Performance issues after upgrading my PC
I can’t speak to the processor, but the graphics card might have been a pretty good downgrade. The ATI 5750 is a solid gaming/performance graphics card. The GT 640 is a high end media card that isn’t really meant for high performance graphics.
You’d want to get an nVidia card that ends with something higher than “50” to get their gaming cards. Like a 660 or 670 or higher, in the 500 series cards, you’d want a 560 or 570 or higher. Anything under 50 will play games, but not well.

I see. Well, that just proves how much of an expert I am at computer specs.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Since I’m in time with the purchase, do you think that trading the GeForce card in for a Radeon HD 7750 would be a good idea?

Your other problem is that you stuck with AMD. You shoulda went to Intel if you want good performance from your cpu for GW2.
As for the 7750 …well… its deffinatly better than a 640 ..but its still below a 550ti in overall benchmarks ..so it stil isnt a ‘proper’ gaming GPU. Ofcourse iv always used Nvidia so som1 with more experiance with AMD cards might know more.
use this website and go to ‘high end video card chart’ to check where roughly a certain gpu is in the performance list.

IMO you want a card that score 3,300 or more on that list.

Anything above 3,300 ‘should’ be able to run the game with pritty high detail levels.
2,700 score is probably the lowest you would want to go if you want good fps on any detail level.

Tbh. most ppl have problem with Phenoms x4/x6 etc. I never saw anyone complaining on New FX bulldozer versions of AMD CPU’s and thier are very good.
New fx-4100 can o’c to 4,6 with no cooling change with 4 cores which is better then > I3-3220 ( ivy ) or i3-3100/3120 ( sandy ) which on the matter can’t oc almost at all.
So Taking phenom was totaly bad idea, old generation CPU for 2012 year game.
To graphic card. 7750 is crap it’s worse then 7770 which u can get for fair price OC’d.
Tho if i’d be you and have cash for upgrade ( as my pc is so kitten old – using laptop for now from ASUS ) i’d go with :
GTX 560Ti
GTX 560
GTX 650 ti
GTX 660
From Ati’s You can try grab old 68** series ( they are cheap if someone resells they are at pair with GTX 460 mentioned below )
Ati : 7770 ( which isn’t best at this point i’d say go find Reseller of GTX 460/480 or try to grab one of best GTX 480 Lightnin version )
HD 7850/7870 should do the work they are at pair with GTX 560/ti // 660 ( tho GF goes about 6-10 fps better in some cases )
of’c if u got the buget – theres no reason to go for serious 680/690 untill you got some super powerfull eyes that see diff from 60-70 fps to 140+.
Im plannin to get my pc renewed and im aiming for
FX 4100/ FX 8150 oc’ed to 4,6-4,9 ghz with GTX 660 on board, tho may take a while

Well, my only option other than doing nothing right now is to trade the GT 640 card for the Radeon 7750. Can’t do anything about the processor itself by now.
Thanks for the input, all of you. It’s been a big help.
Also SolarNova You have to understand that some ppl don’t want to change whole platform ( Intel for 1155/1156 ) or AMD.
AMD got the + for making AM2 MB’s compat with new am3 CPU’s in most cases which means you can push more cash into GPU/CPU instead of taking for same price kitten intel CPU with bad GPU.
Also Ppl go for AMD because of price, it’s almost 30-45% cheaper if u compare new AMD CPU’s to intel ones when it comes to cores/Speed. ofcourse Intel CPU will be faster in single thread work etc by 10-15% but seriously if someone doesn’t have big pocket sometimes spending 120$ for CPU is for that person better then payin 250-300$ to gain that 10-15% in fps.
Try to get 7770 Oc’d it’s better

To be fair, I had a certain limit of price I had to search under. In that limit these two cards appeared to be the best, but I chose poorly when it comes down to gaming, by the looks.
A budget is always good to have.
But in your case i suspect your budget will only be enough for a general ‘house PC’ ..its likely not enough to get into a ‘gaming pc’.
By which i mean a house pc can be used for movies ..browsing …word processing etc…even really old gaming.
But a Gaming PC is ..well it is what it is :P and so is the price :P
GL to ya ..hope your able to play to be honest. but atm GW2 is being a real B*tch performance wise ..even on high end systems.

Also try to lower graphics, most of options you have on high/medium aren’t needed to take pleasure fro the game. Remember mmo is about it’s pve/pvp experience about gameplay with other ppl it’s not mainly about graphics.
First of all Turn reflections off totaly, it’s GPU waste cuz u lose around 30-40% fps on that.
also turn off best texture filtering, get shadows to low, post-processing to low/medium, you don’t need it that high, set enviroment to medium/ low cause theres not much of different untill u turn your shader to High/ultra. animation on medium, no need to go max cause on max you see better movement of hair styles only tbh. and anti-aliasing off – imagine how bad u hurt your GPU by that when there are 40+ ppl in sight.
The bigest problem for you Is Your Requirement to see almost MAX details of game for such poor PC.
Basically the same happened to me too.
Was overclocking my old 555 to 3.7 Ghz and had bearable FPS but constant 85%-95% load on both cores.
Then I just switched out the 555 for a 965 quadcore and the FPS collapsed while the cores are basically idling and the graphics card (HD7750) is usually pretty bored too.
So upgrading your GFX card won´t halp one bit.
This has nothing to do with Phenoms or the other Intel fanboy arguments, it´s bad client programing. Plain and simple.
This performance bug can hit everybody. Do you other people actually read this board?
If you want your FPS back use the old 550(actually faster than your new 1045T) and overclock it or go to another game until ANet has fixed this buggy code.
As for the 7750, although I love mine and how cool & quiet she is, I´d recommend the 7770 too. Though be prepared that she won´t be THAT much faster than your old 5750 either.
See hwcompare.com
But if your wallet and your power supply can take it, best get yourself the GTX660ti.
