Network Lag [Merged]
I too have terrible terrible lags, makes the game unplayable
Need any specific details about my network/computer specs that will help you solve the problem?
Since the last days (probalby since 2 days) i get massive lag spikes in crowded areas like WvW or yesterday in plains of ashford, it´s unplayable. lag spikes appear in short distances, character moves, no reaction on input, then suddenly fires off the skills i pressed 2 seconds ago.
Desolation, from Hamburg Germany.

It seems that the server i am on has nothing to do with the lag. I transferred from Riverside to Dzagonur, and come evening or weekend, the game is completely unplayable. Just now i was running through Malchors Leap, got 30+ sec lagspike, was instantly dead when the client catched up, nothing i could do.
The bottleneck causing these problems for a lot of us users seems to be located somewhere else. I have no problems in any other online application, in this specific instance i was in voice the whole time and had NO issues there at all.
Maybe disable repair costs and drastically reduce travel expenses while you are not able to fix the underlaying issue? It is no fun at all having to pay half a gold a day just because of lag that, considering all evidence, seems not even to be located on the users end.
/€: Just to put this into perspective and shut up all the guys accusing ISPs or user-end hardware: i am able to play Fallen Earth, a single shard MMO, hosted in north america, from europe, without any notable lag right now, while GW2 at the same time, despite being hosted on an european server, is outright UNPLAYABLE. There were at least 20 ppl around me in Fallen Earth as well, so the lower population argument doesn’t apply either. When i lagged out in GW2 i did not see a single person, anyway.
/€2: tried logging back into GW2, got disconnected within 2 minutes. Error code: 7:11:3:189:101. All other online applications continue to function as expected.

4 th day for me I am unable to play at evenings because of lag/lag spikes. I get delays of several seconds sometimes or even disconects. So will I just have to swallow it or do we have an ETA for a fix. Before I had them mostly weekends.
Riverside.
So much lag my client disconnects from time to time. Before i lag out, everything freezes for 1-2min.
First time since release for me that I lag. Country: Switzerland, Provider: Swisscom
Sometimes i get lucky and have no lag at all, but the last few days were outright unplayable (3-second to 3+ minute long lags).
Yesterday was fine with no lag, today unplayable (especially in instances). Getting booted 20+ minutes into a story-quest and having to start over just is frustrating.
Currently playing on Dzagonur (DE) from germany.
Router reboot does nothing. Tried pinging/tracerouting google.com for an hour while experiencing lag and not having a single packet drop with a ping of <15ms.
/edit: I am a Deutsche Telekom / T-Com customer.

It’s pretty much impossible to play PvE (open world or instances) in many areas on Elona’s Reach (EU). Lag spikes are up to several tens of seconds or even until disconnect, lots of rubberbanding, generally an un-fun experience. Tried mostly around 20:00 to 22:00 CEST. Pressing keys mostly just makes action icons flash, sometimes they don’t register at all.
(Germany, T-Com)
I had lags today everywhere. Started playing at 20:00 h local time (CET), ended 21:00 h. It was practically impossible to play. Skills I triggered were displayed two minutes after I pressed the key. Twice the client disconnected.
I tested other programs, they worked beautifully.
Edit: Flashing action icons, like Laurreth described, here too
Server: Desolation
My town: Kiel, Germany
My provider: T-Com
Broadband connection, 16 MBit/s
In the morning hours I have no lag at all and GW2 runs beautifully.
I have been experiencing terrible lag on the Gandara server for the past few days,
always around 9pm CEST. It starts around 8pm and ends at 10-11pm (if I am lucky).
I personally connect with the German service provider Dt. Telekom, however friends
from the UK, France and Romania have had the exact same experience during the
aforementioned time frame.
I have observed that it does not seem to be related to the area in which I am, but to
the number of players that are currently on the map. We lag even on almost empty
maps though.
Please have a look into this matter soon! Thank you for your time and consideration.
Aurora Glade here, Sitzerland/Swisscom tremendous lag all day … random between 5 sec, 1 min or total dc … It is the second time this happens.
I remember someone said GW1 have had 30 hours of downtime in total lifetime and good service …
Is this confirmed that same company handles GW2?
I am too experiencing extreme lag this evening. It worked fine for me late afternoon. Location is in Switzerland.
Lags as well. Switzerland and Swisscom Provider. Those with Swisscom please write in their forum as well: http://supportcommunity.swisscom.ch/t5/Diskussionen-zu-Swisscom/Lags-in-Onlinegame-Guildwars-2/m-p/121948
Same problem as many other people are having. This early afternoon the game was running perfectly, but towards evening (around 18:00) the game started to lag in a terrible way, couldn’t perform any action, huge rubber banding and disconnections.
Switzerland, Swisscom internet provider
Last issue i had was because of Swisscom problems and was fixed the day after … It is ok for a fix time, but why the hell this is happening at all for this single provider? Do they have pine or oak hardware?

