I really wonder how many people they assign to work on the Gem Store… 20? 50? 100?

One look at WvW / SPvP and 100 people for the Gem Store doesn’t seem that farfetched. Look at how much it gets updated and how often.

If you like this game and care about it doing well at all you wouldn’t want people to leave or dislike it. It’s bad enough having RL friends who dislike it and won’t play. I’d prefer the game to improve and be able to vastly raise in population.

You’re right. Being nice doesn’t need an “argument”. Mean behavior should always be called out and I acknowledge that you’re not intending to condone the mean responses. Players are rightly stressed and frustrated by the bugs with the rewards. Take it out on Anet, not on other posters trying to be nice.

Don’t get me wrong, i am not going crazy about it like some – the sad thing is, i actually expected their to be issues. The problem is that this is not the first time Anet have released something and have broken something.

People are still waiting (In vein…) for rewards from season 1 and they some how went and made things NOT better but WORSE :/

We were lied 2 times, they didn’t deliver once, than they give us 2nd date and didn’t deliver again, in my book that is called unprofessional, when i order food that the Waiter says it will arrive in 5 min i wait, when he says there is a problem and it will arrive in 10 min sure ill be angry but ill wait , when he comes and says oh i don’t know where your food went , ill walk up and leave, just like i did here, i have not logged in for 4 days now and counting i urge you to do the same, we have to send a msg here that this is not ok, next time instead of pixels it might be 1000 gold that you have won or a trip to Bahamas or whatever.

So… Let me see if I got this right…

Jessica says:
“We have identified the issue and are working on a solution to distribute the proper tournament chests to all who should have earned them. We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this.”

Then Mark comments a couple of pages later with:

“Hey everybody, the team has a lead they are working on. Please hang tight. We haven’t forgotten about you. We will post more information when things are more certain.”

What’s going on here? I thought it was clarified what the issues was? And yes I know that he corrected himself and said it was a lead towards the identified issue, but I find it rather strange that he “forgot” to mention that in his first post, when they know how angry this forum is.

It’s really sad to see how this game is going down the drain, and when there’s a problem with the gemstore or their “baby” the Living Story part, it gets a fix within 24 hours. The WvW on the other hand is something they constantly fail to address, with bugs that have been there since the launch of the game.

What’s even sadder, is that after a 9 week tournament, where they had all the time in the world to check out bugs and catches, they still managed to not get it right. Don’t be mistaken, I couldn’t care less about the reward, but it’s the whole “Meh, we’ll fix it when we have the time” attitude they show towards the whole WvW part of the game.

But then again, as mentioned before in this thread, people will forget about this and be just as suprised next time, when anet screws up and just throws the whole thing out of the window and hopes that it will be forgotten (Season 1 rewards).

This is really all you need to know. I know I’m beyond beating a dead horse at this point…..but if this issue with WvW rewards preventing us from purchasing Gems, this issue would have been fixed last weekend.

90% of players received chests and are waiting for the ability to get their rewards.
10% of players received incorrect chest or no chest.

Let’s upset 100% of our community by screwing EVERYONE while we sort out the minority. Either scrap the current tickets and re-issue chests, or allow players that currently have the correct chests to access the rewards.

We constantly see that Living Story and Gem Store issues are fixed within several hours. But when it comes to WvW, they take up to several weeks.

Or we can sit around for them to fix it, like they fixed the season 1 rewards. It’s hilarious, that every time, we complain and moan of the forums, yet we buy from the gemstore and give them money for not fixing the part of the game we care about.

Yep. This would have been fixed quickly had it been something that stopped them earning money. Because that is all they care about at the end of the day, it clearly isn’t actually TESTING the content before releasing it that is for sure.

We get the same shoddy work all the time, they release something and something breaks or bugs out IF its something that stops them getting money it will be fixed in mere hours.

