Guild Wars 2

When I click play on the login screen it immediately goes to black screen while I still hear music in the background. The only way to exit is to Ctrl-Alt-Del and quit from task manager. Before doing so I notice it says the program is not responding like it has frozen up.

I tried the method that was stickied at the top of the forums, the problem is that my AA settings were already set to application controlled. My drivers are up to date and I tried the alternative method of installing the profiles.

Lastly, this is the first time this game has been installed on this computer. So I haven’t bothered trying to reinstall as I just installed it fresh about 30 minutes ago.

Here are my computer specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Intel Core i5-3570k 3.4GHz
12GB Ram
AMD Radeon HD 6870

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I’m running dual monitors as well.

Tried disabling second monitor and it didn’t solve the problem.

I found the issue! Turns out a program I had called MSI Afterburner was conflicting with the game. I use that program to monitor in-game FPS as well as monitor things like heat on the computer. Well, I won’t be using that anytime soon, as now GW2 works just fine for me (at least I can see the screen now)!

I’m attaching additional files (Guild Wars 2 Test and ArenaNet.log) to hopefully expedite resolving this issue.

I’ve had the same problem beginning in April and nothing I do has resolved the issue. Now im patiently waiting for a patch.

I thought it was just me initially when I changed my SLI 280 cards for a Titan GTX card but it appears that many others have had this issue with different hardware since the April patch and no 1 fix helps everyone effected.

Well that should be high priority for ArenaNet then considering that’s completely game-breaking for those of us having the issue considering we literally cannot play the game.

Here is my Game Advisor test doc if a tech wants to try and solve this problem.

Just completed uninstalled and reinstalled my graphics drivers as well as made sure my DirectX was fully updated, still no success. Waiting for update on my support ticket.

Firewall software is known to cause “blackscreen” issues in a whole plethora of games. Ive had this very issue with every single game I had when using Zone Alarm. Basically any firewall/AV package that has an onscreen pop up to confirm/deny access can and does cause blackscreen events like these.

Best bet is whatever your firewall software, ensure that you manually set the GW2 exe to have full web access.

The only firewall I have is Windows firewall and I’ve made sure that Guild Wars exe has full access. Unfortunately that did not solve the problem either.

Clean boot I a good idea and may help you isolate the problem.

Just tried a clean boot and still didn’t work. I also tried to force it to run in windowed mode (added -windowed command line) and it gives me a grey screen and then completely crashes on me, generating this error report:
