Looks like BT have turned off the tap again, become unplayable around about 5 and i bet the lag magically disappears around 11pm againkittenBT and youre crappy internet.

I am on BT and I am not currently (as in right this minute) having issues. However I have had them over the past week or so. Please do your bit and contact BT and complain.

It honestly might not even be them at fault because it seems hit and miss about who is affected. However complaining to them is the only way to get them to take notice. I’ve posted on their forums and so far they seem to be ignoring it, however if more people join in we can at least get them to investigate and they might be able to escalate it to a higher issue if it is not down to them.

Buy yeah, I can confirm that when I have issues they seem to vanish around 11pm. Saying that I have looked at forums for some other MMO’s and people all around Europe seem to be having similar issues on other games.

I’m having the same issues that Badger was having at ae-11-11.car2.SanDiego1.Level3.net (4.69.133.210) for the traceroute thing and my isp basically sent me in circles with no answer. T.T I really have no idea what to do.

As for the response question, some routers have NHRP disabled so thats why they * * * out, or dont respond to ICMP during trace routes.

What about the missed pings at 6? I assume that’s Dallas (dal) where everybody else is losing their packets… which is Anet’s server.

traceroute is done by opening command prompt (type “cmd” without quotes into windows search bar).

Then in the window that opens type the following: tracert 206.127.158.1

Then hit enter and wait.

The thing is it is unlikely to show any issues. Please complain to BT as well. We need to get a decent number of complaints logged to get them to look into it as well. It might not be BT directly causing the issue, but they are in a better position to deal with it than we are.

Thanks Steakpuncher. Heres the results anyway. This means nothing to me Although to me number 12 seems like a big jump?

What exactly would I say to BT if I spoke to them?

I don’t know if its worth mentioning but upon googling

fra23.ip4.tinet.net [89.149.181.157] (the one I thought looked funny on mine)

It seems to be popping up over the LoL forums as a tipping point in their trace routes. They seem to be having this same issue at the moment as well.

Tinet seems to be pointing me to a data providing company which to my uneducated brain seems to make sense.

I have been disconnecting once or twice a day (well, night seeing as I only play in the evening) since the EotM patch was released. Now this evening I cannot load LA at all, when I load a character outside of LA I cannot use any skills and I cannot join any WvW map.

I am on BT in the UK and have run tracert;

There’s a jump at 12, but can’t see any obvious issues?

Also, when attempting to join a WvW map I can hear it load and people are telling me they can see my character at the waypoint, but it’s simply not loading on screen.

To add to this, if I tab out and hover over the Guild Wars 2 icon in my taskbar I can see my character is standing at the waypoint in WvW, but when I maximise Guild Wars 2 it’s still on the loading screen.

Tracked this down to getting routed by my ISP (Verizon Fios) to Europe! I’m in the US but my data is getting bounced to Netherlands and back. I’m like WTF so I call Verizon. They say it doesn’t make sense either but they believe the Anet server is publishing false routing info. At this point I’m not sure if Verizon is blowing smoke and they have no clue or if it is an issue with the Anet servers. Would be nice if Anet addressed this from their end to assure us it is not their servers.

I just traced my routes, of the two connections GW2 uses, one timed out somewhere in the Anet servers and the other got pinged from France to Washington and then to Dallas. What a joke, I know this isn’t my ISP, get it together!!!! I can’t even see other players move without them stuttering and rubber banding.

Verizon can verify that very easily with their BGP ASN pathing. If Anet’s servers were publishing martians into the BGP cloud (sounds weird, but that is a Technical term) then EVERYONE would be affected.

But again, this is extremely easy for any ISP to verify by simply looking at their BGP Routing table for the destination network (NCSoft’s Servers).

Just a reminder – that Ping Path is COMPLETELY useless. STOP POSTING Them.

Instead run tracert, it gives ALOT more valid information then PingPath does.

Your issue is not internet facing, in between YOU and your ISP is a private (RFC) router running 10.10.10.5, that is probably the cause of your Latency/Connection issues.

