Siege Artillery in WvW Jumping Puzzles

I’m sorry to say but, what amount of idiotic oversight of this game would allow you to build siege equipment inside of a jumping puzzle? In what alternate dimension would this ever be considered a good idea? Considering all it takes is one player with an arrow cart and an entire server (or two) can literally be blocked from completing the puzzle.

I am fine with PvP in the puzzles, in fact, the PvP contested puzzles are the only ones I like. The thrill of executing a puzzle with potential bad guys trying to gut you.

But, siege equipment should be for sieging keeps and supply camps. Not for literally griefing players while they’re trying to do a puzzle for fun.

At a loss for words at how long this has probably been going on, lol. There’s probably been other threads pertaining to the same issue. Ask me if I care.

Merciful Intervention

This skill feels very lackluster right now, and I think the mechanics of it need to be re-worked. More often times than not when I’ve tried to use it, it will heal a NPC, or someone’s pet or something instead of the target you intended it for. What I think is, it should either become either of the following: Only group members or used on player you have selected. So to the latter, it would be a supportive heal version of Judge’s Intervention.

It would be a great supportive healing skill for a party, as you can get it to heal for as much as 5k+ in sPvP, and as guardian doesn’t have a whole lot of burst heals, we mostly deal in regen, that would help spike heal someone if they’re going down fast.

Unfortunately, no one can really know why servers rise so fast like IoJ has done in the last few days. First day or two, it was really really even, well at least between IoJ and CD. The reason I’m saying this is, there’s nothing stopping guilds from transferring each day. It could be that CD and ET just stopped trying, but I don’t think that’s entirely the issue. I think ultimately it’s free transfers ruining competition because if people don’t like the losing side, they go to the winning side, and then the curse hits when they don’t like the winning side because of long queues.

I started out on Anvil Rock because I was a hardcore sPvPer, but since leveling from 20-80 I’ve been on Crystal Desert, and all the testimonies I’ve heard from friends here say they go out swinging and then lose the drive a couple days in. The server is casual, and not very organized, so it’s not like we can just call on a bunch of legions to take keeps. We rely on the phenomenon we call zerg to push, and when the score is very tight, people will try, when IoJ pulled out in front by 1-2-3k points, then at a stready 2-3k per hour, people give up, naturally.

I don’t really mind since the queue times for CD have always been pretty tame, and since most of my PvP has been focused inside the puzzles, it doesn’t really bother me at all.

Players exploiting / destroying the essence of sPvP

This just means that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. The mystical “Woah, he has good armor, he must be a beast” that everyone thought Gw2 would be didn’t turn out to be that way. In a lot of games, you can generally PvE for PvP items. In a way, this is no different, as you’re interacting with your environment in a way that is exploiting (farming glory).

All this means is that if you see someone in beastly looking gear, don’t automatically assume he/she is good, but instead test their actually skill ability first. This is even more of a reason to not care about such a concept as glory farming. The reverse also applies; don’t take someone for granted or think that they are a joke because they are in rabbit gear. They might just be a beastly player that wants to mess with you.

So in short, I don’t really see what ANet needs to do about this because it doesn’t effect population, or economic growth in any way. They banned exploiters that used the karma weapon vender bug to their advantage because that could have had a serious down turn on the game’s global economy. This can’t, and won’t.

10/30/30 is scepter/torch. Why so many people don’t use torch is beyond me. 20 in radiance has torch CD recharge, and let’s face it, torch has the lowest overall CD of any off hand weapon Guardian gets. ADDED to that, scepter is a weapon you can kite with while doing damage, getting a root on a 20s CD (which is rather OP), if you bait out the opponent’s endurance properly and lock them down, torch #4 will annihilate their health. I’ve seen it crit for upwards of 7k before with the proper build, which is usually zerker amulet, zerker jewel, rock dog runes and 10/30/30.

The brilliant part about this setup is how high you can raise your crit rate with RHS.

Burning And Bleeding - Condition Damage for Guardian

Condition Guard sPvP build is not viable. Even though you have a few ways of igniting flame on someone, and burn is technically a stronger condition, you don’t have enough ways to apply condition to make it STAY on your target. I’ve tried all sorts of condi builds and it simply doesn’t work, not if you’re trying to fight anyone with half of a brain.

If you fight my guard with a condition build like that, it wont last long. First, burn is easy to cleanse. Everytime you apply it, I’ll have smite condition because it’s a 16s CD, and smite condition gets a damage boost from having that burn applied. Secondly, you have to sacrifice way too much damage or crit or toughness/vit to have it.

