Network Lag [Merged]
Definitely something on their end. I’m in California, and I’m getting pretty bad lag, but only in overflows and fractals. If I’m in other dungeons or the main instances, everything is fine and dandy.
I’m in the midwest. Running on Fort Aspenwood server. I’ve never had a lag issue before, but at the moment I can’t play sPVP because of it. There’s almost a full second before thief teleportation skills kick in. It’s impossible to play. In a downed state it took 5 seconds teleport location: yes 5 seconds. My bandwidth is rock solid 4 Mbps up and 25 Mbps down. Please address this, as I only play sPvP, this breaks the game.
Was getting minor lag in fractals but sPvP was pretty much unplayable (Sanctum of Rall). Not my connection or my pc, everything else works flawlessly. Please fix this ArenaNet.
Chicago here, been lagging a lot (skill delays/ppl teleporting) recently for the past 5 days. Got Comcast Xfinity, and it was lag free since launch till 5 days ago. Gets really annoying when your lagging in WvsW or Fractals since timing is really crucial there. Lag usually starts around 5-6pm CST till 11-12pm CST.
Last two nights I have been having significant lag problems. It has been enough of an issue for our sPvP team that we are unable to play or compete at any reasonable level.
Last night in particular one of my Gw2.exe processes was consisntatly over 400ms in the Resource Monitor. Tonight, all three Gw2.exe processes are above 300ms.

Hi all. Massachusetts here. Huge lag spikes, disconnecting me about every 10 minutes for about an hour’s play. I give up. Brutal lag spikes for the past two days.
Good morning.
Logged in again this morning, and it literally seems like the whole Internet is a mess. :-)
Really horrible tracert’s with a few hops timing out, and bad bad lag spikes in the game — 3-4 seconds for button actions to execute, etc.
I sent a ticket for the lag and disconnects. They tell me to buy a 25 dollar program to help them test my connection.
I’m over it.

What? You’re kidding, right?
There is also this thread that is exactly the same issue. Maybe merge this here also.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Extreme-lag-server-side
I posted there before seeing this one, but to quote myself..
Server: Aurora Glade EU
The title of this post is bang on. Extreme is the word I would use. Skills delay 3-4 seconds, you think you are in one location but really you are somewhere else. You can forget about any PvP. But it never used to be this way. At launch, I could run in 100 man WvW zergs & hardly lose any FPS, & zero skill delays.
The lag is sooo bad at the moment, I may have to quit (I’m not even going to go into the Disconnects going through just about every single Asura Gate or Map Portal).
Don’t get me wrong, I love the game, but when it’s barely possible to play & no fun anymore, then there is no motivation to switch on.
My 2 cents on the issue is that it gets worse at peak server times. Whether the server can’t handle the people on it or what, I have no clue.. but Please fix this or more players will be become fed up enough to quit.

As for your connectivity issue, I would recommend running a Ping Plotter test to see where the disconnects are happening on the way to our server. This program is not supported by NCsoft or ArenaNet. You can find the program and information on how to use it at http://www.pingplotter.com/download.html.
1. Please download and install the standard version of PingPlotter (the free version will not let you save the report).

Since the last patch there has been a huge increase in lag for most people, including me. Want to see something funny? Open your contacts menu and watch your FPS drop by 1/3.
AN something was messed up last patch and we’d like a fix soon because it makes WvW interesting (not in a good way) when you’re attacking a zerg and suddenly everything goes into hang mode and when it comes back you’re dead.
Another night when I get back and finally able to play some GW2, the lag make it impossible to play, sad to say but this is really pissing me off, such a great game but the company running it did such a poor job at keeping it working.

Your FPS has nothing to do with network lag.
I really hoped the last patch would have somehow fixed the network lags.
But no, it’s back… the servers (at least tPvP) started to lag again around 7pm.
I can’t play (or very badly), still no official world about that issue…
I’m really starting to regret all the cash I poured into the game.
I have lag too(on PvP worlds, Eternal Battlegrounds and all the other Borderlands, and on pve too when i find more than 5 people on 1 event i start lagging), after the 3rd december patch, it’s not my ISP, but it’s the game, i played other games and i didint lag

Basically what the program does is a series of traceroutes on a timer.
Still no official comment?
What the heck is going on? I was running good till last night started noticing some hiccups, now today is just …unplayable lag. I am looking at my connection and I am not seeing any issues running anything else, or multiple things at one time, only GW2. Any info?
Latency is unbearable tonight, again.

Lag has been atrocious for the last several weeks now. I’d say ever since the Lost Shores Update. For brief periods of time it will be fine, but then I’ll get lag spikes where it takes 1-2 seconds from the time I press a skill button to when it activates or when I press search to when the item is picked up.
Still lagging at times~ fix it~ so many complains cannot be our connection~

No reply for 3 hops. Assuming we reached firewall.
I know I’m a long way away but when i first got this game it ran without any problems, minimum FPS of 31 (it still runs like that) but ever since shadow of the mad king and even the last patch the game is unplayable. I really don’t want to quit this game.
The only thing I’m glad to see here is that I’m not the only one having this problem. Since that last little patch on Monday (And the Micro Patch just yesterday), I’ve been getting 5-10 secnd delays in any action I tried to do, weather it be gathering, fighting, or just trying to talk to an NPC. Sometimes it would lag to the point where I’d get booted and I would always get Error Code: 7:11:3:189:101. Because of this lag, the game is currently unplayable for me and I would really like to be able to play.
There should seriously be a fix for this already.

