And besides, for whatever reason, you’re chosing to use a military lingo specific meaning for the concept of the word grunt, rather than the broader english speaking world meaning.
You mean the most common use of the word?
go to google.com, and type:
define: grunt workI think you’ll find it enlightening, as it has absolutely nothing to do with how the term grunt is used in military parlance.
First thing I found.
Definition of ‘Grunt Work’
An expression used to describe thankless and menial work. Grunt work can also refer to jobs that lack glamour and prestige or are boring and repetitive. This term may be derived from the slang term “grunts,” which was used to describe low-ranking American soldiers during the Vietnam war.
See the part about being derived from.
had fun in YB Se tower, too bad you had to blob us to get it back >.>

The derivation is irrelevant to it’s common usage. And I used it quite correctly to describe menial labor. But that menial labor is kitten important in the game of wvw.
Iono I just play WvW for fun. Rather leave playing with numbers for work.

Where the word comes from and how most people view it, is a big deal. Grunts were known to do the bull kitten tasks, hence grunt work. However, they were on the front lines doing the fighting.

More like “Welcome to Yak’s Bend Borderland, hope you like disconnecting constantly”
Being hosted on a terrible server is the best borderland defense IMO.
We don’t zerg & we don’t care about ppt but here you are on a thursday night trying to flip everything like crazy, so who was the guys who named a few guilds & said they were the voice of Magumma? sorry dude my post got reported and deleted with yours anyways can you see what’s happening? this is hilarious.
Someone got zergbusted.
QQ’ing about getting zerged is so 2012, move on buddy.
I encourage you to have a little more context before replying.

Formulating reply full of context I’ll get back to you, siege monkey.
“Insult” out of context as well… sigh you should just stop.. you’re terrible at this :/

seriously, good fun!

Props to [TE] for being the only guild across either server to actually step up and GvG. lol @ [One] for canceling GvG with us twice. YB we’ll even let you build arrow carts for your GvGs if you want, I know it’s the only way you can figure out to play!!

My heart pumps every time I’m on a cannon and see a red dot 1500 range away. I fire a shot, he dodgerolls. He stares into my soul and confronts my existence. Realizing he didn’t stand a chance, he walks off.

I would be less upset if the rest of yak’s would stand and fight in keeps after we break their siege down. Come on, go out with a fight at least!

Some people report lagging out every time they attempt to go to YBBL, others just have random disconnects during heavy combat. It’s a weird bug.

Well, since, like most rational offensive teams, you try to hit our keeps, when we’re not in them. You shouldn’t be surprised there aren’t too many there when you do succeed in taking them :P

Yeah, that’s why after we bother to treb down your siege and breach inner your server just waypoints instead of fighting.

Talk to AciD! Feel free to come on our TS! We’d love a chat.
GG YB….Can’t fight us to get to the PAPER DOOR tower, so you bring your omegas. Just…..wow.
I can’t speak for the rest of Yak’s Bend, but I don’t play to fight, I play to win. And I play for PPT. I also play for crushing the enemy’s morale whenever possible, since Anet has not seen fit to even provide a hint of fairness in the baseline population. How many of you logged out after that? :P If even 1? A total success, in my eyes.
I play to fight! AciD loves fights, but 12 of us staring into the sea of Ark don’t like donating bags. A better strategy might be for Ark to all rep random tags to appear as a cruddy pug group. You’d bait a lot more fights than a 25+ guild group, which is assumed to be coordinated.

Well we spent a good hour fighting under a sea of arrow carts in mag hills, so it’s not like the tower was empty. Finally get a treb up to clear out those icky arrow carts, and then everyone leaves

Unfortunately I don’t think we have time to get to 30, like the last time we faced SBI. That was some epic PvF, and to think, it was my first one

The only mag hills battle I was in where the keep fell, was composed of about 6 YB keep guards, vs 30+ mags escorting about 20 Omega golems. The outer gate melted in 5-10 seconds, the inner gate melted in 5-10 seconds, and the Lord’s room was taken before even a single reinforcement had arrived. It was amazingly well done, we occasionally pull off golem rushes like that, but on average they aren’t so well coordinated.
These threads are so amazing. All we get on our side is “you guys can only blob” which got old like a year ago. We still want to fight neo-SBI!

Hit Diviniya up any time we’re not frantically trying to defend stonemist from two blobs and I’m sure we can cut our numbers down to match
Ark, we’d love to 10v10 you. We still owe one to AoN, but as I mentioned earlier, we had a pretty hilarious and crippling temp-ban to work through. As the new matches avail to us, we should be facing each other soon.

You are not prepared for what is about to happen
So if YB’s rank becomes higher than Mag’s, how hard will YB tank in preparation for Season 2 to remain in Silver League and win a non-existent reward?
I mean, it was pretty hilarious when you tanked to get into old Silver League before the shuffle, and then frantically tried to re-gain your rank in the space of a week to get bandwagoned.

