Status on the issue for those still affected. (basically, skip to page 7)
This had resolved issues in the past with the old TP, but it appears it helps resolve some of the issues with the new TP/launcher and crashing as well.
If you are still experiencing the issues with your launcher/patcher and CoherentUI_Host.exe with crashing:
Disable any proxy settings + Check/Enable Auto-Detect Settings
NOTE
If you were previously using the “-nopatchui -email -pw” shortcut command line argument to enter the game, you will need to remove that work around for any other resolutions to be viable.
Immediately upon patching I find a new “bin” folder is created in my GW2 installation folder.
Within this folder are several dlls and a new executable.
(Shouldn’t these files be within the dat file or in the gw2-cache folder and not inside the installation folder?)
Immediately upon patching this executable is requesting firewall permission.
The patch is continuing to download properly despite my not permitting this new executable to connect to the net.
I’ve looked it up and see it is an HTML5-based User Interface system.
Why is this new file demanding access to the net while I am trying to patch?
Why should this UI system require access to the net, let alone when I am not in-game?
(edited by StinVec.3621)
Thanks for this report. We’re aware of the issue and our Tech Support Team will respond as soon as possible with some work-arounds for this issue.
GW2 was using Awesomium as a web browser interface (for the launcher and trading post). It’s now using CoherentUI. They are both external applications, hence why they come with DLLs. Awesomium used to be hidden away in the %temp% folder, which was created every time you started the game and more recently, every time you opened the trading post. CoherentUI appears to be only created once and imo, putting it in the bin folder is better and simpler.
There is a bug with CoherentUI however, at least for some people. For me, it’s attempting to access a webserver on my ISP’s network (within the local area), which doesn’t exist. As a result, it crashes and freezes the UI. By blocking access however, I can bypass this issue.
These files are related to the updates to the Trading Post and Gem Store. You should permit the files to access the internet or you will not be able to access the Trading Post and Gem Store.
Hope that clarifies the issue for you.
I am so glad to hear that we won’t be dealing with Awesomium any longer as it was quite far from being awesome with the constant cache clears and other dozen issues players have had to deal with.
Thanks for the responses, Gaile, Healix and Regina. I’m glad to know more about the situation regarding this new file.

Ravenear – That is a crash message, and thank you for sharing those details. Tech Support will make some recommendations for that very soon.
The initial question also asked why one’s system needed to access the ’Net while patching, and Regina provided information on that above.

Edit: Just to clarify since you’re redirecting all issues with Coherent UI to this thread: I don’t care about it accessing the internet even when I’m logged out, I just want the game I’ve been playing for 2+ years now to work. Please don’t call this thread: “Answered” if you’re redirecting hundreds of people who can’t play the game they paid for to this thread.

I can’t start GW2 due to Coherent UI crash as well. Any solutions soon?
This is the error I get; and it happens instantly. I don’t have a chance to repair or anything.
Hey guys,
If you are having this issue and crashing after the update we recommend you try the following troubleshooting steps to try to resolve the issue.
First, try disabling any antivirus you have on your system. Sometimes after programs/games are updated, the antivirus program will see them as a threat due to the new files added to the program/game which can cause issues.
If this does not resolve the issue and allow you to download/launch the client you can try moving the game out of the program files folder. If you are not sure how to do this please follow the instructions below.
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder, which by default should be C:\Program Files(x86)\Guild Wars 2.
2. Move this folder to a new location like C:\Games\Guild Wars 2. The location doesn’t matter specifically, as long as it’s outside of Program Files and Program Files(x86).
3. Navigate to this new location and “Right-click” on “GW2.exe” selecting “Create Shortcut.”
4. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode.”
5. “Right-click” on “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and select “Properties.”
6. Click the “Compatibility” tab.
7. Checkmark “Run this program as an Administrator.”
8. Click “Ok.”
Once completed, please double click “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and try playing Guild Wars 2 again. If this helps resolve your issue, please copy that shortcut and use it to start Guild Wars 2 from now on.
If you are still experiencing issues after performing the above steps, comment on this thread and let us know.
Same endless crashing after the patch , tried to run the -repair option to the launcher, stalls for a while and then shows up the login screen, after I tried to log in with any character it shows loading screen and then crashes.

becose of the patch i even try reinstall the game and now i cant even install the game launcher crashes
Lol… I went to the GW2 map
Says i wasnt allowed in but if i still wanted to keep going
Only saw 4 files (including Dump file or something)
And now i can download…. (not sure if it works tho)
Weird stuff ><
*Its working now
(edited by Khain.9436)
I can’t reinstall either. This is the only error I get and it happens instantly. It doesn’t give me a chance to repair or anything.
Tried the offered solution, and it produced no change. Still freezing as the launcher is opened.
admin lacey i tried that and no it is not working
snip
Tried, both with antivirus and firewall off. Did nothing for me :C
Still same error.
Tried the offered solutions, didn’t help. Still getting the Coherent UI error message.
I tried this as well and it didn’t change anything
I was able to redownload the installer, but when I tried to actually reinstall it froze when the page with the actual download GW2 button came up.
my launcher just goes away, when i start gw2 with the 256color settings then i see my launcher, else not. And i played today already without problems (without the 256collor option)
another thing is the patched only downloads 30mb worth of information then tries to load. games clearly open but it won’t show. i can minimize and maximize it but you dont see nothing.
Tried the solution with moving the game out of program files, no antivirus, running as admin but launcher still freezing upon starting it.
I don’t get any crash message, the launcher is just there being non responsive.
(edited by Renske.6178)
Think i just gonna watch a movie and hope tomorrow it will be fixed!
My games just freeze on login screen
It was freezeing on download but now it just freeze on login screen.
The launcher crashes instantly.
I had already tried to go through the repair process with no luck, so I deleted it entirely and grabbed the installer from the account section. I turned off my antivirus and gave it a whirl.. no luck.
What I have is the what would be the login/update UI, only all it has is the title gw2-anet graphic and the sylvari graphic, and a solid red bar at the bottom. No controls at all – not even the window button controls usually found on the top-right.
ETA: I tried running the installer again, and this time the UI comes up correctly, with “Install Guild Wars 2” on the red bar at the bottom, but nothing is clickable. Running Windows 8.1, tested on 2 computers, same issue. Second computer doesn’t even have antivirus.

Tried the proposed fix and did not change anything unfortunately.
Tried the offered solutions, didn’t help. Still getting the Coherent UI error message.

Several developers are looking into this now. Thank you for trying the suggestions above, and for reporting back. It’s very helpful when we get this sort of immediate feedback, and the devs are on the case!
step 1 : same error with the laucher. frozen
step 2 : after a win update, everything was ok and I was able to run the game.
step 3 : a click on the tp in game gave me a new crash.
now back in step 1. impossible to connect to the game. multiple reboot change nothing. boring…
Already tried all the suggestions above nothing worked =(
Same over hier, I tried all the suggestions above and it didn’t worked out for me. I’ll run a couple of tests and give you any feedback if I find a way around that issue.
that’s weird, changing my system from 16bit to 32bit fixed this problem as well. it works now.. the heck? you guys should change it and see if it works.
I have also tried the proposed solution and the crashing remains. Crashing when I try to enter a zone from the character select screen.
