Guys, let’s not get carried away with arguing here. The OP made this thread to get help with his issue. Not to hear how others have it worse on a better system or other arguments. When Elred.4709 responds to is with a diagnostic log we can see what we can do to help him.
haha thanks Swordbreaker, i was already thinking about getting the extreme edition CPU, but that would have costed me about 600€ more :p
I guess that can wait :p
The i7 920 was never considered a high end cpu, even 4 years ago.
@ himmelweiss:
You and I have the exact same motherboard and cpu. I am only running 1 680 Classified but I feel your pain.
@himmelweiss ya me 2, but 100mhz higher clock and 3 more mb’s of l3 cache wasn’t worth $600 dollars for me

Really Phaze???
awesome!!! because that may help the devs to figure something out if they notice there are more people with exact the same specs, well close to.
Oh and don’t worry about getting another GTX 680, doesn’t really help at all for GW2 so far lol.
@Swordbreaker
exactly my thoughts exactly…
Ups. Wrong thread sorry.
Well i agree with Swordbreaker here….
I have posted my true high-end system specs already in that low fps thread, also gave details to GPU and CPU usage…. it’s a weird issue, expecially since the CPU is almost idling arround with just 20% usage while playing GW2, and both GPUs are only getting an usage of 50 – 56%.
Strange – drivers may not be as mature on the 6 series cards.
My system:
i7-2700k@4.8GHz
2xGTX580 SLI
16GB RAM @ 2133MHz
2x SSD Raid 0
120Hz LED monitor
I’m running at max settings (1920×1080) including ultra shadows.
In general PVE I’m hitting my vsync @ 120fps most of the time sometimes down to about 95 fps.
In heavily populated events (including WvW) I’ve seen 45 fps but not often.
I’ve never seen 20 fps.
My GPU usage is often > 90% with high fps and less with lower fps as to be expected.
I use EVGA precision x on screen display to track it while I’m playing.
Running 304.79 beta drivers.
One thing I’ve seen throughout these threads is people that don’t know how CPU, GPU usage relationships work in combination with their graphics cards memory bandwidth. People just assume low usage means they aren’t being used and have know idea what bottle-necking means and how it reflects in performance.
And of course there are those with their aspirations ahead of their machines capability.
Maybe I might over 9000 in BF3.
I have an older 4870 and in some maps my Gpu works 80-85% and the framerate is decent.. but in many others only works 25-30% and the game runs really slow.. in WvsWvsW hitting 10 fps sometimes wich is unplayable
@Easypeasy.1246
atm i just blame the nvidia drivers mainly and to some degree the GW2 Engine/Code :p
I don’t think my system has any bottle-necking issues, if it would, then i couldn’t play the other 20 games on my machine ultra smoothly with ultra max settings and stupidely high FPS compared to GW2.
You know, Games like:
- BF3
- Total War Shogun 2
- Anno 2070
- Skyrim

My bottle-necking comments weren’t towards you.
An interesting thing with the GTX680 though – they reduced the memory bus width so it has the same memory bandwidth as the GTX580. That means when the card isn’t near its limit it will out perform the GTX580 however when it is close or at the limit they perform the same – something which shows up on tests say at Anandtech for example.
Our cards have 192GB/s memory bandwidth btw (in SLI that’s 384 GB/s) – the ppl I was referring to are the ppl with cards in the order of 80-100 GB/s complaining they cant get high fps.
I recently upgraded my CPU from a AMD Athelon 64×2 3ghz to an AM3 Phenom II 4x 3.4 ghz and am having no issues. I havn’t changed any other hardware. 8g ddr2 ram and a gtx 285 at max settings, getting 60ish fps in town and 30+ in WvW. Now I did have to update my Bios to accommodate the new CPU, but after that it’s been smooth sailing. A modest GPU can kick this gameskitten the CPU is a bigger factor.
I’m not asking for high FPS like in BF3, but if it drops below 30FPS i’m seriously not impressed.

