No tips / ideas?
I have been looking through many posts about this because another computer in the house is having this issue. I have found NOTHING and even reinstalled EVERYTHING (even my OS). ANet have no idea what the problem is and don’t reply or if they do it is with something which clearly doesn’t work.
This has been going back into 2012 I believe and it still hasn’t been resolved so they really need to do something about it.
Good luck mate with a good response.

Thanks man – still, this information worries me (that you have reinstalled your OS). Now I’m really giving the format a second thought … I mean, it’s just so much work, so much data I need to backup .. I hope it’s not all for nothing.
I’m sad, since I’ve really not been playing a lot in the past 3 months, but just recently had my enthusiasm rekindled by the whole living story stuff and guild bounties and .. and now I can’t play -.-
I am having the same issue also and have no clue what else to do
I’m having the same problem, same screen appears. I’ve followed every suggestion I could find…updated drivers, used drive sweepers, disabled UAC, uninstalled virus checkers, searched for weird dll files….no luck. I hope someone can figure this out.
UPDATE: I’m not sure why this worked, but I physically removed my Radeon GPU, rebooted, and let the on-board NVIDIA chip take over. (NOTE: I did NOT remove the Radeon driver…just the card itself.) I then executed Gw2.exe and the download started. After confirming that the game would load and run, I then powered off my computer, plugged the Radeon GPU back in, rebooted, and confirmed that the game would still run using the Radeon…..and it does.

Problem returned after trying to update DirectX as described here:
I’m having this problem too. I’m working with tech support now. I’ll update with results.
Edit: I also recently switched from an Nvida card to a ATI card.

im having the same issue right now i was playing normally , log out and now its stuck ……………
I’m not sure why but restart pc+modem work for me when this problem show up
I have this same constant problem whenever there’s a update patch, small or large. I usually have to go to system restore in order for it to download fully.
This is what worked for me.
One thing I have learned in Technical Support is to never assume something can not be the issue. Though I have to admit, I do not see how a graphics driver would prevent the downloading of the game files. Never the less, let’s try a clean installation of your drivers using a program called “Driver Fusion.” The intent here is to make sure all previous versions of drivers, Nvidia and AMD are fully removed as having left over files can cause serious issues. Especially old driver files from different manufacturers.
To do this:
1. Please download the latest driver from the following website and save it to your desktop, but do not install it yet:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx
2. Download Driver Fusion by visiting http://treexy.com – Click “Products” then select “Driver Fusion.”
3. Click “Download for Free” and save it to your desktop.
Once you have both files on your desktop, we will need to remove your currently installed drivers. To do this:
4. Navigate to “Control Panel” in Windows and select “Uninstall a program or Add/remove programs” depending on your operating system.
5. Right-click on “AMD Catalyst Control Panel” and select “Change.”
6. Select “Uninstall Manager” then “Express.”
Once the removal process has completed, please double click the file “Driver_Fusion_X.X.X” to start the installation process.
7. Choose the default installation options and once installed, start “Driver Fusion.” (note, you may have to provide administrative rights if you have User Account Control enabled)
8. Left click and highlight the following options:
AMD – Display
Intel – Display
Nvidia – Display
Do NOT check any labeled “Chipset.”
9. Once selected, click “Analyze.” This will scan your system for any AMD, Intel or Nvidia drivers and list them for you to review.
10. Once you’re list has compiled, select “Delete” to remove these entries.
At this point, you will need to reset your computer to complete this process. When you return to Windows, your display will be in a low resolution. This is normal.
Once you return to Windows:
11. Right-click the driver file you downloaded in step 1 and select “Run as Administrator.” (note, if you are on Windows XP, you will not have this option, just double click the file)
12. Once the setup file is loaded, select “Install” then “Custom.”
13. Click “Select All” and then click “Next” to start the installation process. (Note, your screen may flicker or go blank during the installation process, this is normal)
Once the installation has completed, please reset your machine. Once you return to Windows, try playing again.
Should this not help to resolve your issue, please generate a new Game Advisor report so we can review the driver installation.

