This is an odd question to answer.
Mostly because whether the Necromancer is squishy is wholly dependent upon your trait setup.
Necromancers stacked with toughness and vitality can easily facetank alot of content, and the higher power of the dagger compensates for that. Alternatively, if you want to stack power and crit while running with a dagger, it’s powerful, yeah, but you’ll need to innovate a way around not taking as many hits.
My only complaint is the lack of small aoe utility on the necro weapons in general.
They are hashes displays a very solid rotation.
Though, in general, Necros are primarily support-based. While you can take this for being ‘weak’ with precious little to work with in 1v1, you can easily use your skills to turn the tide of any skirmish or large battle.
Placing your 2-4 Staff marks in melee combat (especially the spammable 2 mark) easily shifts weight in favor of your team. The 5 mark (fear) is a great tool to both buy time when you are targeted, buy a few seconds relief from enemy reinforcement, and to buy some siege relief when people build too close to the wall – which is supremely disruptive.
In general, pets are pretty worthless. The exploding minions sound like a nice idea, but their utility is severely crippled due to the bug with nova. The other minions will either die too fast to be useful, or won’t target what you need to. Solid utility is Epidemic, Spectral Wall, Blood is Power, and Spectral Armor.
A well placed Epidemic alone is enough to cripple an enemy skirmish and disrupt a section of a front line.
In a sort of odd contrast, the necromancer is surprisingly weak in PvE. Much of this has to do with the extremely poor AI and vulnerability of the pets, and the lack of a dependable way to heal pets between fights – it’s alot of irksome resummoning for things other classes can just mow through.
This changes slightly when you get your golem at level 30, and leveling becomes a bit more manageable with a pet that doesn’t die in 1-2 hits and allows you to tackle content above your level.
Poor solo PvE is just something you’ll have to suffer with, sadly.
