As much as i would love to see mag make the gold league, as that’s what a majority of them want. It would be so good to see sbi make it to gold and get roflstomped for 7 weeks and then implode lol.

The way I view it from a Mag point of view, it’s a win/win either way. Though I’d much rather have the good fights than watching SBI implode, and everyone around here knows how much I would like to see that happen…

I am not sure which is gonna be best for Maguuma…gold or silver. But I have enjoyed Mag actually caring more for PPT than we normally do in an effort of get gold. I think a lot more care than admit it…it is just the ‘cool’ thing to do and talk about how much you do not care. Especially when you are just parroting something that a popular commander said.

I get PPT does not equal skill. But if Maguuma really does not care, then there would be no need to ever capture anything. Why not just stand in a blob in the bloodrust ruins and wait for open field fights? Or maybe the windmill at one of the south camps? GvG fights in open field pretty much mean nothing. My as well just que up for spvp. If you aren’t taking towers and keeps, why even bother going to WvW?

Does that mean I don’t want fun, balanced fights? Of course not. But those happen like 1 out every 20 fights seems like. I doubt there will be many good fights in the gold league. Though silver might be too easy, it might be more fun to gather ‘free’ loot bags than die over and over and have to spend a lot of coin on repairs.

I hope all these commanders pushing for gold will be out playing WvW as much as they have been the past couple weeks even if all 4 maps are 95% enemy colors. But I’d bet a lot of them won’t be on as much if they keep getting steamrolled by 4 times their numbers every time they take something. They might regret getting what they wish for.

No GvG involving a maguuma guild has happened outside of NA prime that I know of, so for the rest of those 18-20+ hours ppt is the main attraction of fights. You take the bad guy’s towers, the bad guys will come to fight you.

Meh, there has always been some pride in holding our own BL against all odds.

But otherwise, I think most just like taking things to bait more fights. Back in the old pre-AC buff, pre-weird matchups, I used to care a lot about PPT, upgrading, etc, but back then we played the same servers all the time. There was a lot more pride in beating them.

Now I really just want to fight and get better at fighting. Spending 2-3 of my 4-5 hour raid with a long siege is just not worth my time anymore.

I respect you Johje, but it’s these new guys that don’t want to fight SoR and don’t want to go to gold.
As it is, I’d rather have a server that’s “all in” and never plays for second.

Playing GW2 is really not hard.

I know there are some players that really shine and make a class stand out in GW2. Let’s say they are the top 10%. They are really in the middle 80% and just too egotistical to realize it. I know I am in the middle somewhere and know I am not in the top 10% on any class. Wish more Maguuma players would realize that. Get tired of hearing in mumble how great they think they are and how ‘bad’ everyone else is. I know it is hard to believe, but having some humility is a generally seen as a positive trait.

Same with large guilds. Think because you have a large guild that is WvW oriented you don’t have any bad players in it? And everyone in small guild, or guilds that aren’t focused as much on WvW, are all ‘bad’? Please! <rolls eyes>. So darn ridiculous.

Be interesting to see how well some of these ‘elite’ commanders, who are wishing to “purge the bads,” do in WvW in the gold league when they have even less people following them than they had the past few weeks. After the ‘bads’ transfer’ or quit logging into WvW, and they have 1/3 their usual numbers following them, how fun is it going to be fighting a server like say, TC? Bet they will wish they had more of those ‘bads’ following them. Most of those so called bads are just average players who are just like them. And of course they will never admit it…even too themselves!

Having superior numbers is greater than strategy, tactics, or skill most of the time in WvW.
(Yes I know sometimes you win the 2 vs 1 fights with less…those are the ones you tend to remember. Just remember those you did not)

The fact that we have essentially no bandwagoners on Mag and have general consensus to go for Gold league despite knowing we’re outclassed makes me think the ends justified the means in this case.

Yeah Mag is a harsh place to play, but that’s why there are 20+ other servers in NA that ppl can transfer to if they want.

Mag is about a community, not about an individual, and we’d much rather be faced with a 15v40 with 15 people we know we can count on rather than a 30v40 with 15 of the people around us rallying our opponents over and over and over again.

I like mag because it’s friendly and everyone is cute

Pretty sure every server’s voice comms is filled with comments of “man server X is so full of bads!” and “we’re wiping these idiots with smaller numbers over and over”. I don’t think it’s a quality unique to Mag. Nobody is going to say anything about how badly they just got crushed in a 1v1, sorry but that’s just how people are.

And anyway it’s not so much that the bad players will be transferring, rather that people with a bad attitude (i.e. leaving when the going gets rough) will be. Better to lose fairweathers at the bottom of Gold than to absorb them at the top of Silver, bottom line.

And, there’s the fact that the players in silver are better than the players in gold. Gold will offer endless opportunities to fight larger groups, but if you ever want a challenge from an equal number of opponents, I doubt you’ll have much luck.

Please show me where the good players are in Silver league. All I’ve seen is wall after wall of AC fire and 20-man guild groups omni-blobbing because we wipe them once or twice open-field. Almost the entirety of the GvG community is now in Gold league (FA I still consider you T2 because ily long time and SBI is going to implode spectacularly soon), so there’s really no point in being in Silver.