Whoever controls your internet connection needs to be contacted. And not your ISP directly.

Would you do me the favor of doing a traceRT showing the pathing from the US, out to France, and back to the US for Anets connection?

Tracked this down to getting routed by my ISP (Verizon Fios) to Europe! I’m in the US but my data is getting bounced to Netherlands and back. I’m like WTF so I call Verizon. They say it doesn’t make sense either but they believe the Anet server is publishing false routing info. At this point I’m not sure if Verizon is blowing smoke and they have no clue or if it is an issue with the Anet servers. Would be nice if Anet addressed this from their end to assure us it is not their servers.

Would you do me the favor of doing a traceRT showing the pathing from the US, out to France, and back to the US for Anets connection?

Reread what I typed. My connection is getting bounced to Amsterdaam (had to misspell cuz of cuss filter, go figure) Netherlands and back. I did the tracert thing, that is why I know this. Verizon will not let me talk to a network engineer or someone with a clue so that option is out the window. It does seem strange that a lot of people are having this issue but not sure if they are also getting routed to BFE and back like I am. If Anet is still saying it is not their servers then I’m at a dead end support wise.

We also called BT and spoke to a supervisor. Apparently they have now knowledge of changing anything and are wondering if GW2 / anet have changed anything that could result in throttling, they also said they might have to be in touch with anet (took much convincing though that this is not only a problem of ONE client). I havent been on the phone myself, so I do not know all the details.

I do think it would be good if more BT users with latency problems responded to the threat at https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/BT-throttling-online-games-guild-wars-2-all-the-sudden/m-p/1167366#M127329

I will see how tonight goes and if the issue persists then I’ll give them a call tomorrow to add further pressure

Just to keep it visible, Cayenne has posted a thread here on the BT forums. If you are a BT customer and are having these issues, it is imperative that you go here and post a comment: https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/BT-throttling-online-games-guild-wars-2-all-the-sudden/m-p/1167366#M127329

If you call BT they will either do basic diagnostics, or try and suggest this problem is only affecting you, regardless of the number of calls they get, I know this from working in a call centre for an ISP. The people you get through to on the phone have two jobs to perform. They are to get you off the line as quickly as possible regardless of the issue being solved. More importantly, if you want your issue escalated they have to offer maximum resistance to this happening.

Quite surreal what’s happening. It’s taking minutes to load any map, sometimes not loading at all and requiring me to close the client. I managed to load up and make my way to some ore to start gathering for daily, but I couldn’t interact with the ore and gather it. Then I disconnected.

Re-logged and gathering worked. I ran around for a bit and made it to a tree to gather more. I chopped at that tree for a good minute at least whilst my pet (Ranger) killed a mob for me. Couldn’t loot it no matter how much I tried and trying to deposit that wood and ore I had gathered was impossible. Disconnected and now can’t load any character at all.

Never had any latency issues like this before.

still getting horrible lag since the last patch. It seems to be a lot worse during the afternoon/late afternoon hours (US time). WvW is completely unplayable. Skill lag and not being able to see what’s going on in a battle is really not fun.

Lots of people in my guild from all across the country are also experiencing this problem.

If indeed the problem is EoTM and the server’s capacity to handle the load then maybe you should take down EoTM. Just an idea.

I am a UK player on Orange as ISP (who use BT infrastructure). I can get to the character select screen, but I’ve not been able to login any character for the last 2 days; however, if I use battleping (http://battleping.com) I can login and play, so I assume that there is a network problem somewhere with BT.

All well and good, but you (and we) shouldn’t be forced to pay for such services on top of what we’re already paying. The ISP simply need to resolve the issue and ANet could probably assist.

Can confirm battleping gets round the problem but as you say why should we pay for a service just because bt cant sort there crap out

Alright squish, here ya go. The 2 routers in VA also belong to Verizon even though they are listed as dba. Somehow, the last router in VA is throwing my traffic over to Europe before it gets routed back to TX. Have at it…
