Well, I just hit 80 last night and have roughly 65% map completion so there are others out there who will have better ideas of what they’re doing, but my final build when hitting 80 looked something like the OP’s. 10/15/20/20/5. It worked pretty well for clearing maps, which is the bulk of what I’ve been doing, and wearing a full set of Explorer’s gear, while perhaps a little slow, has been adequate for what I’m doing with it. It also feels like a sort of baseline gear because it’s not really specialized to do much other than add a little extra loot. So far I seem to see the biggest boost when I swap into a set of gear that’s a mixture of Knight’s and Valkyrie’s gear and get primarily toughness and a little more vit. Then I can afford to do things that would have otherwise been reckless.
I would not rely on condition damage from burning. It’s somewhat of a nice to have, but not worth really focusing on. When I line everything up just right, including use of Hounds of Balthazar (I’m human) I can get a constant coverage from burning. Comparing this to my ranger’s constant 5-9 stacks of bleeding and poison, with the option of adding in burning on top of it, it still seems weak even with 100% uptime.
That’s funny. Our English is their Latin.
At no point did we say that the bug is fixed on Live. It will be in the upcoming content update, later this week.
Surely you can understand there may be some confusion, however, when there are multiple patches this week.
While I am normally the first to tell people to put away the pitch forks, I feel at the very least this highlights the difference between the model set forth by Guild Wars and traditional MMO’s. A bug which causes players to feel as though they can’t play their character would not be allowed to stand for a month in a pay to play MMO. It is immaterial that there are other ways to play and level; players still feel that way and are unhappy. If they’re in a position where they’re deciding whether they want to stick around and possibly spend money on the gem store there is the possibility that it may influence that decision.
I’ve been struggling to figure out how I want to play my ranger endgame and I think this helps. I was already gearing towards vit/toughness with a mixture of knight’s and valkyrie gear, but using a longbow for burst damage on rapid fire and and a shortbow. I think giving up the pretense of burst damage may be what I needed to do, but now I can’t figure out what other skills to try instead. Any thoughts on what the remaining skills on the bar should be, or what pets work well with this approach?
Well, I wish they could get the fix rolled out sooner. They’ve fixed it, they’re just waiting for a patch to be able to apply the fix. Certain fixes, depending on where they are in the code, can be a bigger deal to patch than others so I’m okay waiting a while longer.
Meanwhile my character who’s stuck on the quest has become my map clearing character and is working on 100% map completion. May as well, since I have to find some other way to level her. It seems to me like it’s the most constructive way to go about it while we wait.
