I am only getting this crazy lag on the new map, everywhere else in the game is fine, but as soon as I go into the new Lake Doric my ping hits 2k+ then continues to randomly spike between 40ms ( which is my average ) to 2,000ms

As soon as I leave the new map my ping returns to normal and I can play.

Same happening again started 20 minutes ago. Problem with the same IP address of 89.149.164.42. I have done everything support have asked, turned router on and off, plugged in directly to the modem, opened ports.

But its not a problem my end or a problem I have encountered in the many years I have been with my ISP or played GW2. I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall. Feeling frustrated

i have been getting huge lag spikes since the balance patch, at the moment the game is unplayable for me, it takes like 3-5 sec just to set a skill off, and its happening on all maps, i’m getting a ping from about 1500-2000ms, i have no other issues on my network, the internet connection is fast, so it has to be your end

Well apparently this problem that we are all getting is a problem our end… as per the below quote. I give up, guess its time to find a different game to play and spend money on

“Because the loss of data is happening prior to it reaching our game servers, you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance. I would highly recommend sending them these results so they can visually see the issue you are suffering from.”

Having same issues here. All started once the patch Head of the Snake was released.
Funnily enough it only happens to my EU account and not the NA one.

Firstly I would recommend you guys to do proper testing and post the data here, use a tool like Pingplotter or WinMTR (second one being free). Get the ip from multiple map instances with /ip in game and put it there and let it run for a while.

Also if possible you guys should make a F2P account and test it on both EU and NA like I did, I found out the problem seems to be consistently with a node cdnetworks-gw.ip4.gtt.net at least on my case which also happens to be the first node from Anet side on EU where ncsoft-ic-307707-dls-b21.c.telia.net is the first on NA.

I already am in contact with support but considering this issue is affecting multiple people here and also other friends from NA which do play in EU, I decided to post here and link this thread too to the support ticket I sent. All I can do now is hope anyone will answer else I will have to wait for another patch like this to fix or break things more.

Below are two tests, first on NA and second on EU. As it can be seen the latency spikes on cdnetworks-gw.ip4.gtt.net and after that everything goes wrong.

Also my 200 base ping is expected due to where I’m playing from, sadly can’t do much about that one but it’s still playable when you compare to 1.6k ping or even more (only on EU).

To add this is preventing me playing the game and causing the rest of my raid group to not play guild wars either. There’s nothing I can do about this problem when it’s at node 7/11 and quite frankly someone from ANet should be contacting whoever owns these servers causing the problems as it’s costing you business.

Can we get an official answer from a dev on this thread, please? It’s frustrating how a “Crash server” thread get a fast answer in less than a day, and here we are still waiting a reply to all of us.

I just had to leave my raid squad because I was getting more than 2k ping from nowhere, it’s impossible to play like that.

This lag ping spikes are not our fault, ONLY YOU ANet, can do something about it. If you wanna lose hundreds of EU players in your grame because you don’t even try to help us, up to u.

Huge lags spikes that are quite long and make the game totally unplayable.
Sometimes I have the luck to be able to play 1 or 2 hours without any when I first start the game, but once they start, they don’t stop happening.

Have had the same issues from NA, but noticed Level 3 (backbone provider) is having major issues. They had peering outages last week that they are still recovering from. Apparently dual-routed a bunch of traffic by mistake from US to Asia.

Backbone status sites, such as the one at keynote, show sporadic and ongoing Level 3 packet loss and latency to peers (which keep rotating as if under load from an attack or cascaded failures).. This would cause certain areas to have problems while others are fine, and then rotate. Why it’s happening isn’t apparent. Maybe L3 is under attack, or they just can’t get their junk together. Not saying Anet doesn’t have a problem since last patch, but it could very well be the backbone provider.

I have the same issues as described above (EU), 2000-4000 lag, skill lag. Yesterday during TT-Wurm I was about 1 minute behind the rest of the group, they decapped Cobalt while on my screen it still had 30% health.

Contacted support last week with a couple WinMRT traces – from different servers – which clearly show the problem is at their side of the connection, but after the default replies (disable anti-virus, hook-up computer directly to modem) they stopped replying.

Well had my last reply from Support as they asked me How I would rate the support… Silly question. Apparently the problem is with my ISP but just by looking on here I can see 7 other ISP’s whilst skimming the first page, So I cant see how its my ISP’s fault.

The way I see it now I have 2 options :
option 1 – deal with the lag when it happens and just dont play then, but refuse to spend any money on gw2 until this is sorted out
option 2 – find a different game to play – also means I dont spend any money in gw2

I have given up with support as I would be much better banging my head against a brick wall.

