I believe that in game voice communication is necessary for the spvp community. In GW2 pvp, not only is mechanical skill important, but so is map awareness and teamwork. However, many of the new players and current players are lacking in the map awareness and rotational sense. I think this could be fixed by players being able to voice communicate within their team during a match, where players will be able to call for +1s, synergise skills, and call where the enemy players are. Especially since the new expansion will be releasing, new players will enter the game and be turned off by the pvp mode because they do not know how to rotate. Through voice communication, more experienced players can guide newer players where to go instantly and help them with their map awareness.
There is obviously the problem with toxic players in voice communication, but as long as Anet implements a method for players to block certain player’s voice communication in game, I believe that voice communication will gradually improve the state of the pvp community. Overwatch, one of the most popular competitive games out currently, implements in game voice communication, and the difference between team communication and no communication makes the difference between a win and a loss, as well as educating newer players how to properly play. Especially in GW2, where there is no tutorial for pvp and map awareness and teamwork is integral to the game, I believe voice communication is necessary.