People don’t seem to understand that Mag really doesn’t care about winning. We want to sit in a keep and farm JQ blobs for hours on end, GvG good guilds, and have fun. None of that is in Silver league.

Another good reason for gold league: More enemies = more bags

I can make tons of bags/badges/gold matched up vs TC or JQ as seen in our latest matches with them.

Matching up vs Ebay or Kaineng i’m lucky to coax them out of towers for 20 bags a night. I don’t understand why people would think these servers are fun matchups

Now that the weekday projections are starting to show, it’s almost certain Mag is going gold and SBI silver. Just factoring in Monday, SBI’s point projections already dropped around 3K while Mag rose 2K and there’s no reason this pattern would not continue to increase in our favor as the week progresses.

I think your percentages are probably a little off, but I agree with your point. There is a definitely a false sense of skill from people who follow the good pug commanders. The average level of skill in gw2 is rather low, and the skill-cap for large zergs (against even numbers or lesser numbers) is very low if you aren’t commanding. When you approach fighting numbers 50-70% greater than your own then the skill of individual players starts to matter much more (although still not as much as group composition) and the skill of the commander becomes critical.

Most 1vX fights that people love to brag about are either against uplevels or people with team builds just trying to make it back to the zerg. Yes, there are some excellent players that can fight reasonably competent people running roamer/gimmick builds 1v2 1v3. Solo roaming in gold will probably suffer a little as map coverage at all hours improves, but probably not enough to discourage those that are great at it.

Large guilds will be happy that the fairweather rallybait isn’t following them around, although there will likely be less pug commanders so maybe those numbers won’t drop as much as they think. I think a lot of people have a romantic notion of fighting massively outnumbered in the open field against endless zergs. The current T2.5-T3.5 reality is, even if you wipe and demoralize a numerically superior force a few times they are just going to turtle up in a tower eventually. The reality for silver outside of reset is, how do I get these bags when they are sitting in LA. The reality in gold is, they call their queue and try to sandwich you in the open field. If this doesn’t work a couple times, then they go into the tower (probably one that we are supposed to own).

Absolutely. If you see someone doing something wrong or something you think they can do in a better way, try to help them in a constructive manner. If they refuse to listen to friendly advice and continue to do things that just don’t make any sense/hurt the server then they are fair game. Please consider that unless you are a good commander or a great roamer that advice other than ‘please don’t build 15 golems and walk them into the enemy zerg’ or ‘you really shouldn’t click your endurance bar to dodge’ might be bad.

Maguuma was/is one of the best capping servers. So…Why is playing for ppt not considered skillful? I’d think being able to manage your forces and properly allocating them throughout 4 different maps requires some skill. Resource management for siege and defense are skills. Sieging a fortified position and holding your back end from being back capped requires quite a bit of skill I’d imagine. In CD, we kinda get tunnel vision on long sieges and not notice our back end getting nailed because we take too long to cap. I’d imagine going on the offensive and holding your defensive end against vastly superior forces is quite a skill. But I guess the new skill meta is to get 20-25 people on teamspeak to stomp 40 or so pugs not as coordinated in TS, come to the defense in nick of time on occasion and claiming victory on mapchat but if you don’t make it, no one needs to know because you were doing other skillful things.

Capturing things gives the excuse to fight. sPvP doesn’t offer the large scale fights that a lot of people playing WvW want so they go to WvW. If WvW was all about siege and keeps then they would remove all the skills from your skill bar and just make it a game of siege/counter siege. Obviously open field fighting is a core part of this game mode.

A teacher can’t teach without a student who wants to learn. Get in mumble, get involved with the community, and ask questions. Find a guild that is actively involved.

The patch bug is really highlighting all the classy people.

A heads up to all of you failhard guilds on CD and FA that are exploiting the mesmer’s fall dmg chaos field glitch….

I have been recording your guilds exploiting and reporting you.

Pretty much, Anet only cares about exploits that affect the economy because more or less all of their revenue comes from gem sales and if players can get free gold so that they don’t need to buy gems then that is fatal to their business model. They couldn’t care less about a few people getting 1.5s repair costs because a Mesmer skill was broken for a few hours. Not to mention their WvW population is kitten poor compared to release and continues to decline, perma-banning all the people that used this would guarantee its death.

What’s not gold about it? Badges and badges then drowning in a glorious never ending sea of red with some more badges on top. CBF with minor details like PPT. That just slows the badges/hr.

Anyway good fights against VR in the gvg tonight. You guys run a really interesting comp and it’s a good thing we had more than a few looks at it over the week because it would have completely destroyed us (and did outside of gvg) if we had matched on fri, sat, sun.

It’s definitely the only time I think we’ve adjusted our entire comp for one guild in a gvg.

e: Oh man I almost forgot. Whoever dropped that moamorph on me in round 1 or 2 when I popped book. HOLY POOP that was so clutch.

I think it’s pretty plain where it’s coming from. Anytime someone from RET fights me, they get destroyed, now they are chasing me around for extended periods, adding on fights every chance they get, etc. I mean it’s fine; it’s been a while but I’ve been matched against FA before, I know what to expect from you guys. Just laughing at it a bit.
