The main thing I miss about SAB is playing it with friends. Playing SAB with friends while on skype (especially during tribulation mode) was easily the most entertaining thing I’ve ever done in any online game. When you hear your friends scream as they get killed by a trap or fall while attempting a crazy jump, it’s the best.
If/when it comes back, I highly suggest everyone who thought SAB was “meh” to give it a try in that fashion. You won’t be able to stop laughing.
The conversations usually go something like this:
“Hey look, there’s the checkpoin……… EeeEeeEeeEeeEeeEeee.”
“kitten. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT WAS THERE.”
These characters annoy me to no end. Also, I feel like outside of Destiny’s Edge, ArenaNet can’t make characters of certain races that are actually individuals. This is especially noticeable with Asurans and Norns. Every norn just wants to have ale and kill things. All Asurans constantly talk about is how smart they are. It gets wildly annoying after a while, especially after you are forced to be in a new group with one.
Taimi: I’m too smart and misunderstood, because I’m Asuran!
Brahm: I only know how to solve problems by smashing my club. Also, give me ale!
Please let us interact with some other people as well. I’ve never met a group of NPCs in a game that have annoyed me more.
The bad:
A) Taimi is incredibly annoying. She’s too stereo-typically Asuran. This happens with several of your characters (refer to point B about Norns). She should have a side to her that’s more than “I’m so smart and obsessed with Scarlet’s work, and I’m so misunderstood by all the idiots around me.”
B) I get that Brahm is a Norn, but does he constantly have to be portrayed as being an idiot that only knows how to swing a mace and destroy things? It seems like this is done for every Norn in the game except for Eir. His mom is interesting and not totally linear. Why should he be?
C) The writing for the conversations is terrible. I have a hard time caring about any of these characters because their lines make me feel like I am listening to people LARPing instead of being told an interesting story. This mainly applies to the two ladies in the group. Every other word out of their mouth doesn’t have to be about how deeply they are in love with each other. It really takes away from the story and the current events at hand. It would be okay if it’s from time to time. However, when those two are together, that’s practically all they talk about.
The good:
I like that you added fun, difficult, single-player achievements. That’s really the only thing I like about Living World. If it weren’t for these, then I wouldn’t play at all because I find this content to be some of the worst content I’ve played in any online game.
ArenaNet,
As a huge SAB fan, what disgusts me the most about what you have done is that fans have been asking about SAB for almost a year, but we have had zero responses from devs to give us any kind of update. Even a simple “we’re not sure yet” would have sufficed. However, the fact that you freely tell a magazine that interviews you without any sort of hesitation, that is just betraying your fans.
I could understand if you were announcing some huge new thing to a magazine to generate hype. However, holding out on bad news and telling it to them instead of telling us directly a lot earlier instead of letting us sit around having hope, that’s just not cool.
I agree with a lot of what other people are saying here. If you think it may never come back, you should refund us the money we spent on the infinite continue coin. If you don’t plan to do that, at least bring back the old worlds that were out so that we can make use of the item we paid real money to obtain.
Also, I like all the modes of this game. Living World, Fractals, WvW, Structured, Dungeons, etc. SAB was my favorite mode by a long shot. Please at least re-enable the old SAB.
This may seem ridiculous, but this is really what I want. Allow me the ability to make myself look like a Banana from Storm Top in The Super Adventure Box. I don’t like any of the visual skins that are available in the Gem Store to make my armor or clothes look different. However, a Banana? I’d be all for that. Please make this happen!
If that is too outlandish, then definitely just even more Adventure box goodies the next time the mode comes around. I bought a fair share of SBA goodies, and would like to get more.
Lord Vanquish from the Super Adventure Box should be on this list! I mean, he captured Princess Miya! Scarlet couldn’t even capture the real Queen!
She tried to kill the Queen not capture.
You’re right Lord Vanquish should deserve a spot on list, I apologize for not including him.
You’re right. I only saw that sequence once so I did not remember it correctly. Thank you for humoring me with acknowledging Lord Vanquish.

Congrats! I have finished 4 of the levels myself. I need to finish Pain Cliffs and Storm Top and then I’m done as well! Nice to see someone else that loves Tribulation!

I love this mode. It is incredibly satisfying to beat levels in this mode. I can’t wait for the next patch for SAB!
I loved the challenge of world 2. The assassins are a tough enemy, but manageable. I actually find the blue monkeys in world 1 to be worse.
I really liked the direction of world 2, especially since I don’t play solo, but also with friends. Talking with all my friends on Skype and laughing when we die horrific deaths (like in the Pain Cliffs) is an incredible source of entertainment!
It’s a shame that some people don’t find the challenge fun. However, I grew up with the ridiculously hard NES games and I absolutely love this mode, especially Tribulation (4 levels beaten so far). Can’t wait to see what’s next, ArenaNet.