Go to any online game’s supppoer forum and the number 1 complaint is lag and disconnects, now if it was just A GW2 issue then there wouldn’t be an issue in any other game in the world but this is not the case if it was Anet, NCSoft, or any other part of the game with an issue then this would effect “EVERYONE” that is not the case. The only time I have ever had issues with the game is when the servers are having an issue “A REAL ISSUE” where Anet has come on to these forums and announced that they are having technical issues, or my isp is having issues I have been playing this game since release and can count on one hand how many time I have lost connection or have had lag and since the time this thread has started I have had no issues. So for those of you that can’t be convinced " IT’ S THE INTERENET" you might as well go play something else, because it not going to change anytime soon and it’s out of Anet’s control!

I’m sorry my friend but have you read any trace routes and can you understand any of the data in there?
The only two things that are consistent in the issues found across players both here and on reddit is that the issue started happening after the patch head of the snake and it’s a single Anet node that’s being problematic. cdnetworks-gw.ip4.gtt.net [77.67.71.122]

One more thing, do you work for Anet customer support? I noticed all your posts are in this subsection but you never really contribute to anything other than tell us to stop complaining and it’s always not Anet related. You should ask for a red tag maybe we can finally be happy someone from the company replied to their customer issues.

Nonetheless, I got an update from CS ticket myself, after a batch of troubleshooting and testing the new GM is asking me for the same troubleshooting tests as my previous one even though I keep sending data where NA works flawlessly and the EU account is problematic due to that node.

If this persists I guess I could ask the CS for a free transfer to NA for a season or two.

Again another example done just now.

Well good luck then, you even stated in your post above (the one with the tracerts) that the problem is at nodes not controlled by Anet. Anet is not responsible for the thousands of nodes that various players pass through across the globe. They are responsible for maintaining their servers. We as players have to provide our own connection. Your ISP has contracts with every node you pass through, your ISP controls your routing. If you want the problem fixed you need to contact them. The first couple of people you talk to will probably have no idea what you are talking about, you need to get them to keep pushing you up the support staff until you get someone that does. I have had the problem before and did what I needed to do to get it fixed.

There have been several people including myself that have tried to get this concept across to the people having issues. I’m done with this post and going to play some GW2. Best of luck to everyone.

I am having same issue ever since the last balance patch (may of been a little bit before can’t remember) but I am constantly getting high ping spikes 400+ when before this was happening it would be rare for my ping to spike even 30ms above what it normally is. Running a cmd ping with -t parameter shows a huge amount of packet loss to any of the /ip addresses I have tested. If I run a ping test to anything else, google, my friend, some random US website, even an EU website even though the ping is high due to where I live there is 0, not even 1 packet loss.

Even other MMOs which only have US servers have 0 issues what so ever, it is only GW2 since a week ago or so that this issue is happening. This is a ping to one of the GW2 servers- http://puu.sh/uqgWa/26094796e5.png
8% loss, that is nuts when I have 0% to ANYTHING else that I try and ping close or far from where I live.
There is a large number of people reporting this as a problem, and it is also happening to my friend who lives about 40 minutes drive from where I live, exact same lag . This is NOT an issue on our end, something has changed and the issue is either on Anets end or whoever they pay to host their servers.

Your best bet is to find out if it is anet that has a problem, or if it is part of the network between you and them. This guide covers doing so quite effectively: https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network

Note that it is entirely possible that “every other MMO” that you have tried has a different network route that doesn’t pass through the problem spot, but anet drew the short straw. (Also, that someone is complaining on the Blizzard forums right now about the same exact thing, only for WoW and not GW2…)

The big problem is that if it’s a third party between you and anet — which could also account for what SeABeaF encounters with their friend — then anet have a limited amount they can do to fix the problem. (likewise, your ISP would be equally limited.)

Good luck! I know this sucks. Getting an accurate picture of where it fails is a great way to help get the root cause fixed.

…and what does https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network say is the point at which packet loss and/or excessive delay shows up on the path between your computer and the anet server?

Are they simply dropping ICMP packets, or are they dropping traffic through the node as well? https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network has useful information on how to determine the difference.

This is getting out of hand.
I have several friends with which I am doing dailies, fractals, etc and we all experience sudden disconnects and huge lag spikes, no matter where we are.
It can happen in Dungeons, Fractals, Story missions or just roaming and it is happening for some time now.
We usually have 30-40 ms latency.
Would love a fix sometime this decade.

To all the people that might say ‘it might not be Anet’s fault, but your ISP":
-most of us are on the same ISP. How come only some of us get these lag spikes and disconnects at one point?
We use TeamSpeak so we know when this happens.

“Fun” fact: I recently did Migraine.
Can’t even count the number of people disconnected in the middle of the mission. Thus…9 freaking hours to get the darn achievement!

You do realize that at this level of traffic, Anet has contracts with big ISPs and traffic providers.
They don’t keep their servers on a residential line or the run off the mill fiber optic cable.
Best you do what you said at the end of your post and stop writing stuff you don’t know about.

