Network Lag [Merged]
Well, a new week, maybe now they will by make tomorrow a patch to fix this….And an answer from a Dev wouldnt hurt, since that already hundreds of ppl got this problem that started 3-4 days ago in most cases., some of them even for 2 weeks. So please, fix this ASAP.
I can confirm that using a VPN service fixed the problem. That’s what I’ve been using for the past 3 days now.
Hi everyone,
It seems that ArenaNet is working together with BT in order to solve the conectivity problems with european servers. I’m very glad to hear that. At least, ArenaNet reccognices that there is a problem. However, according to this post (I’m sorry, but it is in spanish) https://forum-es.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Problema-con-ono, ArenaNet is not working together with ONO (an spanish ISP) to solve the same conectivity problems we have in Spain.
David Ortiz ( European Community Team Lead) has just written a post in the aforementioned forum telling us that ONO has not contacted ArenaNet yet. I’m sure ArenaNet is not only focused in solving conectivity problems with BT and not with ONO, but I encourage ArenaNet network team to conctact ONO in order to work together and solve our conectivity problems as well. I honestly think I’m not asking for anything special. Just the same that british users (BT) have from ArenaNet.
2-3 days i had lags around this hour, now i dont, even with tons of ppl at Tequatl. Maybe they’ve fixed, or maybe it has to do with entering in LA, main of overflow, and after that the lags are coming.
Do we have an ETA as to when BT are expected to resolve the issues? My ISP is a BTW (BT Wholesale) product with no restrictions.
I use utility called WinMTR to ‘simulate’ a connection/stream to the same IP that my game client is currently connecting to. The test that I have attached was run while in-game and connected to the LA event (not overflow) and while I was experiencing the lag. Interestingly, the test does not show any lost packets or latency.
Is there a specific IP address we should be pinging to test our connection route to the game servers? I have been typing /IP in-game to see the current server I am connecting to.

…what will anet do about everyone who isn’t on BT and having the exact same issue?
In spain, People who has ONO as internet company are having the same issues of lag and disconnections… And the most people on spain has ONO so… xD
its not only spain or the british isles the same problem is in eastern europe poland romania and ironically romania has one of the best net speed and reliability in europe so i dont know what anet can do by talking to the net providers the solution seems to be to close the game for a few hours and redo their latest patch couse we had problems with that too a lot of ppl were stuck at 1 file to download only in the late night the problem was fixed so the patch is the real issue here
Romania is in top5, even top3 at one of the best internet connection in the world, so no way it’s from us, or other ppl from other countries. After the last patch, few days ago, after that all this started for many ppl, so it’s cuz of the patch, cuz of their servers, but no way cuz of our internet or dunno what else.
No is from last patch…at marionette we already had the issues of lag and disconnections.. 11 days ago from today
Strange, some ppl started at marionette, 2-3 weeks ago, some ppl started after last patch 3-4 days ago, so what proofs other ppl need to see that is not from us?
Keep disconnecting
Unplayable.

PLEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE fix this annoying lag.
I can not play on the game at all. This is very annoying.
One option I’ve tried that seems to work is to enable the -maploadinfo option. Amend the properties of your GW2 shortcut’s Target setting to
“C:\…\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -maploadinfo
This seems to force bi-directional communications with the server, so the connection doesn’t drop. it also tells you how far the map has loaded.
Me and my partner keep getting serious network lag ingame. Basically spells light up but dont fire off, people run on the spot then jump 10yards and repeat. We catch up if we wait AGES or relog usually, but sometimes its key areas such as in ARAH earlier tonight, or the LA event at the old mystic forge ..
Its making the game unplayable atm, I mean, our network is 10ms, 80mb DL 20mb UL. Other games are stable its only on gw2.
Any help?

What is this a fix for ?
TL;DR Note: Use a VPN service to test whether game or your ISP is the problem (VPN details below).
Yes. Your method seems to work so far. Problem being it’s temporary and also it’s annoying that I have to do stuff like this.
Since I am not tech-savvy, does this mean it’s my ISP or ANet’s fault?
Cannot get past the character load screen at the moment (for almost an hour of trying) for whatever reason.
The lag was prevalent last night; especially so in the Lions Arch living story.

I think ANet did some kind of optimization magic that ISPs do not like to handle. I am monitoring different players’ posts in here and we are all having same problem almost at exact same time interval (and this time interval is prime time for EU).
24 hours of trial is temporary but you can buy one year VPN service. To be honest I don’t trust Anet people to fix this problem before months. Even if they proved me wrong, VPN is good anyways =)
As a suggestion, “http://cyberghostvpn.com/” in this link, that I can’t enter now, one year of VPN service was 22 euro with discount.
I appreciate people are busy but is there any chance of Anet giving an update on these issues in English, on this thread? Or am I expected to translate the Spanish thread linked in a post above, which seems to be getting all the attention from our European Community Team Lead?
UK BT, same issues, same symptoms (skill not working, people walking to walls, unlimited boons, unlimited conditions, unlimited dodges, all culminating in error 7, while chat works). Same time window: EU prime time.
Question: where is Anet in all this? how many other hundreds of posts do you need to get back to us?
Where is your usual: “we are aware of the issue and working on it”?
Where is your usual: “we are aware of the issue and working on it”?
Going by a loose translation of the spanish thread post linked a few posts up it says just that. They’re working on it and are sorry for the inconvenience. But that was like 5 days ago.
Okay so I’ve also tried the VPN solution and it does offer a fix. However, I don’t feel it is right that we have to buy a VPN service to play a game that was fine for the majority of us up until the past few weeks. This is Anets problem and it’s sad that they are making no effort to keep us updated on what they’re doing to fix it.
I’m from spain and i have the same problem. mi ISP isONO
I know a lot of the lag and DCs are ISP-related, but for those having issues and not sure where they are coming from, try this link to evaluate your network:
http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/index.html
The smart folks at Berkley came up with it, and it helped me track down my issues, which ended up being a combination of a dying modem, and several issues with my line.
This also helped: (It’s something of a tracert and ping test wrapped into one)
I don’t know if this is related, but since the last update, I have had one of 2 problems:
1) The screen freezes and only a shutdown of game via Task Manager is possible.
2) I lose connectivity with server when I change zones, or shortly after I change zones.
I changed graphic settings to deal with the issues I had with 1, and then I started to get issues with 2. It isn’t consistent, so it’s hard to pin down the cause.
Edit: added pic of error code:
Edit 2: The error also has shown on other computer, making this some issue with the network, connection or client.

