Even today the same problem, I fly out of the game if too many people are close to me. I can not make a group event, let the event for over 2 weeks. Success and thus a reward can I forget. I fly sometimes every 2 minutes of the game and when I log in, I end up in the overflow.
So I will not recommend this game to my friends who are already able to play WoW on your Mac running at least.
I am crashing every few minutes now – latest one is a “dstBits” crash. No way to join the invasion events. I even just now crashed going back to LA.
I cannot play anything now, the whole day has been frustration.
iMac 27-in, late 2012

Edit – Just got a “lockedRect.pBits” crash.

I am not sure since when exactly I have this issue because I am playing on windows too. But the last three days I wasn’t able to play with my mac:
After clicking “play” a black screen is all I get. The strange thing is: There days ago the Client was loading a huge! patch. After 10% (800mb) I decided to go to bed. No Idea how long it takes, but the next day I was able to start the game, however its still a black screen. I reinstalled it today, no changes.
Prozessor 3,1 GHz Intel Core i7
Speicher 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Grafikkarte NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB
Software OS X 10.8.
Beno, could you try these steps, it seems you’re having a different issue than the others above.
Also, it seems you have a MacBook Pro, so if you are having these crashes as described by the op, please post back.
Luis, are there any updates on this or any mac issues at all? I think everyone is chomping at the bit for some info lol.

Sorry for not reading it beforehand. Point 4 (deleting Application-Support Files) worked for me.
Thanks!
By the way: I have the actual iMac 21"
Glad that helped you! Sorry for my mistake!

I had not been crashing with the early August update, but have been getting full crashes since Saturday 8/24. lockedRect.pBits this last time while in one of the living story zone events.
I hadn’t noted it during the week after the last patch.
Probably not related but I did fire up Diablo 3 and it patched before running, but I think that should have only been the launcher.
Will try the checklist and see what happens.

Edit: Removing the application support files seemed to work, no crash during the invasion.
The command line gave an error even with replacing the long dash with two short dashes, couldn’t find the command.

I have finally worked through all of the individual settings at each level with nothing providing a crash even at the highest settings. I have now turned on FSAA and am working through the settings again. I am about 1/2 through the settings on this second run through with no crashes. The gist is anybody should be able to pick at least one setting and raise it as high as you might like without crashing.
Sorry this is so slow, but if anybody else wants to help testing I certainly would not turn down the assistance. the thing is that testing has to be methodical and crashes reproducible in order to help point the developers in the right direction.
I hate this issue as much as any out there, but this is a point where we as a community can rise above moaning about the problem and be a part of resolving it. If you think ANET is too slow in fixing it, then help isolate the issue so we can hand them a clearly identifiable point where we use x combination and it crashes, but we remove Y and the problem no longer happens.

I am working through
Group 1:
Anti-Aliasing – Smooth edges of objects at a slight cost in performance
Drop-down options None, or FXAA.
Render Sampling – renders samples at either the current resolution or smaller (improved performance but quality trade off)
Drop-down options Subsample, Native or Supersample.
IS anybody willing to take:
Group 2:
Textures – Controls texture resolution. Higher values give more detail on terrain and objects, but require more video memory and bandwidth.
Drop-down options include Low, Medium, and High.
Environment – Controls the complexity of terrain, props, decals, and ground cover. Higher values show more detail but require more GPU bandwidth. Some features may not update until the map changes.
Drop-down options include Low, Medium, and High.
Group 3:
Shadows – Draw simple character shadows in addition to static map shadows.
Drop-down options include None, Low, Medium, High, and Ultra.
Shaders – Controls the quality of various shader effects, such as wind and lighting. Adjust to lower cheaper materials and fewer textures, which can improve performance for low-end GPUs.
Drop-down options include Low, Medium, and High.
Group 4:
Reflections
Drop-down options include None, Terrain and Sky, and All.
Post-Processing – Controls visual quality such as bloom, depth blurring, portal distortion, character lines, light rays, and selective scene tinting.
Drop-down options include None, Low, and High.
Group 5:
Animations – Controls model animations and simulations, such as cloth and water.
Drop-down options include Low, Medium, and High.
Full Screen Gamma
Number with linked Slider, range: 0.5 to 3.5
Vertical Sync – Forces the frame rate to synchronize with the monitor refresh rate. Helps eliminate tearing artifacts, but can result in artificially low frame rates.
Check-box, on or off.
High Res Character Textures – Enables high resolution textures for NPCs and other player character models. Requires a map change for the setting to take effect.
Check-box, on or off.
Enable Stereoscopic Rendering – Rendering for 3D capable monitors. Requires full screen mode.
Check-box, on or off.

