[SELFSOLVED] problem with 1-2 files remaining
I got the same problem too, I think they actually know what the problem is since this ever happen years ago.(Which cause me to uninstall and leave this game, i just came back for few months.)
But they can’t say what is it to users, which i won’t try to find out why.
Now i just try it from time to time without hurry because i already try everything.Spending too much time and energy upon this isn’t worth at all.

SOLVED
By using proxy to change my location, The dns now point me to another asset server in the set of 151, instead of 14.0.58.2 that I keep getting.
Maybe I was only able to get to that asset server that keep me from successfully patching?
_____________________________________________________________edit: add 6. 7.
How? Could you tell me detail pls.
I tried -assetsrv <ip> in GW2 shortcut but it can’t connect

I didn’t add -assetsrv or anything cuz it doesn’t work for me, just use free vpn service like CyberGhost or something, see if the location for your auto-acquired asset server changed or not (ping assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com with direct connect and with proxy, see if the IP you get is different)
Modifying the hosts file or using -assetsrv changes which CDN server you use. Using a VPN can do the same thing, however it also encrypts your connection. By using encryption, you prevent your ISP from modifying or returning a cached response. That is your problem.
If you would like to further test this, use -assetsrv through the VPN using the original IP.

Sounds like the ISPs default DNS is not functioning properly in some way. Using a proxy or alternate DNS server seems to resolve the issue.
This is not a GW server issue but an issue with the DNS your ISP uses as it’s default. This is likely due to some bandwidth throttling routing changes at the ISP (all the rage with ISPs these days).
Editing your Host file is just asking for other DNS issues to pop up later….not advised.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
I do believe it’s the ISP default DNS problem, yes. I did try changing the DNS to google’s public one with no avail tho, not sure if that helps.
I was ABLE to download the patch tho, with full speed even, (not unable to connect problem) but the patcher seems to find no end to that last file.

I’ve already done all this and I’m still stuck at 1 file left — and it’s already downloaded 14GB already. Still not fixed.
Are you getting different ip resolved from the proxy?

If my connection was being throttled, I wouldn’t be downloading at 100Mb/s through the launcher to complete this 1 file — changed back to default ISP DNS servers. Same issue. Changed back to Google’s DNS servers.. same issue. Changed to Open DNS servers.. same issue. This is a GW issue.

If it were a GuildWars issue than it would effect everyone I’m not having this issue and never have had an issue with this game so fare everyone of my in game freinds and guildies have got the patch without an issue. So no this is no effecting the majority of players is so how come there are so many in game. Keep trying I’m sure a solution will come soon . The reason that I never have any issues may be do to the fact that I only run the game and TS on my gaming system I don’t have a ton of junk software running in the background.

If you are still having problems, try adding this to your GW2 Shortcut Target:
-assetsrv 62.154.232.187:80
If that doesn’t work, try
-assetsrv 151.249.90.138:80
You can do this by right clicking on your GW2 Shortcut and adding the above text to your Target field. For example your target should look like this:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 62.154.232.187:80
Let me know if that works

Each of these asset servers (above) are hosted by a different CDN, so swapping might help ^like it did above. Keep letting me know if this solved your problem or not.
That being said, after you patch, you are probably going to want to remove that from your target line. Our assets are normally dynamically served across multiple CDNs, and keeping it stuck at one might impact future updating.
If this fixes the problem for multiple people, then please let me know which CDN worked for you and what your current ISP (not IP) and Location (just city/country) is. Thanks!

This is a problem that’s happened to me multiple times. Previously, either flushing my DNS or switching my DNS to Google’s public DNS fixed the problem. No such luck with the latest patch. However, using:
-assetsrv 62.154.232.187:80
worked. I’m in Minneapolis, US, with Comcast.
lol what a joke. Purchase GW2 because they don’t require a subscription. But now, when you want to play any longer, they force you off by making the updates hose themselves. I left it “updating” for a day. 10GB later, still going. tried another server, start all over again. WTF is the 10GB of data I just wasted my bandwidth on? Idiot developers.

If you are getting connection error either:
You didn’t modify the target correctly and left out the port or didnt have proper spacing
or
You can’t actually connect to the asset servers – Which could be any number of problems. Try pinging them and let me know what happens (command ling ping 62.154.232.187)

Still don’t have any Luck ! with all those IP
I currently reinstall and update all again (not set AssetServer ). Let hope I will pass last very very large file or I have to says goodbye to GW2. till it have better patcher that can save download progress or just spilt very large file to smaller file
If have any suggestion tell me, I will try.
Thank
till it have better patcher that can save download progress or just spilt very large file to smaller file
The progress shows the number of files you have remaining rather than the total amount of files, which is around 300k. This causes your progress to appear to reset every time you close and open the launcher, but it doesn’t actually reset.
If the above “-assetsrv” IPs do not work for you, try using a VPN. Others have recommended CyberGhost VPN or HotSpot shield, which are free, or you can try a free trial of WTFast.
I try it all but not work for me

Your implication that this is some sort of intentional bait and switch to reduce users is some serious tin-foil hat speculation on your part. My GW2.DAT file is over 20GB, so it appears that whatever was wrong was attempting to re-download the entire DAT file (or some very large portion of it).
You do understand that only a very small portion of the playing community is having these issues, right? Yes, they need to address whatever is causing some of their CDNs to not operate properly for some players, but it’s not a grand conspiracy by Anet to steal you money.
Everyone that is still having the issues needs to try and change their DNS server to some 3rd party hosted ones (like GOOGLE) to remove the possibility that it is a DNS routing issue.

I want to get back into GW2 after a fairly long break. I have moved to a different country since the last time I played and I can’t seem to even download the game. When I download the gw2setup.exe and run it, all I get is an endless loop of "Connection error(s) detected. Retrying.
I’ve disabled windows firewall, uninstalled all my anti virus software and had my ISP investigate the whole day, constantly exchanging phone calls to no avail.
When I tried downloading it on my flatmate’s laptop, it worked fine however, so the problem is most likely with my own. I’ve ran out of ideas though. I think I tried everything in the OP, still no success. When I tracert any of the download servers it seems to be alright as well..
When I tried downloading it on my flatmate’s laptop, it worked fine however, so the problem is most likely with my own.
I’m assuming the laptop was connected to the same network/ISP as your computer?
Ensure that your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file does not contain any added entries.
Try resetting your network adapter. Under the control panel, search for adapter and open network connections/adapters. Locate the one being used as your primary connection to the internet, right click it and select diagnose/repair. Run through the process.
Open the start menu and search for cmd.exe. Right click it and run as administrator. In the command prompt, enter the following commands and reboot afterwards:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
You may also want to look into updating your network adapter’s drivers.
Open the start menu and search for cmd.exe. Right click it and run as administrator. In the command prompt, enter the following commands and reboot afterwards:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
Yes, we’re on the same network, of course
My network drivers should be up to date too. I’ve tried everything except the part I quoted. I’ll try that later I think, though I’m not having high hopes..
EDIT:
This
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
Actually did fix the problem! Thanks Healix! Much love <3
