Confirmed by Carbine (Wildstar) and he just announced he was taking NCSoft back down. And of course at that moment I logged in and am getting the same insane lag as last night. No coincidence.

I think the DDoS is happening again i got d/c twice already and can’t log back to the game

Been happening all evening. In Dungeons, Plains of Ashford, Dry Top, Lion’s Arch….every where. No where is safe from lag or disconnects.

Trying to log into the game with " /clientport 80 ….login error
Trying to log in normally without the port test ….login error

If I manage to get logged in constant skill lag, lag skips, disconnects…until this gets fixed the game is unplayable.

I just got disconnected to…

I hate ddos… people with no lives.

Can’t seem to login atm. Either get instantly disconnected upon logging into the game or flat out disconnected at character select.

Finally got back into the game after much spinning of the login. Was in Dry Top for the queen skritt event. We all start going in. 90% of us were having lag issues. 20-50 or more seconds for anything to happen and then Code 07.

PLEASE FIX THIS ANET.

Someone taking credit isn’t really confirmation. It could be someone just taking credit for something he isn’t doing. That said, it’s possible he, or someone else, is doing a DDoS attack. It could also be bad routing by Level 3.

ArenaNet/NCSoft can only do so much. Other games are going down for hours.

I have been told the same thing about the attacks on NcSoft games in general. Not just Guild Wars 2 but Guild Wars 1 as well along with Wildstar. I am sure that Anet is working as hard as they can to return everything to normal. I think they do need to boost their protection through their games to prevent this from happening again. I can only imagine all of the NcSoft workers are freaking out right now to fix it all.

This guy claimed to have DDoSed it.Some guys on the archeage forums posted the link to his twitter.He’s been claiming to have been ataking quite few games.Including gw2/wildstar.

I still don’t get the point of of why someone would want to go around DDoSing stuff. It just seems like such a time waster.
I vote we blame him on this unless something else comes up.

I am horrified that someone who comes off as such a tool — like this guy from the twitter account in the DDoS link — is even capable of disturbing my evening’s entertainment like this. Can’t our bad guy hackers at least be glamourous (and intelligent) enough to use 140 characters in a haiku or something?

Anet needs to start getting on Level 3’s back as well.

IF it is a DDoS there isnt much that Anet can do about it.
IF it is Level3, they really need to have a sit down with them to look at the sometimes world wide routing of GW2 packets.

I thought DDoSing became uncool around the same time people started realizing using packet editors in MySpace chat didn’t make you cool.

If the chF dude is DDoSing, he’s like 9 years late to the party. It’s 2014 now, we have bigger stuff to worry about like how many achievements and platinum trophies we have.

Would be nice though to have Anet confirm that the attack on Wildstar is affecting GW2 as well. I mean, it makes sense cause they are both NCSoft titles and I believe the servers are in the same location, but still would be good for them to officially address the situation.

Seconded. I tend to blame other people for stuff anyway.

It is probably some from column A, and some from column B, but most from Column C: which is that the US internet infrastructure is getting hammered right now from China and Korea. IPViking has a real time map here: http://map.ipviking.com/ You can see the attack clusters. It’s astonishing.

Come on ANET over 30 disconnects in less than 20 minutes. Get it together would you? How about a fix or something?

Well it’s not as if they are in control of the issue at the moment. They’re being attacked. Getting upset with Anet is like blaming the victim, not the mugger.

This has been happening since yesterday, and according to his twitter, the FBI has tried to contact him already.

He said he blocked them instead.

They do not have to contact him to arrest him. Under the patriot act Twitter has to release his infos as well as all posts over the last 2 years. If they use the patriot act he is pretty well screwed.

I know we all want to play, and are annoyed by the lag and disco and rubberbanding; but before we light torches and demand the sacrifice of a tender IT intern on the Holy Alter of Annoya, I think you guys might want to take a look at the current state of network attacks. IPViking has a real time map that shows a pretty good estimation of where attacks are coming from, and where they are going; and from all appearances, it looks like a new botnet hit at about the same time as the new release did. http://map.ipviking.com/

There’s been an extraordinary amount of traffic from China that is DDOS looking. Not long after, huge spikes in zombie traffic from GoDaddy in Arizona started pounding on infrastructure in the midwest and southwest.

In just the last hour or so, the traffic from the US is beginning to really spike, probably as people turn on their systems after dinner, and the bots get to work. There’s been more than 5,000 targets in the last 15 minutes.

It’s amazing to watch; if only it weren’t so spooky.

I can’t get in at all.

I hope this gets resolved soon.

You’d think they’d be a bit wiser and use different nodes for each game so they cannot all be taken offline by 1 attack.

Guild wars 2 is unplayable now, the lag is such that we can’t even run around. Skills aren’t working, portals aren’t working, etc. Extreme lag.

This is annoying… just wanted to enjoy myself :c. Feel bad for ANet also since I’m sure they are getting a lot of heat for this :v

Anet owns its own servers, but the connection still go through the datacenters set up by NCsoft in Dallas (i think).
Would explain why every time he takes down Wildstar, that GW2 either gets increasingly laggier, or down completely as well.

Massive lag reported from everyone in all areas right now. 5-20 second skill delays, log in delays and even the forum site is incredibly sluggish. Really seems like a ‘Distributed Denial of Service’ DDoS attack.
