Help with celestial armor

Alright, let me give this a small nudge upwards again..

Really? No one having an idea, advice or opinion? I mean surely the idea of celestial armor to match the trinkets cannot be THAT terrible, right?

There must be some kind of build that can make use of the added support of healing power and more survivability. Maybe some minion master crossbreed? More focus on marks for bigger exploding mark damage along with the conditions? More wells for the siphoning health and bigger well of blood power?

There must be something useful to do with these trinkets and the armor to make some time down the line..

Deathshroud is toxic

AkkiChan.7164

I can only repeat myself.

If anything regarding survivability or more utility would apply to death shroud, the people that go for tanky DS builds would be FREAKING IMMORTAL.

You go into death shroud to live on borrowed time you ripped from the dead around you, if that borrowed time of pseudo-invulnerability isn’t enough to survive or kill, then you still managed to survive for way longer then you should have.

So, a static ping-pong ball, yes? Foot In The Grave, suckers.

ALWAYS. ALWAYS consider the option that there are people who will take every DS trait imaginable to sit on a spvp capture point and sit there to stay because itt akes a small army to bring them down.

You opted to not go for a full DS build.
You opted to not get Foot in The Grave.
So you have to deal with the fact that your shroud isn’t as powerful as for someone who did and will get knocked around in your borrowed time state.

You want buffs on DS so you can survive in it? that would summon nerfs across TWELVE TRAITS over EVERY trait line the necromancer has.

Not. Going. To. Happen.

No, it only reduces the natural drain, so it’s only worth it if you are planning to stay in death shroud for extended time.

Natural drain is 4% per second without the trait, and 3% per second with.

Deathshroud is toxic

in Necromancer

Posted by: AkkiChan.7164

AkkiChan.7164

But isn’t deatshroud in itself already a second healthbar? The other classes have no healing limitations like that because they are not packing a secondary health bar like the necromancer has.

Even without traits you have a shield like skill that outshines aegis and protection any day of the week, to either waste time until help arrives or your enemy simply dies so you can recover, what other healing mechanic can compare to that?

Now on the other side, if you are six points deep in soul reaping and spend some extra traits into it, death shroud is an incomparably huge tank and source of life. If you get nuked out of there before your attacker, be it PvE or PvP, dies.. then would healing really have made that much of a difference?

Now, if you COULD heal within death shroud or be affected by healing.. then think about the people that do run death shroud heavy tank builds, how would you ever get these necromancers to die? Sure, it would give the ones that don’t have that extra buffer on their shroud form a bit of survivability, but the ones that do, their survivability would not only go through the roof, but would make it borderline impossible to ever see these people die unless you descend upon them with the wrath of heaven and the help of a handful of other players.

There are so many different traits that effect death shroud, scattered across every trait lines. It’s clearly meant to be a bit sub par without traits, so it can shine and be glorious bastion of unholy life if you do spend a few traits in it. To be able to receive healing would be fine if you’re not spending traits, but it would be utterly broken if you do.

Consequences? Why ever would you want to pass up on virtual immortality. In arena games or spvp in general, a necromancer with some healing backup of any sort could defend any point virtually forever.

So if you ask me.. no, that would be unbelievably broken.

Help with celestial armor

in Necromancer

AkkiChan.7164

Hello everyone.

My necromancer is finally 80 and I think I will stay a while and put my dear mesmer girl on the shelf until the disappoint fades away and I can live with the fact that anet has to her ideas of what is “fun” for a mesmer to do and not to do. But that’s a different matter…

Now, for all intents and purposes, I am a big fan of condition builds, and for the most part I don’t specifically “care” that people will give me odd stares in corner-standing boss-cheesing simulato- I mean dungeons.

Now, I stripped my mesmer of her ascendent trinkets and gave them to my necromancer.. for the basic reason that I don’t have the time/energy to pile up another ungodly amount of laurels to purchase a new set of trinkets for her, so she’s for the moment stuck with celestial trinkets all around.

