I am honestly baffled by this thread. My experience with the new matchmaking system has been a completely different one as I elaborated in this https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/I-love-the-new-matchmaking thread:
Have been soloqueueing for a long time. I’ve been mostly playing solo for a lot of my games, even way back in vanilla and BC WoW I did almost nothing but exclusively Arathi Basin solo queue.
Before the new system I’d often end up in groups or against groups stacked in one way or another, that’s definitely long gone and that’s great. Makes for a way more balanced experience even though I still groan when I end up having to play a team with guard, engi, warrior, ele and necro. Also I noticed the quality of my teammates significantly improved. Under the old system people wouldn’t read what I typed in text chat and ignore me. Now I’ve moved up the ladder and I’m playing with people who are even telling me themselves what’s going on and what they’d like see me do. Plus people actually knowing how to stomp, prevent stomps, res, utilize Shadow Refuge, etc. It’s awesome. And a lot of the matches I play are really really close calls till the end. 30-40 points difference for the entire match and then 500 to 4xx final score.
So definitely good job on that one from me.
It’s been downright amazing and I’m having more fun with the PvP in GW2 than I ever had before. Before I reached top 500 rank my win rate was a bit shaky, but after that it even improved a good bit. Teammates are actually responsive to advice and… oh well, I already typed it out above no sense in doing it twice. I haven’t really noticed having to play against many fully organized teams as of yet. Most of the time it was only 2-3 guys from one guild. And I think I had had to help out 4 people of the same guild once. Funnily enough we lost that match iirc.
but I understand the reasons we don’t.
Out of curiosity, what are those reasons?

I can’t see the youtube videos so no idea what they’re showing, but I agree that the animation is very bad now.
Lets wait and see how things play out a couple weeks though. I have a feeling ANet will cave to the pressure and want to nerf RF and simply changing it to shoot 1 arrow for the full damage of RF after a 2.5 charge up may be their solution :/
Firing an arrow every .5 seconds would also be fine.
The video I linked shows a real life guy shooting 10 arrows in 4.9 seconds.
It’s a MMORPG. It has a very heavy PvE side, it has a quite unique potential PvP format in WvW, but many of its balancing- and PvP-resources are bound in emulating something other games build around the concept of eSports already do far better.
Such as? And don’t you dare say MOBAs because those games do not deliver at all what GW2 does right when it comes to PvP.
I’d love to see more standalone 3rd person controlled, ability-centered arena pvp games that do not make you level up anew each game with in-depth character building as GW2 features. Alas I don’t know anything that comes even close in the pvp aspect.
Also characters with premade design and story/lore are boring and suck.
So, I have spoken my mind. I’ve made it clear on this, and other forums how I think this betrayal is unacceptable. Betrayal my be too strong a word, perhaps this “swindling” is unacceptable. At any rate… the final step is complete. I’ve requested a full refund for any/gem purchases I’ve made. And believe you me…that is a very large sum… I wanted to support Anet and show my love with my wallet, and had every, every intent of being a long standing player in this otherwise amazing game. Gear treadmill is a deal breaker, the deception and disregard, callous lack of response. It isn’t ok to accept this treatment as a consumer…or just as a human being in general.
I’m ok with this resulting in my account being closed, as I’m sure will be required to go through with a gem refund of this nature. But I simply will not allow a company to lie to me, and then swindle me. Absolute deal breaker.
I’m aware this will probably be deleted. I just wanted to say, to those of you who are calling it quits and have made additional purchases to show your support in the past, the option to request a refund is available to you. If you’re leaving, speak with your wallet. Don’t just stop buying from them, demand a refund for the things you were sold under false pretense. Better Business Bureau has a word for this sort of thing from a company, fraud.
(Technically… their term isn’t fraud, but that just sounded more dramatic! >.> They classify it as simply “Advertising/Sales Issues”)
It has been an interesting trip, and I will always remember this game as the game that had all the potential in the world, bristling with it, splitting at it’s seems with untapped amazing awesomeness… and the ball was fumbled, and the game never because all that it could have… should have been.
Good luck everyone who stays, I hope you find what you are looking for.

