Since the begin September Tequatl update my computer has started crashing and rebooting all the time and i never knew why and for others it has been earlier or even had it for ages. Standing akitten Lions arch wouldn’t make me crash and it would only happen in guild wars alone.

Everybody always came with the same kittenty reason “its probably over heating or your power supply” and im sure everybody is getting really tired of it.

But after weeks of trying to find a fix for this and running pc tests i had to give up because i couldn’t find anything at all and nobody could give any usefull info other then “overheat or PSU” (AKA uneducated answers and troubleshooting trail and error questions)
Since i have nothing else to play at all i just bite through it and hope someday there will be a fix to this. And playing all my different characters i noticed different crash patterns. And i noticed that my guardian and my elementalist have become unplayable. When ever my guardian uses Judge’s Intervention i will crash 70% of the time using it. and if i go on my Double dagger ele i will crash when ever i use ride the lighting, no matter where or when. I WILL crash. Now obviously this cannot possibly be any overheating or power supply issue and this has to be a conflict with the game with hardware or just the game itself (bad optimization)

This is not a fix at all for the hundreds of people that also have this issue. But for people who do have this issue. Try to find what causes you to crash and send as much information to support or any other means necessary so they might actually acknowledge or fix this error.

A game on its own should not be causing any kind of system-wide reboot. The game however could expose weakness in a driver (likely graphics) that could cause the reboot though.

I can’t say I’ve heard of anyone else claiming spontaneous reboots though without reason. I would have to say such an issue is very isolated, and system-specific, possibly due to either faulty hardware or driver(s).

So out of the dozens and dozens of games i play and not crashing like this in any of those games, and the only time i crash is when i do guild wars 2 and when i do certain abilities (and i cant stress enough that it will ONLY happen when i do certain skills). It HAS to be my computer and there is no possible way that its just guild wars?

Obviously you have not read the forum very much as a LOT of other people have this issue and a lot more threads about it , some have had it for months, others since the latest update. But its always the same type of crash.

At least with Windows Vista, 7 or 8: yes.

The kernel is built with several layers of protection. The game CANNOT directly access the hardware to cause those types of issues. Again, like the previous person pointed out, it maybe exposing a weakness or fault in a driver.

Most newer games are built around DirectX11. GW2, is based around DX9. You may have a corrupt install of DX9 libraries. Which could explain the crashes in GW2 only.

I would follow this post about using system file checker:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm

and ensure DX is fully updated:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

Also, you may want to try to uninstall/reinstall your graphical drivers.

It wont be GW2 directly causing the issue, if it were then alot mroe people woud have the same issue.
As others have said, it is goign to down to a software or hardware issue on ur PC.
personaly if i end up spending to much time trying to solve a issue such as urs on my own PC. I just reformat my hard drive and start fresh. That allmost always works my end. If the problem persists then it suchs a hardware issue, at which point i start swaping things out.

Reading is apprently very hard to do. Tons of people have this issue.
And i already did a format and reinstall of everything last week. Im sick of running millions of system check programs. I shouldn’t have to swap out components of my pc just to play a single game that is causing people issues. Some acknowledgement that they screwed something up in the game that makes it un-compatible with something in your computer would at least be a lot better instead completely ignoring people that have these issues with just this game.

What operating system are you on? What GPU do you have? What driver version are you using and where did you get the driver? What other non-stock drivers are you using (mouse, chipset, etc)?

I still can’t just imagine GW2 being able to cause a system reboot, without it being the fault of something else.

What is your full system specs, everything right down to the size of the PSU, without that info no one on here can even begin to try and figure out or help you.

Also what settings are you using ingame.

Yes, OP – it must be the game. That’s why I can play several hours without a single crash or disconnection (i.e. 6 to 8 hours+).

Look; either you want help troubleshooting this issue with your hardware and can provide us some useful information, OR (of course) you can blame A-net and continue to have problems.

BTW, all it takes is ONE piece of software (or even a driver) to cause a conflict with another piece of software (in this case Guild Wars 2) which can cause a computer problem.

Most of us here are glad to try and help. However, if you don’t want to provide us needed information (crash logs, system info, etc.); well, good luck – we can’t help you.

The fact is:
The windows operating system is setup to protect the hardware from applications. The game has to interact with one layer that passes on down the chain. Basically, the game cannot directly access the drivers and because of HAL (Hardware Abstraction layer), the drivers cannot access the hardware. That is why we had all the driver problems going from XP to Vista.

The game cannot and will not directly cause a BSOD. Sorry, but it’s the truth. It sounds more like a conflict with a driver or library; most likely something with DX9.

see this

directx 11 is backward compatible .. directx 10 was not and you do not see it anymore anywhere

check the forums of your video card manufactures and see what problems are happening … the forum on 327 driver from nvidia went from nothing on release day to 55 pages deep 3 days later complaining about crashes and other effects

windows also does not even test its updates for windows .. seen that on google news .. the September update stopped microsoft office from working .. specifically the update that ends in 430

You are exaggerating the numbers (understandable due to your frustration of the issue) as 10 or even 50 people reporting this issue is NOT a LOT. All your claims prove is that it’s very likely all of you have similar hardware and are running the same potentially bugged drivers. If +50,000 players DON’T have these kinds of issues, it can’t be a generic issue with the game software.

NOTE that I am NOT stating that it could not be some isolated portion of the code that uses a specific software call to the driver that causes the crash, but others are obviously running that portion of the code without crashes, so it stands to reason that the GW2 code itself is not bugged.

I don’t see in your post (this one anyway) where you indicate you have upgraded / downgraded your video drivers and / or the exact symptoms of the reboot (are you getting a BSOD, etc.).

I’ve been having the same issue for about a month, even went as far as changing out my memory. I am running an Nvidia Ge-force 560ti and have tried every driver out there finally settling on the 320.49 beta. Unfortunately this didn’t fix it so i decided to try one more thing. My wife has the exact same system as mine and has never crashed; the only difference was the graphic settings so i mirrored hers and ran 9 straight hours yesterday without a hiccup.

These are the main changes that i made in the graphics options in game:
- Render Sampling (Native)
- Character Mode Limit (dropped it from high to medium)
- Character Model Quality (dropped it from high to medium)

I hope this helps, and i will continue to work towards isolating what is causing this problem but for now at least i can play without worrying about crashing.

Vini, Vidi, Vici, Viridis…I came, I saw, I conquered…I got a green??

That would indicate a memory issue with your system.

Running character models on High increases the games (GW2.EXE) memory map usage in the system.

I would download memtest86+ and run it for 36 hours straight to rule out memory errors.

If you are just now using Native, you were using SuperSample before? Just curious as I know that ‘can’ use more memory as the textures are a lot more DPI on Super then native.