I have lag issue too. I am on Devona’s Rest which is a medium pop server. I played all evening with a guildmate but he told me he did not have any lag issue on his computer. I am running a repair of the client but I don’t know what else to do. As far as i know i always had a good Internet connectivity. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
Experiencing 10-60 seconds lag spikes every 0:30-2:00 minutes whenever there are peak times.

I’ve been looking at packet captures for a short while, and there’s a definite difference in communication quality.
The zone directly south of Lion’s Arch seemed smooth for a change (had massive issues there the previous evenings); served by host 206.127.159.157
Changed back to Lion’s Arch, and the capture log turned colours. Lots of retransmissions and missed packets; served by host 206.127.159.231
Just had to abort a dungeon run of CM because of severe lag issues. lagging 20s behind, pretty much the worst lag I have ever encountered in an MMO (And I play EVE).
Playing from Hamburg, Germany on the Gunnar’s Hold server.
Provider: Telekom
The lag I’m recieving from areas of high traffic areas is appualing, I lag by at least 30 seconds….it only seems to be in areas of high amount of people though, and I never used to get this until WvW servrse changed :/
Whatever you guys are doing tonight, please knock it off. I am playing on Desolation server from Germany using Telekom. I get infrequent lags from time to time but tonight has been unplayable. Constant 30+ second lags and disconnects.
Every evening between ~7-10pm (UTC+1) the game gets unplayable due to lag. The rest of the day is fine, but in those few hours I get lag spikes from 5 seconds to a minute and frequent kicks with error 7:11:3:189:101.
On Elona Reach from Germany
Provider Telekom
Also Deutsche Telekom, on Gandara.
Can’t complete my story instance because I get kicked at some point, after 60-90s of latency.
Not so much lag as problem loggin in and frequent disconnects in soon after joining sPvP matches occurring today.
This evening is extremely laggy. Basically, I coudn’t play.
I am in Germany. I did a little test, I used my VPN (located in France), everything is smooth, no lag at all.
Germany → ArenaNet => laggy as hell
Germany → France → ArenaNet => Smooth without lag
So one more test is less laggy. There is a big problem in the routing path of the datas…
Right now it’s totally unplayable for me. No matter which map I go to (it works fine for around 1min) ,the Lag throws me out of the game entirely.

Massive lag while doing story instances, to the point of getting disconnected from server story basically not doable, lag not occurring in the world or only slight lag.

I can play normal everywhere exept when i go to wvw where i get huge delay and this is mostly at evenings like 8pm+ gmt+1. every other place works fine exept wvw… i got around 40 fps so its not graphic problem. its really unplayable so pls fix it.

This is exactly what i have experienced both today and yesterday. Played all the Day fine, When night time came got severe lag issues.
Its like the Server cant Handle to many people online at same time.
But the weird part is that some guild members that were playing with me werent getting lag at all.
Maybe the Problem is with Some ISP´s, But what puzzles me is that it was fine during the day. Were it be a Problem from the ISP, it should be laggy all the day.
I dont understand it… =/
Just a hour later evertything was fine again!
Leads me to think something goes terrible wrong during peek times.
Just dont know if it is on my side, server side or one of the Routers that Transfers the data around.
Game became completely unplayable about 40 min ago: 30-90 second delay between skill press and action. In Yak’s Bend, in the Brisban Wildlands. I’d not checked the actual latency numbers at the time, although the client closed on me several times with warnings. Just in the last few minutes it settled down to a moderate lag (about 1 sec).
I should add – it currently seems to be hovering around 240 ms latency.
Apparently I typed to soon – shortly after I posted I tried to get into combat and latency spiked to 6-8000 ms.

