before the game went live! I have my doubts about the beta drivers causing some sort of conflict since a friend with an ATI card has also been experiencing this problem for a couple of weeks. The only thing we have in common is the router model. Our ISP, OS, hardware, etc is different.
I put most of this in my ticket and I suspect they haven’t given me a real response since it’s a pretty odd problem and there are quite a few high priority tickets in the system that need to be taken care of. I totally understand!
If someone from Anet wants to look into it, the reference number is: 120911-000518 (The GameAdvisor and ArenaNet.log files were included.)

Its how this game passes data thru the internet not you… Many ppl are having the same prob
Strawberry – Your issue sounds like a similar one I myself used to have with my connection on my XP instalation. I would often have speed losses for no apparent reason, and have my connection “flooded” and dying in the same manner as you describe.
In my case it was a hosed windows instalation combined with a “dirty” line connection and an older modem. Basically my ISP said there was nothing wrong for years, and when I put in a fresh windows install of Vista I got the speed back, but the “flooding” still happened sometimes. Then when I took a new package out they found a fault and had to fit a signal booster and give me a new modem/router.
Long story short; Its not the game itself “flooding” the connection, its that the connection isnt able to keep up the data flow rate it should under normal circumstances and then crapping out and re-cycling the connection.
My advice is firstly to check the connection with another computer capable of at least connecting to the game and waiting around a bit. If that system also has connection issues, its an ISP error that needs looking in to. Almost certainly a line quality problem that most basic tests by an ISP would miss.
However if that PC is fine, then its your windows install thats busted. In that case I would strongly advise a fresh windows installation.