Now since I am slowly making my way towards ascendent armor.. seriously who came up with these dimensions, 2 gold for a piece of eloian leather and 13 for damask? Hell knows I’d love to wear leather armor all of the sudden.

I was considering getting celestial armor to match up with the trinkets she’s wearing. Now bigger problem is, I have no clue how a build like that would look.

I do, mostly, pve with the occasional visit in pvp environments, but I’m still comparably “new” to playing with grenth and his pals.

So, for the moment, my first idea was something like… this.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fREQNArYWjk00SbNNe3wfjihhSqVY6ZII+BouyIHgAA-TxxCABA8EAU4UA8lyPB1HcoSwOV/Zm9HAA-e

I’d appreciate the input and your suggestions on how something based on celestial gear might look like.

While I generally like the combination of dyes.. Now how do I say this without sounding like a jerk. Ah whatever.

You’re an asura. With a mohawk. I’m afraid there isn’t really much you can wear that would look good AND impressive enough to make it catch a second glance.

I’m also not entirely sure about the boots. Have you tried the boots from ascalon catacombs? They might make for a better look. Or conjurer perhaps, the lines running along the shoes could make for a good black/red contrast.

As far as I know, general consensus sadly hasn’t shifted away from “Conditions in PvE suck goat balls.”, even after the berserker changes. People still expect you to be a warrior in a funky dress.

In WvW, dire Necros (tanky condition build), is still very good. Yes people talk about mass cleansing. You know why everyone needs to run mass cleansing? Because if they don’t, Necros happen. Essentially you still end up needing some condition builds running around spamming out conditions because without them you end up just hoping no one starts cheating. Just like in sports, you always try to keep someone “honest” by making sure your offense is always just enough mixed that people can’t always cheat on defense by only worrying about one thing.

Soo.. Something along these lines?

AkkiChan.7164

So my necromancer is on her merry way to 80.. Made her for a change of wallpapers and to do some PvP.. most likely WvW..or sPvP..

Noooow… problem is…

I can’t decide on what build I should go for.

I am generally a rather big fan of tanky builds, so I was considering a death shroud heavy thing that simply outright refuses to die. But without the matching damage.. might be counter productive.

The the reason I actually went for necromancer was that I have a generally large liking for condition builds. Something my mesmer sadly isn’t very proficient in but that is a different matter entirely.
Now I can imagine condition and epidemic aren’t going to be THAT much of a joy to use in larger pvp environments, considering how hard purge and cleanse effects are flying around everywhere.

And then there are the new traits coming next week, so I have even LESS of a clue of what to do anymore.

So the most sensible idea would be “Read around the forums, you’ll find something for you.” … Well, I tried. And now I’m more confused then ever before. So many different opinions and outright contradictory things left and right said about builds and their actual use… nope, I don’t see anymore what is legit information and what it out of date.

Sooo.. long story a little shorter.. what kind of build would YOU run starting next week when your prime desire for PvP is survivability? I’m not much for outright nuking people to the ground, as long as I am just standing by the time they drop.

AkkiChan.7164

Well, way to snuff out that faint hope of making PvP remotely interesting for me when the patch hits.

Confusion sucks balls in PvE, including these.. how do people put it around here.. “hilariously broken set of runes”..? Heavens forbid I might actually be able to make use of it in PvP on my mesmer. On one side I get told that a condition build sucks.. and on the other side the PvP crowd cries so ungodly hard about it that anet actually removes something even before it goes live.

Then again, nothing new I guess. It’s something of a tradition that mesmer get kicked to the balls because the generic PvP player cannot play around their skills. At least this time we’re not getting kitten slapped in our PvE skills to apeace the almighty PvP whine.

I have killed thousands of Bandits. Inquest. Dredge. Flame Legion. Courtiers. I stood and watched their leaders mock, fight and fall into the dust. Faolain, Kudu, Baelfire.. and now Scarlet.

They call us heroes because we get stuff done. We kill, so others get to keep moving. If we insist on taking the moral high ground because we aspire to be “better then them”, then I really wonder how you heroes out there can close a single eye at night, considered the hunderts of lives you take each day.