I can see your problem…
GTX 6GB Titan@1160Mhz
3007WFP@2560x16000
Open up a youtube video (any) and right click the video > click settings > make sure “enable hardware acceleration” is NOT checked! Disabling this made my cpu usage go from 90+ to 60-70 and I have had 60+ frames again! I think it has to do with flash messing with your gpu. I was getting 8-15 fps before until I did this. May not work for all of you but it’s a miracle for me.
Edit: Refresh the youtube page after doing this then launch the game or relaunch if it was already open.

@ThisIsPatrick:
Have you tried downloading and installing the new CAP from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx#1
It was released only two days ago and it is being reported to have resolved a lot of people’s FPS issues. (I’m not going to lie, it may do nothing. But hey, a 0.5 MB download and a reboot won’t hurt that much!)
Yup have that installed already.
Tonight I attempted to play and for the first time I was actually able to submit an error report to ArenaNet. I’ve attached a copy of the log here as well.

Hi.
Operating System:
-MS Windows 7 Home premium 64 -bit SP1
CPU:
-intel core i5-2430m 2.4Ghz
-Whith Turbo Boost up to 3.0Ghz
RAM:
-4,00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3
Graphics:
Nvidia Geforce GT520m, up to 2741 MB TurboCache
FPS with different settings:
-Best Performance: 15-40
-Auto-Detect: 5-40
-Best Appearance: 5-20
Detailed FPS (Auto-Detect Settings)
-Within a City (more crowded with more buildings): 10-25 FPS
-Outside a City (less crowded and less buildings): 30-41 FPS
-Underwater: 30-41 FPS
-WvW, fighting in groups: 5-10 FPS
-WvW, outside groups: 17 FPS
Im having pretty much the same issue. Except last night (and ever since the release) I was running at a constant 60 fps with vsync. Just now I run the launcher, it patches as it often does, and bam 25 fps.
Tweaking settings in nvidia changes almost nothing, and changing ingame settings does nothing significant. The problem is the games resource usage. My gpu maxed out at 63%, my CPU was at 68%ish, and the game was using 1GB RAM at its peak, compared to its usual near 100% use and 1.7GB of RAM.
Any suggestions? Or is this a wait until they fix it thing?
just got the game and started my first character but i am unable to play because of how laggy it is, have a wired connection which is well. just very laggy overall, heavy delay no matter what.
Thanks.

I have 60+ FPS in a lot of areas but suddenly, for no reason I can tell, I drop to below 30. This happens much more often than I would like. I am running under 1920×1200 at auto detect settings (all on high).
I understand that FPS around 30 is considered “passable” but seriously, my system should be able to do 60+ easily. I enjoy my games a lot more at 60 FPS and hope this gets fixed.
I have all the latest updates and drivers and all that novice stuff.
Attached my dxdiag file. Note: My i7 975 is overclocked to 4GHz which is not reflected in that file.
Thanks.
Edit: Checking my stats as I play only 30% of my CPU is being used and 60% of my GPU at times of lower FPS. I also get heavy stuttering when I spin the camera around.

Forcing Nvidia card to run PhysX on GPU (in Nvidia settings) has made a positive difference in my FPS! Suggest people try that setting change!
all 600 users should not worry IMO, clearly there’s an optimization/driver issue with this series. EVERY single one of my mates who has a 600 series is having issue. ive tried all the different drivers zero difference in fps. one of my mates has a 560ti and is getting 20fps more than me in most situations, and im pretty sure he’s running slightly higher settings. so clearly something is wrong. im expecting the fps to double.
Really wish Arena net would acknowledge the problem. A simple, “We are working on it” would do wonders. The response I got from a Nvidia rep did not leave me hopefully, basically this isn’t going to be fixed for a good while.

I found this stuff and dont know what any of it means, hope its enough.
I cant see anything in game and cant see my Character. Everything is on low but my FPS is 1-5. Is it my Computer or could it be because im in a high sever?
AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.2Ghz and I have the same issue with high CPU-usage.
Game would run fine, but when there’s a battle in WvW or I enter Legacy of Foefire then my CPU dies.
Sometimes I get a sound effect at very high volume (flapping fire elemental wings or opening PvP gate is very loud when my CPU-usage is maxed).

