I really like this game, and I can put up with a lot of problems, but if I’m going to randomly lose an hour or so of progress just like that, it’s time to take a break.
Torchlight II is waiting in my Steam Library; I’ll be back in a few weeks. Hopefully this crap will have stopped happening by then. Sorry, my limited leisure time is not something I’m willing to gamble with.

I wasn’t even logged in and lost data. All my gear is still present but all the exploration I did (two jump puzzles, finishing the northern part of Burning Steppes and starting the lower portion) all gone. Level is still the same and like i said I still have the gear I got from the chests.

It’s simple really, they won’t compensate for it.

Wow I dont feel like playing this game any more. Reminds me of other bad MMO experiences. At least some MMOs would try to compensate in same way players. Totally disappointed. Feel sorry for you guys who lost over 20 golds…. Thats like losing 40-50 $US. I lost around 10$US I could use for gem store items/upgrades.

I was doing my story line Forging the Pact. Ended up doing it 3 times due to the escorts not moving & bugging out on me. But managed to get it the 3rd time. When I zoned out lost connection to the login server.
Now I logged back in & guess which part of the story line I’m on.
Yeap that’s right Forging the Pact for the 4th time.

Not to mock the losses incurred by everyone, but I’d be all for a character costume set that has a T-shirt saying “Replacement Legendary Armor” and cardboard sword strapped to the back.
Or at least something to commemorate “The lost hour”.

Luckily for me I only lost one Waypoint and one PoI, and some silver…however that’s still my time that’s literally gone unnoticed.
I realize if the data is lost there is nothing you can do, but I think there has to be more than just a little Twitter post aplogizing when stuff like this happens. I recommended GW2 to so many friends and praised you guys as a developer that cares. Please don’t let me stand corrected…

ANet you guys seriously need to do something about this. If you think a “Were sorry you lost gold, items, levels, karma, rares, TP items, progression, crafting levels, character levels, and possibly real money” is going to cut it, then you guys need to really grasp what customer service means. This outage was due to ANet and NOT the players. Some type of compensation is needed to restore the faith we are all losing. A simple 4000 gems or something small is not going to kill you guys, but something is better then nothing.

Yeah, lost progress/ items/ currency is close to the worst thing possible in an MMO. Lost characters would really be the only thing that can beat it. It’s not okay that it can happen, it’s not okay that it did happen. And a “Oops, our bad” sort of response is just insulting. And naturally that pathetic response was on Twitter, not on the forums, because it’s easier to handle this in a more passive aggressive way than to deal with it directly. That’s very Bioware of you, ANet. Don’t be Bioware.

Worst part: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Gold-missing-from-Inventory-merged/first
Gold/items/progression missing is ongoing issue. Its not first time happening. So is it worth playing game when you know you could lose stuff you invested time and money in matter of seconds? And all you’ll get is another apology.

AGAIN same BS. I click to place order in TP and get “network error”. Re log and sure enough gold is gone but I cant cancel order (if it was placed since it doesn’t show that order was placed) and I don’t have item I placed order for. TP is still bugged. This is how it started last time. With TP like this we don’t need hackers.

I find it odd that we have these official forums where we can come to voice are concerns, and the response is put up on Twitter? A little frustrating all around, but I would at least hope for a response about what happened, why, and how it will be addressed in the future as to not happen again. I don’t want to throw around flames, but customer service was a bit lacking here at best. I happen to be a part of a support function for a large operation, and there is no way (ever) that a customer (whether it be internal or external) could have a serious issue like this and receive no communication.

Why was there a “rollback” at all?
I lost all the progress made on my Mesmer last night, levels, hearts, gold, mats, etc etc.
I assume this is being fixed ASAP correct? I can’t imagine they would de-level people and take everything away just for kitten and giggles.

Posted by: shanejayhayes.9715
Wow I just read the last page with their official “response”, I could have sworn this wasn’t a Blizzard game. Apologizing does not get my levels or gear back or complete that god awful underwater heart that takes 30 minutes. I am still holding out hope that whoever posted that Twitter message is currently being flogged while his co-workers say things like “Dude we aren’t Blizzard you can’t say stupid things like that, now go fix it”.
Was having a hard enough time enjoying that toon and now I get to do it all over again? I think not, at least not until I see a rollback to before the rollback or some sort of compensation. So much lost and all we get is a Tweet?
Maybe Bioware hacked the ArenaNet Twitter account? Next thing you know the official Anet response will be “It’s working as intended” to everything.

This is bad….real bad….
Do we have to play the game in fear this could happen anytime?
The rare drops lost, the discovery, the levels, the time invested??
There is nothing more fustrating (to me) than having your accomplishments taken away from you in a game.

