Lag is still unpredictable, seems to be based on instance.

Also, over the last week my zone load times have jumped from about 20 seconds to 3-5 MINUTES. last night I uninstalled the game are reinstalled it into my SSD, and the load times are still just as bad, so its a GW2 issue. The lag is even evident on the character selection screen, where it often takes a while for my toons to load.

Server: Sea of Sorrows
Net Provider: iPrimus ADSL2+
Location: Tasmania, Australia.

Whilst instance lag has always been an issue, this massive load times are new since October.

I live in Toronto. I use Rogers high speed.

Server is Jade Quarry.

I’ve never had a problem with any lag, even at launch Overflow, until this past Monday onwards. The only change I can attribute is that the client went down for the patch late Sunday night – not saying that’s the cause, just the only thing different.

Since Monday I have terrible lag spikes while playing in the afternoon and late nights. It began with the usual “Hit a key, no reply”, although I could run around. It was so bad tonight that upon logging in (which is fast and fine), I couldn’t delete an item from my Inventory. It didn’t respond, although I could walk around and swing my weapon.

Suddenly the item vanished from my inventory (had the window open) and three players appeared on my screen. Then they vanished, and my auto-attack icon was flashing, but nothing happened. Then everything “unplugged” for a moment before the characters appeared on my screen again and vanished. I did log into an event (the Centaur camp attack in Queensdale), which makes me wonder if it’s the botting/packet thing mentioned above.

I can play games online through Steam with no issues, as well as upload and download large files, stream HD video, generally browse as normal; I’m inclined to think the hiccup is on Guild Wars 2’s end.

I went on to pvp and noticed a lot of lag spikes. I had all my settings on low and had pretty good fps so it shouldn’t be my computer. However, I did recently flash my router with dd-wrt firmware so the cause might be on my end. (Ironically I flashed my router to stabilize my connection. The stock firmware kept dropping my connection.)

On a side note, does anyone use the leatrix latency fix? Does it work for GW2?

Had no issues at all until last few days since the last patch. Now I get variable input lag which has kind of killed the game. Tested my internet connection and no issues there and no problem with other on-line games either(The Secret World, Rift and WoW MOP)

It seems to vary by zone but I was playing with terrible lag today in a mid level zone that really seemed deserted (no-one at events etc) and had bad lag – a second or more delay between pressing a skill and it going off.

Frame rate is very high 80-100 constantly – no issues at all there

Playing on Desolation EU (well was but cant really play with input lag like this)

Any feedback on a fix would be good

Same problems here. The game has been unplayable for a couple of days. Having massive lagging and connection issues all over the map. NPCs missing, other players nowhere to be seen, actions having a delay up to minutes, being kicked out over and over again accompanied by error 7 and 14. Tried another server (originally Piken Square, now Seafarers Rest), same thing there.

Jade quarry, fireheart rise here also. MASSIVE massive lag, contant spiking where I can only swing my weapon once, then 5-10 seconds of lag, another swing, another lag, etc etc. I’ve never seen it this bad, not even in BWE.

1-2 seconds of latency on skills and use objects. But it isn’t consistent, sometimes a full fight will pass without issue, sometimes every second attack starts to lag.

One strange effect I have noticed is at times the skill animations will slow a crawl, but continue to move, so a full hammer swing will take 1-2 seconds to complete, then go back to normal speed.

The game is pretty much unplayable at level appropriate or above right now.

Its unplayable my latency wont go under 700ms. I do play other mmo’s no problems ( Rift 23ms , WOW 30ms, LOTRO 20ms ) .

After a week with no real issues, all of a sudden I’m getting constant drops again, just like before, regardless if I’m crafting, standing in one spot doing nothing, running amok, in combat, in an instance. Doesn’t matter. My broadband connection is working fine, I’ve set everything you said to set in help in regards to firewalls, ports, and even turning off my virus protection temporarily (what company in their right mind advises someone to turn off their virus protection to play an online game?!?!?). This is becoming unplayable. In Houston, TX, Tarnished Coast server. Doesn’t matter if it’s 2 in the afternoon or 1 AM. Same thing.

It’s become unplayable for me, standard 3mb/s broadband, 200 ping in LoL US servers, while playing in the UK.