If its something that doesn’t involve buying gems then it might take weeks, that is if it actually gets fixed. I mean they had issues with Season 1 and yet somehow, Anet managed to make it WORSE for season 2…

Amazing work Anet, keep it up. You will lose all your customers the way you are going. This shoddy performance from you guys time and time again WILL be what kills this game.

Eternal Battlegrounds borderland is laggy as hell too. WvW is dead and since I only WvW and occasionally sPvP, I’m done with the game. sPvP isn’t enough to keep me playing. I am a natural player vs player gamer. I like the competition and the unpredictability of it. WvW merges the benefits of sPvP and the wide maps of a PvE-like game. Sadly, ANet focuses only on PvE. We gave them a chance. Last year. We were relatively patient and quiet after season one. And still no fix. Now, we don’t want a redux. We want our stuff. But then, if you read enough of the thread to judge us, you’d already know all that, so I guess that makes you just as ignorant (if not more) one way or the other.

And to avoid being off topic, can we have an in-depth update tomorrow? Even if there’s no fix, I’m sure a lot of us would feel a little bit better if we got an ETA and some more news. I appreciate the previous posts, but as I’ve stated before, they didn’t feel very reassuring. And I know you guys are just the messengers, so I know you can’t tell us what you don’t know, but if it’s in your power, please request something to share with us.

I would just give everyone 500 tickets, enable rewards vendor to draw a line under it.

Anet can then figure out the bug in there own time without keeping there players waiting for weeks, months on end…

You will get some jealous kittens qq’ing about everyone getting 500 tickets, even through they will get 500 tickets but the moderators can lock/delete/infract those threads until the jealous kittens give up, like they usually do.

Keep in mind that the bug is rather non-game breaking even though it is a bit annoying, and as such, it might very well not be considered a priority one issue if something more urgent comes in.

Well, finally something you said that really contributes to the discussion. You normally sound like a fan-boy which makes it really difficult for me to take you serious. But you are right. It is entirely possible that ArenaNet does not see this bug as game breaking. And to be honest: It isn’t. It is rather annoying but it does not break the game.

What annoys me most about this issue is the communication. I understand that ArenaNet does not want to give an estimation about the resolve time. As that will lead to even more uproar in the forum if they do not make it. And it is much easier as a developer to just not communicate to your customers. Common practice in most companies and to be honest I do it myself sometimes too.

As a company ArenaNet should really get their PR and Development on the same line. Several days after Spring Season finished but before they solved the bug with the rewards they publish on their site that Spring Season is finished. Or you make an PR announcement about the end of the season right after it finishes or you wait until the rewards are ready to be send. Now the message was a kick in the balls to all players waiting for the reward.

They are losing literally no money by delay in distribution of rewards, while Gem Store issues cut their direct income.

Tbh I think GW2 is still better than most.

With Mike O’Brien in charge and people like Colin Johanson at ANet still running things I think ANet still has a long way to go before it falls of the tree. Having said that if there was a major hierarchical restructure I’d be following closely to see the direction they went.

ANet has changed a lot since its GW1 days.

I literally had a fortune cookie about 2 hours ago say this: "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

I have not played the past several days nor bought anything since the failure here…neither has my 6 other friends. I hope one by one more of us see the light here at the end of the tunnel but outside of 1 real post of “finding the bug” We haven’t heard anything regarding “IF” it is fixable in any way. I get some are reluctant to respond with updates since 90% of these forum people are too belligerent. I’m upset as well but instead of making myself sick over pixels I just move on to greener pastures.

On a still positive note I’m going back to spending my valuable time reading, watching movies or just enjoying extra sleep.

Face the facts we are getting led along with a holographic dangling carrot while they ride our wallets for funding. THE CARROT IS A LIE! I learned this from other mmo’s over the past 15 years that couldn’t deliver on promises.

Well this is disappointing customer relationship management from a-net, I expected more communication on their developments towards fixing the issue, but fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I have stopped playing GW2 for the past couple of days now, log-in every once and awhile to check if I got my chest, notice even guild member numbers are lower than usual as I expect they do the same.

