Guild Wars 2 so far I thought was the only game being affected by EE. Not sure if it’s related but i’ve had terrible issues with connectivity via skype, im constantly dropping calls and lagging which has never happened before. I also just played a game of Smite as Guild Wars 2 was becoming difficult to play with such high ping and even Smite had issues for me, constant lag and rubberbanding. Also just took a speed test, my ping was 250 (normally 11), download was 6mb/s instead of the normal 20mb/s and my upload was 1mb/s rather than the normal 10mb/s I get. Not sure if im having larger issues here but getting through to EE is always a pain for me.
Add me to the list.
Fire up at 6am GMT and no issues. Anything beyond 5pm GMT and it dies like a dead thing. Symptoms – skills not firing, lag on talking and interacting to NPC’s to foes not spawning and being able to run around a map with no PoI’s, Waypoints etc. registering. Log-in OK but when entering a map it will fail at initiation showing the Map progression items (PoI, WP, Hearts) and then hang till it time out.
Could this be a that Telia network hub issue again? It pops up every other month and cause disruptions only to GW2 for some reason. I noticed many mention EE/UK, but I have been experiencing massive spike lags and warping from Comhem/Sweden as well in the past 3-4 days.
I have the same problem, it´s unplayable. I´m in Sweden with Telia as ISP.
As far as I was aware, EE are also joined with France Telecom and Telia.. so that might answer that question there. But seriously, Download HotSpotShield and you can play. Just.
Yes, only Guild Wars, EE, Midlands. Exactly as OP described.
If any of you are comfortable with regedit can you tell me what your mtu is for the device you are using to connect to the internet.
It can be found under for windows 7:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\[Adapter ID]]
It would also be intresting to know which os you run.
Ty
If you arnt comfortable DO NOT touch regedit please.

Add me to the list. EE Broadband in Somerset, UK. Perfect connection last week, went to Essen Spiele over the weekend, came back and now the game is unplayable.
After reading through this thread I tried a couple of speed tests from different sites and my ping to them is over 200ms every time. EE have changed something this weekend thats turned it all to crap.
If you have twitter harass them on @EE, they look at it often and they have always responded to my complaints.
Hi all
So i have done more tests.
So if we look at the first 2 trace logs i posted:
http://www.kusakudesign.co.uk/Files/GW2PacketLog.htm
http://www.kusakudesign.co.uk/Files/GW2PacketLogLowPing.htm
You can see there is an issue with ping and packets, however with help from a network expert we have decided that this isn’t significant enough to cause these problems.
The dataloss in question being at its worst at 3%.
Also it turns out that the real problem which i am 90% sure i have found now was actually exaggerating the dropped files issue.
So I have spent several hours today with my network expert analysing all of the communication data a summary of the problem can be found at:
http://www.kusakudesign.co.uk/Files/GuildWars2ServerPingTCPTest.htm
And we ran a test, what we did is we ran a repeating ping to the same server gw2 was talking to.
As you can see the ping request gets a response quickly, from this we can assume that the connection to the guild wars servers is actually very good, this ping continues to be stable even when the tcp messages from the server get heavily delayed.
What appears to be happening is that the responses from the server are becoming very slow which causes the guild was application to get confused and communication starts to break up, this causes excessive lag, an inability to cast skills or do anything server side, and ultimately losing connection.
This suggests that the problem is with the GW2 server and not with EE in my case.
It would be interesting to see if anyone else could find similar results.
As always all of my information is there if people want to add information or help prove/disprove my theory.
I have contacted anet with this information so i shall see what they say.
thx
kusaku
Hi Guys, I am on the same boat. EE broadband in London. It’s frustrating.

nice work i can’t wait for anets reply.
This is becoming increasingly frustrating. Earlier this evening everything was fine, now it takes minutes to load into a map, and when I do I have zero ping, I can move but not activate any skills at all.
Whether it’s an issue with GW2, EE, or both, I just hope a solution emerges soon – before HoT launches, certainly. I’m actually half tempted to switch providers, if I could be certain the switchover would be in place before next Friday …
As much as it pains me to say it, I found some forum posts from around a year ago that detailed a very similar problem and it seems it took 3 months for a solution >_< hopefully won’t be so bad this time. I’m thankful I still have a fair amount of data left on my 4g so I can play HoT even if the problem hasn’t been resolved by then. And of course there is the solution biznitchash is suggesting if all else fails.

