Daily insanity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Okay I realize you guys wanted to change it up but now you pretty much limited the daily to people or kids that have nothing to do with their time all day.

I’m a father of 2 with a pregnant wife my time during the week is limited as I look forward too the weekends to play with some friends online.

The newly daily just totally screwed me over now, as it was I used to wake up do my daily and pretty much get ready for work and head out. This is impossible now quite frankly entirely unfair. You’re going to punish a person that can’t devote more than a couple hours a day.
The mystic forge is pretty dumb too although I guess I’ll just use blues for now on on that one lol
Keg brawler? I just don’t have time for this stuff till weekend.

Thanks Anet to be sympathetic to the working class people that play your game they’re also the ones that buy the most gems and in game store content looks like I’ll stop buying them too. By the way statistics show that 57% of today’s gamer’s are 30 years or older with an average of 12 years playing games. Good marketing there lol.

Edit:
——————-

Sorry peoples I broke my number 1 rule. "Never assume it makes and kitten u-me.
Apparently I woke up real cranky yesterday well actually my sleep was interrupted but that’s another discussion.

When I looked at the daily I didn’t read the release notes and realize that you get to “choose” 5. I was under the assumption that I had to do all 9 hence the rage lol

So in shed of the new found and correct information then yes no reason why you can’t bang out the daily pretty quickly esp on days when you just have to visit a luarel vendor I bet lol.

Apologies for being a nit nit lol.

I’m not sure if someone posted this before I searched a few strings nothing came up though.

When I or others link their ascended rings it doesn’t show the infusions that are currently equipped to the linked piece.
I confirmed this with many others, started out just trying to show someone my Agony Resistance when I myself can see it but once linked no one else can see it. So told them to link theirs sure enough I couldn’t see their infusions as well.

The people that are complaining are the ones that switched servers multiple times for easy street as well. Now they’re mad cause they have to work at it rather than just transfer servers.

Bullkitten. I’ve been on Devona’s Rest since launch and couldn’t care less which tier I am in, but I do want to be in balanced matches. I’m intelligent enough to see the inherent flaws in the system that ANet is using and the likely effects that resetting every server is going to cause. Just because you are unable to do so doesn’t mean that everyone else is lazy.

Who said I was lazy about it , I stated I like WvW and have been playing it reagrdless of rank as I could care less about rank lol.

Don’t assume , it makes an kitten u-me.

I didn’t say all the people that were complaining the fact is people server hoping cause this mess in the first place. So servers that were once well ranked don;t have the same people that made it that Rank. It’s a really simple concept. Don’t get mad at me for something I didn’t code and take advantage of lol.

Lets not jump down peoples throats people and flame the forums it never makes anything better. Hopefully the reset will balance things. (I think it will)

Acidphase.6520

The “some” of the people that are complaining are the ones that switched servers multiple times for easy street as well. Now they’re mad cause they have to work at it rather than just transfer servers. I’m Surprised Anet didn’t take the time and review people transfers along with their wvw activity and sent them back to their original server lol.

“Want to move servers just to be on the better wvw server then pay for it”
If people spent less time tryign to get to a #1 server and instead inspire the server they’re already on things would be much more matched up.

So the reset should solve this issue putting the top servers that people hopped on at war with one another and no more face rolling.

One other point you also have people changing servers just to get Map completion done and want nothing to do with WvW at all. I think Anet made a miss calculation on this part because now you have to rely on your entire server to complete something.

I like WvW and PvP in general but PvP and PvE should never be mixed up with one another in situations like this.

The most Obvious is that it’s unfair to both the people who want to WvW and they’re stuck waiting in cue because of group of people are just there to get done their Map Completion and two it’s unfair to the PvE crowd depending on the WvW crowd.

(Logically you would think the PvE crowd while there would help out to make Map completion easier but some people just wont be bothered)

Any news on DX10 or DX 11 mode?