The game has gone stale, it was fun while it lasted, but the real enjoyment I found was in WvW and I’m sure a large portion of the player base does too, but now all I find is skill delay, lag and no entitlement for rewards because A-net can’t forecast bugs with little to no resources for this aspect of the game.

And for that, we thank you.

Well aware of this, and NCSoft would investigate before they shut anything down. I think Arenanet needs a bit of pressure when it comes to WvW. If we let this slide by like we’ve done before, they will continue to neglect it. So if all these people on the forums complaining really want to make a difference, we need to stop giving them money.

We see countless threads on this particular sub, and the only responses we are getting are “We are working on it, hold on tight”, and then radio silence. So voicing your complaints here is useless, because you’ll get the default answer, just like the guy before you. If they start seeing a decline in the money flow, their flute will get another tone.

That makes neither the Diablo III launch nor this screwup any less so.
You’re acting as if such problems are the standard rather than the exception. I know anecdotally of dozens of games who launched either beta or proper without any such hiccups. You’re falsely conflating “normality” (as perceived by you) with “justifiability”. But I could tell you a million things that are “normal” but still not “justifiable”.
Additionally the 1-2+ week existence of a simple rewards bug is much harder to defend than difficulties in launching an ambitious, vast, decade-long project.

“Justifiable” is a subjective concept, and a person’s idea of what should and should not be tolerated can therefore be irrational, therefore it stands to reason that for something to be ‘unacceptable’ it needs some sort of standard. If the issue happens frequently, then it also stands to reason that it could simply be a lot more complicated than some would believe it to be, no?

Besides, who says we need to fix this exact bug? Just let it be dormant if it can’t be fixed timely and instead include a kind of override, like making all previous rewards/tickets junk and issue a second new set to (hopefully) all players.

My entire argument hinges upon the idea that the solutions require a thorough understanding of programming; I cannot say, and from what it seems, neither can you that your proposed solution is as simple as you make it seem. Programming isn’t magic, you can’t just make things happen. However they designed it, the lines of code used, optimization problems etc, can influence the effectiveness of your solution.

Once again an unneeded diversion from the central point and once again you already embed the counterpoint to your own argument within it. With your juxtaposing the loss of human life vs. loss of credit card information you already admit defeat towards your little “wit”. All is, of course, relative. This is a massive screwup in MMO space.

Nice of you to offhandedly suggest my argument is false with nothing to back it up. Let me explain it to you why my definition of a massive screw up is relevant, and rational.

1. The loss of human life is unethical, obviously, therefore the idea of a ‘massive screw up’ is not left to concepts such as overreacting, which is what you and everyone who says this is a massive screw up are guilty of.

2. The loss of credit card information can lead to financial disaster for people, which leads to a reduction in the quality of life. I shouldn’t have to point out the importance of money in a capitalist/mixed economy, nor do I need to explain why a loss of a lot of consumer credit card info would be a massive screw up.

3. These two references were supposed to give a standard to the idea of a ‘massive screw up’ so that the word “massive” wasn’t just some emotional word thrown around that doesn’t say anything about the issue, but instead shows more about the person’s emotional state. Simply put; I’m suggesting that you believing this issue to be a massive screw up to be evidence of you to be overreacting to this issue. Your life is not impacted in anyway whatsoever by this issue. You do not NEED the rewards; hence patience and calm can go a very long way in this particular scenario and can avoid a lot of unnecessary stress. For things that are REAL massive screw ups; this is not usually possible, without moral complacency, particularly because people are in fact, actually affected in a big way, in a bad way; hence the usage of the adjective ‘massive’. Otherwise ‘massive’ is just hyperbole.