Playing on the Underworld server, getting 15-20 sec chat delays, 10+ second delays on action usage including talking to the PvP browser, weapon swaps, etc. Considering I mostly play PvP, this is completely unplayable.

Currently unplayable for me for about 2 weeks.
On underworld server, every map is laggy for me, and I get kicked out all the time.
Live in Lincoln UK, rang internet provider and they said connection was fine, which it is with every other pc game and also xbox live and downloading mostly at 3mbs.
Tried everything mentioned in this thread, still nothing.

i usally play with high latency 130-200… but now pvp its unplayable! its over 300ms
my ISP sucks and i know it, but theres nothing i can do here, in my doomed country (greece)

Well lag makes the game not enjoyable for me at the moment due to disconnects in storyline quests (“Retribution” to be specific) . If I play such a quest and it takes me like half an hour or more to get to its end and finally a disconnect resets it (I tried to complete it twice) I am not really amused as you can imagine. But I realise this is a smaller issue if compared to others listed here. Just wanted you guys to know that this is kind of a design flaw as reseting a players progress is bad…

I have never had an issue with lag until recently. It may have started at around the time of the culling fix patch a few days ago but I have really started to notice it since the server patch last night around midnight pacific time. My FPS and internet connection are fine but while playing the game seems to stop responding and then catches up with itself in a rush. During the lag people running near me will just continue in a straight line until the game un-lags and then everyone warps around. If it lags during a fight actions sill not occur the button will just flash and then again when the game catches up everything just instantly spams.

This is very frustrating and I have done everything on my side to try and resolve whatever the issue may be.

since posting I have deleted the local.dat file in the GW2 folder under documents and the lag seems to have improved. Not sure if this has totally fixed he issue but so far so good.

Hi, since launch the game has been lagging out and disconnecting, the weird part is it only happens between 7:30 PM and 10 PM AEST I have contacted customer support about this but they are quite frankly useless, the got me to do the whole round table stuff they usually do, ping our servers that have pinging blocked! using 3 different ways (normal cmd ping/tracert. Their game advisor and a 3rd party program called ping plotter) after running all 3 of these and not showing any problems other than the pinging stopping half way through the 64.25 network they asked me to run the same things again, at which point i stopped bothering.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any issues resorting to this random lag. my ISP says everything is fine. As far as I can tell its not a routing issue because the tracert shows the same servers to connect to the game’s servers whenever I try, my virus protection isn’t blocking anything and i have even un installed it briefly to test if it was and it’s not my modem because i have tried 3 different types from 3 different companies to no avail.

Also the main zones i get affected in are Lions Arch and Fireheart Rise (back when cof was farmed resulting in a mass of people)

Hello, I live in Switzerland and I’m having the same issues. It started about 2 days ago. Every other game I play online plays absolutely fine on multiplayer (BF3, Planetside 2, Mechwarrion Online, CS, even Magicka plays perfectly)

Major lag – even when I’m not in an event – that is usually followed by disconnects. The disconnects are pretty frequent too. Please fix this ASAP. There’s only so many things in my house that I can break from raging at this networking issue. It is especially irritating when I log back on to find my character dead.

Edit: I’m on Gate of Madness and this lagging issue started at the beginning of October.

Since the last 2 weeks I’ve started lagging strangely.

In every area I play it’s the same problem : It takes 5 seconds to activate my skills, loot something, sometimes my character is teleported back, well, it’s clearly unplayable.

I live in Switzerland, I have a good connection, 20 mega, no wifi and GW2 is the only game in which I have connection problems…

Same for me in the UK. The game grinds to a halt a couple of times every minute for 2-5 seconds. Combat is becoming ridiculously difficult and frustrating with everything stopping and then eventually catching up when the latency evens itself out. Its impossible to react to anything or activate skills at the right time. It seems to have become worse over the past few weeks and is pretty much unplayable right now.

Not surprised to find this is happening to Europeans… just switched to an EU server that I used to play on (which was fine) and now the lag makes it unplayable. Maybe everyone should just migrate to the US servers until they fix it – even a bit of legitimate lag wouldn’t come close to how bad this is.

For the last two days, I’ve been getting frequent game lag and disconnections. Before the day before yesterday (10/12/2012), I noticed nothing like this – now, I get dropped fairly regularly even while running around Queensdale.