I am still experiencing periodic lag. Today is quite bad as it is affecting me in all zones, no matter what I am doing. I just tried to do a dungeon and was kicked form the group because my lag was so bad.
The attached WinMTR ping test was done to the IP of the dungeon while I was experincing the lag.
So.. Do I have to use the VPN fix just to play the game?
It became worse with each new update (lags, etc.), but however the game was still playable.
Since the last Update (Escape from Lion’s Arch) it’s horrible. Very often I simply cannot connect. It needs a lot of time to bring me into the character menu and then I try to connect to the game, but it a) doesn’t let me in and kicks me out after a long waiting time or b) it loads and loads and loads and kicks me out after a long waiting time.
It starts around 9am (gw2 time).
I play from NZ (~6am) via the European server.
Until recently it was playable and my internet connection is fine. I can do everything like before except connecting to GW2.
Playing in the evening (which means morning in EU) doesn’t give that problem, there mostly some lags occur. But in the end I am at least able to get into the game and play it.. even with these lags/ dcs.
But now sometimes it needs one hour (in which I am not able to get into the game) and then suddenly it works fine again as there were no problems at all, but today it’s 2.5h and it just does not work.
So I tried the vpn solution and it immediately worked and let me play.
I also asked someone to try to connect through the connection at his work which also worked. I think they have another ISP there.
The question now is: How does that fit together? What happened since the last update that it seems I have to use a VPN to just get into the game?
I am not talking about the lags or dcs anymore. I am really confused why the connection to the game is such a problem.

Another “lags since update” post
By now I’m used to this issue but the patch was a few good says ago and it still lags.
Anet please this is unacceptable. we all payed for this game but can’t always play it.
Game is out for a long time and lag issues always returns.
If your server can’t handle the load – then buy more.
This should not be our problem.

I wouldn’t have the first clue about all that. sirsquishy.8531 would be the person to ask, as he seems pretty knowledgeable about that sort of thing. I never delved too deeply into networking when I went back to school. Just enough to be dangerous/piss off techs :P
I have a weird theory that It might have something to do with the new patches that come out + your isp = doesn’t work. I have a weird isp that I dont think many people have (Metrocast). When this update came I stopped being able to play at NA prime time. Everyone else in my guild is fine but they are mostly in eastern time with time warner whereas I am in central with metrocast. I just wants to plahy teh gahmes

In the evening it’s working without VPN.
Evening means 6pm NZ time, which means 6am in Germany.. I’m on Drakkar-Lake[DE], so that might be a big issue that I am having more troubles at German peak times and less in the morning.
It wasn’t always like that, yes I had more lags at peak times, but the game was still playable. After the last patches and updates it’s not just “a lag or a dc then and now”, it is just not working at all (without the use of VPN).

Lag, Skilllag, DC, Network errors, stuck in place, Ui delay, and anything working in general. again.. this has been going on for about 2 weeks straight now.
If you can’t help the Ddos attacks, maybe shut the game down and fix things.. this is the best time for it, since noone is playing this game atm..

Getting skill delays, huge lag spikes, and disconnects this morning in just about every zone.

And today I had no problems in the morning (so I did not use VPN).. that’s weird.
What’s going on there?

I’ll be honest. This is bothering so much, I’m really considering to just stop playing until this issue is resolved.
Still no information out for this issue?
This issue has been happening on NA servers too btw. I see a lot of people saying they were having problems with EU servers.
Skill and server lag so bad it’s impossible to play at times. Have been having a lot of game crashes lately. Only happens with GW2 and nothing else.
Scarlet Vera/Isobel Crowley/Alistar Reinhelm
Im playing the game trough a VPN connection now and that seems to work. Should not be acceptable that I have to use a VPN to play GW2….
I have skill lag atm. Even chat laggs for few seconds sometimes….
I tried to ping www.guildwars2.com and I got like 200ms. Other websites were fine. So I guess Anet servers are having some issues atm. Normally I have like 40ms.
OMG unplayable atm…
Dear arenanet, the amount of lag and dc’s your game causes today is absolutely intolerable.
Never had any problems in the past, but now it is actually so bad it’s close to unplayable.
it’s not my network, everything works fine, pings fine.
Even your website has issues loading (takes way longer than any other page) but that may be because many people want to voice themselves concerning the state of the stability today.
Can i just ask what ISP you guys are with?
Yup I’m having this problem right now. It was fine hours ago in the morning (I went to work in the afternoon),
Keep getting stuck on loading maps and after 10 mins it finnaly kicks me out. My isp is BT
