Start up Client stuck at 0kb /s
^ this man speaks the truth…. TThis only happens with GW2 patches. I pull decent downloads everywhere else. I am stuck at 5167 KB on the installer atm. after force quiting using the task manager to get a decent connection but i have a feeling it is going to stall here…. Sigh. They broke something around the halloween patch and now it is FUBAR!

If you are an at&t uverse customer using the 2wire modem. Open your router gateway i.e. open 192.168.1.254 in your browser address bar. Under settings then under firewall change the settings to allow all applications (DMZplus mode). Hit save. Open the GW2 client. You should then be able to download the client and patch. I tried to manually enter the ports for gw2 and that didn’t want to work, but this worked and is what I did last patch where I had same issue.
Nope afet making it 5157 KB – I got the dreaded Connection errors detected retrying (that never retries) Looks like another force close from task manager is in order.

Opening a DMZ on your PC is probably not the best option, make sure you close that back up.

Why would we all have Kitteny times and download speeds with the pre patch download, but get 100 kb/s plus when downloading the actual update? This makes no sense. What is different between those IPs, or ports ANET?

LOL i hit 1 MB/s on this download, that never happens what is wrong with the pre patch download?

Just on a hunch I tried completing the download again. Magically, no connection issue, and I’m certain ISP’s did nothing within about hour of Anet posting.
Wonder how many borked updates it will take to get it straight.

Probably 1-2 tops but those will likely just end up breaking something else.
Let my computer sit for an hour and tried again. It is installing now. Definitely wasn’t my AT&T.
Tested it with today’s patch (Dec 22/2014). The wife and I run identical systems, both using AVG as a Security suite and both connected to the web via the same modem. She started downloading the patch in normal mode and was at 25% before I started my download. I booted to safe mode and downloaded the patch in it’s entirety and she was still at 57% completion.
On both machines the downloader would stall out at 0kbs, and then take off again but the stall outs were more common on her machine and lasted for a longer period of time then they did on my machine. On my machine the times I spent at 0kbs were almost not noticeable and seemed to occur while the program wrote one file. (the number of files left would increment down by 1 at that point then the downloader would begin moving again.)
I highly suspect, as this has been getting worse over the last few months, that the downloader or the program is no longer playing nicey nicey with anti-virus/security suites.
Checking in with GameOps about this. Thank you for the info you’ve provided. I hope that a team member will be able to give you some additional info on this soon.

Hi,
Whoever is having this problem, can you please run this built in Windows utility from a command prompt (cmd.exe):
> pathping assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
It will take a few minutes to run. Copy and paste the resulting output into an email to support@guildwars2.com with subject, “Patch download stuck at 0 kbps.”
Thanks. I hope we can get this figured out shortly.
@qualm like a bomb
Yea you are going to want to close up all the ports after the patch. That fix that I described was only for the patch and are supposed to close them up after the patch is done. I know this patch works, because I was having this issue on the last two patches. And each time after I opened all the ports I patched no problem on the first try. So yes people who are still having trouble try this and if successful, close your ports.
Also, I’d like to work with someone who regularly sees this patching problem. Please private message me on the forum and lets see if we can figure this out.
We have some information for various players. To avoid making any of this personally-identifiable, I’ll use initials only. Please see the notes below from GameOps:
DF: Packet loss at your modem. Probably want to try rebooting modem and/or follow up with your ISP.
EO: Packet loss in the first pathping, packet loss at your modem (it looks like) in the second one. Reboot the modem and follow up with ISP.
JS: Brad from GameOps writes: “This one is strange, it looks like ICMP is disabled past his router.
We don’t have enough info on this one unfortunately. I can follow up with them on this one if needed.”
So if you’re still having difficulty, send another e-mail using the same address and subject line.
LB: Packet loss between modem and Comcast gateway. Reboot the modem and follow up with ISP.
MF: Terrible packet loss (32%!) between their router and modem. Reboot both.
MM: No network info, can’t say.
PN: Packet loss between router and modem most likely.
I hope this information is helpful. If you need to follow up, you can send a follow-up in the e-mail you sent to the team previously.

I searched google for hours and hours, tried about a dozen different workarounds.
Finally fixed it.
Downloaded this out of date client, which still works, instead of their new, broken one. You can find it here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Beta/Getting_Started
If this doesn’t fix it for you, you’re done for, cuz it’s the only thing that worked for me.
I also use comcast and am from michigan area. I think this might mean that the problem does not lie with ISP but with bad installer.
Hope this helped you all,
Regards<

Tried the beta launcher, seems to not be working for me.
Recently tried to come back to GW2 after a while for some good ol’ fun, only to find client giving me guff and honestly, it took forever just to find this forum post.
Same problem occurred with my friend’s laptop when they tried coming back with me.
Hoping this gets fixed soon… cause otherwise I’ll literally miss the entirety of Wintersday
If you can kindly send reports as instructed earlier in this thread, our devs are working on this (even on the holidays) and I know they’d like to help as many people as possible. Alternately, if you wish to submit a CS Ticket, you’re welcome to do that instead.
We’re very, very sorry for those inconvenienced by this issue. Even while you can see from my earlier post that the issues seem to be outside our system, our team is analyzing each to see if there’s a way for us to help.