So you stood defiant when lions Arch was under siege. How many aetherblades did you killed today? How many of them have gotten into piracy for the lack of choice? How many of them had family?
But it’s fine, you’re a hero, you are better then them since you pity their deaths. But kitten will you cheer if you find a valuable exotic piece of gear in their bloodsoaked pockets when you loot their still warm body.

No one is a hero here. And if you honestly see yourself as such, then you are even more sick and twisted then we who celebrate the death of a sick and dangerous creature who got what was coming to her.

DING DONG, the witch is dead! Celebrate the death of a raving lunatic, a mass murderer and a danger for tens of thousands more if we wouldn’t have put her to the blade.

I will happily laugh in the face of those who frown about it and go all hero-mode about how we might have saved her.

That woman was moving source of death and destruction. Wherever we follow her trace, there was NOTHING but death, destruction and utter chaos, with each little step growing and growing in danger until we faced a level where allowing her to go on would have been nothing but just as insane as she is.

I don’t give a kitten rats kitten about if she was in possession of her own mind or not. There is a level of magnitude where this simply stops being a point of argument. She caused the death of untold thousands of civilians all around the world. Thousands? Tens of thousands? The mere notion to apply a chance of redemption to a “creature” like that is unthinkable.

What would you do? Free her mind of that corruption? Lock “Scarlet” away and bring her former self back? What good will that do? Will that undo what she has done? Good luck getting that note out to the public, to the untold families who have lost loved ones because of her acts. She would be unable to go ANYWHERE in the world without being torn apart by a vengeful mob.

Put her in prison? That insane mastermind who has shown time after time again she is borderline mary sue perfect in EVERYTHING she touches? With a following of thousands across several factions with no reliable way to tell if they are loyal enough to come for her?
Where would you put her? Vigils Keep? What if her followers DO come for her? Twelve preserve us all if they do.

And even if we would have captured her alive.. The civilians of the world WILL call for her head, and what else then blood would sate their thirst for vengeance against the woman that destroyed thousands of lives.

No matter how we spin it, Scarlet was doomed. Let her die there and brand her as the ruthless, uncaring , psychopathic monster she was. What she was died long ago. Let’s stay with that and celebrate the death of a demon in a way it is fitting, with song and celebration.

This creature doesn’t deserve a single shred of our pity. She drowned that right in the blood of untold innocents.

Okay, well… Is that all?

THIS is the final chapter of the story? THIS is our answers, revelations and closure? You honestly want tot ell me that THIS is something only “a few thousand” got right in their predictions?

Yeah, no. I don’t buy it. Not one bit.

So what secret does caithe hide? We didn’t got to know.

So what was all that FOR? To wake another dragon? All that kitten, death and terror to wake another monstrosity? Well if that’s not blown out of scale.

She said there’d be “even less” of Lion’s Arch left after today. Well sorry, the world looks pretty intact to me after all that doom and gloom we were promised. Lions Arch is burned down, nothing more. That’s hardly something that would “change things forever”.. the city can be rebuild with a bit of spare wood, I fail to see any permanent damage other then a big hole in the harbor.

So instead of answers and closure, we get another two week kittentease of boss farming before we get another shot at answers and closure, which I am fairly sure will be 80% tease for the next episode, 10% pointless trifle and 10% answers to questions remaining open, if we’re lucky.

From a technical viewpoint, I can say the content update is well done. And while I am disappointed that we’re back at mindless boss zerging again, at least the knights are packing a rather nasty punch.

From a story point aspect though? No, I find myself bitterly disappointed. We learned next to nothing other then something a braindead skritt would have been able to guess from these oh so very subtle hints that were dropped along the story. We got that one big, blatantly obvious answer. And the things and questions that actually mattered weren’t even answered. Thanks a lot Braham.

So the witch is dead. Yay. Excuse my lack of joy, I’m too busy drowning my disappointment in pudding.

It’s a more then likely scenario. When your house burns and the closest exit of the city leads towards the wall, will go there and look for shelter, or take the long way through the burning city to reach the exit, through fire, poison, krait and dredge?

