Network Lag [Merged]
Maassive lag this evening – been trying to play for past 2 hours. Was ok before work this morning and was ok yesterday. Now I can’t do anything in LA – just get DC’d each time I try to move. and Even the Champ train in Queensdale – was lagging horribly – but was able to do a little. (ISP = BT but network monitor showing great internet connection speeds 79/17 down/up)

I’m also experiencing terrible lag for a couple weeks now. Power and chat delays are making this game unplayable during peak hours with frequent deaths and disconnects.
This is only happening on GW2. Other PC games and Xbox Live are working perfectly.

Playing from day one, no lag issues and maybe 2-3 disconnects… ever.
Somewhere around New Year all goes weird, heavy lag spikes (sometimes 20 sec long in WvW), less in PvE. Same PC, same provider,even got my network upgraded about half a year into the game. Similar stuff goes for half of my guild. Now please tell us that this is our fault…
You know what else? Played Warhammer Online, great game, awesome RvR. They never got around lag issues, dropped from 2 mil players to 300,000 in just couple of months. Anet is going down that road, looks to me.
Same for me, MASSIVE lag from Costa Rica, it’s unplayable, it’s not even fun to be on any of the camps because even conversations take like 5 secs to appear.
This patch kittened it all for me, and I even made some posts but then again, anet probably will ignore this and tell everyone that replied this posts to check your firewalls, so yeah not worth it.

That is a graphical representation of the current DoS attacks going on in the world. When you are lagging, correlate your location with that map to see if you are just being affected by one of the various denial of service attacks.

So obviously this is being caused by a Ddos attack, but how long do you think it will be before we see some form of fix, or even acknowledgement? I’ve been very patient I’d like to think, but it would be nice to see anet inform us of something.

I’m from Spain and have the 100mb internet package with Ono. I have the exact same problem of massive lag, although i have it all day long.
I’ve called about 5 times to Ono and (of course) they say all my connections are fine, and that there’s no problem from their side.
So…There’s got to be a problem regarding Guild Wars 2 servers, right? This unplayable situation happened about a week ago, when that supposed DdoS attack to Cloudflare began.
Could an administrator of this forum please explain what’s going on? Or at least say something in any post regarding these issues, thank you.

Same problem as ppl above. Extreme lags between 2-9 pm. No problems from ISP.

Same problem here, i´m from Spain, ISP:ONO, and getting massive lag since few days ago. This is getting worse because the lag is more persistent every day.
Please Anet tell us what is happenning and if you plan on fix this, thank you.

Yep, I’ve been getting the same issue thats getting worse and worse. I havent been able to play since 12noon today and Its still unplayable. Doesnt look like anet care enough to even try sort anything.
Network lag and disconnect problem solved
1. Uninstalled GW2
2. Delete all residue
3. Install a game that does not have the problems

Same for both me and my wife other than it started with the Edge of the Mist patch and continued with the last patch meaning over the last 3 weeks we have probably logged on for no more than an hour and in this time we have spent more time on a loading screen or dc’ing than actually playing the game.
We have even tried reporting the issue in game as a bug even that would not work due to the lag, dc’ing etc.
Frustrating as we both enjoy the game but this is beyond a joke and about time that Anet sorted this, but doubt they will as someone will point out that it is down to our internet, pc’s etc as we are both having issues (regardless that no other games or applications we use have this problem)
Same here….It’s very annoying since this happens for hours.
Its not my pc specs, nor my internet connection. I tried to play the game on different PC, with different ISP, same problems. Especially Saturdays and Sundays, game is unplayable.
Arenanet, pls just answer on this thread, even if u say “Kiss our a**es” its still better than nothing :P.

Is this being looked into? The game got unplayable since yesterday morning… Oddly enough, I was able to play late last night just fine, without altering any settings, so I’m pretty sure this whole thing isn’t client-sided (nor do I see how could it be client related as we were able to play just fine until now). An official statement on this would be nice.
I cannot download the updates. My launcher slows down to 0.00 KB/sec and stays there. This is not my pc or my isp, since I can play other games and run speedtests just fine (while I’m getting 0.00kb from Anet).
Every time I report this to your customer support I get a pointless set of instructions to check my programs running in the back ground. It’s not me, Anet, it’s you. Please can you investigate what is holding up traffic to South Africa (I’m on the Aurora Glade server).
Also, during peak times lag becomes crazy. (or it was, last weekend) I have not been able to log in since the patch released on Tuesday. Very frustrating.
@Diamond Llama.9328 I had that too yesterday, couldn’t log in at all, it’s not on your end.
Only thing you can try is to change your DNS server to google DNS or openDNS to try to bypass the faulty Anet network resource, but chances of success are slim to none.

Started the day at about 8:00 CET with lots o’ of lag, at about 13:00 CET the lag went away, only to appear again at 17:16 CET + 7:11:3:191:101 error on DC.
While the lag was (is) in full force I tried a continuous ping to the 195.16.161.58 hop which went through without problems/zero packet loss and good latency while disconnecting a few times and lagging. Hops 13 and 14 I guess are firewalled to block ICMP traffic.
So if all the route before the firewalled hops was ok, then the issue may be of internal server issues or other problems in the server network.

New Zealand isp inspire. Past few days have noticed crippling lag spikes. Ping seems to vary from 250ms but can periodically spike to several seconds. Game is unplayable at present.
Skill lag has been horrendous. Full minute skill lag during peak times and the game freezes up before crashing with the error 7 code. That is if I can even login at all. I keep getting stuck on loading screens for ages and ages. I try reloading the game repeatedly and sometimes I get lucky to get loaded in if I just leave it, it eventually crashes. I can even hear the audio in the background but it just won’t let me in the game. This has been happening for nearly 2 weeks now and getting worse every day.
Oddly enough the chat in-game seems unaffected most of the time and I can type in real time while the lag is occurring. I do sometimes get the error 42 code and my guild disappears. I appear the only one in it and everyone shows as offline. When that happens only map and local chat is working. Party, whisper and guild chat completely disappear/break.