Acidphase.6520

I could care less about the eye candy stuff, DX11 has a much more modern API for threading and GPU scaling, hence a huge increase in performance. While half of you seem to think this isn’t important GW2 via DX9 is very taxing on lower end systems.

The majority of pc’s today have a DX11 capable video card and if not all you have to do is select DX9/10 in options.

While you may have the most up to date drivers, the problem becomes with most drivers is residueles left over from previous driver versions.

Best way to go about it is uninstall the old ones reboot , then go into device manager look under display adapters uninstall make sure to check “Delete current Driver” as well reboot, then use a 3rd party application like “Driver Sweeper” to yank any left over files and registry entries reboot.

Then install the new drivers and you guessed it “Reboot” lol isn’t windows great =P
(If you keep your system pretty tidy you can most likely get away with just using something like Driver Sweeper, however the process I just illustrated is pretty much the only way to get it back to a fresh install environment)

As far as the 13.2 Drivers I’m using them right now so far so good for me. I know later in the month there will be another version of these drivers if not the full version which will have the memory fixes in them.

Low fps, possibly temps?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Acidphase.6520

Acidphase.6520

I have been seeing a bunch of these threads on here about low fps.

Couple reasons besides the raw power of the machine it’s partly software as well and not all just Anet’s either. Windows 7 and core parking plus thread handling is meh with certain CPU’s.
Another thing is the lack of DX11 which is a more moderen API than of DX9 and I’m not referring to eye candy either. As much as the DX11 visual effects are nice the updated performance aspects of it like thread handling and GPU scaling is far better than of DX9.

A 64-bit client would be nice as well, loading times would be cut in half for people with the proper specs just for starters it would also help with bottle necking in the memory stacks and sim ways of the CPU cores.

As far as the CPU temp issues I seen a lot of good suggestions on here only thing I can add on to it is check for dust if you haven’t already, make sure the heat sink is properly seated, a good thermal compound like the artic silver types goes a long way as well.
If you do get a new Fan which is an option just make sure it will work with future builds this way your not just throwing away money.
Another point is normally with heat issues rather than low FPS you are more likely to get stability issues very similar to low voltage issues where you will get blue screens with random faults, mostly memory corruptions errors or just flat out lock up. Some motherboards will simply shut down the whole system to prevent damage as well.

Either way check it out as “Heat” and “Vibration” are the main causes damage on electronic semi-conductors and IC’s. So it takes away from the life span of your components.

Did you guys ever for kicks and giggle mess with the graphic options to see if one of the options is causing it?
Sometimes you get graphical errors for more reason than just drivers (even though that’s a #1 culprit).

Sometimes it can just be a bug in the level design like textures not properly lined, meshes through walls/floors, or even HOM anomalies due to improper aligned polygons(allot of level design is process of subtracting material rather than adding kind of like carving it out of a large block of wood)

If your having similar issues with another game I would say right off the bat it’s not game related but OS related.

I would check your drive settings as well as the drivers for disk controllers, chipsets like North Bridge and south bridge etc.. Reference the driver versions with your board or chipset manufactures see if there is any updates on their website specifically for Windows 8 including beta versions.

I would start with your motherboard manufacture site, or if you know your chipset vendor eg. AMD, Intel, Nvidia I would check them for the latest drivers etc..

Raiding: Not like the other guys

Without reading through every ones posts here and just going off the main thread,

It sounds like Anet is working on something that would entice those that want a raiding system. Right off the bat the they said they’re working on Guild specific content to do things as a entire Guild or even in small groups.

Secondly I think where Anet’s head is at is to replace the repetitive Dungeon or Raid Instance grinds with something more “Dynamic” and rewarding allowing either the whole server to participate or less requiring the community to work together almost like a raid event. Difference anyone can drop in or out and any moment that would automagically scale the event and it’s rewards.

A client for Linux

Again off topic stuff it has nothing to do with a Linux Native Client.

As far as driver issues this will not be the responsibility of Anet. If they have a working client with any video card would be up to the Device manufacture to provide an adequate driver or use the open source driver again not Anets problem.