Let me know how your gem refund goes because I’m in a similar position.
Everyone starts at 80, there is no leveling. Everyone gets access to the best gear immediatly, of every type. All zones are level 80. There is only end game crafting and you buy the right to craft from vendors. Progression is cosmetic based only.
Holy kitten that would be amazing, especially all zones being level 80.
You sure like the term “lol”, good for you and why would I try to stop you?
No I am not PR just because I don’t share your opinion, talk about being childish. Get that out of your head, the world doesn’t work that way.
What I find interesting is that many of you seem so convinced that they WILL in-fact add a new set of gear and that you won’t be able to transmute that skin onto your old one. That you won’t be able to change an infusion of your gear either.
Even when you don’t have any evidence for such a thing or anything about any new gear-tier being added either. “Must be the case” is simply not good enough.
This could very well be the final gear model and be the same 5 expansions from now.
Doesn’t matter if they ever add a new tier or not.
Yes, exotics are easy to get. It’s how it was supposed to be, here’s what Mike O’Brien said:
Mike O’Brien
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games – we leave the grind to other MMOs.”
It is the number one reason why I bought into GW2, because I have played far too many MMORPGs where investing more time into the game gave you a statistical advantage. Not only do the people who play more usually play better than other people (because they practice more), no, they also get an unfair advantage right off the bat. I am sick and tired of this and I sincerely believed GW2 was going to be different.
It’s not anymore. Legendary weapons give you a 5% damage increase over exotics and that’s not even including stats like power or precision.
They created a problem where there was no problem before. I haven’t played the game in over a week because of the new patch and if things stay the same I don’t see myself ever playing GW2 again.
Of all the threads in the forums, this is the one I wish the Devs read. Nothing like a good parody to show the absurdity of the infusion concept.
We increasingly live in an age where satire is the only form of protest not censored. It’d be hilarious if it wasn’t so worrisome.
So me and my friend were talking on the IRC and he came up with a great idea. We both really liked Ascended Gear / Infusions for PvE so we though it should extend to other areas of the game.
-The Idea-
Add vertical progression / ascended gear infusions to emotes. Basically, have emoting give higher debuffs the harder they are and require you do do a bunch of easier emotes to get infusions for ascended gear so you can do more complicated performances.
Lets call this defuff “clumsiness” and you need infused ascended stages and equipment in order to ignore it. The more you have, the more stacks of tasteless you ignore. If you don’t have any infusions to counter it and try to do a emote it just fizzles.
I feel like we need clear progression on emotes as I have no motivation to do them without it.
Please limit feedback to constructive only.
Why,
why is everyone acting like the world has ended.
First World Problems
First World Problems is the most bullkitten phrase to arise in the last years to dismiss an argument.
This change saddens me. I have two characters fully decked out in exotics and I was happy with that because I trusted arena.net that is all that I will ever have to worry about gear again, just like in gw1. If ascended items as described in the blogpost really make it into the game I will stop playing, period.
Which is quite sad because I really enjoyed WvW and sPvP, but I also enjoy PvE from time to time. If I now have to participate in gear farming to keep up with the PvE content then I’d rather not play the game at all, no matter how entertaining sPvP is.
It’s just too disappointing compared to what was said when the game was advertised, even if it only affected PvE (and it doesn’t, it also affects WvW).
Was it in WvW? Are you a guardian?
If ascended gear even is one stat point better than exotics I will quit this game and no longer spend a single cent on it.
Might be interesting.
Where is the place to give you constructive feedback laugh at you how wrong you are?
this is the build you’re looking for, it’s all you’ll ever need from now on

I use it in spvp and pve and wvw
for dungeons use bow of frost, it’s awesome
everybody should use snow leopard norn elite at least once before commenting on racial elite usefulness
It’s a bug in our favour, keep quite and enjoy it.
I was terribly disappointed when I realized I couldn’t move while using shapeshift attack skills.
Makes them pretty pointless, the only one I use is snow leopard to travel and escape combat.
But making a norn elite only useful for running away? Really?
big characters make animations easier to spot, they also stick out in a crowd, I play female norn elementalist and it’s definitely a disadvantage since I’m not going for tanky stats
but
kitten that, I’m norn, come at me, I don’t give a kitten if you target me, I can take it and laugh all the while
I wish my norn elementalist had any armour as cool as the medium t3
I prefer the elementalist gameplay over my thief gameplay for the most part, but my thief just looks so gorgeous, I can’t bring myself to play my elementalist anymore.
I’m running 10 deadly arts, 30 crit strikes and 30 trickery with full berserkers gear and in group fights people just die whereever I am.
Granted I don’t engage in zerg warfare, but instead usually hang back with a group of 3-5 guildmates taking on enemy groups of 10-15 people, so it’s rather small scale, but yeah it’s working out quite well so far.
Pistol Whip gives you enough evade to actually survive long enough before you shadowstep back into safety where you can heal up or stealth or disengage to recover and the damage, especially when hasted, is still very strong.
Also cluster bomb crits for 6 to 10k.
Staff is able to hit (number of meteors x 5) targets while dagger at best can hit 5 targets.
Meteor shower is just way too good to not use in WvW.
Also you get all the nice utility to funnel people on one spot for even better aoe such as frozen ground and unsteady ground.
Ok, honest question, how are we supposed to catch anybody if we’re ninjas and constantly set people on fire?
Pistol Whip + Haste is just lol
I quickly logged back onto my elementalist after I saw how easy it is to kill people just spamming 2 buttons.
d/d is just about the coolest thing I’ve ever played in any online game both from a gameplay pov as well as an aesthetic pov

They should let us swap weapons like every other class but in our case only once we have lost all aggro
Agree with Shelv… If they want to talk balance, look at Engineer unlimited Fury, Might, Swiftness, Vigor because 0 cooldown on kits.
No.
It’s either weapon presets for everyone or nothing at all.
Is there a reason why elementalists do not have a "reduce falling damage" trait?
in Elementalist
Posted by: Abra.5230
If you’ve played enough WvW, you know how invaluable the reduced falling damage traits can be. It really hinders Elementalists’ ability to keep up with groupmates on WvW maps when all of their allies can all take quicker routes to objectives because they don’t have to worry about falling to their death.
True, with elementalists it’s always a faceplant into the ground, you take durability loss and 4 other people have to pick you up as fast as they can if you’re being chased. Sucks.
How do I solo 10 mobs?
With a staff?
I got to the all underwater mission in your personal quest just yesterday. It was when I said screw this and quit playing my personal quest.
Not that I couldn’t do it, I’m quite confident that I could if I wanted to, but the point is that to me elementalist underwater is just so f***ing bad to the point where I feel like quitting the game the moment I submerge.
Hi,
I can’t select my God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals title in Guild Wars 2
And this:
didn’t fix it either.
Anybody got any other suggestions?
