I think that’s ^ pure conjecture.

Since literally in this thread has confirmed it, I’d say it’s more than conjecture at this point :P

I’ll just leave this here… you only need to scroll down just a wee bit to find your answer.

Maybe they should post that here.

Did y’all see this on reddit?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3s16bb/the_other_kind_of_map_completion_bug_prematurely/

He has sort of the opposite of our problem. He did the HoT maps first, and is doing old Tyria second – and now he’s getting multiple gifts before even completing it the maps. This makes me think something bad has gone wrong somewhere in the whole map completion thing. I’ve completed Verdant Brink, but am leaving a few easy vistas and poi undone in all the other maps till this is sorted.

It sounds like they didn’t split map completion into 2 different parts. I’d assume that’s the easiest way to achieve a fix.

I’m surprised this got to 10 pages, and ArenaNet still hasn’t posted a single reply.

If someone has an 80 without 100% Map completion in Central Tyria, could you go to VB and 100% it, and let us know if you got your reward?

Same here. I was working on VB completion for the Dark Harvest collection achievement. I got 100% map completion, and got no reward.

Option to remove the Mini-Map

I, too, would love an option to disable the mini-map. I’d love to be able to move around the world without being able to glance at a “cheat sheet” of where I’m going. I’d like to use my own senses, and use visual cues to move around the world sometimes.

Expanding the Specializations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Alexander.5782

Alexander.5782

Why would Sons of Svanir be inaccessible to female characters?

I understand your point about racial specializations, it’s too generic to fit well with each class. In that case, what else could they do for new specializations going forward? The only thing that comes to mind is variations of the class, perhaps fitting the theme of new content. That doesn’t seem particularly inventive with the system that could have the potential to do so much more.

Is there something you’d like to see?

Expanding the Specializations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Alexander.5782

Now that specializations have replaced the old trait system, and we’ve had a few days to play with it, I look to the new system with awe and inspiration for what might be in store for it in the future.

We already know that Elite Specializations are going to be a thing. This new system begs to be expanded upon, and that concept is very exciting to me.

I’d like to see future specializations explore the world of Tyria, and not just be simple customizations to the classes for the sake of having more fiddly bits. No, I’m talking about, as one example, racial specializations. PvE only, if need be, but that’s just one idea.

Let’s take Norn as an example: we could get a Norn spec or a Sons of Svanir spec. We could have a “fighting the corruption” spec themed after each of the dragons! Anti-Icebrood, -Branded, or even -Mordrem specs. Hell, we could simplify it and have a single spec for all the corrupted!

These are just a few of many possible ideas for the future specializations out there begging to be made!

So, I’ll close this with a question: What kind of specialization would you like to see?

[Request] Guild Alliances

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Alexander.5782

Alexander.5782

Most likely it would start as just a simple system where a Guild can join a single Alliance that offers an Alliance chat. Thus allowing easy cross guild communication for organizing things such as boss fights, WvW and other larger scale events.

This could be expanded to allow credit for guild missions, visiting of guild halls, and even shared influence gains.

This, ideally, is exactly what I’d like to see.

[Request] Guild Alliances

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Alexander.5782

Alexander.5782

In Guild Wars, we had a system of multiple guilds joining an alliance, so that people that were in different guilds could join each others guild events. Since Guild Wars 2 gives us the ability to be in more than one guild, Alliances just seem like a no-brainer to me.

Is there a reason we don’t have this in GW2?

I’m not entirely sure where requests go. If this isn’t the right place, let me know.

New to API Development

Alexander.5782

As a long-time coding admirer, I’ve always been interested in developing my own programs/apps, but haven’t had much opportunity to do so. I’ve read most of the stickies, and to be honest, I’m lost.

How do I actually use the API?

For example, I’d like to create a Google Sheet with 4 tabs: Ore, Cloth, Leather, Wood. On each sheet, I’d like a column for Type, Buy, and Sell. I’d like the Buy and Sell columns to show the current buy and sell orders for each item. However, I haven’t the slightest clue how to do so…

Is there some sort of tutorial out there? Or is there something more that I need to know?

I’d say people who purposely kill champs “out of order” to get retribution on rude people are making the map even more toxic.

You’re not teaching anyone a lesson when you do that, the type of people who get upset over someone randomly killing a champ are already unreasonable people, you’re just going to make them more upset.

Lambent, I do agree that trolling for retribution’s sake is indeed adding toxicity to an already ugly atmosphere. I’ll also admit that I’m guilty of it. No, I’m not happy about it either. However if you use that same logic to anyone witnessing bullying, that they should just let it go because it may make them “more upset”, where would that lead?

Bullying certainly isn’t cool, regardless of who’s doing it. If I’m in QD helping my brothers out, for instance (because I recently got them into the game), and we get to the Troll, you bet I’m going to help them defeat it. I’m not doing it out of spite for the “train”, I’m doing it because they need help, and want to defeat it.