Ravenmoon, Nvidia is a bad example to use as Nvidia has been pretty good with their drivers for Linux. If you wanted a better argument AMD’s Linux drivers are much more vulnerable to criticisms. Even at that though they still work fine for me, even with wine when I run WoW-64 I get very good frame rates (100-200/fps). I can only imagine how well it would run with a “Native Client”.

If Main Stream Game Developers start making more Linux native clients hardware manufactures will provide better support for the games and their hardware.
In general we the consumers have much to gain when competition and ingenuity come together. This will also benefit Apple users with OS X.

According to certain people on the other thread it will take away from the game for them to work on a Linux client. I mean where is the mentality here? Normally it forces them to clean up the existing code and add on new code.
As far as expansions etc.. that is totally separate department in development e.g. a level designer does not have to worry about his level being Linux compatible , or someone whom works on meshes, artist, and story line ? (I can see this in the story line: “Asurans decide to use Linux for their Golem’s/Gates now they’re not crashing no more”)

Oh yeah, also mentioned they wanted them to work on the bugs. Windows specific bugs or games specific ones? Because if it’s game bugs they’re already working on it and it would have to be addressed regardless what platform the game is on which again will be a separate Team.
If we’re talking windows specific bugs that may and could be the same team and I guess “maybe” it could take away focus but highly unlikely because the code would be cleaned up regardless of the API it’s being sent through unless it’s DirectX specifically.
Also one more point Arenanet would get tons of help from the Linux community and if they opted to work with a Distro like Ubuntu like Blizzard did, it would be a very competent team working on the port. Again taking nothing away from the beloved Windows specific bugs.

You are telling me nothing new. Granted you bothered to write a wall of text about it.
I guess we could wait and see how linux gaming evolves.
But linux is not yet consumer ready. It does require some technical knowledge. And really its only Ubuntu addressing this issue.
Yes, most distros install easily, some even easier than windows, but what happens afterwards is bad

Rofl , what happens after you install windows is bad too. Are you kidding me? Hell windows tells you to back up your data while your installing it lol A freshly new windows install can be come messed up/corrupted just as fast with a large amount of issues including hardware compatibility. Windows isn’t impervious to it’s share of headaches hell ME was nick named “Migraine Edition”.

Again Ravenmoon why do keep turning every thread of people asking for a Linux client into a Windows Vs Linux argument I just don’t get it. If you love windows so much great I have good news for you there is already a working client in windows go play the kitten game and let us worry about asking for a Linux client.

As far as any issues within Linux whether it be hardware or software I’m sure we the community can handle it while your in windows playing the game.

Thanks DantesRequiem, you saved me a bunch of typing lol.

Only thing you left out was the point “So What they’re working with Ubuntu” apparently he doesn’t know much about Linux. If there is a working source code or even binary which most of the repositories are filled with. It can “Very Easily” be used with other a different Distro. Take Gentoo an example which requires some work to get it setup etc I see tons of ebuilds with urls straight to debian package links *.deb".
Because you can simply extract the same package and do what you must with it lol.
Also Ubuntu has Canonical which is a huge monetary support system for Ubuntu not to mention they also have main stream business partners like IBM, Asus, and Dell so it’s no surprise that these developers would team up with the Ubuntu team.
Once again I’ll state if it work in one Linux distro you can get it to work in anything it’s up to the other Linux Distro devs to make sure it does which isn’t Game Developers problem or Ubuntu’s cause all they’re going to say is “We have a working Linux client/Game whatever”.

I guarantee once its working in Ubuntu you can bet with in a week to a month for sure it will in all Linux Distributions lol.

That’s exactly what people said back when Vista came out.
That’s exactly what people said back when Windows NT came out.
That’s exactly what people said back when Windows 98 came out.

Do you see the pattern?

No it’s not exactly the same this time around because the UI has been completely changed as well morphed into some kind of pile of crap of Tablet knock off style GUI. On top of it for other issues that is whirling around it. Also Vista was a flop lol That’s why they pumped out Windows 7 so fast.

