Last season thief was trash. I desperately wanted to play thief because I genuinely think it’s the most fun class, but couldn’t because it was just sooo buns.
Now, with the current meta, thief isn’t great, but an experienced thief at least has a chance to win 1v1 vs. most classes.
The skill cap for a thief is very high. Basically, thief is a HARD class to play, but can be very rewarding. When inexperienced thieves complain about how bad (not hard) the class is, thief gets buffed. When thief gets buffed, the not so experienced thieves have a chance to win 1v1s, but the experienced thieves just seem to wreck 1v1s and even some 1v2s. When this happens everyone (understandably) complains about thieves and they get nerfed hard.
So, anet, DON’T BUFF THIEVES! The nature of the high damage/mobility, low defense class in games is that it is hard to play. Keep the skill cap on the class high so people don’t complain about us!
I’m happier playing a mediocre class than not playing it at all

After playing hundreds of hours on my thief and slowly getting nerfed to oblivion, I’ve finally switched classes to mesmer and started to enjoy the game. Sad but true.
Okay, yes, thieves have amazing mobility, I can run away from any class no problem, but decapping points just isn’t fun. I play the game to have fun, and fun to me is fighting, that’s why I picked thief in the first place. We had a fighting chance against every class, and if you played it right, fantastic survivability. If the thief’s role is now “decamping empty points and +1ing team fights” that’s very sad to me. Those don’t take any skill whatsoever in a class I have a lot of skill in.
Like I said, I made a mesmer and whoa PvP just got easy.
Okay, thanks for the insight. Concluding I’m just bad.
So I main d/p thief, and, until recently, I thought I was pretty good at it. Before, I could take down most classes 1v1 most of the time (with the exception of engi, guard, and sometimes warrior), but now, I find myself running from fights so often that I’m thinking about switching my main to mesmer.
My question is are other experienced thieves finding the same thing? Or have I just gotten worse all of a sudden?
Soooo I’m sure there has been a ton of replies and upset players about the recent critical damage update, the whole “10% reduction” when people are complaining it’s actually more. I’m completely fine with the critical damage nerf, if you say it balances the game, I’ll give it a shot, I trust anet knows more about GW2 than I do.
However, what I’m not a fan of is my krytan gear that I bought for real money that is stuck with ferocity, as well as full sets of ascended trinkets on two characters that are also stuck with ferocity, but hey, they’re account bound now! but… now I have two sets of the exact same trinkets…
Like I said, I’m completely fine with changing my build around, possibly trying condition damage (I’m always open to new things!) But I would really appreciate it if we were allowed to switch the stats of the higher level gear we had previous to the update since so much has changed.