Make sure you search your hard drive (ctl+f in explorer) for “GW2” and delete everything that comes up.
Then downoload and install beta client.
Worked for me, nothing else did
Downloaded and installed and now playing with no problems
(edited by majpayne.2638)
I’ve sent the information from the c-prompt utility in an image, hopefully that’s enough.
I went back and tried majpayne’s idea and deleted everything related to GW2 first, then downloaded the beta client. It’s not completed, but I was able to login and it is downloading still with no 0 out of the download speed, so we’ll see what happens. Will probably edit the results after it completes, or if it does, rather.
Edit: Topped out at about 13% and hit 0 again. So apparently it didn’t work…

Lord Xaldin, I think I found your ticket with the attachment. Based on the pathping Comcast has a hop at 68.86.90.113 that looks busted, it’s at least not passing ICMP.
If the patcher is having troubles getting past that hop to our CDN you’ll be unable to successfully patch. You should escalate this to Comcast and give them the screenshot you gave us.
I just had this issue pop up as well. I went through the steps of clearing out my GW2 files and attempting to redownload them to no luck. I’m sending over a screencap to the admins to possibly see to it.
Michigan, Comcast service. Adding my name.

Your neighborhood necrofriend.
I activated a Heroic Edition key my friend sent me today and all was well until I tried the setup.
Downloaded GW2Setup.exe and ran it.
Started at 15kbs and quickly ran down to 0kbs.
This was about an hour and a half ago.
Since then I have been googling and searching these forums for the right answr.
Flushing DNS, renewing it, already had my DNS as Google.
Tried Beta Client, it was more steady, but a slower speed and an inevitable decline.
EDIT: I just retried it and I got to 11k kb and the client restarted and started downloading at a much higher speed.
No clue, but it’s downloading something else now.
I’ll keep updated on my issue.
EDIT 2: Made it to installation. I should be good from here, unless the actual install messes up too.

Retried the download for the beta client. is working now and can play. Will edit if anything happens, but seems fine now for some reason.
MN with Comcast here — tested download speeds.. very fast. Not being throttled.. able to download and install games from Steam very fast within minutes with large GB file sizes… GW2 launcher only getting from 0kb to 50kbs… and sometimes just stops at 0kb. Already using Google DNS servers — no restrictions on firewall etc.
I just got the heroic edition as a digital download from amazon (today).
Like everyone here, I was having issues getting past the initial download. The client would boot up, get up to about 32 kB/s, then crash to 0 and hold.
I tried a bunch of the proposed solutions from this thread.
…and then bit the bullet and tried one involving 3rd party software.
Hotspot Shield is running on my comp and the download is in progress. The troubled download maxed out at 3500+ kB/s. I’m at the client download and as of this moment I’m sitting at about 3MB/s with about 280k files to go. I know I’ve got a bit of a wait ahead of me, but this seems to have worked. I’ll report back if it works all the way through.
TL;DR
Download Hotspot shield and run it just before you install. You will be happy.
It worked – no crashes, no errors.
Also having this issue plus a host of other connection problems on Comcast near the Chicago area – Northwest Indiana to be exact. I think there’s a choke point wherever the traffic comes from the backbone to Comcast because something similar happened with Netflix traffikittenil they paid Comcast last year and the only way I can temporarily solve both is by using a VPN.
VPN, unfortunately, doesn’t solve my “Download failed!” problem.
Suffering from this issue on two different machines in Dublin, Ireland. Trying to download the game again after a long break and the installer doesnt even get to the stage where you’re asked for your login details. Starts off at about 50kbps and soon drops to zero and stays there. Any suggestions?
Been searching the internet trying a multitude of fixes nothing works. Starts around 30kbs then creeps down to zero then stops, then it says that there is an error connecting to the network please help.
I’m seeing how old this thread is and I’m getting the problem right now, like what’s up with that? I’d think they’d fix a 4 month old problem by now
Same thing here, get about 230kb/s and then it drops to 0.
Tried every solution posted and no success.
try typing netsh winsock reset in CMD, worked for me.
Still having this issue. My first way of resolving it was modifying C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts with 174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com which worked temporarily. The issue has since returned and I have no clue what to do. After a bit of thinking I attempted to tether into my phone’s connection which seemed to fix my issue but at 8326KB it finally slowed down to 0kb. This is extremely frustrating and it seems like there is little to know support on the subject.

I had the same Issue today and found a Solution for it by the following Steps:
1. creating a Shortcut of the .exe on my Desktop with the Parameters
authsrv 206.127.159.107 -clientport 80
2. completely deinstall my Eset NOD32 Antivirus Program
(I guess this will also work for other Antivirusprograms like Avira or Norton)
3. use “netsh winsock reset” in my cmd(run it with Administrator Rights)
4. Restart the Computer and run the GW2 Patcher
For now i downloaded over 4GB at stable 2MB/s
I hope this helps somebody out.

OH no one told you? it’s 400 gems to keep your launcher working.
Well, after two years, the problem persists, I can not finalize the update patch. I wanted to play again, but I already gave up.
Maybe no one will see this, but I was having the same problem – stuck at 0 KB/sec
I connected to my VPN and then the download ran smoothly after that.
Dunno why but it works.
Hope this helps!
Hey!
IM using Mudfish VPN but still doesn’t work for me. Which VPN do you use and where are you located?
