Hi pmnt,
Why don’t you send us a support ticket and we can help you out one on one? We might need to request some more info from you and go through a bit of troubleshooting that could get a bit lengthy for a forum thread.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Okay, thank you. I wanted to ask here if others noticed problems with the new patch as well.
Until that, I’ll play GW2.
Just to add something on this matter, yesterday I got a FPS drop as well in LA. Where I normally get around 30-40, it dropped to 10-15 or less (those FPS drops are normal in crouded areas, but it never went below 20, except WvW). The weird part is that it was totally random (to me). Some camera angles and locations caused the drop, while others didn’t. A note to that: I monitored my CPU and GPU usage, and (I cannot remember which one exactly) one had a lower usage than normal. So something wasn’t performing optimally.
It seems that it’s back to normal as of today. So I don’t know what exactly caused it, but for me it was just a matter of a reboot (a simple map transition didn’t solve it).
You may want to check that nothing else is running in the background that’s eating your CPU/GPU time.
Totally offtopic (also not saying this is your problem…), but this makes me remember playing A2 Racer II on a very old Win98 pc (also very long ago of course) while the computer randomly decided to check for a floppy disk. During this time (around 2 minutes I believe) the game would just stutter all over te place. I also remember myself continuously mashing the pc in the hope of it would stop doing that (how was a 10 year old supposed to know that it wouldn’t work? :P). Ohh, good times… although I think my parents weren’t happy about that…
Anyway, I stop here, otherwise I just keep on talking about unrelated stuff… (but hey, it can be funny right? (: )
Also got a drop this update.
I have to be totally alone to get a smooth FPS.

Changing graphics settings or switching CFX on or off changes the FPS by maybe 1-2. So I’m assuming the issue lies in a CPU process.
Same problem here!
same here, but this is nothing new from GW2 when it comes to them decorating lions arch.
Same here, just logged in after week of not playing.

I’ve noticed a significant drop in FPS since the patch. I was trying to make it to the Karka Queen in Southsun. . I was getting 2 FPS. Before the patch, I was running just fine.

Same here. Since Wintersday Patch WvW is unplayable and getting crap fps in LA and other zones as well. QQ
Hi!
Has anyone else noticed FPS drops since the wintersday patch?
To me, the massive performance degradation has been exactly this same the last Wintersday (and to a lesser extent, Halloween… mentioning just in case you didn’t play or didn’t notice back then). This hits Lion’s Arch especially badly, but for some reason, translates even to maps that visually didn’t change at all (maybe the game engine carries some runaway scripts from LA with you wherever you go next, who knows. There has been once a situation with Fireheart Rise that did something similar, more or less forcing you to restart the client every time you left that map… but I didn’t have that happen to me for a while now).
In any case, seeing that a whole year later, the very same issues are back, I’d just wait for anet to drop the Wintersday theme some time mid-January, and as I assume, the performance will be instantly back to normal. It would be like, for the fourth time.

Yep, the very same thing here. Since the Wintersday patch my framerate in LA dropped down to 5-15, depending on which direction i’m facing my camera.
Specs:
- FX8350 8-core 4GHz – core parking off
- 24 gigs of ram x 1600
- ATI7900 GDDR5
- Kingston’s SV300 SSD
- Win7 x64 – tweaked, cleared of bloatware, etc
Would be really nice to get the original framerate GW2 started with, instead of “new awesome habbahabba facelifting Total Butt Makeover Kits”…
same here , i had 60 FPS before patch now i have 10
Me too I’ve also dropped about 5-10 fps and about 15-20 in normal areas since wintersday

I have the same excact problem as well. My fps was fine,an average 30-40 in any area,at medium/high graphics. But after I installed the new patch today my fps drops 10-15 sometimes as low kitten in any area in the game,no matter where I am what I do,it’s always that low. What is so special about these wintersday patches?…
EDIT!!! : I tried to install some windows updates, update my GPU driver, and a simple reboot letting those new updates install. Now this fixed my problem and what’s even more is that I’ve now got like 20+ more fps than what I usually had before. LOL.averaging 50-60 now

I’ve noticed more fog/smoke in different areas such as LA and Cursed Shore, which has always been THE performance killer on my system.
This is ridiculous.
I’m sitting at the ramp that goes into Lions Court. I have my settings all on the lowest possible and it’s stuck at 40 fps. No matter what setting I have it sticks at 40fps.
If I don’t face the area it jumps back up to 60fps at every graphics setting.
I’m really getting offended at the lack okittennowledgement of these wide spread FPS issues GW2 has and the horrendous optimization. If I have an intermediate rig and I can’t run it smoothly with everything set to low is someone really going to sit there and blame my machine?
At what point does ArenaNet take responsibility for their game performance?
I am also getting a MAJOR fps drop to the point of the game being unplayable…it started with wintersday patch…I usually get virtually no lag and 40fps (even in WvW zergs)…TODAY I am getting drops to 5-10 fps even in Queensdale with noone around!
Doesn’t seem to be ISP lag though (I am at 8-9MBps)…

Do you also have low fps if you go somewere like queensdale and restart uour game as if I vist la during a session it lowers my fps untill next restart

Hello, I have exactly same problem. In LA got 20 – 25fps, in any other location there is no problem with FPS, usualy above 50 on max detauls (i7 860 and 7950). But during this event LA is unplayable :-(. Any idea if possible to fix?
It does appear to that, every time there’s a big patch, FPS suffers. I’m not sure what extra “stuff” goes into each one, but it does seem to be detrimental to performance.
I was suffering from exactly the same issue until I updated my GPU (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/My-FPS-is-now-great-again/first#post3393435) although that is a rather drastic approach to a cure – although I had no choice, really.

Its not the patch as much as the CRAP laying on the ground and the new Graphics put up everywhere (AKA Xmas Decorations).
LA is the worse cause of the ‘dress up’ of the Mystic Forge. And From what I have seen those are all HQ res textures that cannot be ‘turned’ down (even the ‘glowing’ snow on the ground), and I feel that is the root cause of patch related issues. HQ high rez textures being forced.
