It doesnt work for me either… in USA server
Having the same problem on EU server. The client restarts like it’s going to patch when I select a character to play; except it doesn’t download any patch. Re-downloading the game now… going to take a while with my internet speed.

So this is my problem and its not the first time it has happened, much to my dismay. I login, select my character and load in. As I load in, much to my disappointment the game crashes, bumps me back to the launcher……rinse and repeat.
Now this has happened before, I deleted the Local.dat file, which produced a new error the deathly 58:11:5:128 I believe it was. Anybody got a fix on this issue without me having to go through this ridiculously laborious process of VPN’s and hotfixes?
Oh… and the -repair command line argument isn’t fixing this.
after download your new update game is heavy unplayable (massive lags/frezee/dc/error 7/ instant death without no reason and stil get dmg +8000 dmg every s when nobody attack me/cannot join wvw every time i try join its kick me or game dc/login issue/skill lags)

Unfortunately, I’ll echo this issue on my side as well – got past launcher into the character select screen only to crash a few moments after selecting “Play”. Never had much technical issues that couldn’t be solved, but this is rather beyond me. ^^
Tried -repair and lowering graphics to “Best Performance” as well, didn’t help any. I’m loading on Gandara (EU) from Singapore, hasn’t had any big problem until this one. Doesn’t seem to be a widespread issue seeing as some of my guild mates are playing without any problems (dungeons and World versus World).
Using -maploadinfo command line argument, it seems that loading went well until STATE_MODELS_STREAM before it crashes. Reproducible for two of my characters that are loading either to Black Citadel or Lion’s Arch.

right to anybody who may be watching, this seems to be a result of me not being able to download build data. Which is incredible ridiculous, if there is any employee of area.net paying attention. please note this and look into it

I am having this problem too. Would I need to download the whole game again? That would be a pain.

So it seems this affects a very small amount of players, I just hope the issue still gets the attention it deserves…
When I look at the Option menu form my character selection screen I can see that my client is still running the old build: 27,495.
According to the wiki the new update should be build: 27,836. For some reason my client isn’t updating??

The solution is to download a VPN run it and the client will begin updating. Once the client begins to download you can shut down the VPN.

Hey I can log on the patcher and get to character selection but once I select a character and the game is loading it just closes and goes back to the patcher?
I believe your problem may be somewhat like myne.
Same thing as you described was happening to me, all I had to do was log in without any tunneling program(battleping, directip, WTFast, etc).
This happened on my wife’s computer about a week or so ago after a new build and again today. I finally realized that it was my proxy server that was serving content from cache (apparently old data) which was causing the client to not update.
I ended up adding a cache bypass for “assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com” and the client updated properly. This may not be everyone’s issue but if you’re behind a caching proxy you might consider adding a bypass or flushing the cache.
EDIT: Additional thought: I’ve been running the same proxy config and version for at least 6 months and this issue just recently started. Not sure if something has changed on the server (Arenanet) side with cache hints but something seems to have changed recently.
EDIT2: If using VPN software to connect to an anonymizing service fixes the issue, it’s possible that some ISPs may have a transparent web cache that is affected by the same behavior I was seeing with my local proxy. Using VPN would bypass the ISP’s web cache as encrypted data is not cacheable. If so, it adds some weight to my theory that something has changed with the cache-control from Anet’s Content Delivery Network.

It’s happening me to me also, I think what happened was earlier on the day GW2 was doing something with their server routing and during their changes they messed up something and it isn’t working for some regions.
so you think we must wait and be patient ?

mines still having issues updates game fine , select any character loading screen pops up stays a few seconds then game restarts
I still have this issue at this moment. The client refuses to update after a restart so I could not log in.

It did not give me any error message. The game simply shut down and back off to the login when I double click a character to play, and afterward did not update so it’d shut down again when I login and double click a character. My location is southeast asia.

The devs worked some magic, and from what I understand this issue may have been fully addressed.

Had same issue ~30 mins ago, log in and then kicked back out since it isn’t the right version. Corrected by disconnecting and reconnecting my internet connection. Odd situation but at least multiple ways were found to get around the issue

Hi, I just tried and it still doesn’t seem to be working for me, unfortunately. The issue is as Mizstik described. As per the previous post, I’m connecting from Singapore.
Reading the posts, it seems like a game version issue and the launcher was trying to patch but not doing it (at least for me). On options, my game version is Gw2: 27495. Disconnecting and reconnecting my network didn’t help force the patch (I’m on campus connection). If I need to download the VPN to fix this, I could do that, though I’d prefer a more official solution if possible.
Thanks for the fast responses, Regina and Gaile, and I’m happy for those that can again play the game.
Edit: I’ll have to try any potential fixes when I come back later – going to work now.

Hi, I just wanted to say that I can’t download the patch yet.
The issue is like what the original poster said at the top.
ps. I haven’t try what Earthrune said yet. I’m still waiting for dev to solve this issue since i’m not really in a hurry.