Hello, my first post on this forum is a complaint but I have to do it.
Since the last update the game works normally for me until I go in any dungeon.
As soon as we start fighting, my character will act like lagging and will not use any skill but I can write on chat and I see what people reply to me without any lag.
Please solve this. I never had this problems before the last update and my internet connection works fine.
I’ve been getting horrendous lag for the past month.
Weird thing is, I’m only lagging when there’s a huge number of people around, i.e. claw of jormag event, to the point I rubberband all over and eventually get DCed.
I’m completely lag-free when I PvE solo or with a small group.
related to this? I have no idea, but please fix it.

I’m pretty sure my ISP didn’t change anything and I was fine when I started 2 months ago.
Another unplayable peak server session. Logging off so I don’t waste my time.
& you want people to spend money on this game?
I hope the support won’t mind but here is the answer they gave me :

“Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention today. We have seen issues for a few weeks now with France Telecom and it’s connection to Guild Wars 2. We have narrowed down that this is a routing issue with the ISP and we do not have any way to fix this. We can verify this is your issue by Running a ping plotter test (below). Please run this test during the hours when you are having issues. "
Well at least it’s a known issue, and I’m not the only France Telecom player encoutering it… so now I’m going to run their tests, send it, and I guess I’ll just have to wait & see.
I’m just gonna leave this here.

Experienced that a couple of times. Trying to use pingplotter to troubleshoot my connection, and Anet server 206.127.146.73 is at about 30% packet loss. No other steps on my way to them shows any packet loss at all, and ping is rock solid.
ISP checked my connection – it’s working excellent according to what they can measure.
I’m just gonna leave this here.

I’ve been having similar lag issues. I’ve had the game for about 2 weeks now, but last night was the first time I’ve had any lag issues of this magnitude. Hope Arenanet fixes this ASAP!

When there are dozens of ISPs around the world with “routing issues”, and the ping spikes are considerably higher than anything you see on the traceroute, this just looks like a predictable “not our problem” fobbing off.
Why is this still not fixed? It’s obviously a problem with peering/routing of traffic into Texas. Arenanet needs to get on this.
Various people throughout Florida are getting packet loss into servers in Texas (where the GW2 servers are located).
I’m getting 4% packet loss which is completely unplayable. For the past week or so every server in Texas shows 4% loss while every other server throughout the US shows zero.
please, fit this. Im getting really sick of it, seriously. i cant pve, i cant do Spvp. COME ON. woke up today, theres an update, and my dl speed was 600kbps. i tot they fixed it, logged in and its still the SAME. i play WoW, D3, smooth as shampoo, no SPIKE, no DELAY, no LAG.. AT ALL. so please, reply something, let us know if you’re aware of it ANET. I love how WoW reply so fast and efficient, learn smtg from them. ty
I hope the support won’t mind but here is the answer they gave me :
(note : France Telecom is my Internet Service Provider)“Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention today. "

I don’t see how this is a client issue since I’m from the other side of the world and my routing will take a totally different path. Unless when our ISP’s hit the USA they go through the same ISP State side and that 3rd party ISP is total kittens.
I am also having severe lag issues like the ones described above: activation of skills is delayed by 2-30 seconds at times, I encounter extreme “rubber banding” whenever I’m near other players, and I sometimes get disconnected. There is no indication that any of these problems are originating from my end. There is no graphical lag, simply connection based lag and I have had zero problems until just a few days ago. I have a solid internet connection so I highly doubt that my side of the connection is the problem.
Additionally, the lag seems to be worse depending on the zone or when near other players. I’ve tested the game in unpopulated areas and there is zero lag, but when I go to Lion’s Arch, WvW, sPvP, or just about any dungeon, the lag worsens. Also, during one of my Twilight Arbor runs today, some of my group members were complaining about similar problems. Hopefully this is a problem that can be resolved soon as it prevents me and others from playing the vast majority of popular content.

This is my first time experiencing latency issues in GW2. It started today after I logged in – first time since the mini patch (not sure if they are related).
I admit it could be my ISP. Since I have never had lag in GW2 though it’s hard for me to determine the cause.
In game, my chat has a 1-2 second delay, and my abilities have a 5-15 second delay if they go off at all. Sometimes my abilities will just keep flashing like they are in queue to use but they are never used.
Players around me actually seem to be moving in real-time correctly. It’s almost as if certain things are loading appropriately and other things are lagging.
I will be checking up with ISP to see if that is the issue – just posting here in case others are having the same trouble.
Edit: I’m on Sea of Sorrows if that matters.

I live in South CA. (ISP: Charter)
Experiencing 30 sec loss lag
Checked all other website and games run good exept GW2.
GW2 has around 60~80% package lost.
Other website and games have ping around 20ms
We have narrowed down that this is a routing issue with the ISP
1000’s of players using 100’s of ISP’s all with the same problem with ONE game, and that’s the diagnosis. Genius.
The above posted Youtube video is a perfect example of what is happening.

Just want to chime in again and say yet another unplayable evening of WvW. This issue has been ludicrous this week.

Alright ! I fixed my lag by disabling “UPnP” (Universal Plug & Play) on my adsl router. I have no idea what it does exactly, but it somehow fixed everything. Now I’m playing without a second of lag
But don’t get your hopes up, it probably only works with my ISP (France Telecom/Orange).
It was worth a try
Upnp made no difference at all for me. In fact, unless there are other issues now with guild chat, the delays are worse than before.
I still experience some heavy lags on some very rare servers (mostly sPvP servers… but not all of them are lagging, so I just have to leave for another… however tPvP servers work nicely).
I also had lag on Rata Sum, for some reason. But nowhere else.
Same here, massive network lag. I am on Gandara server (EU). I know it’s not on my side because some maps lag, others don’t. Sometimes maps are fine but when I enter a dungeon, lag suddenly appears.
I don’t know what’s the problem, but they need to fix this.

Fix it? They probably won’t even read it. I’ve scanned through every page in this merged thread spanning more than 2 months and can’t find a single response of any sort from Anet.
