I clearly remember before this patch that when I kill veterans, I was guaranteed at least a blue item drop. However now, it seems that they literally have the same drop rates as normal mobs (if not worse). Also, with champions, I used to see at least 2-3 items drop with much better rate of getting green drops. Now, all I get is a single blue item.
Has anyone seen this happening to them?
Also, what’s the point in ANet nerfing predictable drop rates. Before I love to take on the challenge of lvl 75+ veterans and a bunch of other mobs at the same time, and now this nerfed drop rate makes me just avoid them and go kill random level 50 animals.
For anyone who says this game isn’t about grinding/farming, I think misses the underlying mechanism that drives MMORPGs. Let’s take this logic:
- In MMORPG, I want to be better (if I don’t, I would be playing offline RPG)
- To get better, I need mats/money
- To get money, I need a reliable methods to find mats/money efficiently
- Possible farming methods: run through dungeon, do dynamic events
- and….. those structures just so happens to be the main part of this game, because Anet wants us to want to be better, how else will Anet keep people playing and paying for gems? (evidence seen in boosters, BL Chest, gems salvage kit, ridiculous mats for lengendaries, item rarity stats difference)
Therefore, whatever you do, you are grinding. Now there is a difference between “fun” grinds and “boring” grinds. I think when Anet says they don’t want us to grind, they meant the “boring” grinds and and promoting the “fun” version. Which brings me back to the question, if Anet wants us to have fun, why did this ghost drop rate nerf happened?
tl:dr
ghost nerf drop rates = not fun
(My perspective could be wrong, and so I would love to hear yours)
you want a challenge, play an elem.
Thank you so much for writing this post. I was beginning to get lost with this game after reaching level 80 due to exactly what you said, “checkboxing” (old habit from WoW dies hard).
Your post showed me a different perspective and now I begin to realized, this game isn’t WoW, but it is very much its own genre – an exploring RPG.
This will definitely take some time to get used to, but thanks to you, I think it will be easier for me now.
+1
My highest level character is 51. Once i realized how pointless the pve content was I just stopped leveling him. Now I own a bunch of lvl 2 characters for pvp.
and this is also why I can’t get my friends to come do higher level stuff with me. they just level enough to understand the profession, and off they go to pvp….
I guess I’m not the only one not feeling “accomplished” with hitting lvl 80.
I love this game, but I’m also really afraid that this might make me play less.
Oh no, I don’t want to 1 shot things and I’m not saying I have nothing to do. However I’m just wondering if the scaling down of level is a bit too much, since (I believe) we are scaled to down the area lvl + 1. What if instead, we’re scaled down to area lvl + 5 instead?
I just wish lvl 80 gets something that distinguishes them significantly.
(and I guess we’re back to end game content discussion…)
Just want to ask the community this question.
I’ve been running around the world with my lvl 80 elem for quite some time now (and it was really fun getting to lvl 80 mind you). However, I don’t seem to feel like I’m a lvl 80 at all. I understand that we are supposed to scale down to lvl of the area, but it really raised the question… why do I have to be a level 80?
Then, when I switch to my alt (mesmer/ranger/thief/eng), I just find it really hard to push myself to get to lvl 80 unlike my first character. I ended up just not caring too much about my level since full pvp content is given at lvl 1, and I already have a lvl 80 to do whatever other events for fun.
So am I missing something?
(I guess…. sometimes I wish I can go back to the starting area and be like “Look guys! I’m a lvl 80, let me help you all!” but I end up “oh shoot… oh shoot… don’t die my little squishy elem…. help please…. .anyone?”) ><!!!
oh, guess it sounds like they’re not going to change it.
i understand the need to pay when you die, but maybe have the “death to waypoint” cost separate from “traveling to waypoint” cost would be nice…
Edit: Ah thanks for the tip Gank
Just a quick question, does anyone feel that travelling to waypoints at lvl 80 is really expensive?
I’m not sure if I’m missing anything (asura gates), but is there a way to get around guild wars 2 cheaper/faster than speed buffing around the map?
definitely 3.
It’s rather sad when I see a warrior go in 1v3 mobs or chain kill one after another through the whole cave, when I’m struggling to stay alive in 1v1. Also I really like the idea of attunements but it really hurts elementalists (specifically staff build) because if you want to kite, you lose damage, if you go full damange, you’re pretty much tanking and relying on blind/dodge.
TL;DR
I feel that elementalists (mages) need to be able to kite well and still significant deal damage.