Ok, hi everybody, history major here. And not just any history, my friends, General European history (everything up to WW I). Now, my focus was mostly in the Modern Ages, but I was also quite fascinated in the development of European military strategy from the 100-years war until the Crimean War.
Now, GW2, much as most of the multitude of RPG games out there is based on a mediaeval fantasy; with knights and their quests, with kings and queens defending their realm, with great tourneys to measure individual skill. But also, with keeps and moats and rolling hills, and roaming bandits – some of them good (Robin Hood) and some of them bad.
Now, mediaeval warfare was limited to a very particular season for a reason: war could only be had when it wasn’t muddy – so either in the summer when the roads were clear enough that supply carts didn’t get stuck in mud; or (although this mostly applies for Scandinavia and Russia; not so much Western Europe) in the winter when the ice and snow roads would permit fast movement. Now, this doesn’t apply very much to an online game because, let’s face it: none of our toons require daily meals and a place to sleep at night; and hence the carts and carts of tents, food, firewood etc. that an army of those times would be forced to drag along; therefore being contained to the passable roads only. It’s marked a little bit in the dolyak supply system, but… well, it’s a stretch. If anything, the dolyak system reminds me more the military logistics during the Crimean War, when they first thought to use trains for delivering supply, thus making the army itself much more mobile. On the downside, it also made the trainlines vulnerable to sabotage, and the convoys would often need to be escorted.
Back to mediaeval tactics: Once the army was together, it would set out onto the field. But where to? Normally, an army didn’t want to confront another army unless reasonably sure of an outcome. Nobody wants a phyrrean victory, because even if you win, your losses will be so great, that were you to be engaged by another party you’d surely lose. Plus, it leaves a gaping hole in population as a whole, thus making your overall military strength smaller. Although, again, in an online game your toon is never permanently dead; so going against an evenly matched group on the open field has much less doomsday effect.
So, back in the day, a military campaign would be a fight for castles – cut the enemy off from their castles and the villages around the castles, where most of the supplies were stored, make them starve on the field and then attack. WvW is built up in the same logic: capture the castles and hold them to win.
Open field battles are good only for pretty paintings and stories of glorious charges, but wars are won by sound logistics and strategy.

FYI the correct way to have fun in WvW is to walk around in a dolyak tonic, every other way is wrong.

hehe, true. I blame my English skills. When I learned it, we called it Phyrrose võit.

Meh. It’s all fun in doses. The game would actually be terribly boring if there were no keeps, towers, camps, or supply to increase versatility or make you think about where you are going, and it was all just one big deathmatch, which is a simple repetitive mode out of the 90s game scene. People can do that in sPVP and that mode is dying…
The interest in WvW for most is the week long nature of the war, not just running from spawn aimlessly into people over and over. YB would have never beat SBI in silver playing like that. And having beat them like we did was a lot more rewarding, more so by the reaction on these forums, than just getting some more bags. Because they always give bags, but they don’t always lose when they thought they were going to win.
Moreover, Anet gives not one whit for class or meta balance in WvW, from the 1v1 level up to GvG. Heck, they can’t even balance sPVP. So its not exactly some great skill playing field. FPS is where you find that.
Seems to me if one wants to “just play for fights”, they would want to play opposite Maguuma, which loves to do that, instead of just all go there and then wonder why they can’t find anyone that to play against in the same narrow style.
But nobody is going to convince anyone else though how to best enjoy the game. YB and Mag are like oil and water.

Spoken like someone that has absolutely no clue how open field fighting works. Oddly enough 15v15 leads to some of the most unique and balanced fights in the game.
I don’t know what YB’s ultimate goal is in this game. If they want to be a solid Tier 3 server then their playing style works. If they want to play against servers that can actually defend and respond to their structures, i.e. most T2 servers or higher, then they’re going to have to learn how to do something in the open field beyond roll over and die since everything they try to take will actually have resistance.

If open field was fair and balanced, it would have equal representation across all classes, and I don’t believe it ever has. Instead you get majority the same 2 to 4 classes at best depending on a meta shift.
At lower numbers its certainly even worse. Small group and roaming. There is a reason why Mag small groups are about 75% nothing but Mez and Thieves. Real diversity there. Build wars is a poor way to balance. So yeah, any interesting big group combat seems by pure luck and not by design from them.

As for what YB desires, can’t speak for that, but I’d guess just to have challenging competitive matches. I think we have about 2 guilds that frequently even can put out 15 or 20 people. So winning and losing is about server wide effort, teamwork and preparation. YB population layout is not conductive to multiple 20-25 man organized combat groups, and nor do you need that to succeed in WvW.
This mode is about getting 80 people to work together, if not maybe several hundred, not just 20, and not just one guild. People should lobby for their own game mode if they just want GvG style fights. But that’s not this.

[TE] is the only guild that gets +5 internet respects this week. Thank you for the gvg and then the rematch request last night.
Legit sick of just one pushing all of SBI and YB zergs. Like, how many times did you have to repair your armor from throwing yourselves at a swisscheese stone mist for 2 hours?
Swaguuma native
Wow, YB has become even more stacked than SBI & Maguuma :\ ..
I’m sure you two are having fun farming them like crazy tho.
2 YB die to me 1v2 and ballista creep from SE Camp all the way toward EK so that they can walk Yaks. This is this matchup in a nutshell. Godawful players who try to handicap themselves with siege.

If you cancel GvG’s for not having the right players on and then go talk kitten about another guild that did the same thing it makes you look kittened. Accept [AGG]‘s next GvG or don’t bother talking kitten at all please Tsarazi.