It would be wrong of me to start shouting at someone that “You’re playing the game wrong” because they killed a Champion out of order.

Additional proposal: Set the DR for players 3x the max level of the starter area to a much lower limit, say 15 minutes every 5 levels, down to 45 minutes and max DR for the starter area is zero.

I would be okay with this as well. Less loot means less colored bags, and an end to that problem. =)

With the way they’ve destroyed leveling, the train is the only real viable way, and at least there is less running than the EotM train.

I respectfully disagree. I find that I get more XP/Levels faster by exploring, mining, heart/story questing. I do this as well as the “train” both. A lot of the time, I find that I can get some achievements done faster by joining the “train”. Mostly, however, I get most of it done by what I mentioned before.

Alexander.5782

For all these supporting (whether they use it or not) or on the fence about the train – riddle me this: why does it have to be in a starter zone? Would it really be so bad if they bumped it over to say, Kessex Hills or somewhere? Still 0/10 on the difficulty scale, still easy to reach and if Queensdale can be completed and moved on from so quickly, then new players can reach the train’s new location quickly. Simple.

I’m all for an inefficient farming route in a low level zone, potentially with some less than desirable people using it. But does it have to be one of the first things a new player encounters? The number of times I see new players ask for advice and being told ‘the train is the fastest way to level up, stay here until level 80’, etc. They’re new, they’ll believe this. Even if the experience is competitive… the game will just seem like a strange combination of train simulator and farming simulator set in a nice green field.

One last note: we know Anet wants to do something about the train, as we saw last update – surely moving it somewhere still easily accessible is better than nerfing it and probably all champion loot everywhere?

I feel like they could do what they did to the Spider. Downgrade the champions to Elite. Over in Kessex Hills, upgrade a few to Champions. =)

They should add 8-slot bags for higher champs. Collectable with different icons on them.
For extreme consistency!

Otherwise I feel the suggestion(s) about promoting the bags are too … rewarding. My solution would be, they simply don’t drop for a character of level XYZ+.

A solution I hadn’t considered. It really would solve my original issue. I would accept that. If you’re higher than map level, you don’t get certain loot. You could probably apply that to many other things as well.

I got better loot and XP exploring and playing the game.

I agree. If I want to get XP and levels, I just explore, do heart quests as I encounter them, discover areas and waypoints, mine nodes when I see them, and kill random monsters as I’m exploring.

Though, sometimes, I just don’t feel like doing all that. Sometimes I do enjoy “jumping on the train”. I do occasionally have fantastic conversations. This is rare however, as it seems to have grown more toxic lately. I can’t really say why I enjoy the occasional QD train, I just do sometimes.

Oohhhh only constructive criticism

Ok. The champ train bags were designed as an appropriate reward for starter chars killing them, not fully rigged level 80s killing them ez mode on an endless loop. They are appropriate for the zone and the expected level killing them. Don’t be expecting ANet to cater to level 80s getting a bunch of them while neglecting level appropriate content.

I would propose they should limit the loot accordingly then. I wouldn’t mind this at all. I’m not there to mindlessly press 1 at each of the current Champions.

That being said, perhaps my suggestion would be too steep for 1-15 characters. The patchwork bag would actually be pretty neat. What about using the bags as a base to make bigger bags via crafting?
Lets say:

10 Bolts of Wool
1 Minor Rune of Holding
1 Yellow Bag

And it creates a 10-slot yellow wool bag. Simply throw a bag into the existing recipes for 10-, 12-, 15-, 18-, and 20-slot bags to create a bigger bag of that color. And as a bonus, if you throw 4 bags of a different color in the Mystic Forge, you get a same-slot patchwork bag (as suggested by Kaz.5430).

I realize not everyone plays the same way as others. I ocasionally do join the “champ train”. Often it’s to test different weapon and skill combos and figure out a good rotation. If you have no constructive criticism or comments, please feel free to go about your day.
A more specific suggestion:
250 bags of one color
1 Eldrich Scroll
250 Gossamer Thread
5 Mystic Forge Stone

Throw this in the forge to get a 25 slot bag with a skin unique to the color you threw in.

I do run in the Queensdale “champ train” from time to time as well. Sometimes I enjoy running around killing some easy bosses. I’d still do it if they all were downgraded to Elite. Map chat is highly toxic though. If there were a way of keeping the train, and also relieve the toxicity of the chat, that’d be perfect. Sadly, I don’t know that it’s possible without dissolving the train in entirety.

One issue I have whenever I’m in the Queensdale “champ train”, is the yellow/orange/blue/etc bags that pile up in my inventory. I would like to propose to the wonderful people that work on Guild Wars 2 two suggestions.

1) Make the bags stackable. This alone will clear up a lot of space wasted by this, as far as I can tell, useless item.

2) Make it possible to chuck this stack of 250 colored bags in the Mystic Forge, along with other ingredients, to receive a unique 25-slot bag.

I would like to hear other suggestions, and would very much enjoy hearing the Devs points of view.