Cursed Shore on Piken Square is utterly unplayable for me. And it’s only Cursed Shore. I had logged out there a day or two ago, logged in today to try and explore/randomly kill things and I was having lag spikes off and on. I checked other games, with the other people in my house, it was certainly not on our end. No one was having issues with lag on any game, nor were any of my other games registering any latency issues.
So, on the suggestion of a guildmate, I went to some other zones, and they were perfectly fine. No lag, no random spikes that came near to disconnects. Went back to Cursed Shore, it was worse than before. I can’t even fight now, as my skills won’t fire off in any sort of reliable fashion, and with that mob density, it’s just suicidal to try.
Whatever this is, it’s preventing me from finally exploring CS, and I had been looking forward to finally doing that.
This issue is persisting. I hit 11,000 ms delays while in combat (which is essentially an interesting form of suicide). I am in NA and recently switched to an NA server (I was on an EU server with the majority of my guildmates), and I never saw this level of latency while using the Germany based servers.
I am really not certain if I should or should not raise a ticket on this. None of my other games are experiencing this level of lag, and for the last four weeks I have not had issues at all with GW2.
After 25th sept update i started getting lag , had no issues with it before that.
during events with lots of players around and while playing solo there is still lag.

After few evenings without lag, I am lagging pretty bad again today. EU – Ruins of Surmia.
Pretty much unplayable lag since combat is 10s behind my actual actions.

Me too, plus now my client loses connection to the server and I get thrown out frequently.
Gandara TA expl. When I relog it works well. By the time I rejoin my team I get horrible lagg, then I DC.
Ended CoF 10 min before going TA and I had absolutely no lagg. BS
WvWvW , in the evening/night this game is unplayable! I m in swiss near Lugano. It s really frustrating. Anet give me back my money!
Unplayable at eu peak times 7pm cet+. Lag spikes from 1sec to over 60sec, sometimes resulting in error code and disconnects.

same in swiss, this game in the evening is unplayable
Ummm…. o.O
So I tried for a while; restarting the game, reloging, restarting my comp… nothing worked. Then after I get DC’d again I tried to log in on my Thief (same account) and the lagg was gone. Played for about 15 min just to be sure. Then I tried my Guardian again and the lagg was gone.
I tried playing yesterday and I ran AC with some friends. Throughout the entire dungeon, I disconnected a total 21 times in the span of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The first few times were okay, but after each consecutive disconnect, it got more and more infuriating. The next day I was looking forward for some GW2 after work, but I came back and the lag is still there. I know you guys are busy with all the bots and exploits among other things, but I hope it’s fixed soon! I’m a huge fan of ArenaNet and I know your game team can handle this. Cheers.

I just have to say that it is completely unacceptable for us to experience this type of lag a month basically after release.
The lag becomes unplayable especially at 5pm. When you actually manage to play you get huge lag spikes or random disconnects, just this night i have had 9 one after another. The biggest i have had was 22 in one night.
I have tried my connection on all other “online” games and its fine.
Its not just me a lot of people on my server complain of the lag.
We get movement lag, skill lag, chat lag, npc lag, event lag, any type of lag you can think of happens here. I did send a message to Anet support and i got an automated message, which wasn’t helpful.
I have to say that i never had any lag from BWE1 – Headstart , after headstart its like it just went down hill.
I played GW1 into the ground and i just feel that as a long time fan i have been let down by Anet since its always guessing game whether your gonna be able to play it properly or not that day. And GW2 would be a great game if this was gone and my friend and i would finally get to do dungeons without lagging, and random disconnects!
Guild Wars 2 for me and many players has become Lag Wars 2, they cant hide behind the excuse that its just been released now. Also im so tired of this happening and Anet just need to actually say we are addressing it.
Just Fix the Lag and Random Disconnects and you will have a lot of happy players, since like i said this lag started to occur just after you “officially released it”, BWE1-Headstart were fine.
Sorry, forgot to post server.

Lagging even now, I am getting a lil bit tired of this. EU – Ruins of Surmia. Delay about 5-10s.
Throwing my hat into the ring as well. It’s surprising how much lag I get in dungeons (it’s probably related to the time I do dungeons instead of actually being in a dungeon).
This is the fastest ISP I’ve ever had, so it’s not like I’m on a crappy connection. I can download the game itself in about an hour.
Thankfully Torchlight 2 is out, but I’d prefer some GW2. It’s just way too frustrating to play in extreme lag. I log in every day, then rage quit after 10 minutes of beating the hell out of my keyboard trying to get skills to work.
