I’ve recently resurrected a yesterday’s laptop currently running Windows XP SP3. I’ve tried to install GW2 on it, but when the launcher has passed the “Downloading XXXXX kB” and shows up the login window, it simply doesn’t download anything more. If logging in, the loading icon just appears in an endless loop, without nothing happening at all (the screenshot below shows is ~20 minutes after logging in).
Is XP unsupported nowadays or what’s the problem?
I put up a lfg to sell a dusk for 1100g upfront and someone came in and said they reported me. So I checked the TOS to see if they were just salty or what and there was nothing on the official TOS that said anything about it. Later another guy who referred me here just said I should look up the new rules. I stopped and borrowed money for the listing fees from someone I know to put it up for sale. This is the only time I even sold something on the lfg, I was too poor to afford the listing fee. Also tons of other people were doing that I saw in the past.
Am I going to get an infraction since this rule is completely fresh, or is it cool? Also what kind of person goes around reporting people that doesn’t even concern them at all. The dude comes in like he had authority and reported me. What a loser..
Edit: Also I asked “Pinjin” a developer ingame about it and she/he said it was fine as long as it was ingame currency, and then I learned there was a new rule, so not even everyone who works at Anet knows about this rule yet.
I also got a troll happily joining a party just to say he reported me for LFG abuse (I was about to trade PvP Arena Tokens, which by natural reasons cannot be put on the Trading Post). I reported him back for the same reason – joining to split the party up and force excessive messaging, which basically is manipulation of the LFG system in order to mess it up for others.
I later found this thread, and there is nowhere in the User Rules of Conduct or User Agreement stated exactly how LFG should be used (the word “LFG” or sentence “Looking For Group” isn’t even mentioned in any of those), or that we frequently have to check the forums (!) to keep ourselves updated about unwritten changes of the Agreement. All I can relate to it is point 9 in the Rules of Conduct, but dungeons are also game content which therefore shouldn’t be allowed to be traded either.
Scams are also a dull point. I’m definitely ready to bet some bucks that there are way more dungeon scammers than item scammers in the LFG system. And if getting scammed, I cannot use the LFG to warn other people, since I’m not LFG:ing to find a physical group for a specific activity.
It would be weird if it’s hard to “rebuild” LA, since all they need is a backup from what it was before Scarlet destroyed it. I would love to see it in one piece again, it looks quite depressing at the moment, and the most important waypoint in the city still doesn’t work.
250,000 kills huh?
24 kills per day, every day, comes out to 434 days to get the title. That does sound more than a little absurd. Especially for the more support-y and controll-y folks who aren’t set up to throw up a blanket of AoE and rake in the kills.
I would have to agree, that title at least seems like it needs some readjustment.
And as a side note to the OP, I’m not a grammar kitten. I was always terrible at grammar, but some more well placed capital letters would do wonders in making your post both more readable, and more likely to be taken seriously.
I want to make a note and say that you have to kill 24 players per MINUTE for it to take 434 days… in fact I’m convinced you and your math attempted to do something like that as when you figure that out it comes out to 249,984 which is dangerously close to 250k for an odd mix up.
Anyways, just thought I’d add that. 24 kills per minute every minute for 434 days.
This is even more off the scale. 24 kills per minute x 60 minutes per hour x 24 hours a day x 434 days = 14,999,040 kills. Hell, you’ll have Dominator in just a week then.
I know this topic is getting old, but I’m still surprised this isn’t fixed yet, or was mentioned at the PAX. It’s also fun how they have +1 AP for every like… 5 costume brawl or PvP wins, and then steps like this taking years in WvW.
Dailies and monthlies have a cap…. and Wintersday sort of urinates all over the value AP system.
It causes AP inflation…. and devalues achievements that are extremely difficult to earn.
Let alone the titles. Finders Keepers must be the most laughable title possible. Took me 10 minutes to earn last year, with no effort put into it whatsoever. Something like Wonderland Wanderer or Dedicated Mayhem Troll would at least make a bit of sense.
If you remove the extra APs I don’t think that anyone else in the game would complain.
I will. If you don’t want the extra AP’s, you have the option to simply stay away from doing them. It’s a bit like WvW Season 1 vs. 2, where Season 1 took quite a while and Season 2 was finished within a windblow. I wouldn’t mind more achievements like the one you mention in Snowball Mayhem, but nerfing the other ones is just a waste for those who really want to work for them.
How the heck do you have that much gold??
