Commanders, regardless of class, are a target to any organized group for obvious reasons, and any decent 4 man should be able to drop one with a target assist regardless of what class he/she plays. It’s an expected hazard of choosing to tag up.
if it’s an expected hazard then why handicap yourself by playing one of the squishiest classes? Commanders should either be warrior or guardian…
An interesting take on what a commander should be. You do realize built/played correctly that most classes can be just as solid/tanky as a guardian or warrior, right? I have also seen both the before mentioned classes melt under focus fire just as fast as a thief. Although an interesting perspective as to what class a commander “should” be. Heck, a heavily bunkered necro is a far tankier choice than either guardian or warrior due to a huge base health pool and DS. You also need to take into account commanding style into whichever class you choose for commanding. Any player, regardless of the class they play, can be effective as a commander. Coming to the forums declaring that only 2 classes should command is absurd and uneducated.

Two things wrong with this paragraph.
Individual stability uptime doesnt matter AT ALL when commanding a zerg. Its a ZERG, everyone and their mother is a guardian running shouts.
Second, guardians have no mobility, either.
I guess their easy access to swiftness and leap on greatsword 3 don’t count…
Swiftness is an easily applied boon, and this is in a zerg setting. So that point is null.
Assuming Staff + X shout healway build for zerging, they’re probably going to be running gs or hammer, so they MIGHT have access to one of the lowest distance “Leaps” in the game. If someone escapes death solely by using leap of faith, their opponent must have been missing a few fingers. Or brain cells.
You didn’t have to take the portal from the mes that glitched in IOM… TY for that.
I can guarantee you, IoM talked it out a bit ago and we don’t do the mesmer gate glitch anymore. If we did, it’s possible it’s someone who wasn’t aware of that and for that, we apologize. Can’t speak for the rest of ET though, unfortunately.

Most likely the guards destroyed them. Even then, we must have one beast of a mesmer to be hiding in there for that long. Either way, it was an IoM thing and we don’t take shortcuts. Sorry if it just came out of the blue to you.
What cornchips said was what instantly raised my suspicion – no walls down, no rams at gates. But I guess it’s entirely possible the guards had destroyed the rams by the time I checked, in which case I’m just ranting because I’m mad.

No, it’s cool! We can understand that that stuff happens. If the situation would’ve been reversed, we would’ve been confused as hell. Just happy we could clear that up!
Duels happening right now at AR WM
I’m getting pretty tired of these ET mesmers trying to get ressed through gates, in an hour window I saw two intentionally try to die as close to a gate as they could. Overwhelmingly lame.

the problem is that tankiness isn’t the only trait a commander needs it also needs:
mobility (this is not 25% movement bonus this refers to leaps and shadowsteps…)
self sustain (lots of heals)
and group support for those pushes in choke holds
and some light CC is good too^ find a class that can do that better then a guardian or warrior and then you’ll have an argument.
certain classes can do things better then others and that’s just something you have to accept if you wanna get better at the game…you gotta learn to play your role according to your class.
Is that a joke? Necro’s spectral walk gives like 40seconds of swiftness. Also ds #2 skill teleports the necro and so does destruction of flesh worm. Plenty of mobility.

Well it was an Iom group you just couldn’t really see them. I talked to a few right after it happened saying there was a mes portal inside. I didn’t take the picture of the mesmer that glitched in because I was setting up siege to defend the tower and I didn’t want the 20 people who followed the port to stomp my face. Good call though…

Someone from ET does, we had more deliberate dying at water gate action at Bay yesterday. This time it was the thief who purposely died at the gate and the Mesmer whose corpse stayed nearby. I didn’t catch or record the guild since this is not a reportable offense or cheat, it’s just tacky.

You know, I always thought ET were classy opponents, but I guess I need to revise my opinion a bit. Just now, AR lost a fully upgraded bay, because of ET exploiters.
The keep had no holes in the walls since being fortified, and unless you had a mesmer inside hiding for a day, there was no legit way to get in. We had defenders all across the outer wall up to the minute it got flipped.
I hope the action was just from a couple of bad apples, and does not reflect on the attitude of the entire server. Resorting to exploits to try and win is just low.
I might be entirely mistaken of course, and you were legitimately ninja, in which case feel free to correct me and explain how you managed to flip t3 bay without taking down any of the outer walls.
It was flipped from the north, that’s where the “hole” was.
We found your rams in inner, we found nothing on outer.
Most likely the guards destroyed them. Even then, we must have one beast of a mesmer to be hiding in there for that long. Either way, it was an IoM thing and we don’t take shortcuts. Sorry if it just came out of the blue to you.
Someone from ET does, we had more deliberate dying at water gate action at Bay yesterday. This time it was the thief who purposely died at the gate and the Mesmer whose corpse stayed nearby. I didn’t catch or record the guild since this is not a reportable offense or cheat, it’s just tacky.
Again, IoM does not do cheap mesmer tricks. If I have to keep repeating that, I will but it gets tiresome. I was in on the group that took Bay and there was no mesmer. Aside from that, that supposed mesmer would have needed to be in the keep all day. I don’t know anyone with the time and patience to do that, especially assuming that your server would have been running in and out of there during the day. Your Bay was taken fairly. I’m sorry you can’t seem to accept that but it was. We don’t cheat – plain and simple.

