Hey guys.

So today’s update, he called and said they were still “monitoring” the line. He also said he checked all the landline numbers I gave him and none of them had called to report a problem, to which I replied that most people were either switching to another ISP or couldn’t be bothered to get through their call centre because most were so unhelpful. I got quite angry with him and said I felt like they weren’t taking the problem seriously because only 2 people had reported it, to which he basically said yeah that’s right, if only 2 people call in then only 1 person will work on the problem, if 15 people call in the team will be much bigger.

He suggested trying to get you guys to call in but I said to be honest no one can be bothered, is there a direct line I can give them so they can contact you and you actually believe that this is a widespread problem. He’s given me an email address, it seems fairly generic but I urge anyone still interested in getting this problem solved to email customer-service@ee.co.uk – he said make sure to mention your landline number, the time you are experiencing the problems and the game you’re experiencing them with, i.e. Guild Wars 2.

Hopefully if we do that, they’ll start taking it seriously.

P.S. Hype for tomorrow!:D

what? he said none of us called? i spent like 5 hours every day for a week with ee.
I will try the email you gave me but it seems pretty generic i realy dont think it will help.

Thx
Kusaku

I have emailed the problem through also, thanks.

Update from me – I’ve sent the emails and got generic responses and been told to keep dealing with the technical support phone line. Just had my daily hour long phone call with technical support at EE. They are still struggling to understand the problem. They did all the diagnostics which showed no problems with my line, they sent out an engineer who found no problems on my end or with the line. The next thing apparently is to try and get BT to get my fibre broadband from 20mb (which it has always been) to 40mb. They are going to call me back when they have achieved this apparently. I have no confidence this will resolve the Guild Wars 2 issue but I have a long time to go on my contract so I am worried about heavy cancellation fees if I switch. I guess I will just keep at them till they have exhausted everything they can do and then get them to admit the problem is their fault so I can switch and be able to play Guild Wars 2 between 6 and 12 on another ISP.

Just my 2 cents here.

I’m in Israel and I’m also getting the lag at approx. 3:30 pm my time (GMT+3), until it becomes totally unplayable. Pings start to avg. 800 then 2000 and by 4000ms I log out. It started after BW3. [At least I can play in the mornings (avg. ping is about 100ms when there is no lag)]

I believe my ISP also routes through Telia and I had the lag problems a few months back. Right now it’s completely unplayable and I also purchased the HoT ultimate.
I really hope it doesn’t take 3 months to solve this.
I will be calling my ISP tomorrow to let them know about this problem, though I doubt it will matter.

Edit: -clientport 80 worked for me. So, not sure what that means for you guys.

Why do they insist on checking lines and getting BT engineers involved? How much is that costing them?

I’m guessing everybody here has done a speed/ping test and all stats are good, and more than likely all other games work fine and download speeds are normal, so it’s nothing to do with our individual Broadband lines? Isn’t there just some setting they can tweak somewhere, or at least speak to each other (EE/ArenaNet) about this problem? If any of them are taking any notice, that is.

I know nothing about how this all works, but it seems to be a problem with EE and GW2 servers ‘speaking’ to each other at certain times of the day.

My game has lasted longer than usual today, but I’ve just now hit ‘The Wall’ and the game is unplayable. Yet again.

South west UK here. I’ve called EE and they’ve told me there is nothing wrong with my line, but I literally cannot even get past the character selection anymore. On the extremely rare times I do, I’m stuck behind infinite loading screens, game crashes, extreme lag/rubberbanding and skill delays. This all starts from about 5pm/6pm onwards. It is unplayable and I’m at my wits end. Everything else is fine. No lag from any other game I play or the internet.

Same here….UK and EE. This is killing the game for me.
Weirdly the chat seems to work instantly – just the play that is is the issue. If I do get into a map and get connected I can stay in the instance pretty well..then I map and everything goes wrong again.Like everyone else, I can play other games or watch Netflix etc with no issues.

Hi guys, i’ve been testing different connections today and have come across a bit of a discovery, especially for us EE users.

If you run the GW2 diagnostic on your normal connection without vpn etc check the ip list immediately prior to telia based ip’s. If it is 62.157.249.202 then this is the ip causing the issue.

I have compared logs from the GW2 diagnostic without and with VPN and all connections that successfully allow me to play the game do not cross 62.157.249.202.

I hope this helps. I will be contacting EE to see if the routing to the GW2 servers can be moved since they have to direct their traffic somewhere. I am hoping for a better path. Until then, VPN it is!

Hello there.
Would like to say thanks for clearing some things about my questions that im trying to solve with the support. It seems,if i decode rightly this ip sended/lost thingy.I had no real problem with GW2 until the HoT expansion, then i was getting connection errors. Checked out the diagnostic thing in the gw2 exe, also used the ncsoft tool, got the same results. Most of the packs that were sended was lost at a talia ip.
So im guessing probably have the same problem like you guys,
Was getting some grey hairs in the last few days since i upgraded my account from f2p to HoT and was all hyped about finally able to start some new chars and do some stuff that i couldnt in the f2p system aaaaaand nothing, cant even get to the log in screen….