Spot on. I found exactly the same about 2 years back and posed similar traces into the thread that led me here ‘Connection error 7:11:3:191:101 [merged]’.
Example of the loss with my Guardian in Diessa:

Actually managed to log into LA last night where I was 1 of about 20 people there. Everything ran perfectly. Switched to Bloodtide, Queensdale, Citadel etc. and boom. All traces showing exactly the same against each of the respective servers.
In game ping on Options screen was showing well over 200 and oddly on Bloodtide 0 where it remained frozen till I gave up.
This is starting to worry me. I might actually have to find something worthwhile to do with my evenings instead
Happy to provide logs for any map to assist if support need them.
cheers and nice work!
Hi all, i got a reply from anet which i shall attach bellow:
Thanks for getting back to us with this info. I see what you meant by the longer response times. It appears as though you may be experiencing a disconnect from your client to our server that’s timing out. The Error code is a generic “connection lost” type of error. Generally these are resolved by waiting out some time, then logging back in. it’s something of a soft-reset to connect to the game server.
I made sure to check, and we aren’t currently experiencing any server-related issues. There have been reports regarding packet loss between .5% and 5% on average with Telia service. I would suggest that you try going through our Knowledge Base and try all of your home network troubleshooting steps, then try speaking with your ISP about the Telia.net packet loss.
I shall go back to poking EE and see what the say but they havnt been very helpful so far.
In fact there users have given me more information than EE……
p.s. it would still be interesting to know what people’s mtu/os is
Hi, I have a follow up message from anet and EE:
Here’s EE’s message:
With the logs that you have provided and the tests we have run we do not think there is any issue with your internet connection, the packet loss is under the required %. Also seeing that you are only having issues at specific times of day with a specific game the issue can only be caused by load on their servers.
Here’s Anet’s follow up message:
If the issue always occurs at the same hour every day, the issue can be on your ISP side.
Please contact your ISP and if the issue persists, please contact us again to continue investigating this issue.
Which is pretty much what always happens when online games play silly buggers. Neither side will admit to the problem and really Anet should be kicking someones kitten to get it fixed.
Quick update. Logged on at 18:00 GMT and everything running like a dream. All toons in all maps launched pretty much instantly and were 100% responsive. Me = Happy Camper!
Naively started mapping Gendarran Fields, hoping a miracle had taken place, until bang on 18:30 – and I do mean bang on to the second – my 1st skill stopped responding. Ping shot up from 52 to over 4000. Disconnected – Game unplayable. No toon on any map will load.
Immediate thought – somewhere in the chain is throttling connections and traffic shaping. I’m thinking that unfortunately GW2’s TCP stream either registers as a torrent or something else that an ISP is blocking/shaping VERY badly.
Even forcing port 443 or 80 over the past days makes no difference to this.
Going to delve deeper.
In response to MTU – have been doing some thinking on this. Will come back with numbers, test results and thoughts in a bit.
ciow,
I’m currently forcing the game to run on port 443
I have the same issue – I was on the phone just this moment for 2 and half hours.
I’m wanting to cancel my service as I have other issues with my connection.
I went back and forth between the cancellation department and Tech Support, no one actually knew what that were talking about.
I was however cited the terms and conditions about tracking management.
I countered with, no where in the terms and conditions does it imply that traffic management will slow down games and or make them unplayable, infact it stats the opposite.
They hung up on me -
So good luck to all of you <3
EDIT – How on earth do I contact them by email – I can’t log into the site at the moment, as apparently it’s having issues – ofc it is >_> – and all links point me to a call centre, and well, they’re morons.
(edited by Ben Delat.8415)
So EE have called me again, it’s clear they still don’t have any idea about what the problem is since he asked me what time the street lights go on in my area as that might be affecting my internet. I had to reiterate that my internet speed was fine, it was just one connection that was fubar’d sigh.
The gist of the phonecall was, he needs to get a list of landline numbers that are experiencing this problem. I tried to explain that convincing random strangers from the internet to give me their home phone number would come across as a bit strange and unlikely to happen, and I suggested that each person ring up individually to give that information, but he seemed to think that wouldn’t work nearly as well and it would be best if he could have all the numbers at once, to give to the BT engineers so they can run some tests.
How do you feel about this guys? I’m happy to pass along any landline numbers if you give them to me, he said he needs 10-12 to escalate the problem. He’s gonna call back tomorrow at 7.15 BST, so let me know!
I’ve sent you a PM with my landline number – nobody in my house uses the landline anymore. Actually not even sure if we have a phone plugged in lol.
Sent landline number!
OK
ADSL Router MTU = 1458 – Max that can be set- on PPPoA – Not 100% happy with this
PC Win 8.1 MTU = 1500 using – ‘netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces’
Blatant mismatch!
Dropped MTU to 1458 – NO difference. Game totally Borked!
Dropped MTU to 1430 (Which I had to do for Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds) on Win7 machine when playing with US players many moons ago….. NO difference. Game totally Borked!
Fired up a Linux Server on a Hyper-visor completely independent to my Gaming rig (other than shared ADSL connection) and recorded the following:

So from what I’m currently seeing I’m hemorrhaging packet loss to :
Which I believe is :
IP address 213.1.115.205
Address type IPv4
ISP BT Public Internet Service
Timezone Europe/London (UTC+1)
Local time 20:51:44
Country United Kingdom
State / Region Greater London
City London
Coordinates 51.5112, -0.119824
Will record more in the morning and post…..
ciow,
MTU 1500 is the international standard for tcp.
Kitten Kong.6384, I am presuming this is a trace log to the various gw’s servers?
If so the BT server will not always respond to trace pings as it has better things to do and I would take that packet loss with a pinch of salt.
If you are feeling techy you can try this:
Start up a program like wireshark and trace your internet device.
While it is doing this start up gw’s and do /ip to find out which server you have.
Then start a ping using cmd to this server using:
ping serverip -w 1000 -t
then play the game till it crash’s
Then you should get a comparison of ping to tcp traffic.
it should end up something like this:

Thx

Me? techy? oh no! All this analysis, tracing, firing up my Linux servers etc. has been completely powered by Rainbow Farts. Saw it all once in a magazine – simplez init!
Its cause you were using linux servers and packet traces that I presumed you might be interested in this trick I meant no offence ^^
Either way all the information we can gather is good information ^^
(edited by Kusaku.9056)
No worries – we all good
from what i’ve noticed it starts around 6:30pm and still going at the moment maybe till 12?
It actually seems to be getting worse with time.
The intervals that I have recorded issues with the the tcp timings are as follows all times are in GMT.
7.00am-10.00 am, 12.00 noon-1.30pm, 6.00pm-1.00am
7.00pm-11.30pm is when the connection is at its worst and most people can’t even load a character.
The common trend with these times is that they are the Times in which you expect players to be at there highest.
My theory is that EE users are on the longest route to the game servers. So when we get to the servers we are the last to be served. This longer serve time push’s the response out of the tcp timing and causes connection issues.
So as traffic to the game servers increase we get pushed further back.
I am a programmer and not a network analyst so I could be wrong but it’s the best theory I have at the moment.
I am genuinely confused about whether people are seeing my posts or not.
As I have now posted 3 times that I have found a way to combat the peak time disconnecting, yes you still have 2-400 ping, but AT MOST (And I timed it) It was a 1.3second delay. That’s not much at all considering.
I cannot simplify this anymore, you can continue to contact EE and Anet but honestly, neither side will fix it untill they see fit to do so. I have given a solution and it is a ridiculously easy solution, its a 3 minute install on your computer AND you only have to turn it on when peak time starts, and you can go right back into playing the game.
I just want to say thanks to the you guys who are trying to sort this out and doing the investigation work Anet and EE should be doing. To be honest its all gibberish to me.
And Biznit we see you but we want a fix, not a band-aid.