Will YOU have the calm head and remember the warnings, or keep faith in tengumanity and hope for shelter while everything you call dear and home is razed to the ground?

We may have not seen the NPCs run there, but you tell me how this is not a likely thing to happen? People jump from the windows of a burning building into certain death when it seems the only way out. Unless proven otherwise, it is a rather reasonable assumption that there should be a fair share of citizens piling up near the wall.

Yes, that the players will have little to no problems with this is one thing. From a lore point of view though? We see it with the charr already. Opposition against peace with the charr is not exactly a minor thing and without the queen that would never happen, and even she gets a lot of flak for it.

But this, let me go hyperbole for a moment and call it the “Slaughter of Lion’s Arch” at the tengus walls is a thing that is not just for humans relevant. heavens know how many died in Scarlets onslaught that could have saved by a quick retreat route through the tengu gate? Members of every race died that day because they chose to stick to their isolation instead of offering help.

So who would vouch for them this time? The Queen?
The charr high command?
The pale tree?
The captain’s council?

Who of them would have enough balls AND influence to call for peace and acceptance with the tengu, after they chose their isolation over the death of civilians by the thousands?

This issn’t ascalon. the human realm has long since fallen into dust and ruin, with Ebonhawk still staring daggers at the charr. If ascalon were still around, we’d have a major faction throwing a potentially war burdened tantrum for even considering peace with the charr, on a scale like the flame legion.

Now try to imagine the day the tengu approach us for help, assistance or even just a trade agreement. if Lion’s Arch is to be rebuild, do you think any citizen or member of the captain’s council would actually choose to listen other then giving them the finger and tell them to kitten off after what happened?

None of the factions have anything to do with the tengu. There will be no one to speak for them. No one to stand up and support the alliance for the greater good. There simply is no base of trust. If there was any, it died in the fires of Lion’s Arch.

Good evening everyone.

I’ve been wondering a lot about Mimic lately, most noably when Im running my daily fractals. (24 right now.) I always considered Mimic to be a rather.. let’s be polite.. “bad” skill, mostly because I saw no acctual use for i that could not be better filled by Feedback.

So I used it a few times and find myself.. disappointed.

I can catch a bomb from the legendary mining suit. But shooting it back.. nothing happens.

I can catch the flaming arrow and th diving bomb of the grawl shaman.. Results are pretty disappointing.

I can catch the super shockwave of the dredge boss before the mining suit.. and send it back for roughly 600 damage.

I cannot catch the harpie knockdown orb.

To make a long story short.. Whenever I catch a bullet for the full damage to absorb it, the retaliation fire from it has yet to exceed anything past 700 damage. What good is a absorbed projectile if the acctual use of it is nothing but a bad joke?

Am I using it wrong, or is it intendet that the stolen bullet is but a waste of time?

Under the assumption that I understood the thigns we know about those little guys correctly.. they come from the deep. Along with the largos and the krait. And were most likely driven to the surface by bubbles and his pals screwing stuff up down there.

Now I wonder.. the deeps of (our) ocean are a place where unspeakably horrible creatures lurk. ( Angler Fish says hi.) .. Then it is a place that makes cultures strife like the Krait, who are sadistic, ruthless, cunning and make copious use of slaves..

And the Largos who are bassicly Drow with Stringray wings and sexy accents, always on the prowl and planning for their next murder, more or less for sport.

And then there are the quaggens. Tiny, helpless, weak, timid…

Since they came to the surface, they have done effecively NOTHING then leech support and assistance from everyone around them, effectively being dead weight while the world hangs by a thread and stumbles towards destruction by the elder dragons.

HOW in the name of every god ever seen on tyria did those little creeps managed to survive in the deep?

The Boon Dispencer Build

in Mesmer

AkkiChan.7164

Hello and good day or evening.

Today I want to share with you with you my personal way of playing my mesmer, after having shown i on reddit before and the influx of comments and suggestions stopped, I want to show it off here as well and hope for some more ways to impoove it.