I simply do not reckon such a bug takes more than a week to fix, not when they exactly do not have such major and long-lasting screwups often in their “Living World” programme. By far the fastest-fixed bugs, however, receives the Gemstore. Do you still try to rationalize the oh-so-delicate nature of these Gemstore bugs that requires even the “most skilled experts” to fix more than a week?
That is, I wouldn’t understand it if they actually deployed a number of devs to it rather than one single intern.
Why is it (compared from a bug:update ratio) WvW that suffers the most? This is a rhetorical question because the clear answer is lack of dedication and a lack of test servers.

You’d be surprised what a misplaced bracket can do to compiled code. Why do you think writers hire editors? If their expertise meant that they could not make very simple mistakes, editing would be an utterly worthless job. Programming is like writing, but I’m not aware of an equivalent editing practice in programming besides responding to bugs by proof-reading the code for problems like the aforementioned misplaced bracket.

I feel that we have lost track of why we are all so upset in the first place.

I only started WvW at the beginning of Season 1, so I am now a mid-level player, and until this fiasco, was really enjoying the game.

Note that it took me the whole of Season 1 to get my Meta-Achieve finished, but only 4 days this season, and I did note that a lot of newbies were understandably up against the clock for their Meta this season – I really feel for those players – because WvW is a steep learning curve.

I play from a time zone that meant that I normally got on-line early, when there were only a few people on the server, and it is usually up to those few of us to re-take whatever has been rolled over during the night.
This is expensive – because of low numbers – building Golems (usually Omegas) and using superiors of everything, with sometimes as few as 2 of us taking Towers, 3 taking Keeps, just to prevent the score lines from running away.

Sometimes repeating this 3 or 4 times until the rolling Zergs have stopped returning.

Unfortunately – Unlike GW1 Solo Farming, the rewards for taking a Keep with only 3 people are the same as if you zerged in with 30.

Then we get to run the supplies and pay for the upgrades, sometimes in part, but often in full – nearly 50 Silver for Camps, nearly 2 Gold for Towers, and nearly 6 Gold for a Keep, add some defensive siege and split that between 4 or 5 people, and it is still expensive.

I have no idea what some Senior Commanders must have splurged on this competition as a whole, some servers never used anything but Superiors and Omegas in our BL against us!

Everyone chipped in, and no-one complained, because ANET said that we would get really good rewards at the end of the Season – after having publicly acknowledged that the reward system for Season 1 was inadequate.

We would even have the luxury of choosing our own rewards – depending on what we best needed for our favorite character.

Now ANET are pondering with amazement the uproar created after this fiasco?

I agree with you about the over reaction in the forums and it is a well constructed and elegantly written argument – but unfortunately your moan about massive screw up is flawed.

The word ‘massive’ in massive ‘massive screw up’ simply means to have great size and what constitutes great size is entirely contextual. An elephant is massive compared to a mouse and not compared to a whale. The comparison to death and fraud is irrelevant as they exist outside the context of this forum and the issue of WvW. In the context of WvW I would argue that this is a massive screw up compared to most of the other issues being complained about on these very forums.

Well we haven’t.

WvW is a neglected game mode, ANet doesn’t provide ANY staff to work on it, we’ve all known this for a long time. This latest issue is just another massive reminder of how little they care about improving it, evolving it, or giving it a future.

ANet: “Oh, you WvW players want some attention? Here, have this Season 2 to play with.”

Players: “Free transfers? The most stacked server gets the best rewards? ANet please, obviously this is a dumb idea.”

ANet: “Who cares? We sure don’t. Enjoy this attention we’re giving you, it took us 30 minutes to put together, since its all the same stuff as any other day of the week, and nothing has changed, that’s enough WvW focus for 2014.”

Players: “ANet the rewards aren’t working properly… by the way you never fixed Season 1 rewards.”

ANet: “Oh? Sure, we’ll fix it Soon™.”

ALL IS VAIN.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.

Just delete the already given tickets by making those ones useless, give chests to EVERYONE with a new kind of tickets that can be used to buy weapons. This way, those who already got their chests, once or twice, won’t get any advantage of it anymore, and it’ll all be fair!