It sounds like yes, you got nerfed. Sorry that happened to you, but I’d guess you’re more of an outlier in this case. I spend a lot of time playing this game and yet I still don’t understand the urge to go out and get every daily achievement every day forever…
I agree, it really is stupid. I’ve got that question, and I’ve also asked myself that question many times, what am I really trying to reach? I’ve never found an answer for it. It’s just the feeling of climbing up the endless stairs of building a legend my way, and taking on the challenges I know most people won’t even think about (the super expensive collections, for example). So yeah, I don’t think I have an intellectual answer for it, because after all, AP’s are just numbers anyway
In the previous system, as someone who tried to get all my daily AP every day, it took me 1-5 hours to get it all. Now it takes me less than 10 mins. People who cared about AP had to tick off every single item from a list before; now they can choose the 3 easiest. This is a massive improvement for AP hunters.
Five hours..? Can’t imagine it taking so long even before the release of EotM.
It depends on how you look at it. If you did every Daily and Monthly every month, then yes, it’s a nerf to the amount of achievement points you can get in the same time frame. But if you’ve been doing every Daily and Monthly every month since the game came out, you’re currently capped on Daily achievement points and can’t earn anymore.
I didn’t even know this game existed when it came out. Started playing in September 2013, but it really took some time to get familiar with the game, so it more or less took all the way until the Wintersday release for me to start achieving. Since then, I’ve got every possible achievement every day and month, except for two breaks which together were about 6 weeks, so I’m currently at 5.000 daily and 1.500 monthly in total.
In that case, next month’s consolidation of Daily and Monthly caps to 15k would be helping you clear the rest of the way faster, by letting you earn 280-310 AP up to that 15k cap instead of the 100 AP the old Monthlies would have given you.
Now you’re counting dailies, not monthlies. Daily gives 10 AP a day, that’s correct. Previous dailies gave 12 AP a day, plus an additional 100 AP a month, granting 12*28-31 = 336-372+100 = 436-472 achievement points a month. Roughly 300 vs almost 500. That’s a huge difference.
But what if you didn’t do every Daily before? Well, now you save a bit of time. You only need to do three achievements to get 10 AP, rather than doing 1 achievement for 1 AP. That’s more bang for your buck. Being able to selectively attack your dailies to finish them quickly each day frees you up to do other things to boost your AP. Have you seen how much AP is available in sPvP, for example? You can now go into sPvP, possibly complete your entire daily there for the 10 AP if you play one of the classes needed for the daily, then get a bunch more points by progressing your rank and winning matches with various classes. There’s 40 AP to be had for winning a single non-practice game with each class, after all! And the points just keep stockpiling from there. The new daily system gives you more time to pursue those achievements if that’s what you’re looking for.. or to go find the rest of your jumping puzzles or mini-dungeons or explorable dungeons or weapon masteries or creature slayers or whatever else you need to do to boost your AP.
I don’t care for bang for the buck. I have somewhere around 8 hours average each day in GW2, even despite these breaks mentioned above; so an hour a day for twelve achievements was the least I could ask myself for.
I have, like all other over-achievers, tried gathering the PvP achievements just as well. I have 11 characters and all professions, only two are left for maxed custom arena wins. The rank farms are my friends. Competitive is unfortunately put a bit aside, since it might be the game’s biggest morale and time sink if getting in terrible groups over and over. All jumping puzzles are done since I don’t know when, what I’m currently working on is the goldsink collections (just finished Acolyte of Dwayna).
…you don’t care so much about AP that you feel the need to go into PvP to boost it further, you say? Then why are you complaining about losing points here?
Since day 1 and starting at custom arenas, I’ve got the feeling that PvP only has two groups of people: elitists and trolls. Same with dungeons. It took me 3.700h to even figure out how to enter sPvP for the first time.
So it’s basically just another nerf of the achievement system. Perfect.
If I understand it correctly they remove monthly but daily AP cap will be increased by that monthly on onto 15k. I hope its because other way I will be angry:-)
Still, it will mean that the daily cap will take much longer to achieve. Instead of being able to get 12 AP’s a day + 100 a month, which in total used to be 460 AP’s over a 30-day period, we can only get 300 a month and that’s it. That’s a decrease by 35%, which for an average player can make a difference in years. I don’t want to pre-judge anything, but if this is the case it’s ridicolous.
So it’s basically just another nerf of the achievement system. Perfect.
As title says. Does anyone know if this new monthly achievement system will reward the 100 achievement points like before?
Hi again! I’ve now found myself a guild and the thread can be closed. Thanks for your time.
I’m looking for a friendly, English speaking, non-elitistic PvE guild, mainly for the sake of guild missions. Server doesn’t matter, my home one is SFR. I’m running a lvl80 guard as main and AP count should be somewhere around 2.5k by now. Thanks!