Same issues here.. but with one difference. I run on a dedicated business line. My lag delays make it obvious my issue is always on the outbound packets, IE., always client to server issue.
It usually lasts for 5 to 30 seconds and then whatever is “buffering” the packets dumps them through.
Of course.. I’m usually in WVW and 30 seconds is a lifetime in combat, so; I’ve learned to go hide and port when this happens since otherwise, I blow my skills whereever I happen to be when it decides to dump.
They sorta need to look into this. I’m assuming they’re stealing resources for all of the HoT pre release and the issue will go away (for the most part) after release.
8 more days and counting until I can play reliably (I hope)……

Personally I have downloaded HotspotShield and will resort to using it if no actual fix is found, though I consider having to play with up to 400 ping when previously I could expect 40-60 an absolute last resort.
Do appreciate you posting the suggestion however.
Meanwhile, I’ve contacted Anet support and I’ll try to get through to someone at EE again tomorrow.
The only reason I have fervently suggested HotSpotShield is because you guys won’t GET a fix. Hell I was paying for 35Mb optic fibre with EE for 3 months and was only getting 1.1Mb, took them 3 months to fix THAT. Having to work with another company to fix an issue? That’s not EE’s prerogative as much as they like to try, the engineers will just keep asking for more to escalate it. But as I said, I’m STILL experiencing the troubles so I switch to HSS to play. If you guys actually do get Anet and EE to fix this, Nice one!
Btw I got HotSpot Shield and it works to a degree. I was able to run Fractals last night. I’m still going to keep the pressure on Anet and EE until its sorted though

Hi
We have seen your post and I am thrilled for those of you that this helps however it does not help in all cases and it does not actually solve the problem hence me continuing to try and find another solution.
We are very very grateful for your input however and I’m sorry that we have given you the impression otherwise.
Thx
Kusaku
@biznit – we’ve all seen your posts, I even replied to you directly, but 400ms is personally not playable for me, and I kind of resent your attitude of “you should just give up, no one will help you”. You can stop flailing your arms around yelling “NOTICE ME” now.
I currently have 5 numbers to give to the EE guy when he calls later on, he did say 10-12 was the number he’d need to escalate the problem, so if anyone else has that information (even if you don’t actually use your landline), please do send me a direct message, it might be the kick up the butt they need.
@Kiwi – Sent Landline
Thanks all for the numbers, they’ve been passed on to EE and the engineers are gonna run some tests (or something like that). Calling me back on Monday to update around 5pm.
Hi, its been a week now.
I still cannot play gw2 but all other games run flawlessly.
I sort of wanted to prepare for the incoming expansion, please at least look into this or give us a sign?
Given similar problems that have happened in the past (from my research), this could take months to resolve. It might be time to start looking into alternatives for the expansion. You could tether your phone (if you have a 4g connection, enough data, and no extra charges to do so) which is what I’m doing. You could go to a parent’s/friend’s house for launch evening (bear in mind its going live at 8am UK time so you will have most of the day to play if you don’t have work). You could use biznit’s program he suggested earlier and play with 400 ping, or you could invest in a dongle and play that way. It’s a shame, but I guess we just gotta live with it.
In the meantime, I will keep you updated on what EE say, though I recommend as many people as possible call them to report the problem (make sure to be as specific as possible so they don’t think its just a problem with your computer or your specific router) so they have more reason to escalate it.
Great. I already bought HoT a couple of weeks ago and now I can’t even play the game. I hope I can get a refund. Until this problem is fixed I might as well uninstall the game.
I know this is a Gw2 forum, but has anyone else noticed any issues on other programs? I noticed Skype isn’t working too well any more either and the issues coincide with the issues related to Guild Wars
Exact same problem – EE up in Yorkshire.
Not exactly nice to know I’m not the only one, but still – this thread has been helpful.

Possibly. I’m putting Skype down to someone just ignoring me though. I can dream that it’s this same problem, but I doubt it.
I’ve had horrendous issues with Skype during that period as well.
Skype is terrible for me too – been receiving messages up to 30 minutes after they were sent, and this just plain old IM one on one – it’s laughable
Hopping on the bandwagon with issues with EE. Tried to contact them and they are just shrugging the problem off and not bothering to fix it, despite it obviously being a problem on their end. I then asked to speak to a supervisor/manager, then they just hung up on me.
I’m switching to BT (cant choose Virgin Media because of where I live), but that wont be complete till the 29th.

Yup exactly the same, trying to get anything through to EE is like talking to a brick wall. I’d love to switch broadband but sadly my landline is tied to EE so I’m not sure if i’d have to wait for that or not. Sad to hear the change couldn’t be made sooner but good to know in advance as I was also seriously considering switching to BT, this is getting ridiculous from EE.