Procedure:
start with the graphic preset “Best performance”
Then Turn up your first setting to maximum (i.e. group 4 would use reflections) and then pick a second setting to also run on Maximum/highest possible setting. Try running a few events with zergs ~15 minutes minimum. If no crash turn off that second setting and repeat with a new one. If you can successfully get through all without crashes turn your second setting (i.e. group 4 would be Reflections + Post-processing) and then do the same thing, working through a setting at a time adding in a third setting on maximum.
If at any time you get a crash, run a -repair and also repair disk permissions to remove those as potential factors then using your newest setting reduce it down by 1 increment and try again.
Post your results here. Hopefully if we can get a group of folks trying different settings it wont take as long. I know there is some overlap in my method, but not sure how else to ask for help without more direct communications. Thanks.

Just came here to post that I too just started experiencing this crashing problem. It started happening very frequently when I went to Divinity’s Reach. Didn’t seem like many other players around me. I’m getting the lockedRect.pBits message.
System specs:
OS X 10.8.4
2010 Mac Pro
3.33ghz 6-core Xeon
32gb RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 680 2048MB
FWIW, I also have a self-created Fusion Drive array using a 240gb SSD + 1 TB HDD, which is where both OS X and GW2 is installed.

What … for almost a month, I may be in no place for a poor support, where many players are. Group events are not possible. I did not even manage a territory at the event to complete, because I always fly out of the game. Maybe more money should be put into the support and do not come around every 2 weeks the update. 2 points I made in the last 2 weeks of Scarlet. Why did I pay for a game that you can not play?
What about the return of the? I get my money back?
Edit: Info: I do not even get out of my charcter Lions Arch, because I just get error message out there and fly! When I try to travel to a waypoint … well, I’m flying!

I can only play on “best performance” without risking the game to crash and it sucks. I have tried the recommended solutions and it has only gotten worse for some reason. Earlier I only crashed when moving around, now I can crash whenever.

Still crash all the time in large battles (when there is a lot of people in a tight space).
Those crashes have been happening for me since the culling removal patch for WvW.
I’ve been getting the same sort of issues as everyone else for the last few months. Just adding my name to the list. I’ve done everything in the troubleshooting multiple times (every few weeks or so, just to check!)
Usually getting dstbits, c0000005 & lockedRect.pbits errors most of the time

continue … to see any improvement. I still fly out of the game if too many players are in my area.
How does it actually made ??with a money back guarantee? I have for what you pay here, which can not be used properly (tomorrow it would be one months!)?
Of course, I could not complete, so the rewards are escaped me the last 2 Updats.

Oh wow, I’ve had to move to a higher tier server with my guild and now the gme crashes even more often. At almost every keep battle I end up crashing before being able to get my loot.
Please fix this.
Also getting this issue. It’s worst in Lion’s Arch where it crashed before I could do a thing. Here are my specs:

I wrote on here about these errors when the game first arrived and they are still happening, this is truly disgraceful.
This was one of the reasons I gave up playing.
imo they will never fix this the only solution is to install win 7 64 on a bootcamp partition.
Good luck.
Lwio, this is a fairly new issue for iMac users that occurred with the pve culling update, so this may not be the same issue you had.