Brian

ive experienced the same difficulty this morning and just disconnect from your network and reconnect and it should work fine, as simple as it sounds.
Hi,
first of all, yes, I’ve read and tried the steps described in the FAQ with no result. I’ve also, on top of opening seperate ports, set myself as the DMZ host, but nothing worked…I have noticed a small download (I think about 0,5 MB) before the launcher stopped and stayed at the said “0kB (0kB/sec)”.
The app stays responsive the whole time – as far as task manager can tell.
I had no problems running it yesterday – I did change my internet access point since then, but I think the router can be ruled out..
I’m already downloading everything I need to format my machine, but I’ll only be doing that as a last resort, because UNI, custom eclipse, virtual machine, etc. . . backing up all that crap takes a LONG time.. I’ve attached my dxdiag, if thats of any help.
Edit: I’ve also attached a cap of the state of the launcher, just to make it obvious as to what I mean.
I just bought the game yesterday. I can only tell you this, and chances are very high that this is not your situation. But should at least give u some hints more to be able to track what the problem is. So After I installed the game from CD, I started playing another game because I didnt want to wait. That game was L2. When I switched back to see what the progress was on GW2 downloading files, I saw it had stopped as if the connection was interrupted. I restarted it and it started all over from again with decent speed like 2 mb/s then slowly got to 0 again. I did this for like 2 hours in a very frustrated mood. Then when I closed the game the problem suddenly disappeared. So whatever it is, there are certain stuff that somehow bother your connection, don?t know how or why
I had the same issue just after putting in a new AMD 7850 (Win7 64-bit).
Some combination of the following worked:
Install DirectX 9.0c
Uninstall everything Catalyst related
Reinstall Catalyst, but only install the graphics driver, none of the extra stuff
Run with -nopatchui command line switch
That got past the installer, but got stuck on a black screen with only a cursor. Running again without -nopatchui gave me a normal login prompt.
Man i’m telling you i can not stand on this any more. i’ve been working on this for 3 days long, WTF am i doing? I wanted to enjoy the game so i bought, not just for fix this.... And the company just did nothing is valuable. im tired...
steps I have taken to fix this :
disable windows firewall
uninstalled my antivirus
updated direct X
updated my video drivers
updated windows
ran in compatibility mode
ran as administrator
uninstalled my drivers / reinstalled them
deleted the install package and downloaded
plugged into WiFi and hardline
opened ports 80,443,6112, and 6600 and checked to make sure they were open
restarted my pc and router a million times, and rechecked all the port forward info each time
tried launching with a special command line “-somecrap”
threw a tempertantrum and gave up..
Same thing was happening to me yesterday. To get past the screen you are at, I just plugged into the ethernet instead of using WIFI and it worked. However, I haven’t gotten past the actual download of the game. Thats pretty much constantly at 0.00 kp/s download. Good luck
Have any of you tried bypassing your router and plugging the computer straight into your modem?
I’m wondering if this might be a port issue or something with your NAT. If you haven’t tried already, try going from your PC straight into your Modem without using a router.
If you’re trying on a laptop or a PC with a wireless connection, you can also try maybe taking your PC to a friends house and seeing if it works there. If it does, then at least you know it’s something with your network setup. Sorry if you have tried all this, just trying to throw out ideas that are easy to try.

Hey all,
It’s possible this could be a DNS issue. Please try the steps in the following link to override your current DNS settings and use Google’s Public DNS.
Using Google Public DNS
http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html
Once done, please follow the steps below to clear the DNS cache.
1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the R key. This should bring up the “Run” dialogue box.
2. In that box, type “cmd” without the quotes, and click the “OK” button. A DOS window should open.
3. Enter the following command below and press enter: ipconfig /flushdns
This should clear your DNS cache. You may need to perform this command a few times.
If this resolved the issue you will need to contact your ISP in order to have the issue resolved. Using a DNS that is not provided by your ISP may lead to slow connection issues.