I’m also going by end user input of windows 8 not just what people are saying in the tech world. “Ugh Windows 8 is horrible”. It’s so bad they Microsoft is offering people whom bought a Windows 8 PC a roll back Windows 7 key. Granted it’s a bit involved but just by offering it isn’t a good sign for their New OS.

Also this time YOU SEE developers rejecting it rather than scurry re-integrate their stuff Like Blizzard , Valve, as well as others they didn’t that crap with the release of other versions of Windows and definitely not ever look to Linux as seriously as they are now.

Why are you people so scared of progress and competition this only makes good things better and bad things good. Holy hell you would think these people have stock in Microsoft or are related to Bill Gates.

P.S. I happen to like Windows 7 very much, most solid OS they had in years so this isn’t a Bash Microsoft post but people keep trying to turn it into a bash Linux episode.

There is already a thread going about this. A Client For Linux

I agree though when I saw windows 8 in the alpha stage I was like “Um this isn’t going to work for gamers and certain applications”.

I think also what woke people up to Linux is Android while it isn’t a desktop it did expose people to it’s potential and gave Apple/Microsoft some real competition. The people can benefit from having competition and right now Linux is now coming into light for allot of people as a very viable alternative.

I’ve been using Linux for nearly 15 years so I’ve witnessed it’s evolution first hand along with it’s API’s it is More than possible to have a game native to Linux. The problem is as I stated on the other post. Microsoft has a monopoly on the game industry with DirectX and allot of the Game Developers don’t want to pay to 1. re-train current software devs or 2. Higher news ones all together for use with OpenGL.

However more and more I see games now that began in Linux crossing over to Windows like Nexuiz . Also seeing game engines with crossover support out of the box like Uningine. However I think the future of games as online broadband connections are much easier and cheaper to obtain cloud gaming like On-Live and Gaikai is active and will be more popular in the near future.

Guys while I’m enjoying the back and forth you guys went way off topic on a tangent lol It’s taking away the focus of this whole thread.

However since we’re on the topic. “Networkmanager” is horrible for stuff like that(even in general) and it’s considered and marked unstable in a few Distro’s. I’m not gong to claim I know everything about every Distro my exposure to OpenSuse is minimal as I run Gentoo currently and many others in the past from Red Hat to Debian.

Anyway did you try and use “wicd” I hear very good things about that manager and normally is the go to manager when there is an issue with wireless devices.

Also if the driver is being built as an module and your having problems did you try to build it into the Kernel rather than as a module? Sometimes that resolves issues as well.

I don’t understand why you people are arguing over which API is better as it really isn’t realavent to whats being asked here.

For one one of the major problems for Arenanet would be their programmers knowing how to program in OpenGL as allot of companies just see it as overhead to either 1. re-train current employees that don’t or 2. higher new ones that do.

This isn’t entirely their fault because the industry standard is DirectX which pretty much lets Microsoft monopolize the market. What makes this even funnier though is that Guild Wars 2 doesn’t run on the latest DirectX(11) doing so would increase game performance tremendously but with DirectX9 porting to the current OpenGL 4.3 Would to as well lol.

I’m all for a Linux client but I just don’t see it happening when they wont even update the game to the latest version of DirectX using the same API let alone a whole new one lol. However WineHQ has offered to team up with Arenanet and still awaiting their response. They pointed out to them they wouldn’t even have a OS X release if it wasn’t for wine. Which is true because Trans Gaming wouldn’t exist without Wine lol.

Checkout the petition here: Consider development alongside the Wine Project

I would love to see a native Linux Client via OpenGL but when they won’t even work with a wrapper again I don’t see it happening.

You do realize if someone used Gems to Buy enough gold to buy this Item it would cost them like $5,000 USD.

If some idiot is dumb enough to do that then trust me they got what they deserve, plus Anet just made allot of money.

However if they bought the gold from somewhere else it wouldn’t be as much but still be allot $$ either way lol.