Severe Lag Problem in Spain with ISP:ONO.
I am getting problems with network as well, I was busy trying to get the point of interest at the drill in LA then the game kicked me out then when I tried to come back in and I was on the character select screen and clicked play, the button went gray and did nothing further, such irritate.
I cant play… impossible…. Im from SPAIN, ISP is ONO….
We have problems for 9 days i think… can anyone help uS pls?

Since 2 weeks ago, when the “escape from lion’s arch” event was about to be released, Ono users all around Spain started having serious connection issues. 30 seconds lag. DC every 2 minutes, making the experience impossible to enjoy.
Us, the Spanish Guild Wars 2 community, have complained about this serious problem in both English and Spanish Forums, with only a “We’re aware of the problems, please forgive us.” for an answer.
If this problem persists, I’m afraid a lot of Spanish Guild Wars 2 users will cease to play the game, leaving Arenanet without a lot of loyal costumers.

I have had no issues at all with network lag or latency until today. I waited to join the Escape from Lion’s Arch event at 14:05 GMT on Gandara (not overflow), entered the event and played for about 15minutes before hitting huge lag spikes and being disconnected. I am now unable to log on ANY of my characters, even ones that are not in this zone.
Router: Thompson TG582N
PC: Intel Core i7 3770K @ 3.5GHz, 16GB DDR3 RAM, Gigabyte 4GB GTX760 GPU, Corsair SSD 525/535 W/R
OS: Windows 8 64bit
I logged into the game after many attempts and was able to chat in guild (but not in world or map) so typed /ip and have attached some network stats for your review.

Just an additional note, I was able to log on perfectly fine wthout lag immediately after the LA event had ended at 14:50. However, I then travelled to another world event in a different zone (IP: 206.127.159.81) and had no lag until I reached the event where there were other players and then had 2-3minute lag spikes until being disconnected. After the event, I was still lagging and have now given up on trying to play.

Terrible today – disconnecting every spvp match after 5 minutes or so.
This is properly kittened. Skills don’t work and then the client crashes, like it’s ridiculous, and no, it’s no my isp. I know that everyone is being told that it’s their isp, but lets be honest, we all know it’s not that. So get on it and just fix it, or I’m going to have to go play Tera again.

While lag was going on, a continuous ping to hops 11 and 12 (ae-1-60.edge6.Frankfurt1.Level3.net [4.69.154.10] and 195.16.161.58) went through without issues/packet loss.
Can’t get in game for more than a few seconds at the moment – keep disconnecting.
I have network lag, since the last patch. My net works OK, I have tested it on other sites. I can’t even play the game. I enter, the mobs don’t attack me, I press the skills, symbol is active but nothing happens. When I press to teleport to a waypoint, I am sent back to menu. Numerous disconnection problems. I am playing on Seafarer Rest.
im from turkey and game is completely unplayable,even i cant login and when i do im disconnecting instanly,im quite sure its not about my ISP or computer because as we can see so many ppls having this issue and my internet works well atm

After weeks of this and answering all questions support have been emailing me,
they are now suggesting all this (timed) lag is being caused by “windows applications running in the background on startup” or failing that “turn off any firewalls etc”
The mind simply boggles…

Big lag here. Fort Aspenwood server. I live in Croatia. Lag is everywhere. PvP, PvE and WvW. However, Trade post works perfectly, no delay at all.
And yeah, my connection is great.
TL;DR Note: Use a VPN service to test whether game or your ISP is the problem (VPN details below).
I don’t know what they changed about their connectivity but my problems started at the day of last patch. Before the patch I had no problem about lag (as long as one of human beings in my house does not download porn), skill lag or connectivity. But that day I started to have problems that people already explained above my post.
First, I blame the game because my internet speed was fine (actually it is 20mbit if we don’t exceed 75gb limit. If we exceed that limit our connection speed drops to 3mbit. My connection dropped 3mbit at 16 February[two days before patch] and will remain until March ). Because, my download speed, for both torrent and direct, seemed to be at highest and there were no problems about opening websites, etc. Moreover, I had no problems between 16-17 February and before prime time at 18 February. After 19:00 pm according to my country, huge skill delays, constant connection losings and several problems started to occur until 00:00. I tried to figure out why it is happening and find a solution in this forum thread; however, there is no solution except one: VPN.
I saw a post about traffic shaping in here, but since my download speeds was fine (even while using torrent for download) I thought it wasn’t the real reason. Yet, I tried to connect GW2 while using VPN connection to test whether it is my ISP or game. The steps I followed:
- I just wanted to do test so I tried 24 hours of trial from this VPN service: http://www.hideipvpn.com/
- Just give your name/surname/mail and get your 24 hours trial account.
- Download the connection program and login with your username/password
- Select OpenVPN and country (I selected UK since I am in EU) and server from that country.
- Connect and test your game.
After I connected via VPN all my problems were gone. Just 10 minutes ago, I couldn’t even enter the game and I tried VPN solution again. It worked! You can try to use my solution to solve your problem too.
So, my guess is both Anet and our ISPs are roots of our problem. Anet using some kind of stuff in their connectivity thingies that ISPs tend to kitten our game. ISPs are definitely shaping packages that are going to game servers but I have no idea why they are doing it. Because, as I said I have no problem with download speed or other internet related stuffs.