PvE like I said, it could work, but I’m sure just straight up power/crit can be effective as well. Guards are one of the strongest pve classes, if it aint broken, why fix it?

Guardian scepter needs some SERIOUS HELP

Scepter is ridiculously OP in sPvP, but I can see how it might be a little lack luster in WvWvW. Generally people in sPvP want to stay around points, meaning you can cut their angles giving the distance for orb spam not too many problems. I hit with most of my orb of wraths as long as you aren’t trying to be like all the other legolas wannabes and re-simulate a lord of the ring’s castle siege.

I like the suggestions in the original part, and I think smite being a light field with an on demand combo finisher projectile would be insanely nice, maybe even bordering on overpowered. Condition builds would be so weak against it as you can lay down smite and spam your orb and get cleanses for every single orb you shoot out.

3 needs a cast time. The instant immobilize is really broken at this point I think. Maybe a range decrease if not making it a cast time.

In PvP, guardian burn builds with heavy spec into condition damage is not viable. The problem is, many classes have ways of cleansing conditions, and you as a guardian do not have enough conditions that would tax even the weakest condition removing class.

Or in another way of putting it, there are not enough on demand debuff that will bury burn onto a player target to make it not be cleansed by 90% of skills that cleanse conditions.

PvE on the other hand, it could work, especially if you work with purging flame and you trait it, because with a standard 10/30/30 build with meditation heals, you get plenty of crit, and full condition damage from the radiance line, so I don’t think that would be an issue. Aside from that, if you want a lot of condition damage, don’t sacrifice everything else for it. It might work, but I haven’t explored too much into PvE so far to really tell if condition based builds on a guard work well in PvE end game.

Guardians have fourteen skills that use projectiles...

I don’t understand why some of them aren’t. The only thing that is blatantly obvious to me right now is Smite Condition which should be a BLAST finisher. There is no disputing that. I guess if they put a light field on smite field (scepter 2) that it would be kind of OP in a way, so I understand why they don’t. Scepter is a little broken as it is.

mesmer elite skills vs other elite skills

I don’t get the super hype over MOA, lol. If it took all your endurance away, FINE. But, if you engage a mesmer and you know he hasn’t used it, expect it, don’t dodge roll too much and when you get MOA’d, you can kind of get a sense for when to dodge. You get 1.5-2s of invuln time each roll, and you get 50% of your endurance back while in MOA, so that’s at least 4-5 seconds of that 10 where you can spend it evading all attacks.

The only thing I don’t agree with is it cancelling out every single other elite transformation like a guardian tome or a necro elite. This should be reworked.

Also, it should have a damage cap, if you take X amount of damage, the 10 second duration automatically ends, fair enough.

Time Warp, well, that IS overpowered and needs some kind of balancing there. You can effectively put this on a point, because it’s radius is just as big, and if you stay on point with a guard/warrior or any other class with heavy AOE, consider yourself a goner. I know my guard can do insane amounts of damage when I have time warp activated for a group fight.

Aside from that, I don’t get what the problem is, even though they do have the strongest elite set in the game, it’s really nothing a good player needs to be concerned about. Work around it, or bring a mesmer, all is fair at the end of the day.

5 minute wait timer at the start of each match needs reducing.

Agreed. I have some other things about tournament play that I would like to mention as well.

Also, there needs to be a reminder system for people to ready up. It is extremely frustrating when you run into a team (NOTE: this happens frequently) a team, most likely quick queue, of players half of which are there, skirmishing in the beginning but not readied up.

Example, if you load in, and you are the only one not readied, the game after 10 seconds should say “Calling attention to ready players.” Or, if every time someone readies up, it should say “Player 4 (4th one on list for example) is now ready” (of course, with a short global CD to prevent spamming. Maybe 10 seconds?)

It would speed up tournament play and get people into the good stuff A LOT faster. I want to fight and kill stuff, and advance or lose, not sit there and watch someone try to Legolas range you from the respawn area while everyone else is waiting for them.

I also know it’s nice to see Blue and Red team on the score board when you are about to begin a match, but I would honestly much rather see their team name. You only get to see the team names vs’ing each other for a brief second or two. I KNOW I am Red team based on the area and the clothes you are in. Where it would normally say “Red Team” and “Blue Team” make it say “Team X” above the player roster list the entire time.

LASTLY, let us retain our dyes that we are unlocking. You can get around dying everyone’s characters the same very easily by simply putting a red/blue icon above players heads. Some skins are auto dyed very poorly, for example, many skins on red team have a light red with a puke green color. What is that? If you have a skin combination that you like outside in the mists because you colored it well, let it show your original dyes.
