Grievance [GVNC] – Our drunken WvW is the kitten
Devona’s Rest – Forever Outnumbered & Kittened upon by Anet
Can we get someone at ANET to look at this problem, or at least stop patching every 2 seconds. Freaking rediculous
Virginia, Verizon customer reporting in…
same issue.
Yea. Comcast in Chicago. Same issue. Workaround using VPN, but still…
Happens same time each day even though comcast is working perfectly otherwise. Sound like a conspiracy.
SAME again tonight geeez
Well at least the holiday Steam sale as started, can play other new games until patched…
Looks like those log in rewards are not as simple as we thought…
Hey Chicago peeps, while we wait for this download to finish (eta Christmas eve) we should all meet up. Assuming you’re all female and over 18.
Seriously though, I have no idea what’s to blame or whose fault this is, but it would be nice if one of the moderators could chime in at some point.
WE KNOW YOU’RE READING THIS.
EDIT: Everything else about my internet is working just fine. My porn video watching continues unhampered. This may very well be a comcast issue, with some sort of nerd speak IP bullkitten, but since everyone here is reporting ONLY having a problem with downloading these patches, a simple a comment from the moderators here THAT WE KNOW ARE READING THIS would be nice. 3 nights in a row. This is frustrating.

I have been pretty patient, along with the rest of the folks here on this thread. I tried the solutions that worked for some to no avail. We need an end to this issue.
Latest patch today stops on the last file at 26 Mb. Had almost the same problem about a month ago. Why do they keep putting bad patches up. Are they trying to stop people playing the game? Don’t they check them? Please do something!
OMG third day in a row… and still no response from a moderator on here… like wtf.
This is so irritating and how you gonna spring a third patch on us kick us all off in 35 minutes and then we’re all stuck out of the game downloading at 0kb/s
Pinellas County Florida. Verizon Fios. Checking in with this issue. Everything else on my net works fine.
Maryland. Verizon. All other internets working fine.
bumps this as it’s happening here to me..only gw2 is failing to update.
Been an hour of restarting to try to patch, starts and stalls at 0kbps, nothing works.
Been having this problem the last 3 days also, on comcast, win 7, changed my network from public to home patch right through like normal. Buddy just tried it on his comp same set up and worked for him, thinking it has something to do with security settings.
I’m going to chime in on the ’can’t update the client’ train. Last time I managed to bully on through. This patch? No luck.
Same problem since Tuesday patch. If I close and restart the client a lot it sometimes starts downloading at several hundred KB/sec before stopping.
AT&T U-Verse
Chicago area
I have this issue as well, and Anet still yet to respond.
I’m also Midwest, connecting through AT&T
(edited by infantrydiv.1620)
I’m in Sydney Australia on Optusnet in case they think it is just a local At&T problem
According to a tumblr post somewhere around like 14K people cannot play because it keeps getting stuck at 0/kbs when its nearly done downloading. apparently they are all getting into a group to all make a mass spam of 14k bug reports and forum posts. I hope they don’t do that. It seems they are only hours away from doing it.
My issue is downloading at only <10kbs. It bounces from that down to zero. Oddly enough, I managed to update my Sims 4 at 200kbs at the same time . . .
I finally got it to go through at a real speed by closing and re-opening the client if it was at 30KB/sec or below. Took 20-30 tries before I got a good connection.
I’ve had this twice. Once took me out for all of Halloween. Another today basically. Fix for me was just a blanket nuke of all the temp downloaded files….
Go to
C:\Users\<YourWindowsUsername>\AppData\Local
and
C:\Users\<YourWindowsUsername>AppData\Roaming
In both of those locations should be a ‘Guild Wars 2’ folder. That looks to be where it caches some data, including where it locally downloads temp files awaiting to be patched. It DOES though clear out your username / pass if you save that so make sure you have that somewhere.
Delete those folders completely. Re-open the patcher. It downloaded happily once I’d done that this time, but I suspect that during halloween, I had to do multiple runs at it (or I missed a folder somewhere. I’d give even money either way).
Usual cavets apply. I’m not Anet Staff. These are windows system folders and doing the wrong thing in there could have disastrous consequences of anything from dandruff to nuclear war. Don’t come crying to me if you wake up in a post-apocalypse wasteland. Even doing it right may have effects beyond what I’ve noticed thus far as well.
Im from Sydney on Optus and having the same problem. Downloads to 26mbs at about 1mb/s and then just stops, all with just 1 file remaining. Have tried the things everyone has posted but none of it has worked. Please fix.
Never mind, i fixed it by force closing it with task manager while it was stalling and then launched it again.
Yeah it just started working for me now. They must have fixed it.
I’m still having this issue! :/
Hey all,
We’re really glad to hear that things are better for some of you, but note that some players are continuing to have issues. (So sorry about that! I agree it’s interesting that the situation seems rather localized.)
Here’s what our team would greatly appreciate, if you care to do this. Sending logs will help the team nail down the cause of this problem. They then can fix it (if it’s within our control) or give you some info on how you might be able to address it.
Anyone who is currently experiencing the problem should run their gw2.exe as follows:
1. Once with the -log option. (the output will be in their c:/Users/<username>/AppData/Roaming/Guild Wars 2/gw2.log)
2. Another run with the -diag option.
(If you don’t know how to do either of these things, post here and we’ll get you some more detailed instructions.)
Once you have the logs, please send them to us as an attachment in an e-mail to support@guildwars2.com with the subject line “Patch download stuck at 0 kbps” (using this specific subject line will make sure your logs go to the right people in a timely manner). Please note: In most circumstances we are not able to accept attachments sent to this email address, but in this case an exception is being made so that we can get the data we need to fix this ASAP.
Thank you for any help you can give us with this!