I was out of this post till the personal attacks started. I do know what I am talking about. Anet does not have contracts with ISP’s and traffic providers they have their provider and that’s it. If I am not mistaken they manage their own connection and servers in-house. Us as players connect to them (Anet), they do not connect to us so they wouldn’t have anything to do with other ISP’s or traffic providers. Almost every if not every player that has taken the time to run ping plotter has shown the problem to be outside of the Anet servers and that is just what it is plain and simple, outside their servers.

Here is an Anet response that for the most part confirms what I said.

You said it yourself. See the bolded text above. If it was Anet everyone would have the problem. Not just your group but everyone connected to the server.

ANet does not have contracts with “big ISPs and traffic providers”. They will have one or two connections upward toward the “backbone” of the Internet, which is composed of a wide variety of commercial and non-commercial entities.

There may or may not be multiple different companies between them and the actual “backbone”, and there are increasingly likely to be multiple paths to different parts of the country, and different other providers, as you approach the actual “backbone” part of the Internet.

Those entities — transit providers such as level3, or Internet “exchanges” or “peering points” — allow traffic to flow around the “default free zone” through whatever the best available path is, and then it flows down through a similar path to eventually your ISP and your computers.

Some companies, such as Comcast, are large enough they internally operate something similar to a “transit provider” network, and then send traffic through to their own “city level” network, and then to your local nodes, blah blah, and eventually to where you and your friends have computers.

Ultimately, though, there are multiple parts and paths. Odds that ANet / NCSoft have any direct commercial relationship with your ISP approximate zero. The closest to that would be if there was an Internet exchange point near their data center, to which your ISP also subscribed, and which routed traffic directly between them.

It’s unlikely they would do what, say, Netflix do and negotiate directly connecting bandwidth to the ISP, though. They’d just use the normal peering agreements at the provider in which things jump between the networks through the peering routers at the ixp.

Please Anet do something

Everytime I join a PvP match or something like that my ping goes from 64ms to 3-4k ping directly. Everything is fine and suddenly I get this random spikes when I join instances or different maps.

It’s not my internet, I already checked everything and it only happens with Guild Wars 2. It’s going worse since few weeks ago.

Now it’s impossible to do anything, everytime I try to do something I get this horrible ping from nowhere, kicking me from the game to character screen or just freezing the game for some minutes.

There must be something wrong that is affecting to a lof ot EU players from different countries. I don’t wanna leave the game but if this continues like that I won’t have any choice to keep playing it.

At least reply this post :/

Yeah, it sucks. I can’t even play PvP myself as the ping spikes from 60 upwards to 4k+ and it freezes my character in place for a few seconds and gets me killed. This has been going on for a few months now and guildwars 2 is the only game that does this to me.

Just coming here and posting you have lag or high ping doesn’t help you or anyone else. Run pingplotter using an active map IP as the target and post the results. Pingplotter will show you where the problem is. Running speedtest or comparing it to other games/websites mean nothing. Not all servers are located in the same building/town/city/state or country. Your internet is routed differently to different places and the problem could be anywhere along that route.

If you are looking for specific help or response from Anet you will need to submit a support ticket using the support link at the top of the page.

Gator excuse me, only a question, it’s enough a gw2 diagnostic to send at my ISP or i need more evidence? I try a speed test but the connection result ok, i try to do a ping test in cmd and result are 40/50 ms, how can i prove an issue in their route?
Thank’s for help and sorry for noise

Do a google search for a program called “Pingplotter”, it’s free and it’s safe, many people use it. Download and run it. There will be a box to input an IP address, you will want to use the IP address of a map that you are in. Type /IP in the game chat window. Pingplotter will use that to test your connection. There are more detailed instruction on the pingplotter website.

https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network is a great guide to how to go through that whole process — it’s the thing Gator is referencing there, I suspect.

This will help figure out where the problem is, so you can hopefully get it fixed. (Since it’s probably not universal, so anet may not be able to do anything. :? )

Im done, i had bad connection just in gw2 during all “between seasons” time period and still have it when the season starts. There is no aswer from Arenanet and the only time i can play with my normal ping (70-90 ms) is if i use a program like WTFast or similar and i dont going to pay for a program just to get my ping in just one game. Ive been waiting so much.

Note that WTFast is just a VPN — it can only increase latency, not reduce it, in a “normal” network environment. If it improves your connection then there is some problem between your computer and the anet servers — that is not related to the anet servers.

(Why? Because if it was the anet servers, it would be common to both paths. They definitely must share the same servers, if you play gw2 with them, but they don’t need to share anything else beyond your first hop to the ISP.)

So, if you actually want to figure out how to fix this, https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network is a good guide to tracking down where in the path between you and anet the problem lies, and includes advice on how to end up getting it fixed.