People have two oppinions of the mesmer… They are either “zomfg OP!” in every PvP enviroment, or Time Warp bots in dungeons. Well, for the later category, you might be the people who have the most of a blast with this build I want to present today.

I don’t know if it is new, I don’t know if it is inovative in any form whatsoever, but I want to share my little piece of joy with you.

I call it, BOON-BOOZE... yeah yeah, I know, name pending.
[Edit] Ugh, why does it give me a bad link, it’s working just fine otherwise…

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgEQNArdWlw1CoXVThGa9IhpHBH5+G1jrndrTqgrB;T0AgyyuEcJ5S1liLKvMdJ6y51SkhIzFA

So, what is this about?

Firstly, details of gearing.

You will need: Carrion equipment. Conditions will be something of a sideeffect of what you will do.

2 Superior Runes of Water – +25 Healing, +15% Boon Duration
2 Superior Runes of the Monk – +25 healing, + 15% Boon Duration
2 “MAJOR” Runes of the Sanctuary or Water – +15 Vitality or Healing + 10% Boon Duration
2 Superior Sigils of Battle – Gain 3 Might when switching to this weapon in combat.
1 Superior Sigil of Corruption – Gain condition damage upon slaying an enemy.
A scepter.
A staff.
A focus.

Everything together? Brilliant, then let us have a closer look at the traits.

10 Domination

VI: Signet Mastery – Signets recharge 20% faster.
You will need your one signet a lot. This one will be your best friend.

Chaos 30

V: Debilitating Dissipation – Clones apply a random condition when they are killed.
Your clones will die, fast and hard and not always reach their target, they might just as well make some use for them.

X: Chaotic Dampening – +50 toughness while holding a staff, 20% reduced staff cooldown.
Your staff skills will be your bread and butter. Hands down.

XI: Bountiful Interruption – Gain a random boon when interrupting an enemy.
For that sweet little twist later.

Illusions 30

V: Master of Misdirection – Confusion you inflict lasts 33% longer.
Conditions, hooo!

VII: Illusionary Elasticity – Bouncing attacks gain an additional bounce.
For your bounding staff goodyness.

VIII: Dazzling Glamours – Glamour-Skills blind enemies in their radius.
Because Feedback, Null-Field and all the others are cool.

Now, where does all this take us?

With your runes, your traits and an active Signet of Midnight, you stand at 80% Boon Duration. Now pop a Omnomberry Chocolate Cream and you have +100% Boon duration.

Execution

Now, after combat against a group of enemies has been initated, a good pattern of actions could look like this:

1. Run up to the enemy, drop Chaos Storm so it does affect you, the enemies and every character in melee range.

2. Let the random boons stack on you while you summon your Phantasmal Warlock.

3. Use Phase Retreat to summon up another clone.

4. Shatter the clones to trigger Shattered Strength.

5. Swap to your scepter holding a sigil of battle, and the focus while the clones shatter.

6. Drop down Temporal Curtain.

7. Trigger it again to pull enemies towards the rupture.

8. Gain random boons by, hopefully, interrupting as many of them as possible.

9. Steal some boons via Arcane Thievery if available.

10. Hit your Signet of Inspiration.

11. Squeel in joy when seeing your array of boons pop up in the entire group, putting your stacks of Might on top of theirs.

You might not be a tremendous DPS-Beast, but with this, you should be able to easily uphold ~10 Might in the group and let the rest of your companions show the enemies who is boss around the dungeon.

Sadly, your boon duration won’t affect the boons you share with the group you got from other party members, but you still cause a wide varriety of boons to be present, with a nice guardian nearby, you can keep up nearly every boon available on he team indefinately.

Me, as a person who has a genuine blast from playing suppot-heavy characters in my games and MMO’s specifically, I can say, that this build is likely the best thing that could have ever happened to me… Well, as long as my group doesn’t consist of 5-Signet style egoists who think boons are something exclusively for themselfes..

If someone of you wants to give this a swirl, too, please drop me a line with experiences, suggestions or other comments.

Have a nice day, and happy buffing! .. Or.. booning?