The game is now unplayable for me since I moved to a higher tier.
It crashes every 15 minutes in WvW. In every large battle. I know it does this only since the WvW culling removal patch.
It would be very nice to have an acknowledgement and a possible future fix.
Im getting a Exception: c0000094
A serious error has occurred that prevented the application from continuing. A report has been sent to ArenaNet to help determine the cause.
Yeah, they auto closed my ticket after i redid everything they told me to do (and outlined here) several times. So good to know they’re working on it…yeah…

I was crashing a lot till I set rendering or whatnot to sub sample. Now all players have gray/white armor, mine and npcs look fine but I do not crash
I wonder if this would work for others.
Subsample works for the most part. I still crash in extremely large groups, like on tequatl and wvw with subsample.
But yeah like people have already said, it got way worse after culling update, but even before that update I would still crash in WvW. Rather annoyed right now cause I’ve crashed about 8 times trying to transfer all of these ascended mats from dungeons to different characters, which is the only reason I’m posting, because it’s literally that terrible.
I heard somewhere that mac beta client is like running gw2 on 32bit system, even if you’re using a 64bit system? Maybe that has something to do with it. But yeah, nothing new, pretty much the same thing everyone else has already said. Crash anywhere where there’s more than 20 people :P

Hey guys, my game isn’t crashing since I have disabled water reflections.
4 days no crash: Finished Teq (it usually always crashed after a few minutes)
Had intense 40 vs 40 WvW battles and it didn’t crash (it usually crashed like 5 times per night in WvW)
Bottom line: the code for water reflections is buggy.

Well, although this thread is a month old, I’ll still add myself to the list.
iMac 27"
3.4GHz i7
16GB
10.7.5 (got a MBP retina using 10.8, well I won’t be updating my imac to 10.8, it’s even more locked down than 10.7. in fact the system gets more locked down with each new update…10.4 was the limit, after that it was downhill)
Anyway, I’ve always gotten the lockedRect.pbits bug a few times a week so I wasn’t even bothering trying to fix it anymore (although always crashing right before the loot does get old…), but since a day ago (19.Oct.2013) My fps have totally dropped to about 10, unplayable. I had already gotten that problem after an update one time before, and I did everything I did back then, and more: deleting GW2 files, resetting SMC, PRAM, etc… This time it’s not helping at all, and I can’t get it to work at more than 10fps anymore.
I would normally get about 30fps with most of my graphic options on low, which is kinda lame considering it’s a maxed out 27"… I’ll give Anet 2 or 3 days to fix it on their end, like what happened last time, but if I can’t fix it this time, I’ll just quit. I’ve wasted more time on GW2 than I’d like to admit.
I understand this is a old thread. But even after the last update post Blood and Madness, I’m getting INSANE amount of crashes. At this point the only thing I THINK i can do without running into some dsbits run error is MAYBE crafting. WvW is OUT of the realm of possibility right now. With more than 10 players on the screen my game won’t run. System specs are in signature. i’ve tried all the troubleshooting tactics that are stickied on the forums save for disk permissions already. Going to try that today. I don’t see why i should have to do the SMC reset but i’ll try that as the last resort.

Screw what i just said about Disk permissions and the SMC. I’m going to try THIS today. I think i remember noticing a difference with that yesterday. kittening worth a shot if i can possibly turn the other settings ON in the graphics…. yes, ON. I’ve turned most of the graphics settings off in an attempt to WvW.
27-inch, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB, OS X 10.8.2
just an update in case anybody else is still having the problem. I turned reflections completely off like it said in this thread, i was able to turn other settings up higher with no more problems. So in case anybody is still having problems with the random crashes. Try turning off reflections all together. I’ve been able to to play for roughly 4 hours with no problems now, in WvW
27-inch, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB, OS X 10.8.2
Turning off reflections brings me no joy, but I have seen some better client behaviour by turning the Character Model Limit down to ‘Low’ or ‘Lowest’. Sure, it’s not a great view but if it means I can run around the LA bank without crashing — I’m happy!
Installed OSX Mavericks today and had no crashes since, played all the evening in WvW on max settings and everything was cool

I’d do 2 things:
1-First try deleting the Library folder and see if that helps
2-Lower your graphics settings to Atari level and see if that prevents your crashes
If #1 works – Yay
If #2 works – Turns your graphics up gradually (and by gradually, I mean try 1 new thing per day).