Same problem for me, using EE in the midlands. I thought it was just a server problem with f2p and the expansion hitting combined with peak time traffic, but it seems a lot of people are doing just fine (unless they’re reducing server load by blocking a particular ip, which would be a creative solution I suppose).

I’ve been having this issue too. I’m with EE (South) and the game seizes up when ever I try to enter an instance, the lag is immense. A one or two minute delay between pressing an action and it actually happening. Sometimes the issue can be resolved in the open world for me by restarting the game, but even that’kitten-or-miss.

Can’t do the last story step alone ‘cause it’s buggy, can’t do it in a group because it’s laggy. Argh.

Hi Longstar (and everyone else in the same boat),
I have also been told by GW support that IP address 213.1.118.13 is my issue and to contact my ISP.
Has anyone had any success in talking to EE?
I fear we are all faced with spending hours on the phone to EE, trying to be put through to someone who might have a half a clue what we are going on about, with all of us trying to try to tell them exactly the same thing, but with varying levels of understanding and success.
I am so down about this. All my friends are having a wonderful time and I can hardly log on and in all honesty I can’t see me (with absolutely no technical idea what I am talking about) being able to persuade EE to do anything useful about it.
Since GW support know there is a problem with that IP address and EE – shouldn’t they be able to talk to EE for us – and help with all the technical bits?

Nope, EE refuse to believe that anything is wrong regardless how many times I’ve tried to explain it on the phone. Even on their own forums the so called ‘experts’ deny a problem even exists and that it must be either us or or GW2. I’ve yet to see any Anet staff in this thread so I don’t even know if they are aware of the problem let alone working towards a solution. The very first post was almost 15 days ago and more and more people are reporting the same issue.
I’m at the end of my tether. Every evening for the past 4 days I’ve had to sit out and listen to my guildmates on skype have fun with all the new content

it is no surprise that when i looked at several sites regarding broadband services, EE is the most complained about. to those who are switching from EE to a different provider, then good. hopefully this will leave such a massive sting on EE’s decision to ignore the problem that they will take action on it for those who can’t leave.

i might suggest trying that, i lose the stable ping on area change but this might help, give it a try.

Was excited (not really the right word, but you know what I mean!) to see others with the same issues. EE West Midlands here – and the service fine otherwise…

My hat goes off to those of you calling up and investigating – you have a lot more patience/technical knowledge/actual motivation (circle any or all as appropriate!) than I and a lot of people who, like me, read this thread but don’t make the leap to log in and post will probably, like me, feel a little better about the whole thing. So on behalf of all those people, like me – thank you!

Reading that back it looks very big-headed of me to speak on behalf of people I’ve never met and assume that they are like me – but luckily the people I refer to can never log-in to point this out as they would then no longer be the people I refer to so I’M IN THE CLEAR.

So what finally got me on? E-mailing is much more my speed and I saw Kiwifruit ask for people to call/e-mail in. I wanted to know if EE gave you a reference or ticket number for this? As you can see I can ramble on somewhat (part of the reason I avoid writing anything) but give me a reference number and I will e-mail the hell out of them!

Other question was regarding the HotSpot Sheild thing – I saw it worked for a lot of people but then someone else was going on about programs like that getting accounts suspended? I’m eager to give it a go but am also terrified of losing my account. Can anyone shed some light on this method for people like me who lack the confidence to try it?

I do not personally know how much attention anet pay to internet traffic.
It is possible to deduce with 99% certainty if a vpn client or similar such product like hotspotshield is in use. However If anet bother looking at tcp communication this closely and ban people for it, i personally doubt they do.
However I hold no responsibility if anyone uses these tools based on this information.

I would personally talk to a anet gm through there tickets to see if you can get there ok.

Still lagging for me too, trying to do ‘Town from the sky’ is a nightmare, the lag at the end is insane. Mission started out fine with a few lag spike here and there but…

When all the mordrem show up it just got worse and worse. Actions update for a second after every 1-2 minutes and then disconnects me when I try and talk to Rytlock, its beyond annoying!

If its any help, I’m also with EE and also on an ADSL line. Everything else seems to be fine although had a bit of trouble earlier getting onto the wiki and also the forums of GW2 too but it was just a delay of about 10 seconds for that.

I’ve sent EE a support ticket, but the more people who do so the more likely something will be done as it seems to be a problem with their traffic routing. Either that or they’re mistaking GW2 data transfer as P2P and throttling it during prime time.

Would a VPN be a workaround in the mean time?

Not sure I got the right version anyway, should a be a free one knocking about somewhere. Also not sure I’m the best person to get recommendations from as I am still not entirely confident I know what VPN even stands for.

Just came here to post that I’d received a very similar reply from them and that they’ll keep in contact with me about it. Not much point since the general gist of it was the same as this.

Seeing as I previously told them that my cat was stuck in the toaster and they told me to open the ports to fix it, I’ve found their customer service quite… lacking. I was also given the option of a £60 engineer visit to perform the basic tests that I’ve already done myself, but seeing that the reply this time was otherwise sensible, I decided I wouldn’t tell them what they could do with their £60 call out cost.