I’m on the Anvil Rock server, and I get lag & disconnections – I don’t think this is affecting just EU servers.

I don’t think it’s to do with being overburdened. I went from a ‘high’ to ‘medium’ pop server when this started, and there weren’t that many people in the one place or anything either. If it’s not all EU servers and happens on some US too, I guess maybe this is something that’s just screwing up on some but not others.

For the record, I was on Dragonbrand and it worked fine. I went to Piken Square and it’s terrible. So if anyone wants to transfer, I can say at least DB seems to work.

This is NOT a problem comming from any ISP. This is Guild Wars servers fault! Do not dare to push the fault away from you ANet and fix these kitten lags finally. It has been 3 weeks since I can not play in the evening. The only time I can play is before 5PM, but gues what, I am at my work, so it does not work that way.

This is officially THE MOST LAGGY GAME EVER.

its called Regional Congestion, and its a problem with the external links the isp’s use going down at times or having problems.

and just fyi, Asia has been having high latency through damaged links since the last disaster over there.

It is the first time in my whole life since I see lags getting close to 1 minute in an MMO game! GW2 is the only game that I play currently which suffers from any lag. I play SC2 and D3 ocasionally on the same link and everything is perfect.

Yes my ISP is Swisscom, and yes loads of people with Swisscom is having lag problems in GW2, but why only one game during “rush hours” gets unplayable? My finger points at game host, not ISP. Besides, we are in Europe, not Asia, we do not have tsunamis, tornados or what so ever that could potentially destroy our links.

I waited patiently 3 weeks but this has been too long now. I hope that ANet did not inherit strategy of “let’s wait untill people get fed up and quit, then the ones who remain will have better QoS”

Besides, we are in Europe, not Asia, we do not have tsunamis, tornados or what so ever that could potentially destroy our links.

Most links between Europe (Britain included) and America pass through East Asia.

Also, depending on if France stands between you and the server, there is always a large jump in latency when the routing goes through france.

Pardon me but it sounds little reasonable. Moreover people are switching from European server to American server and for some of them the lag is gone.

The thing with this lag is very wierd. The other day we were running an instance dungeon while chating on Mumble. My friends were telling me that I seemed like I was doing everything like i was not lagging, but on my screen I had masive lag of up to 2-3 minutes. I could browse AH, I could post on guild chat successfuly. The only thing was that the game gave no feedback for any of skill pressed.

Hey Everyone.

I know many of you are having lag and that sucks a lot, yes.
However you might be able to check if the problem happens to be
on your end, by using a tool such as Netalyzr

Additionally you can also check out this program which you can choose to
download. It’s very popular and quite safe. It may well just help a little bit for
some of you. It’s called Gamebooster
and through this program, you can turn off the many extra things that tend to
run in the background when you play. Therefore perhaps reducing lag, as well as
increasing FPS (Frames Per Second).

Other than those things, I can also recommend trying to switch to a Wired connection and not Wireless. Wireless can be quite unstable, for many reasons.
Anyhow I’d hope it helps some of you ^^.

Well the netalyzr isn’t meant to solve problems per say. Rather it’s meant
as a diagnostic tool, so that in the case something seems really wrong, you
could ask a professional and/or search it. And gamebooster is there to lessen
the problem. But oh well ^^. If I could, I’d fix you all up.

I’ve noticed that since the last patch, on Oct 11th to fix invisible players, actually made the game unplayable in high populated areas. Prior to the patch, I might notice players were slow to display, but I wouldn’t lag very much. I have a desktop tool that displays my internet bandwidth and prior to the patch I would see ranges from 2-5KB/s, 10KB tops. Since this update, there are times that it spikes upwards of 60KB/s or more with averages in the 40KBs. While some players might not have any issue with this, this data stream is not very stable and any packet loss will result in inconsistent play experiences. I would rubber band all over the place before ultimately getting the boot. Its not like a streaming media that can buffer the data a head of time. I’ve had 64 player FPS games use less bandwidth and lag far less.

I can’t imagine this is good for ArenaNet’s servers either having to transmit far more data than is necessary.

Still having massive lag issues & disconnnects, unplayable since friday afternoon. Seafarer’s Rest, playing from UK on BT. Can we have some acknowledgment from Anet that this issue is being resolved?