Look we’ve said it before and hopefully for the last time IOM will no longer use the Mesmer revive trick anymore. Wether anyone else from Eredon Terrace dose it is not our say, we act on our own code of honor where as others may disagree and use the glitch. So from this point on if you lose anything from IOM know that it was your fault for we took it fairly and maybe you guys should pay more attention. Till next time
I mean that is apart of the game, iv seen your servers do this mesmer trick plenty of times going dead at a gate or watergate so that your mesmer can be revived and then port people in from the other side. If your going to cry we wont do it anymore but at no times have we ever glitched or hacked to get into a tower or keep that means you need to sweep better and watch for mesmers at gates or watergate, this glitch has been around since the beginning Anet has not fixed it and it has been used by multi servers and multi guilds, so I would thank you if you’d stop calling my guild out on some BS glitch that has been around since the start take it up with Anet and the fellow guilds on your own servers!

You’re pretty darned good! A small group of us were just chatting about the (possible) upcoming hammer warrior nerfs and we were theorycrafting a condi build. Then you rolled in and showed me how to do it right.

WHO CARES!!!!!!!! I’ve seen AR and Ferg do the same thing. I’ve seen GoM, Yak, etc. do this were all frustrated about this glitch, but pointing out Mesmer from ET or any server doesn’t help. If you want to help make a separate post to arena net in the glitch forums. I know your not bashing our server in particular but this stuff is just annoying.
Thank you to the 30 or so ET zerg that kept coming back to try and take bay in ET BL!!! Good fights but glad you realized you weren’t beating us after 4 wipes! Respect for not running like most servers do!

It flipped 30mins ago… Siege is useless if there is no people to man it.
We had a lot of siege at bravost tower yesterday through the whole day… We kept FC and AR out of it even while it was paper (The first attack on Bravost after I sieged it up happened while we had only decoy oil upgraded). And we kept it for the course of 11 hours (when i finally logged off). Right now bravost is a paper green tower… Just as everything else on our EB corner.
Speaking of the battle for bravost: [yarr] GTFO umberglade willya?

It just seems an overall huge disparity both in population and in coverage between ET and FC/AR. But its all good because we can run our 5 man group without having an ally zerg jumping in the fight… and we can try lead our pugs at times too, like when we ninja’d SM yesterday and then farmed FC zerg for 30 minutes straight and even got them back to their keep.. then we moved on to our borderlands since another commander asked for help and lost everything since there was nobody to defend.

I don’t think population is the issue (at least against AR). ET has the bad habit of putting everyone in the same place, leaving everything else wide open… EB is the major example of that: We’re constantly with outmanned buff (People are usually on ETBL), we rarely get help there (because someone is attacking the southern camp of our borderland so ETBL can’t spare troops), and everytime we get a commander on EB that’s not me, it simply walk away back to ETBL after flipping a few paper towers (sometimes even without saying to people on map chat).
The situation we constantly face is very frustrating sometimes…

We were hoping AR would help us keep you at Bay but they must have left?? because then you pushed us out with 30+ and when we regrouped in Garrison lord’s room nobody was tapping the gate so I’m pretty sure your WP was open the 2nd half of the fight which led to our eventual wipe.
I recalled dropping rams at south bay gate and instantly having them destroyed by a treb or mortar from inside. Then I dropped a treb in vale and it was instantly destroyed by a treb – the treb didn’t even miss once. And you had a treb on the south hill at Garrison that can hit water gate which I’ve never seen before, but effective for sure. And inner NE garri had ballistas and catapults and the works.
Just so much siege and people who know how to use it :-/

That is true actually, before most of us left Bay to defend Garrison we wiped some AR one last time but i was nearly sure they’d comeback and then take Bay undefended but they didn’t not sure why.

Jek, we’ve been defending some REALLY crazy stuff in our BL all week so it’s really more than just watching the “south camp” as you’ve described. There have been many times were AR was hitting something with their zerg while Ferg has simultaneously been hitting something else with their zerg. Sometimes, they even hit the same thing! It’s intense and honestly it takes everyone we can muster.
With that being said, you’re doing an excellent job in EB and I commend you for holding it down as well as you have. Kudos to your, sir.
Additionally, I’d like to thank Master Junior. I believe he also spends a ton of time in EB and has, just recently I think, been spending some time in the ET BL, and done really well.
Both of you guys catch a lot of grief by not being on TeamSpeak (you’ve just recently started spending more time on there though) but your contributions to our server should not go unnoticed. Great job to both of you guys. I sincerly appreciate your efforts.

I’m not speaking of this week specifically, this situation been hitting us ever since i came back in august. And now even worse when the leagues started.
The ‘southern camp watching’ part is a jab on the many times I’ve asked for help to protect our fully upgraded overlook (over the last weeks) and I’ve received responses saying that they were fighting over the southern towers or that they were trying to protect our paper hills that was flipped before, or simply Home Borderland is more important than EB (this one infuriates me).
And because of some ‘issues’, unfortunely I won’t be leading EB anymore (There is info about that on our forum). Although I might still be around.

It was on AR BL…right at the exit of ET spawn. Originally we were at SE tower. We seen orange swords at SW tower so we went straight there instead. On our way we caught 3 omegas prancing around with some strays escorting them to who knows where. After killing those we continued on to SW tower and found two more omegas exiting ET spawn while a few ET attacked the SW tower gate. Killed those two omegas as well. THEN two MORE omegas came rolling out of the spawn and we downed them just before making it within range of legendaries.
Cant think of any reasons other than trolling or complete ignorance by a new player too excited to get in a golem lol.