Posted by: storment.7963
This is really frustrating. Now I have to constantly be worried that at any moment any of the progress I have made or amazing loot that I earned from a random drop could suddenly be taken away from me because of a server crash. And that’s not a rage-induced complaint, it’s a fact—it has already happened to me (this is the second time actually). This can’t be working as intended and can’t be what anet wants us to expect from their game, is it?

At least it was just an hour for you. I logged in this morning and it was like nothing I did last night saved. I’m back at level 6 (when I was 15) and none of the hearts or anything are filled for me. No WPs, skill points, etc.
Wasted a night playing basically it appears. Should have jsut come home from work and went to bed lol.

A large portion of players did not get rolled back or kicked out and only a small portion of us lost all of our gains and time spent.
They said they refuse to compensate the portion of players that where affected by their mistake.
i lost over 2gold and my map progress over the hour.
This is some very bad karma.

Sad thing is that I was just finally starting to get into the game and actually enjoying it. Been playing for the past week with my girlfriend, but haven’t really been able to get into the game.
Then this happened. Talk about a kick in the balls. I have like no interest in this game at all now. It’s just like why bother playing when at any given time I could zone and get screwed out of everything I’ve gotten.
I haven’t seen an MMO rollback like this in like 10 years.

Will not recommend that game any longer…..from 9/10 it’s 6/10…..not to much sense to play for me if they do not wanna compensate their mistakes.

if they do not wanna compensate their mistakes.
It’s not that they don’t want to, they can’t… even if they have data backups they are unlikely to be on such short interval as an hour or so, and they have already stated that whatever backups they have, they don’t (yet) have the tools to roll back individual accounts or characters from those.
They probably also have no way of knowing exactly which accounts were actually affected or how.. so they would have to take each players word for it if they did proceed to compensate somehow. Realistically if they did give out something as compensation it wouldn’t be the items people claim they lost, because they would have no way to verify those claims. Also doing such operation by hand would be impossible anyways.
They could do something like hand you a bunch of gems (just an example) probably, but that would not make you any happier I think, and even then if everyone just starts claiming they lost stuff then the compensation wouldn’t be much of one because people could just claim they lost things and claim their free gems anyways.

Dito.
Lost all the gold I withdrew from the BLT. The lost coins are not in the BLT since the roll back. Seriously sketchy. I don’t get how it can save the BLT withdrawl but NOT save the +gold to inventory & how that would affect me since I was logged out at the time of GW2s heart attack & following roll back.
Since the antifarming script has limited some peoples ability to make there own gold… and driven BLT player trade listings through the roof to unbelievable heights I dont know what I’m going to do.
This puts serious doubt on Anets Gem store reliability.
As a side note; I’ve been playing since early start @ launch & never had issues with error 7:… Since the rollback all I get now are error 7’s after a few seconds or minutes playing. BUYA! When it rains it pours… lol. Tech support here I come… >’."< /cry

If this was a subscription based game, most of my friends and I would have canceled over this. Like Windchaser said, what’s the point of playing if at any moment you could crash and lose everything you’ve accomplished?
I -was- telling my friends who were on the fence how good the game was and getting them to consider buying it, now I’ll be telling them otherwise.

The fact that ANet don’t even have the common decency to address this (other than a “our bad, sucks to be you” post on Twitter) is terrifying. One of the things that has impressed me most with this gaming experience is the fact that the devs are much more involved with the community than Bioware’s are, but now it’s becoming the same crickets and distance.
They need to realize that this isn’t just a problem because of what happened last night. It’s a problem going forward because now we know that we can lose progress if the login server goes down while we’re playing, yet there’s no mechanism to warn us. That’s bad. That’s really, really bad and needs to be addressed extremely quickly, and a dev needs to at least say, “Hey, it’s our fault and we know it blows, and even though we can’t fix what happened, we are working on preventing it in the future.”
That’s a much bigger issue to me than the loss of progress last night.

I’ll agree, hearing the same statement, but with a ‘we;re looking into making sure this doesn’t happen again’ is alot better. I really do have this thought of ‘so will this happen again?’ now…

You’re not wrong about this… however, they were willing to take the word of banned exploiters that they wouldn’t do it again, and subsequently allowed them to play again.
So … essentially, they’ll take the word of cheaters, but not the word of those of us who don’t break the rules, but just got screwed by a crash. A crash that did not affect everyone equally.
IMO, roll it back for all across the board (Because I’m not even sure you can consider a loss that only affected certain people a ‘rollback’, because rollbacks are all-encompassing usually), or do something to compensate the people who came here and tried to explain what happened to them.
I’m not going to threaten to quit over it or anything like that, but I am really disappointed in their lack of any action whatsoever, and I admit I am feeling paranoid about being on the game at all now because I could lose a bunch more and get told “Oh well, crap happens”.