I seem to have the same problem where the client tries to download the new patch.
It starts at 1 or 2 MB and then goes to 0/kb and freezes.
Also i don’t know how to run gw2.exe in “-log or -diag option”
Uh oh. Sorry, folks. If you read my previous post (which I will edit) I need to correct what I said about how to submit a ticket.
Do not use the interface system. Instead, please send an e-mail to Support@GuildWars2.com and attach your logs to that e-mail. Please read my previous post for the right info. Thanks!

Ok, let me be sure I give you the exact details. Back as soon as I have the whole thing properly outlined.
Log files sent.
Thank you, Eric!
Log files sent.
Here are some instructions on getting the log file to us:
To send us the diag file:
Replace -log with -diag in the above steps. When you’ve run that process, a UI window will pop up while the diagnostics are running. And the end of the run, you can open it up by clicking “View Results” and then cut-and-paste the diagnostic log in an email directly. It isn’t too big so you can cut it straight into the e-mail or make a text file, if you prefer, and attach it with the log file.
Restore your shortcut:
Remember to remove either the -log or -diag parameter from the shortcut by right-clicking on the shortcut icon and selecting ‘Properties’.
I’ve sent logs as well, west coast U-Verse
Has anyone tried to update while in Safe Mode with Networking? I have to do so with Steam games otherwise it goes up and down like a yo-yo.
Here are some instructions on getting the log file to us:
- Make sure you’ve created a shortcut to your Gw2.exe client.
- Open the shortcut properties (by right-clicking the icon and selecting ‘Properties’)
- In the target line, type -log so that your target looks something like this: C:\Games\Gw2\gw2.exe -log
- Hit ‘Ok,’ then run the client. Since you are blocked when trying to download the last files, let the client run for about ten minutes, then close the client.
- Open your preferred e-mail program and start an e-mail to Support@GuildWars2.com with the subject line “Patch download stuck at 0 kbps”
- Now, in your prepared e-mail, click “Attach file” and type “%APPDATA%\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.log" and your e-mail program should find the file and attach it to your mail.
- Send the email to us

Ok but what if this happens (In the picture). I get this error since 12 hours ago. I got abruptly disconnected in sPvP and then my client tried to reboot itself and that happens. I don’t think doing the log analystics statistics stuff will help, if it’s stuck before it even gets to the patch downloading. I have to use ctrl+alt+del to close GW2.exe, because clicking on the X mark doesn’t even work. And the task manager says it’s running, it’s not unresponsive.
Did a server get knocked down by an old tree that was overweighed with heavy snow somewhere and now some of us can’t connect? (this actually happens frequently where I live, lots of big trees around and if there’s heavy snow, they always crack and fall)
Btw I sent a ticket to support, but still no answer, I guess you guys are overcrowded with these same reports at the moment.
PS: In the 2 years I been playing, never had this problem before. Ever.
Ok, i did send an email with -log and -diag file in it.
Let’s hope that everything went well.
Just bought the digital download. I’m using AT&T internet Chicago area. Couldn’t even get the download client to download the game, so none of the previously mentioned hints for logging would help out since the install path didn’t exist. gw2setup.exe would hang shortly after starting. I previously tried the 8.8.8.8 DNS, dnsflush, etc. Tried two different computers as well. Its VERY surprising this has been going on for 4-5 days (or more) with no resolution, especially disturbing when you purchase a digital download and cannot even install the game!!! Downloaded and installed Hotspot shield as suggested by someone and that worked around the issue, thanks!!!
We want to thank those of you who took the time to create the logs. They have been routed to our programmers for review, and the details within the logs should be very helpful in determining how to correct this issue or what information to share with players to assist them, if the issue ends up being outside our control.
Please continue to send those in using the steps outlined in this post. And thank you again.
I just heard back from our Game Ops Team, and thanks to all the reports that players sent, they were able to check the pathpings. The records revealed that players submitting reports each have been experiencing packet loss either at the first hop with the ISP or in a couple of cases within their own network.
So those of you having this issue should follow up with your ISP to get them to investigate this issue for you.
If there are specific questions, Brad may be able to answer, but given the broadness of the issue you should note this: If you’re in the midwest and are having the “stuck at 0kb /s” issue, talk to your ISP.
If you’re in the midwest and are having the “stuck at 0kb /s” issue, talk to your ISP.
And they are just going to shrug and say “if you’re not experiencing this issue with literally any other service, site, or stream, then it’s probably on Anet’s end.”
AT&T isn’t going to be able to do anything about a third party data routing center.
This is happening to me right now. Kind of frustrating.
Tried what was suggested “-log” and “-diag” and it is saying it is an invalid command. Never had this problem before.

I also am having this issue. While my wife is streaming netflix on the smart tv in the same room. And while literally every other online service in our house is working perfectly fine. Including other games that are online only.
As mentioned before, ISP tech support will laugh and say it’s not us. Especially if it is only effecting one particular connection/game.

Yes another patch, and yet another night I can’t play GW2. Thanks anet. Can you please stop patching. At least the steam winter sale is going on.
Finger pointing is what the IT field does best. This will be resolved in about 3 months time if we are lucky.
Adding my name to the list, Dayton Ohio here, Uverse
Adding my name to the list, Genesee County Michigan, Comcast/Xfinity
ANET are you seriously trying to tell us that comcast, verizon, and AT&T are all having the same “issue” on their end? I think you need to investigate further, this is maddening and losing you a lot of revenue.