It seems every other day like clockwork Anet patches the game and my performance drops substantially. On the days when they patch it and things work, I get over 100 FPS with everything maxed out completely. In fact, I have to limit the FPS to help keep the temperature down. On days like today when the patch kills my performance, my FPS doesn’t break 15 on the lowest possible settings even when there’s nothing going on around me.
I finally got a response in a ticket I placed about my FPS problems last week, and was basically given more advice that was already pretty much repeated on this forum. The end of their response was “if this doesn’t help, just check the forums until there’s news”, which sounds to me like they’re not going to answer anymore support tickets about this.
When we will get detailed information/dates about tweaks and specific improvements to the engine?
I’m getting really sad with my performance running or not crossfire.

Guild Wars 2 is the very first game not running on my computer (in high settings with good performance 60~100 fps) in three years.
I can’t believe it’s a ‘getting old’ problem but who knows.
(I’ve attached my dxdiag in another post)
David,
Sorry to hear about your problems. I would reccomend updating to the newest video card drivers (Catalyst 12.8 (I think)) and downloading and installing the newest CAP made available earlier today: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx
I know it sucks to have other games run well and this game not so much, but keep in mind that it is both on the developers of the game as well as the developers of the hardware to make sure both are optimized to run together.
Thanks for the reply but unfortunately, I have downloaded the latest drivers and CAP but the difference is unnoticeable.
I’m still stuck with low FPS after downloading and installing both.
I already had the drivers, just reinstalled to double check, no difference…

Your system is almost identical to mine.
Only difference is I have 10GB Ram and a MSI Z68A-G43.
I’ve noticed quite a few complaints here with the ATI Radeon HD 6950 which leads me to believe the main problem is definitely something to do with graphics card compatibility.

Black Citadel and Lions Arch seem to be the worst for me though I will drop down to like 22 fps for no reason at all every few minutes regardless of what i’m doing. Can Have heaps of players on the screen slinging spells and I will be fine at about 55-60 fps but then I’ll randomly drop again.

Ok ive tryed set on nvida drivers render ahead limit to 1 (i dont know is thats the right term my drivers arent in EN) and forced psyx on my GTX570 and it kinda helped a bit. I will also try WvW since i had biggest problems there…
my specs are:
i5-2500, GTX570, 8GB everything @ stock speeds…
At school atm, I’ll post a DxDiag when I get home.
I’m using Windows 7 64bit.
A GTX 295 is basically 2 overclocked GTX 260’s, and I’ve seen people with a single 260, and an even older CPU getting better performance than me.
Hopefully nvidia will make a new beta driver soon.
My fps is very low (below 10) no matter where I am at in the game even when I am in my own story line. I haven’t tried pvp or WvWvW because I don’t expect the game to even work there. I have no clue on what to do to make it better. I am running the game at the lowest setting. Please help. I have never had this problem b4 and I am avid user of mmo’s like wow, swtor, and sto.

