Is this an exploit?
I used about 400k karma on Orrian Jewelry boxes, trying to get the mini, and sold back the items I received. I am pretty sure we don’t have to destroy what we receive. If you are ever in doubt, contact Customer Support and ask about an action in-game, and whether it is an exploit.

Good luck. =)
If they didn’t want the jewelry boxes to be a source of gold :
We wouldn’t get the unidentifiable junk objects.
We wouldn’t get non-soul-bound crafting mats.
The jewelry boxes are set at what Anet finds to be an acceptable ratio of Karma-to-Gold, and if that changes, they’ll just change the cost of the jewelry box or adjust drop rates.
Unless you’ve found a way to make them reliably drop a lodestone or some such every time you open them, but that’s another matter.

Agreed. This conversion is premitted, I use it whenever I’m full of karma, the gain is not that much anyway.