I can live with the crippling of Arcane Thievey, even though I dearly miss the full swap of boons and conditions on some bosses in he fractals fo example.. (Archdiviner says hi.)

But what happened to Feedback? * sighs a little frustrated *
I put it on the Legendary Dredge Mining Suit when it prepares it’s bomb barrage… Nothing happens. At all.

I put it on the grawl shaman in the vulcano fractal when it prepares it’s diving bomb… Nothing.

I put it on the champion spiders in Arah Explorable, getting a few reflection hit’s of less then ~1000 damage per reflected bullet while the attack can utterly kitten everyone it hits…

What happened to my favorite spell that could punish stuff for shooting dangerous things at my party?

That just doesn’t feel fair at all anymore..

Well, technically..

They whipped up a whole row of Asura Gates in, technically, no time while constructing fort trinity. So no matter how “logistically impractical/expansive/wahetever” it would be to travel between Cantha and back, all it would take to get one ship over there, holding material and a krewe of workers, to slap up a new one over there and we’d be done with it.

The way the pact keeps whining about needing new allies, you’d think they’d be ready to break a leg or two to get over there.

And quite impressive ones.

If I recall correctly, contact got severed when the seas turned crazy and traveling by ship in the area became technically impossible, thanks to zhaitan screwing around with his orrian legos.

So, technically, what is stopping us from flying over the troubled sea to re-establish contact with Cantha?

Are the clones supposed to do 0 damage?

Just my personal feelings, but I believe the mesmer is, currently, in PvE content, at a most shining, glorious spot when wearing Ravager-gear (Power, precision, Condition Damage) with a good chunk of melee-action and illusion support.

It should be said though, you can put them to use in other ways.

Me for example, I create a clone whenever I dodge, traited them to cause bleeding damage when they crit, since they seem to share my crit change, and cause random conditions when killed. As I use two swords and stick to melee combat, the enemy is screwed when they kill them or when they don’t.

They might not deal outright damage, but they can totally be abused to cause it.

It is pretty much straight forward.

When possible, I open with my staff, creating a chaos storm over my destination, switch over to sword and Blink into the fray, relying on my barrage of crits, with currently 78% critchance when my sigil is fully stacked, in union with sigil of fire in the other sword, to crash down onto the pack of enemies like the hammer of Lyssa herself. … Okay, granted, Lyssa most likely wassn’t using a hammer, but you get my meaning.

Arcane Thievery along with Null Field keep me safe and sound in the hostile enviroment of orr that just loves to slap you with conditions ten times over.

The bonus from six runes of Lyssa, together with Timewarp, turn me into a devestating blender for a few seconds, what I can use to burst dow even veteran mobs and its minions fast enough before getting into serious trouble myself.

As for my clones, they create a bit of a “Screwed if they do, screwed if they dont.” condition for my enemies. Since I create a clone everytime I dodge, along with my ussual summoning skills, there are almost constantly wo or more illusions on he field. They share my crit-chance, so they can keep bleeding up rather constantly, while my phantasmic swordmaster deals some considerable damage on top of it.
But if they are killed, they explode violantly and leave conditions.

I wear full Ravager equipment, with power, precision and condition damage, and feel well pepared for the horrors of orrr and what is there to come.

Feel free to comment!

Necromancy - why am I allowed to raise undead

If I recall correctly, Traherne mentions that necromancer minions were “never alive”.. as constructs made of flesh and bone of dead that have passed away in the nearby area over unknown lengths of time.

Though, if you ask me, personally, that might be something we have to thank good ol’ Grenth for.

Back then in ye olde tyria, Dhuum was known for his “Death inevitable” stance on everything regarding necromancy, ressurection and such things in general. When he got kittenslapped by Grenth and he took up the mantle as god of the dead, necromancy and ressurection bcame a free tool for tyria again.

So, to an extend, necromancy is a gift from a GOD. Why would the humans of tyria pass a law that would forbid practising the art that they were given by one of their prime deitys? I believe grenth would be insulted.
Do you want the god of the underworld to be mad at you?

I thought so.