I have two machines that I use to run GW2. I’m not at the moment on either, so no dxDiag unfortunately. I’ll post one later if I can edit this post.
Machine 1, runs GW2 ~30fps tops. Mostly 25-27fps. All settings maxed.
Intel Q9650 (quad-core 3GHz)
PNY GTX680
8Gb DDR2 RAM (
800MHz if I recall correctly)
Tried with 304 and 306 beta drivers, no chance.
Monitor 1920×1080@60Hz
Machine 2, runs GW2 17fps all maxed and @21fps all minimum.
Intel E6850 (dual-core 3GHz)
Palit GTX285
2Gb DDR2 RAM (
533MHz)
Tried with 285 WHQL and 304, 306 beta drivers. change max +-1fps.
Monitor 1280×1024@60Hz
Both machines running Win7-SP1 64bit.
fps doesn’t really change (max 2-3fps) between situations; exploring, hectic battle, main city.. doesn’t really matter. Machine 1 I can get to ~40fps if I go hug a wall and change my camera so that ALL I can see is the single wall texture.
Most other games run just perfectly fine. About 30-40fps on the second machine and 90+ on the first. Mostly I wonder why the difference between machines and/or details levels is so small.
(edited by AnttiV.4297)
GW2 is using Havok Physics. It doesn’t matter what you switch Nvidia Physx to in NVCP, the physics itself will always be calculated off the CPU.
I’m having a very bad FPS drop in a very specific area of the Black Citadel. If I move my character to the area around the Imperator’s Core my FPS will drop from a decent 45-55fps to single digits, 6-8 FPS. If I move my character back one step from the area where it drops it will immediately jump back up to the 50 FPS range. I’ve run around the other cities and get decent FPS and haven’t noticed this behavior in other locations. If I force a reload of the area by using a waypoint and running back to the area it sometimes will not occur but after another load it will return. The problem also occurs in the area immediately outside Black Citadel. Other areas of the game world run very well. I had not previously been to the area on my old AMD 5870 so I don’t know if i happens on that card as well. I may test that. The new GTX 670 seems to run perfectly fine in other games.
I’m running the following specs:
Brand new MSI GTX 670 OC on 304.79 betas. Also tried reference drivers and 306.02 with no change.
iCore7 950 at stock speeds on Asus Sabertooth x58 mobo.
6gb of 1600mhz DDR3.
120gb Sata2 OCZ SSD.
Win7 Pro.
Is there any way you guys can post a screen shot of you CPU utilization? I’m curious to see what the average cpu usage is like.
Hi all I really hope someone can help.
Firstly the problem. My FPS continually fluctuate from 20 fps down to 1 to 5 then spike back up and so on, which is making the game very hard to play and will make dungeons and WvW or PvP impossible. Also when I get the loading screen the FPS go up to over 60. Also this happens when I just stand still or am in a big fight.
I have tried every setting on the graphics possible and it makes no difference high or low settings all the same. I have updated my driver. Tried it with gameboost on and off. Tried it at all resolutions from 1024 × 600 up to 1600 × 900 windowed and fullscreen. And with raidcall on and off and it makes no difference to the FPS.
Now I know my laptop is not the best but it should at least run smoothly at lowest settings as I can play Dawn of War 2 ok and WoW ran fine. At 20fps the games seems to run smooth for me so would be please if I could just get it steady at that.
Now to my laptop:
Model: Packard Bell EasyNote LJ65-DT-100
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2,0 GHz
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 with 512MB of dedicated graphic memory

Hi Spartan ,
Unfortunately you probably wont get much better performance – your video card has a memory bandwidth of 12GB/s which is very low for use with modern games. WoW may run passable on low settings (I have an old laptop with old Nvidia card about the same vintage) but GW2 is more demanding than WoW.
To explain your loading screen 60 fps – when on the loading screen nothing is happening. It displays a PICTURE that is rendered at your windows refresh rate (in this case 60Hz aka 60 FPS).
Good luck mate.
@icedoctor thanks for replying and the link but i have downloaded the latest catalyst was first thing i tried
@easypeasy thanks for ur response i appreciate I am not going to have great performance but would like it to be a steady performance would what u said account for it goin up qnd down every few seconds regardless of what i am doing?
Have you double checked that SLI is enabled from the NVIDIA Control Panel ?. As the GTX 295 is 2xGTX260’s I believe you should have this checked. If you update the NVIDIA drivers it usually turns SLI off ( well it does for me anyway). As a note: SLI does work for the game as both my GTX 460’s use the same resource whilst playing. SLI is just not perfectly optimised yet.
All 4 cores are used on My PC ( old Q9550) and the game is CPU intensive. How did you work out that it was only using 10-20% cpu. If you ALT-TAB out the game to Task Manager then you will not see the true CPU usage at that point in time. You will need to look at the four CPU’s history graph under the Performance tab to get an idea.
Hope that helps.
For many users using a higher GPU than HD 6850 or GTX 460 with a decent 3ghz+ dual CPU it’s ok being unsatisfied by the poor perfs. But for many other running mobile chipset and an old cpu running under 3ghz, come on, what did you execpt ? : /
I’m not asking for high FPS like in BF3, but if it drops below 30FPS i’m seriously not impressed.
Thermaltake Level 10 GT Case
I can see your problem…
Really? why? because of the Case? lol
That case is freakin awesome, and everything inside is super cooled while playing any game…