I’m thinking it’s possible that it may be a site that’s selling this item to get the gold just to turn around and sell the gold to additional morons to make money.

So with this said I find it hard to believe, that there is someone in the game that actually farmed that much gold since release and if they did they have no life what so ever and they need intervention… Or they used a some bots.

There is one last possibility. Some dude just threw it up there just because he knows no one will ever buy it for that price. Pretty much using it like a bank. However if someone did buy it he has enough gold for just about anything he will ever need spanned across multiple accounts. lol

Hello,

First would like to say ArenaNet really did a great Job with this game. There is by far more things I love about the game than the things I dislike about the game play.

Here is a list of things that I believe in my opinion would improve Guild Wars 2 tremendously.

1. The expanded map is a great feature nicely laid out etcetera. however the development team should add an overlay for chat on it. This way you can chat and draw or link things and still see both chat and the map.

2. This may be more of a gripe than feed back lol. The cost of using way points is way to expensive @ higher levels. It seems the formula for calculating cost of travel is level based more than proximity based.
Allot of the time I find myself hesitating to help others in my guild or just people in general with events and mobs.
It’s really hard to get ahead in the economy when travel costs so much as well as hinder co-operations. This is also true for a contested Way Point situations when you die and have to spawn far away it costs even more, then you have to run your self all the way back.
For events perhaps adopting something like a “Kisk” from Aion where people can bind to it and spawn from it’s location.

3. Cost of item repairs is also very expensive, compared to other MMORPG games I have played it seems the ratio is much greater in costs. Both of these gripes can discourage new comers to the game. Which I would hate to see because I think other than these few things the game is near perfect.

4. The introduction of a DirectX 11 engine would be very beneficial. While some want it for “Eye Candy” which I think the environment and aesthetic visuals are immersive enough. My desire or concern for DX11 is better performance, the majority of video cards all have DX11 support today and is native to windows 7 and recently Windows 8.

I) One of the most obvious and most important would be it’s multi-threading capabilities the utilization of multiple CPU’s is far more advanced and
efficient than DX9 by leaps and bounds. The majority of PC’s have multi-core CPU’s from tablets to Desktops. Even the console systems have multi-core processors.

II) GPU’s can be utilized more effectively as especially the DX11 capable ones because they can before instructions and tasks currently being rendered through the CPU or stuff like “Direct Compute”. I notice on average my GPU’s load is between 25-50%. Which leads me to my next point. DX11 have better threading for multiple GPU setups which are very popular today. Most avid game players like myself have this sort of setup either by Nvidia’s SLI or AMD’s Crossfire modes.

III) Development of DX11 and it’s APIs are easier to program lowering the over all cost and time of developers. This would not only decrease Arenanet’s Overhead but would also allow more time for developers to work on new ideas with faster and easier ways to implement it.

5. A modern 64-Bit Client I would say more than 90% of your target market is running a 64-bit OS, again this would address more performance allowing the client access all of the system resources , allot of people have more than 4 Gigabytes of RAM heck allot of people are using Graphic cards that have more than 4 gigabytes of VRAM lol.

Allowing the game to utilize such resources would accelerate loading times especially if certain things are kept loaded in RAM rather from disk. This also allows the client to run instructions twice as efficient doing so by utilizing 64 bit instruction sets or chunks of data.
Right now the only fully supported and extremely successful functional 64-Bit MMO client I can think of is World of WarCraft’s client it even runs very stable under a Linux or MAC environment.

6. My final suggestion here , more free trials, allot of people want to try before they buy. I here that phrase constantly from friends and the general public. I apologize for referencing WOW again but they have a free edition of the game with a level cap of 20. While I think this is unnecessary for Guild Wars 2 as I think just a simple trial account would be suffice such as the traditional “Invitational” promotion from current players to friends and acquaintances.
I currently have friends right now that have been playing World of Warcraft for a decade or more , your not going to get these people easily without some bait lol. Keep in mind they have multiple alt characters probably tons of lore and gear. It’s not easy going from Twink to Dink lol.

With Great Respect ,
